Because I thought the title of the original interest thread might be confusing, I decide to create a new thread for the September Modified SAK Challenge.
Based off the old thread here is who I had as participants.
SAK Challenge in September
1) Sos24
2) Exeter
3) Ron Who
4) Fuzzbucket
5) Dutch_Tooler
6) knifecoop
7) Sheridin
8 ) Max Stone
Anyone else interested? Still have 12 days until the start.

I already have the badge but I might join anyway.. Or just cheer and post a pic now and then?
Can be fun

It looks like we’ll be seeing a few nice mods.
...
I´ll be using the Green Hornet (and maybe Buccaneer, BuSchröder and Rodent)
-
My modded Pioneer (Titanium liners & bolsters with Ironwood scales) is on deck and waiting on September 1.
-
Just a couple more days until the challenge begins.
I will be using the Timascus Yeoman
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190829/c0c7c058100bf695f235011aa11c1351.jpg)
There is also a strong possibility that a Yeoman WS also make an appearance.

Knifecoop - that Pioneer has a nice traditional look to it.

Hi, i'm new to this part of the forum....
What do I need to do?
here's my only mod. it doesn't need to change each day does it?

You post a picture everyday for 30 days (1-30 September) using your mod. It can be the same knife every day just has to be a picture of a modified Swiss Army Knife from that day. If you didn’t use the knife then you just take a picture with the knife in it.
If you want to look at an example, the Explorer challenge was this month so you can look at that thread. The daily posts start at post #91.

Well, it seems I have the honour of kicking off the regular run of this challenge with a group pic of my two participants.
Note: they are wide enough not to risk falling down the grating, in case anyone was worrying :D
Day 1
A morning shot featuring the CyberChamp Lite (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,80133.0.html) and the Cobalt Constructor (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,75772.0.html). More details will be revealed in the remaining days of this month.

Very cool mods.
Day 1
To help get the party started, how about a beer that my Timascus Yeoman opened

Nice start to the challenge! Those mods are awlsome and the same to the rest in this challenge! Mine feels a lot more humble but that's the beauty of mods. They are suited for the user
My day one will come soon
[It's not failure if you learn something from it]
-
Day 1 - feeling a bit worn out after this morning’s early bike ride (nice when there are fewer cars around), but now it’s time get prepping for the BBQ I’m hosting later this afternoon- briquettes in plastic bags (why not paper??) seem to sweat a bit and so need airing in the sun - scissors on the InvesTigator cutting the cords at the top, and for once this one opened as they should, yet frequently seem not to!
-
Day 1 - this is my first mod and was a explorer that got the scissors replaced with a saw. I call it the expedition instead. Glory pic for today and a link to the mod thread.

Exactly. That is why I was excited for this challenge - to see the creations that work for others. Some simplicity based while others are complex and some are modded strictly for utility while others want a little more flare. I love the beauty of my Syph custom mod, but I also admire the skills of those who know what they want and can mod their own.
-
Day 1
My humble contribution to start September. Yeoman mod with the older magnifier and longer Phillips. Nice 3-layer SAK.

Day 1 - Essential party tools
Yesterday evening I went to a birthday party.
It reminded me that a SAK is not a real SAK if it can´t open bottles.
I got up late today and don´t expect any use of the Green Hornet.

Day 1
I almost forgot that it's already September, but I'm here and ready for the challenge, below are my two mods I'm taking part with. Both are Yeoman-derivatives, the black one, made by our friend Mags, is the "Examiner" (nicknamed X-man) with a 93mm inline awl, back side Phillips, nail file hook and combo tool opposite the magnifier, the other one is a nameless one from eBay from a Portuguese modder, with reddish orange G10 scales and a chisel in place of the corkscrew.
Some great mods/customs from everyone so far, this will be a very interesting month!
-
Looking at all the posts so far, I find it interesting how many of the Mods have a magnifying glass and/or combo tool. I imagine this is because of how few current SAK models have those tools.
-
Well, IMHO we're talking about two very different implements here. The magnifier is bespoke in function and one of a kind (disregarding for the moment the various historical variations) whereas the combo tool is more of a space saving compromise between can opener and cap lifter. For this reason I think the combo tool would probably only ever be considered in SAKs with a limited number of layers, whereas the magnifier is more likely found in bigger mods. I am no longer sure how relevant these comments are
-
You’re correct DT. I made a similar comment earlier today. You begin to lose the advantage of the Combo Tool past 4-layers as you’re really then outside comfortable pocket carry, and may as well go back to a separate opener layer. The beauty of the Combo Tool is keeping a SAK to 3 or less layers. :salute:

My IPad is my world! No computer desktop. And my IPhone.
You may want to change your font size as its small. Very small. If you hit the Preview button next to the Post button, you can then see how it will look before you post. Just a thought. :tu:

I use the Tapatalk app to access the forum from my iPad. With Tapatalk you can upload photos directly from the iPad and it asks the size you want.

Day 1:
Thought I’d join if that’s ok?
I don’t have too much in the way of modded SAKs but for now I’ll start with my Pioneer X.
Basic silver but I modded the can opener into a longer reach, smaller flat head driver. Also added a Nite Ize Hip Clip.
Not much modification, but it’s not oem stock anymore. Haha

I’m currently trying to gather parts for a custom build.
Going to turn my MT.O red Pioneer X into a custom. Will add the metal saw/file from a Mountaineer and the inline Phillips driver, to be placed across from the bottle and can openers, placed side by side.
I have the file with my Mountaineer and the inline Phillips driver with my Explorer. I just need a Harvester for the saw back spring ( to be used with the file...) and spacer to be used in the opener/inline Phillips driver layer.
Then I’ll send all off to be torn apart and rebuilt into my red alox custom.

Tapatalk app...I may have to give that I try. I have gotten used to making the shot I want and sizing it and then editing it to get it in under the 500 limit. Thanks

Nice start to Day 2 Rizio :tu:
Monday mornings at the office start with coffee for me and this challenge's Day 2 is no exception, especially after a short holiday.

Day 2 - Two blade layers
The Green Hornet has two blade layers, with a saw sandwiched in between.
The first blade layer is standard: large blade, small blade, corkscrew (but it is a fluted corkscrew!)
The second blade layer: serrated blade, combo tool, and a filler to replace the corkscrew or phillips because neither one will fit here.
Here, the filler is an awl that cannot be accessed but I don´t care. Every SAK needs a tool that is useless to the owner. Mags tried to fit a hook but that didn´t work (in case you didn´t know, it was Magentus who built this mod for me).
The two blades are of different age, the standard blade has a Victorinox tang stamp, the serrated blade a victorinox.
The serrated blade and the fluted corkscrew were sourced from the now discontinued Weekender.

     Can't wait to see that one. The ONE tool missing (in my NSHO) from to many SAKs is the in-line phillips.

Day 2
My Yeoman mod. Compared to Explorer. It’s surprising the space saved by dropping the opener layer, but retaining most of its bigger brother’s functionality.
This is the reason I love the Yeoman. The Explorer challenge confirmed that the difference is noticeable for me in pocket but I don’t miss anything in day to day use, especially with my Yeoman having the awl instead of hook.
-
Haha

Nice electrician and I look forward to seeing your new mod.
I use the Tapatalk app to access the forum from my iPad. With Tapatalk you can upload photos directly from the iPad and it asks the size you want.
Cheers I’ve downloaded Tapatalk so trying it out now, not sure what happened to the size of that text lol
The mod isn’t much to be honest, just a little bladeless piece from parts thrown together.
Day 2.
edc servicing + maintenance.

Two blades, not that is interesting. I am a big fan of two blade...one large and one small...or two totally different style - so this would be a winner! :tu:

Agree. The can opener may be easier to use, but for how little I use it, I prefer the combo tool will for decreasing the SAK width.
-
SOS - so very true!
-
The combo tool function is familiar after years of using a P-38 can opener, too. Pulling to "cut" is seemingly intuitive to me.

I forgot, there's another non-standard tool in this Alox mod: the file and metal saw. This, like yesterday's tools, came out of a SwissChamp.
Used today as a nail file. I can't prove this pictorially for lack of hands, so you'll awl have to trust me on this ;)

September 2 & 3 - the modified Pioneer was used to cut some milkweeds around a solar panel on a fence charger yesterday. Today I'm back in the office at work, so duties for the knife will be to open mail.
-
Day 3 - Woodsaw
As a gardener, I like pruning shears and woodsaws, and most of my SAKs have a woodsaw.
Except the smaller ones of course (58mm, 74mm).
The SAK woodsaws are quite small when compared with other pocket saws but they do a nice job nevertheless.
Therefore my Green Hornet sports a woodsaw; it could never be otherwise.
-
Day 3..
Not much use today, but keeping me company while I’m at the post office sending off some saks :)

Ron and Rizio - you have some nice garden tools and I have to agree on the SAK saw. Also sometimes, smaller is better.
Day 3
I finally got completely fed up with a holly bush and decided it needed to go. The Farmer X saw helped out a lot, especially considering many of the spaces the bigger saw wouldn’t fit.

I, also, used a LM Rebar and SwissTool Spirit to do a side be side comparison. They all performed well, but the Farmer X was more comfortable for me.

Day 4 Bonus
Something new arrived today made by our own Max Stone - Yeoman with wood saw. It arrived in time to get some pocket time and use. But first I removed the nice black scales and added a set of Smokey the Bear.
In its short time in my possession, I have used the blade to cut some dog treats, the combo tool to turn back some tabs on a picture frame, scissors to cut a couple coupons, the saw to cut a couple holly branches, and combo tool to open a bottle of beer. I didn’t get pictures of everything, but here are two.

Day 5 Postie called early today, so InvesTigator liberated my first OC, a Solo with the BBC logo on it, 1960s to judge by the logo, came from the Ukraine, so it’s sort of coming home!
Excellent homecoming! :tu:

Nice pics and uses everyone :like: :tu:

I like that alox with the magnifier!
September 5 - No pix today but I used the main blade of the ironwood and titanium framed Pioneer to open a package this morning and used the small screwdriver tip on the can opener to tighten a loose phillips screw on a cabinet.

Great uses knifecoop :like: :tu:

Day 5 - My favorite blade combo
There aren´t many options if you want both plain and serrated blades, and a woodsaw, in a single SAK.
The Carver was a Vx production model for SwissBianco, but in limited quantities only, and expensive.
I´m very happy that Magentus made the Green Hornet for me.

Thanks, Rizio. I think Smokey fits on what will become my rural edc SAK. Nice add for you.
DT - looks like you do a great sharpening job.
knifecoop - great use.
Ron - Glad Mag got you your favorite combo.

The Yeoman got called into duty for some storm preps cutting paracord and duck tape. Also, opening some batteries.

I took a short break, but the Yeoman still helped, when a package arrived, just in time, with a couple 18650 batteries for a couple flashlights and a new flashlight.

Day 6 - noticed that the “weather station” isn’t receiving temp from the outside sensor, so time to hit the reset button with the mini screwdriver (tried toothpick, but it was too wide):

:like: hmm yes, my next pic shows a SAK mod that lacks a corkscrew, so no storage space for the mini screwdriver...
Good morning on this Day 6 - coffee time!
CyberChamp Lite at attention.

Some great uses for the modified SAKS.
September 6 - TGIF! It's foggy this morning at my home in Tennessee. I hope those in harms way for Hurricane Dorian are prepared and those who have been hit get the assistance they need to recover quickly. The modified Pioneer had light duty yesterday only opening mail and a couple of packages.

Today was combo tool heavy. Used it to pop the covers off the faucet handles in my camper to remove the handles so I could clean under them. It's a passable philips bit in a pinch. Came in handy later to remove a "C" clip holding a wheel on my garden tractor's trailer.

Great uses and pics everyone!
Bonus pic of the day.. The bundle of paracord that gets delivered is always getting tangled up when I try to use it, so for the last couple of years I have been doing this.. Doughnut thing.. Usually I cut it up in 10m pieces but this time I tryed 15m (50 feet) with the blue and then decided to do the full 30m (100 feet) took some time but I will thank my self later.. This way I can use it in a pinch without get it tangled no matter if I'm at home or trying to set a tarp in the forest

The Yeoman came in handy today doing several odd little jobs:
- Used the magnifying glass to check some expiration dates
- Combo tool to pry the back tabs on a picture frame
- awl for removing the tamper seal on a bottle of soap and vitamins
- knife for cutting some dog treats and putting a little spreadable cheese in one
- Phillips driver to tighten a gate screw
- tweezers for some personal grooming
- then the scissors to open a snack before taking a break
Only Yeoman tool not used so far today was the corkscrew. Maybe I need to buy a bottle of wine to make a full use day

Good uses all, with Sos24 really pulling out all the stops!
Day 8
Well this morning got off to a bad start with managing to fall off at traffic lights due to not being to unclip a pedal - not done that for many a year, more embarrassing than injuring! Just finished clearing out the pea patch in the garden, and managed to get some splinters off the pea-sticks! Still, it’s an opportunity to remove said splinters with the magnifier and tweezers - took a bit of digging, but got there in the end - this one was the most well dug in! Before and after shots - bit tricky to do during!

Ouch!
I know our Father has had his hand of protection over me. I was helping another tec at a first time visit, 2 story school and we opened the doors to a unit. I remember yelling “RUN” and took off. He went one way and I another. Hundreds came flying out of that unit. We were off that roof in record time. Didn’t know I could run that fast!

Was busy building a Naked Climber today. Initially tried some new 2.5mm cap screws, but didn’t work too well, so back to good-old-fashioned peening. Was fun fabricating the scales all by hand (2mm aluminum). Might try this again but build a Yeoman. This was a bit of a test...

You were going to get a beer and snack photo but the store let me down on my craving and it is the only store in the area that carried the chips I wanted.

More good uses, guys! Max, love that mod - never thought of doing a “naked” mod before, cool idea! You must have to very careful with the scales to keep them looking tidy (though a bit of use distressing can look good too)!
Day 9
It was a bit dark here this morning, so used the torch on the InvesTigator to see the lock when locking up before heading for the train. The clear torch seems much brighter than its grey predecessor, but I could just be imagining it!
-
Thanks Rizio, :hatsoff: it’s actually a build for my son. He’s kinda hard on the scales so he wanted something a little more hard-wearing. Should suit him well. :salute:

To underscore the exceptional nature of this mod, it has not one, but TWO pairs of tweezers. While I had the scales off I thought I should open up the slot into which the short tweezers fit :D

Some nice posts!
September 10 - the days are passing quickly this month…used the Titanium and Ironwood Pioneer to cut some steak last night. Today it's in my pocket waiting for the next work assignment.
-
Why? Would they imply import tax on this? Or is there an issue due to recent knife attacks?
Should have probably had fees... but the carver was only $10 value haha. but it was the fact it had landed in the UK and hadn’t left London after a few days, I thought it might be customs charges or something to do with it having 2 blades (plus what’s been going on with knife crime) then had the idea they may have been processing them individually (which don’t get scans at each depot.) Whereas the other parcel I had was mixed in a cage, which they scan the cage at each depot it passes through and the cage is just linked to 100 diff parcels for example.
TLDR no updates, I started to worry.

I had to switch gears this afternoon in the interest of the Challenge. Doing a bit of amateur leatherwork and found myself in need of an awl. My production Pioneers have them but...
Wait! So does my bladeless Syph mod! :tu: Awl used to enlarge holes for some brass rivets.
I did find out at lunch with my Compact mod that the scaler makes a passable cheese knife, by the way.

I was in the Kruger National Park a couple months ago and it was almost two weeks before we saw rhino. The poaching remains a huge problem difficult to manage due to the huge size of the park. Almost as large as Belgium.

Smokey helped me open a cheese snack for a quick breakfast in the car, then it further opened the package so my dog could lick the wrapper

I´m staying indoors, not feeling too well. The SAK doesn´t help.

Not good - hope you’re feeling better soon Ron Who!

Due to some traveling, I hadn’t been on reviewing all the posts the last couple days, but I finally was able to this morning. Some really nice pictures and uses.
I was going to take a picture of Smokey and my coffee, but Fisher decided to curl up before I could do it and I don’t have the heart to move so it will have to wait. He is a good little traveler, but these trips take a lot out of him.

Exeter - I really like those G10 scales. G10 seems like such a good material for SAK scales.
Kottskrapa- I understand the toll of switching shifts, fortunately I don’t have to do it anymore. Stay well and get your rest when you can.
Sheridan - low modes on flashlights are excellent for not disturbing. Too many focus on max brightness, while lower modes are also really nice for many uses and save battery power too.

Good luck on finding the Saranac. Unfortunately, it is hard to get your hands on, even in most parts of the US. For me, most of the Saranac beers are favorites plus having grown up near the brewery it also has the nostalgia factor. I take advantage whenever I go visit family.

Day 13
Smokey and I had a busy day. I don’t even remember everything I used Smokey for, but it did seem like I was constantly taking it out of my pocket to do something. I think one of the best uses today was helping me to answer my 7yo nephew’s question - “Why do you have a knife in your pocket?”. This was asked as I was puliing Smokey out to open up his package of crackers. I explained at that point the knife had already been used several times since I arrived a couple hours ago on things that I wasn’t planning on doing but I used the knife or other tools to do.
All you get for pictures is a picture after cutting a piece of my pocket duck tape to tape up a sign and an outdoor shot while walking the dog.

Max - thar camp looks fun, though those scorpions look a bit worrying - when I lived in Tashkent back in the 1990s my cellar was full of scorpions, and we had each leg of the bed standing in a tin with a couple of inches of oil in them to trap any that fancied joining you whilst asleep! Quite often found some in the traps, but one night I heard some scampering around on the wooden floor, switched on the torch and found 2 mice scampering around catching scorpions and eating them by biting the sting off and then consuming the scorpions tail first. Never set a mouse trap!

Well, if there's one thing this challenge has shown me so far it's that other folks lead far more exciting lives than I do! :D Tracking my usage has shown mostly mundane tasks but I guess that's where you really find out what you need and use on a regular basis and what's carried as a "what if"... We made fresh salsa today with tomatos, green pepper, jalapenos, garlic, cilantro and onion. Salt was the only ingredient that wasn't grown in our garden. SAK blade was put to use in veggie prep, scissors used to clip tomatos and peppers off the plants.

Saturday 14 September - busy day this morning fixing some fencing on the farm. Used the awl on the explorer as a make shift tool to install some wire clips that hold barb wire on steel t posts. I started by using Smokey to trim some loose threads from my dress shorts

But then I switched to Tim-man (Timascus Yeoman) for the special occasion. Tim-man was used several times, including cutting some parchment paper for under the old cake topper, removing some staples, opening various packages, etc. It was even used to cut a helium balloon for my niece to inhale the helium.

Well this morning’s cycle ride went smoothly, though I still ache from the events of last Sunday, you don’t seem to bounce back quite as quickly when you hit your 50s!
Never mind, time for some fresh coffee, and, being Italian, Rizio does like his old style, Lavazza qualità oro beans, burr ground by hand, Bialetti Kona pot, and he’ll even let me do cappuccino as we’re safely before the 10 a.m. cut off point!

No actual use today, but I did sharpen the G10 Yeoman on my mug just for the fun of it.
Cool use :tu:

Day 14
Really busy day due to my parents’ anniversary party.
I started by using Smokey to trim some loose threads from my dress shorts
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190915/77a1d724a4370b3446b02458923afdd0.jpg)
But then I switched to Tim-man (Timascus Yeoman) for the special occasion. Tim-man was used several times, including cutting some parchment paper for under the old cake topper, removing some staples, opening various packages, etc. It was even used to cut a helium balloon for my niece to inhale the helium.

Then it was used to open the celebration beer afterward.

Great usages...I always like the helium inhaled.
I hope they enjoy the photo gift you got for them!

More great uses, everyone- I can see my doing beer duty later!
Day 15
Well this morning’s cycle ride went smoothly, though I still ache from the events of last Sunday, you don’t seem to bounce back quite as quickly when you hit your 50s!
Never mind, time for some fresh coffee, and, being Italian, Rizio does like his old style, Lavazza qualità oro beans, burr ground by hand, Bialetti Kona pot, and he’ll even let me do cappuccino as we’re safely before the 10 a.m. cut off point!
Wait till you hit your 60’s. :tu:

Day 15
These Vic scissors are simply the best for precise cuts, such as when you need to work on the bike's electric circuit and need to remove some insulation tube. The final payoff was a working hazard warning light system and additional (so-called 'fog') lights.
Also used to scrape off some wire insulation: the electrician's blade (no pic alas).

Rapidray - nearly half way there! Nice flowers, Ron Who, and good work Dutch Tooler :tu:
After more faffing in the garden, Rizio decided it was time to open a cool one, InvesTigator in paw - he didn’t use the Rapha bottle opener - the combo tool is way better!!
-
Oh dear, he’s got a thirst on, and with the InvesTigator in paw, no bottle is safe....
-
Son picked up a thorn at the campsite. So Yeoman’s tweezers to the rescue.

So many great uses and pictures.

They loved the collage and have already designated where they are going to hang it. It was a big hit at the party because it was displayed while people signed the matting.

Nice uses and pics everyone!
I have to take a step back and will jump off the challenge. I already have the badge and there are just to much stuff going on right now. I will check in from time to time.
Have a nice one!

Day 15
Today’s uses included cutting some brambles that were poking into the alley and cutting the top off a tube of numbing stuff for my tooth. Hurts like hell!!
Oh and slicing a lemon for G+T to help numb the pain.
Great pics today, sorry to here that kottskrapa hope all is well.

Day 15
Found an unusual use for the inline Phillips: I always struggled removing the top of my refillable e-liquid container, until now I pulled/forced it out with pliers, but today I though I could try prying/leveraging it out through the center hole. Worked like a charm.

Hello, some nice uses of the modified SAKS. Looks like fall is well on it's way here in the mountains of Tennessee even though the weather is still very warm leaves are just starting to change and fall off the trees.
September 17 - Not a lot of new tasks for the modified Pioneer but I used it yesterday evening to open some packages from Amazon. Also cut up some pool noodles for the wife to use in her crafts.

Day 17 - Green Hornet and Stihl weed trimmer
These past four weeks I have been trimming weeds and I used my SAK´s main blade to cut the trimming wire, and, occasionally, the woodsaw to deal with weeds too strong for the trimmer. All power tools at our company are Stihl and I have to say that while they aren´t Swiss, they are very good quality. Atm we´re in transit, moving from gas to electric.
I thought it fitting to feature the Stihl September 2019 calendar girl in this September challenge.

Woah there Ron! I thought calendar girls went out of fashion in the 90’s

No doubt It will also be used to open mail later today Let's see what new tasks the day brings for the capable pioneer.

Day 19 - Watch my back
For comis, because he asked a question about this, in another thread.
As it´s impossible to fit a Phillips, or another corkscrew, on the second blade layer, Mags first tried a hook. That didn´t work so he tried an awl instead. It´s near flush with the liners, so it´s inaccessible, but it does give a decent spring tension.

Day 19
Timman magnifier used to read codes on box for activating the wife’s cell phone. The old one stopped working while traveling. Fortunately, I had bought a replacement when flip phones started being harder to find.
Then the knife helped open a package. Package opening is usually exciting except when you know that it really isn’t for you. The company made the mistake of shipping me a package worth almost $300 that was suppose to have been sent to someone in Novia Scotia according to the packing slip.

Those IPAs look tasty, Sos24! Max - I wouldn’t trust a cheap vice like that with a nice watch case, but it should be fine for what I want it for! Great work all, and some more interesting mods!
Day 20
Noticed I managed to split a finger nail, so a quick trim with the scissors and a file with the one on the back of the hook on the InvesTigator (it’s the back tool hook that should be on all Vic SAKs with the hook!)
:iagree: Wish that was on every hook

...a file with the one on the back of the hook on the InvesTigator (it’s the back tool hook that should be on all Vic SAKs with the hook!)
I wonder if supergluing a strip of 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper to the hook could work? Maybe on the inside edge. :dunno:

Overkill, but the awl makes a perfect hole for the straw.

Day 20 - Tripel Karmeliet
Tripel Karmeliet is a strong and tasty beer brewed with barley, wheat, and oats. It´s a bit early for an adult beverage but I have to make the pic while daylight lasts. Oh the things I do for MTo.
-
Day 20
Cooked a lattice of bacon.
Scrumptious!
Used mod to open mail, cut the fat on bacon as wasn’t cut properly, cut ciabatta roll, awl was used to lightly free some weeds between paving slabs.

Day 21
Chilling in the garden, while the weather is still nice :)
Reading my free VW mag and trying out a new gin, love sipsmith! Usually just go for plain or sloe but found this lemon drizzle.
Realised today that the reason I’ve been feeling so pissed is there are 2 numbers in my gin measure.... been pouring quadruples instead of doubles hahaha good times.

I know I've been MIA from here for a couple days... but I'm back with a couple pics today. We pulled the remainder of our carrots from the garden this morning, and diced them to shrink wrap and freeze for winter use. Used my SAK to cut them up. Made 1000+ cuts over the course of a couple hours. No hotspots or sore points on my hands. I do need to take the blade to my Sharpmaker tomorrow though. Also used the corkscrew to loosen a knot in nylon rope that has been outside, tied tight, since last summer. Worked great! :D

Day 22
Despite the forecast of cold & thunderstorms, it was pretty warm first thing, and a ray of sun inspired me to harvest some tomatoes before the rain does start - these are San Marzano which I’ve not tried before, tasty but they’re a bit late for outdoor growers, though thankfully no blight yet!!

Started with the Timman where the magnifying glass helped me read the dosage instructions for an herbal itch remedy I sometimes give my dog. September 25 - Used the modified pioneers small screwdriver on the can opener to fix a closet door latch last night. Today I used it to open a package of food for breakfast.
It is quite revealing when you document your daily knife usage for a month. I've been reviewing all of the tasks I used the knife for and have determined that I've had no need for a tactical, fast opening, steel door puncturing, prybar of a knife so far this month. Anyway the titanium scaled, ironwood handled pioneer has served well so far.
Happy Fall 2019!

That is one thing I find fun about the challenges. I’ve also found that sometimes I experiment with using the SAK to see how well different tools do different tasks, which leads me more to using it more. One example is how well the back edge of the combo tool works for scrapping stickers off prescription bottles.

Nice collection and storage idea, Exeter! KCCO - been tempted by that one in the past myself - nice find! Great work once again everyone!

Up early for what will be long day at work, so freed some new toys, sorry tools, from their packaging (sadly the InvesTigator is not up to cutting cables!)....

KCCO, like the new addition.
Day 26
I’ll probably have actual use later, but thought I’d post a snack picture of what you can have when instead of cutting and eating apples you change them into other food.
Apple Fritter and Apple Cider with whiskey to wash it down.

Family pizza night in the kitchen. My son with his Naked Climber (prototype #1) and my Naked Compact helping out. What’s great about these mods is that they’re super-easy to clean as there’s no plastic and nowhere for water to get trapped. I even recon I could stick them in the dishwasher...may just try. They’re only brass and stainless steel. :dunno:

Great use. Pizza sounds good, especially homemade. Now that does remind me that this is Thursday which is my most common day of the week for ordering pizza. Might just have to get one.
Here is a bit of irony. I love NY Style pizza. I was recently visiting family in Upstate NY, where despite being NY, most of their pizza is thicker and not NY style. So now that I’m back in Virginia, I can easily get a real good NY style pizza.

Sorry I didn't post each day, but I enjoyed following along and seeing everyone's uses and photos. I learned I could probably get by with a Compact but where's the fun in that... :)

Day 30
After moving our cupboard a bit, the door hinges got ever so slightly misaligned, the Examiner came in handy adjusting the screws.
And wow, another 30 day challenge just flew by, it's almost like we started last week. Congrats to everyone who completed the 30 days, and a special :hatsoff: to Max Stone for his very nice mods made during the challenge!
Thank you Exeter, it was a great challenge and there were some excellent mods used and on display. Exactly what we all wanted to see.

Yay - great work all!
Day 30
We’re finally here! Time for Rizio to crack open a special one.... he’s been saving this for the celebration!
A day late, but

I was a little surprised when all our shop had was it in cans, but it is the only place I’ve ever seen it.

You found a can! :tu:

A can seems more appropriate somehow! :like:

 The can does seem appropriate.
It is strange how, at least in the US, only cheap beer came in cans. Now many craft breweries can beers because their allowed in more places than glass.

 This is the only one of theirs I’ve had and there is only one place around that even sells it, by individual cans/bottles, but I do like it a lot.
