I ordered a "Gerber Shard" knockoff on ebay from china some time ago, and I was expecting a generic clone.
Instead, I got this.
A very real looking box.... :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh (Though I don't know what a genuine Shard box looks like).
-
I'd say that's genuine Pabs  The 01769 model number is correct - it has a bar code and everything!
What made you think it was a knockoff when you ordered it?
-
Oh, the usual things.... seller based in China selling scads of them, for something like $2 each.
Sure, they could be from the Gerber factory, “out the back door”, as they say, but would Gerber allow that?
Oh and one more thing that makes me suspicious.....
The 2D Philips driver doesn’t fit any Philips screws.
The point is too thick and blunt for it to work properly.
I think that it might possibly be partially the fault of the black coating, it seems rather thick.
-
Hmmm, that changes things. The 'proper' version philips looks pointier at the end.
Also it doesn't look like there's a blade included in the pry notch...............

Ah, that confirms that I have a counterfeit. :tu:
I knew I wasn’t getting a real Shard, I just didn’t expect it to be trying so hard to look like the real Shard, to the point that I wasn’t sure if it was fake or not, ::)

I bought some cheapo ones a while a go as well, the only way to tell they are a knock off is the poorly cut philips driver part of them.
-
I have 2 knockoffs and 1 real.
The most immediately noticeable diffrences are
1) lack of proper grinding in the philips makes it unusable in most cases
2) the wire striper on the fakes is ground in a U like a gut hook or line cutter; while on the real one it comes to a sharp V
3) Gerber etches eather a model or SN in the back side.

yeah the phillips looks very pointy on amazon pic, but faking a box and label is very easy compared to the tool.
