Date, April/May?
Location, somewhere central and where we can have fire >:D
-
April 1st sounds good it's my B/DAY you can all bring me presents  :D
-
I've have nothing in the diary for April / May as yet :tu:
The 2010 location looked pretty good; did you have real man fire there? (http://www.britishblades.com/forums/images/smilies/bushcraft.gif)
Ideally reasonably close to an airport is good for me; maybe the end of the runway :ahhh
-
Why not come to Serbia?
-
I think we should have it very early
Oct 2010? :D
-
Hmm,Serbia, there's a chance i can get down to that country :D ,and there are some wonderful places in Hungary too ! :D , There's only one problem, its a bit far away from the UK :D
-
Why not come to Serbia?

Don't think you'll need your Bail Out Bag... When you drink enough Rakia, and get some pork/lamb/chicken, not to mention loads of beer... The only place to Bail Out is BED!!
:D :D :drink: :drink:

Predictable and immediate thread derailment aside, I concur that we should do the same as usual!
May-ish, centralish, fires and all that jazz. I really liked the site we used last time that Dave found and it was cheap too :)
I think he might let us back to as they were no fatalities.
John, why I am not surprised your birthday is April 1st? :D
Mine is May 1st - a distress call, so not much better ::)

That was good :tu: but now you have me thinking of somewhere we could throw a few sharps i.e arrows/knives and axes >:D
[edit] I'll look into it ;) BTW Dave's place is top of the list thus far :tu:
-
For getting away with "everything" the top secret secured facility used the previous year can't be beat :D But I don't know if we'll get invited back there after eating the horses

Near enough Tony tho not quite correct :D I'm the director FYI >:D
-
:ahhh I liked you better when you were the fire wizard!
-
I personally think we can do better than this years location. I'd happily try and find one more axy-gunny friendly.
-
We really need private land for that.
-
Someone must know someone.
-
Best I can probably drag up is a large overgrown garden in Mansfield. Not exactly the wilderness. Then again Mansfield centre on a Friday night is pretty wild west :ahhh
-
How large a garden? :pok:
Someone must know a farmer or something?
-
Move it to Northern Baltimore county and I know of 35 acres of open fields, and a small creek that could be used...
:pok:
Heck, we could do a bit of cross country hiking as well!
-

Exactly. :D
(definitely gun and axe friendly)

On the topic of alcohol: I'll bring some ethanol (the "alcohol" in alcohol...percentage on the bottle is percentage of ethanol)
On the topic of location: Make the UK meet somewhere in the US, it makes more sense that way :D
On the topic of when: Just don't plan on it being after December 23, 2012.

I would agree I'd even swim the pond to get there

Agreed but sadly I can't think of anywhere private to use. Failing that, I'd be happy with last year's site.

i guess id have to come this time round if i can.... :tu:

Yes you would. :D

I vote leafy Kent :D

How about our downstairs neighbours flat?
The stupid cow set light to place earlier so she obviously allows fires >:(
:twak: :twak: :twak:

Moron ::)
-
We better bring some more fire wood if shes used all her furniture :salute:

Yes, bring wood, and a plank to compare her intelligence to ::)

How about this place?

Bit closer to Dunc I believe as well.
How long would the drive be for you Gareth?
-
Looks groovy.... no restrictions which stop us from coming :)
-
I have a suggestion but it might be a bit far for people
I found out today it might be possible to set up camp at a club near to me
I have not approached anyone officially as I thought I will ask you lot first
They have an archery club so there should not be any problems using bows or setting up a target for throwing axes and knives :viking:
There is a wooded area at one side
I'm sure we would be allowed a fire
Its a very quiet site with out many passers by
There's a social club on site so there is beer
I can make a few inquiries next week if there's any interest
Its not a million miles away from Bicester
http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=50.709999083999996~-1.9800000189999877&lvl=6
-
I couldn't get
multimap Bloody Bing to link straight to Bicester
so click on the link and type bicester in the space at the top
This place seems ideal to me for playing with knives and stuff but I understand if its too far
If any of the regulars want more details of the place PM me :salute:
-
I'm game :tu:
-
Stick it in google maps Tony, or just tell us the postcode :)
Having targets for throwing things at might be a lot of fun!
-
Sound's good Tony :tu:
-
Location looks good to me, dates as ever I'm up in the air with and will have to see what work throws up nearer the time.
-
This looks fine to me as well. TBH as long as site's aren't too far from a motorway it's all the same to me. Google reckons this is about 6 hours from me, so perfectly reasonable. Early start, a couple of stops and no getting lost and I'd be down at a respectable time in the afternoon.
As ever I know a few nice spots in Scotland if everyone's interested? :pok: :pok:
No?
;)
-
actually I'd love a trip to Scotland, but practically
-
actually I'd love a trip to Scotland, but practically
Yup, there's the rub. :-\
-
If my passport hadn't expired I'd be up for Scotland too :tu:
As it is, I'm good with either of the current options. Tony's look like its sensible and Gareth's would only involve an hours travel so I'm easy :)
-
I will go and have a chat with the Guy tomorrow tonight if I can and get some details :salute:
It might all go pear shaped
-
Worth a go. :tu: Sounds like a good option if it works out. If not - no worries.
-
Bit closer to Dunc I believe as well.
How long would the drive be for you Gareth?
:salute:
-
Had a chat today with one of the guys running the place and it sounds like it will be OK
I will have to meet someone from the main club that uses the area to see when we can fit in around their diary
Are you all happy for me to carry on arranging things down here in Bucks? Dunc, Gareth etc? :pok:
I should be able to pick people up from the Chiltern line for any train travelers
-
I'm up for it mate :tu:
-
Nice one. :tu:
-
As always, I'm easy :D
-
I will make some more inquiries as the weeks go by when you :pok: me
-
Sounds fine to me Tony.

Makes no sense  the Marylebone is connected to the Haddenham..?.should that read Hambone? ???
-
You get on the Chiltern line at Marylebone (London end) :tu:
But if your up Birmingham way you don't want to go anywhere near Marylebone :D
-
If you're in Birmingham you don't want to go anywhere near Birmingham either frankly :D
Thanks for looking in to this one Tony, looks like a fine idea
-
Dudes and dudesses,
I know I don't post a lot (so busy at work you would not believe it.....long story but VERY busy)

Appreciated but you know what they say about all work and no play... you wouldn't want to be know as Dull BoyTM would you :P
Its an excellent site but I didn't know if you were getting grief from above.
-
I have only made some inquiry’s so far so I'm happy with any suggestions :tu:
I'm not sure where it is but maybe Flashback's site would be closer to more people?
-
Swings and roundabouts. Closer to some, but further away from Dunc.
Saying that, when you are far North like Gareth, for East like Dunc and far south like me and Mike, we just accept the fact we are probably gonna end up travelling more than most. Just how it goes and not a prob to me and Mike as the drive up (for me) is half the fun. Mike may not enjoy as much as me tho!

Same here :tu: Ideally it would be somewhere close[ish] to an airport. I'll probably hire a car anyway so driving distance isn't that big a deal :D
-
I am more than willing to help out if I can mate.
-
Thanks Ben
-
Both Gatwick and Heathrow are possible options. Sure we could work out either if you ended up at either of those.
-
Hold up Ben, if we keep inviting people to car share with us, we'll have to cut back on the make-up and heels we can bring :-\
-
Got a roof rack now mate. Plenty of room. :D
-

I'll bring me stiletto's then :tu:

I'll be able to do pick ups from east midlands if that helps anyone
-
It seems I'll be in Manchester next week for work.
anyone in the area? I'll have a few evenings to kill... (tues-thur)
-
Pop a load of miles south and come see me. :D
-
even IF I finish before my Friday flight, I've got invite to pop over to Liverpool... otherwise I'm stuck working in Manchester during the daytime...

Definatly! I will just slip in the words chopper ax kukri petrol (and the fire wizard if hes not busy) when no ones looking ;)
-
I have just had a little meeting and things are looking up :tu:
:pok: We need to choose a weekend but not 25/26 June or 9/10July
I will have to have another chat to OK the dates after we have decided just to double check
Also If any of us are interested there's a possibility of some archery lessons maybe on the Sat afternoon (http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/Target_Practice.gif)
The pitches will be around 9quid including a temporary membership of the club so we can get a beer but not sure about the archery yet

and fires are OK? :tu:

I never mentioned it but I don't think there will be a problem, we can use my G/F's fire pit/BBQ if they don't want a bonfire kind of thing :tu:
I did throw in the words Multitool and games ;)
-
Is the Ruby on the list, my dog Ruby?! I mean, she of course wants to come and see you all, but I'm just checking :D
So far the two dates you have offered both work for us, but not many others around that time. If it's one of those two, Hedgekid will probably be able to come too :tu:
-
Yes it is your Ruby (MTo mascot :salute: )
Sorry but 25/26 June or 9/10July are dates that are not available
So we have a lot of other dates to chose from (I meant to meet with two guys last night and only one got there so I only got to see one diary, hopefully going to get hold of him in the next couple of days)
-
Ooh, I see... well this might get tricky then. We have two weddings and a hen night around that time you see! I'll try and figure out which weekend we can escape! :ahhh
-
I've no strong feelings as to dates. So best others with tighter schedules make the call.
I'm crap at archery but I think it'd be fun to have a go again and let Gareth humiliate me :D

If it's any consolation mate I've hardly plucked a string since then. :-[ Woefully out of practice and not exactly brilliant to start with. :D
Just had a quick look at my calendar for June/July and can't see any dates I definitely can't do, but I'll check with my wife when she gets home later.

Ooh, I don't know...
We are going to sell the van soon as we can't afford to run two vehicles :(
If we come in a car big enough to throw in it, I will make sure that it comes along.
This also means that we might be roughing it in a tent like you plebs :D

Seriously though, I'd love to make it down there if possible but can't make any promises (so don't actually put me down). But, if it's OK I'll just keep tabs on this thread for now and let you know nearer the time if I can get. If spaces run out or you need absolute definites for booking, count me out to make sure no one else misses a chance :tu:

Consider yourself 'penciled in' :D

I can't commit to a day yet . I havn't been given the works roster for those months yet . I work two on two off so I should be able to swap a shift and or take holiday to suit . Thundernoodle hopefully will be my partner in crime for the weekend but he's in the same boat as me but I'm sure we'll sort something .

As the first of these dates is (scarily) only a few weeks away perhaps we should set a closing date for the list. How about we say Sunday evening?
Also worth remembering that this is open too anyone who thinks they can make it, so if you want to come along then throw your name on the list.

OK looks like we're not going to get any more confirmations ATM so why don't we tie down a date and let Tony book the place. :)
So the way I'm reading this is that Zag can't do the middle dates which leaves us with:
21-22 may, 28-29 May, 13-14 August or 20-21 August.
Now I have a slight preference for 21-22 May but that's mostly 'cos I need a break and could do with the excuse to get away for a few days and really don't want to wait until August. :D

What's this archery tuition you speak of Mr Sparky? Not sure I have the time to book the mastectomy but I'd love to have a go if it doesn't have a hefty price tag attached to it (the archery not the mastectomy)
Looking forward to the meet :tu:

Sorry guys I'm going to have to bow out of this one, things have got real messy this end and theres some major issues I have to deal with in three separate areas of my life. It's a shame as I'd have loved to come, but I'm sure there'll be another opportunity at a later date :tu:
Have fun, and keep those arrows pointed forward

Damn, we're low on numbers.... where the hell is everyone this year? :(

Perhaps offering lard and recreational flogging would bring up the numbers?

Damn I was looking into getting a ppp yesterday too ::) better be more alert in future.
come to the MT meet-up and you can have a play with mine. :tu:
Sounds filthy  I was seriously considering it but SWMBO is hassling me for a holiday, so i'll have to see what dates we are away for before I commit.
would this be a bad time to bring up the lard and flagellation? ;)
Joking aside, it'd be nice to see you there, hope you can make it. :)
I've often wondered why everyone want's to grease me up and whip me............i'm gonna put it down to sheer good looks
I shall look further into accommodating it somehow, it'll be rather enjoyable i'm sure. who doesn't enjoy a little debauchery?
NB/ I figured i'd move this here I didn't want to scare our fellow multitoolers who are not accustomed to ritual beatings and our stiff upper lips.

What time are people planning to arrive? I've got a good way to drive so I'll not likely be there much before 2-2.30 at the earliest but I believe Tony has access from mid morning.

Well I think I might be heading down on Friday evening and stopping half way there, that way I won't be knackered before I even arrive and I'm only doing a few hours in the car at a time. :) Need to check on the logistics with my work and, more importantly, my wife. :D
-
Gareth you'd be welcome to stay at mine on the way down but I thin that as Nottingham is only 2 miles north of the meet it may not be anything like a midway stopover.
I hope you all have a good meetup, I was tempted to down tools and surprise you all on the Saturday night but work has gotten in the way and I need to be in Leicester for 8.30am Sunday, I don't think i'd be good for anything work like the morning if the night before is like last years with you lot

Nearly time. We're a bit short on numbers this year. More a mini-meet this time but I think that gives us an excuse to fit another one in later in the year ;)
I'm looking forward to the en-forced down time. If I start nodding off don't take it personal just prod me with the :pok: :D
Can I share someone's stove by the way?
If there's anything I'm meant to be bringing for anyone please PM/email me and remind me :tu:

Numbers are OK I reckon, though you know I'm always up for another meet later in the year. :) I've got pleanty of gas with me so feel free to use my stove mate. :tu:

Neil, if there's any chance of a little modded Alox turning up with you on Saturday, I wouldn't kick it out of bed for eating biscuits ;)
We still have the van so cooking heat is available without any drama too :)
-
Crappy news guy.... big apology too :(
We can't make it tomorrow - several factors but the main one being that my physical health is pretty awful this week and it shows no signs of shifting. I had hoped I would be getting better by now but the joint are not playing nice and I know I will be in no shape for the journey or the camping out.
I'm REALLY hoping that the August one will be bigger and better for everyone to make it. If I have to be wheeled there, we'll try and find a way. So sorry guys, especially for the late notice. Hope you have a splendid time even if you do have to cook for yourselves ;)

Sorry you can't make it Nuphoria :(

While we did play with axes and Tony's big choppers we didn't take down half a tree, honest. That was a combination of a lightning strike a few weeks ago and some very high winds while we were there. Quite an impressive crash when it came down, though I'm glad we were nowhere near it at the time.

I heard that gareth was going to dress as his avatar for the archery, hopefully the photos will prove this ;)
I was wearing a hoodie at some points, does that count? :D Sadly it was much too windy for anything like safe shooting. :-\
-
I really should get some glasses ::)
I'm glad you liked your food on the well done side :tu:
I'm still very sad about the baked potatoes :ahhh and maybe my 'smoked coffee' is an acquired taste :-\
And a big thank you to Neil for all the beer!

If you were wondering about the big bits of metal (left and top right),
Neil found a couple of Hardies to fit the hardy hole in my Anvil (I just googled that ;) )

Great pics chaps.... still sad I couldn't be there this time :(
Looks like a nice place for the meet too - enough cover to play bush warriors without other people laughing at you/calling the police/mugging you for tools :D

Thanks Bob :tu: I thought there might be someone somewhere in the world that had not heard that one before :D

I may have heard it before, but if so I don't remember. :P (oldy-but-goody jokes are one of the upsides of having early memory loss) :D

I know what you mean about a bad memory :salute: (who's the fat bloke above playing with wooden bricks? )

If I knew I was going to have to share I'd have grabbed more material but to stop Tony :pok: ing me here's our little excursion condensed into an ad. break chunk. At least we have the important bits, sharps, fire and beer :D
This is my first ever video upload.. anywhere. Next time I'll try and get more footage and perhaps even find some video editing software (suggestions for Windows gratefully received as I haven't a clue).

very cool mate. :tu:

Thanks for that Neil :salute:
I guess you put the music on to cover my swearing :tu:
If you look closely (23 second in) you can see me chopping up my 'fire bow' that I very carefully made

Just now getting caught up on the past week's posts.....excellent bit of video work there Neil! The cover music was nice (although I would have prefered to hear Tony swearing TBH) :D :D
-
There would have been too many 'beeps' and 'smurfs' for it to make any sense Bob, Anyway that whole 'lets start a fire with a bow' thing is much over rated if you ask me :-[ :-[ :-[
I love the shot of the fat bloke chopping up that 4”x 2” with the fire and the blue sky :tu:
Thanks again Neil

Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus (http://www.magix.com/gb/movie-edit-pro/). Recommended to me by a BBC editor, but make sure you get the US download when prompted, as it'll cost you less!
I warn you that this video editing lark is very addictive though......
Looks like you had a great time guys :)
