I would like to thank Sparky for taking the time to answer my questions
I bought a old Hults bruk axehead for about 6 euro that I hoped would work. Then I saw the Hudson bay axehead pattern and thought it looked cool
A bit of duct tape and about an hour with the angle grinder I ended up with this
A before and after pic as well as a couple of the progress.
It went from 1.6 kg to 1.3 kg so not that much was removed, but I like how it turned out
Now I just have to get a handle and sharpen it

That style I like a lot better than the style common with American axes. I have a 600 gram Stihl (Ochsenkopf) and that style allows one to exert more control for closer cuts. Great job! The only reason I haven't done something like that is that I rarely see any cheap axes (or even heads) at flea markets or anywhere else. A small cheap hatchet (used) was like $12. And eBay isn't worth it unless it's a really valuable axe, shipping on even a cheap axe head ruins the deal. Even worse if it's still got a handle.Keep looking and I'm sure you will find one

since I grew up using a bearded axe, I completely understand what you mean by control
