Post by: sergemaster on June 05, 2010, 10:06:08 PM
Hey guys,
Where can I source new replacment blades for the mighty Gerber Artifact? I tried the local arts and crafts shop, and even Ebay but to no avail.. Possibly online?

Cheers,
Serge

The last blades i bought for my Artifact were Ace hardware brand assortment pack.  Xacto brand also fit like Mike stated.

I wonder how many of the different types of blades fit

The Artifact uses "Type A" X-Acto blades.  So the shank holder will fit #10, 11, 12, 16, and 17.  I've tested it with most of those, and it closes perfectly on #11s (which is the blade style it comes with) and #16s, the scoring blade.  #10s, the deep-bellied general purpose blade, will usually work but bottom out slightly on my particular Artifact on closing.  It will not close on the #17 chisel blade, and I haven't ran across the #12 mini-carver to try it out but I think it would probably work OK.  The Artifact shank holder is more sensitive to thickness than a real X-Acto, so some other brand of hobby blades that should fit won't.  In particular, Model Master #11 style blades were too thick to even fit in it.

Unfortunately the cool hawk-bill concave carving blade is for a different shank type.
