To my surprise, you can actually get a good folder for less than $7!
For the last couple of days I have been EDCing a sub $7 SanRenMu 7065RUC-5C, and its actually pretty nice little gentlemans folder.
It was a little gritty to open in the beginning, but it has a solid lockup and no bladeplay.
It also came very sharp, almost spyderco sharp, from the factory.
Im liking it a lot so far. :)
Time will show how well it holds up.

I have three of their HO2 knives, and they are perfectly fine little knives. I dare say that one of those would handle most of my cutting chores perfectly fine for several years.

A quick update.
This little SRM is still going strong. It needs frequent stropping to stay sharp, but its easy to maintain. The hollow grind makes it a real nice slicer.
It does have one issue thoug. The tip of the blade is just barely under the edge of the scales when closed. That means that you can cut your fingertip when pressing your finger against the opening just infront of the tip of the blade. Espescially if you drag your finger towards the tip at the same time. See pic below.
I might just grind the point down a bit to fix it.

You could try filing a bit of the part of the blade that hits the stop ( don't know what you call it ). I've done this on a couple of Trad. folders

note that you need to take off a tiny bit, check, take some more off... and so on, slowly.
If you take too much off then the nail nick will go too low inside the knife body and you will not be able to use it to open the blade
