my original intro seemed a bit ...cold . so lets delve a littlle deeper shall we ....

been a knife and tool collector all my life . fell in love with leatherman tools the first time i saw the pst . also loved the backstory of leatherman. at one point i collected ALL kinds of multi tools . but then i realized that there were jsut too many different brands out there and lots of them were .... less than highest quality ..so i whittled down my collection to just actual leatheman tools . i tried to collect every one i could ( up to the wingman ) but when the MUT came out i was done . too expensive , too specialized. i also was a little let down by the kick , and blast lines . .

as far as knives go , i was a avid but uninformed collector for years . my collection contained alot of what i like to call "pretty crap" . the stuff you get at flea markets and what comes from pakistan . then i bought my first benchmade knife . it was the mchenry and adams (?) d2 tool steel . hated it . BUT !!! then i got a 530 . LOVED it . and that began my love afair with benchmade knives. several months after getting my first 3 benchmade knives i gave a friend of mine a shoe box with about 50 "pretty crap" knives .....i used to think kershaw was the bomb , now its the lowest that i will go .

so thats me ... oh and i fish . ALOT

Welcome aboard old man, jk, I’ll be hitting the “4-0” in 6mo, the wife did last year, yet both of us feel as if we’re in the 60’s.. errr..
Great forum, any questions, ask around, someone is bound to know something, if not someone will come up with something, that’s what I love about this forum, it’s like a big family!

hello, and welcome!
We (many of us here) also started bein guninformed and acquiring lower end stuff only to discover what quality gear meant and was  :ahhh

that knife was probably the McHenry and Williams BM 710, in D2, I have one thanks to a member here (Nix, you shall know him soon  :hatsoff:) and it is a...polarzing knife, many hate it, many love it, few are in between.  ???

it's a good knife but I see the attractive of the 530 over it, lighter, stainless, easier to carry, straight shape blade, etc. :like:  A great piece no doubt! I bet you'd like the new BM Bugout and the old BM531 too, very much in the same line and with similar specs   8) :tu:

and yes we get spoiled and hardly ever come back to lower quality stuff, but Victorinox and Leatherman are good because they are the best in their price ranges and no competitors come close to deliver what they do for you money!  :multi: :climber:

Have a great time and see you around

You might want to think a bit more about your new thread titles. "Old guy new member" might get most people me thinking about some medical procedure...
