I'm sure I'm not alone in believing Benchmade knives are the best money can buy. Here's a place to post photos of your beloved BM knives. Balisongs also are welcome. :salute:

there's just something about a 710 that makes me go
Nice Knife Steve. :tu:
-
Thanks Joel, I'm loving it so far :tu:

This may just be my favorite knife :D
-
I'll snap a pic of mine tonight.
-
This D2 steel is scary sharp... it's got to be the sharpest blade I've ever seen!
-
I been eyeing the 710, do you feel it is too big / heavy for EDC?
-

Well, it's considerably bigger than the 943 or 531 but, no, I don't think so.. It's great!

Here are a few Benchmades.I have more but I'm too lazy to dig them out.

I had my auto phase many years ago but these days I just prefer a dual thumb-stud and Axis-lock. :tu:
-
Yea those axis locks are fast and really smooth.I'm sure you know that you don't even have to use the thumb stud,as just a flick of the wrist will deploy the blade.
Unfortunately I've never been able to get past that auto phase. LOL.

Al Mar GPA General Purpose Automatic Switchblade Knife
I got this NIB GPA from Mr Mar sometime in the late 80's after the SOF convention for $65
It is marked on one side of the blade, U.S.A. 0056 above the Al Mar logo. On the other side it is marked ATS-34 above the Bali-Song logo. Black handle and partially serrated blade. Serial matches the box. Sheath has Al Mar logo. Small instruction sheet.

I am searching for my next knife.
Played with many in store (Kershaw, Cold Steel, ZT, SOG, Spyderco, Buck), None of them really connect with me, I think I will stay with BM for a while.
The three possible choices I have currently are:
BM 551 from REI for $80
BM 15060, but I wonder if I could use its gut hook as seat belt cutter, if I could then that will be the winner.
BM 943.
-
Just came back from knife store, here is what I confirmed.
The gut hook on 15060 is very similar to the safety cutter on BM916 in term of shape and size.
I am pretty sure it could be use as safety cutter.
But I am really falling in love with the 943 :D
-
You're comparing apples and oranges, purpose wise and well as price wise.
Griptilian= general purpose knife.
Grizzly Creek= hunting knife.
Osborne=tactical folder.
Buy the one you like the most and then buy the other two at a later date.LOL.

I understand that, but I will use them all in the same way, my way.
The only reason 551 is one the list is that I have 20% off at REI.
15060 is new, well built and made for hard use, I like that. Also the wood looks very good.
943 is just a great knife. But too many of us already have it. :(
I will get them all in time.

I still got the spyderco.
I do miss this one. It was a great edc knife
-
Traded this one off.
I had a spyder bug again. I think I funded my zdp endura :)
it didn't much care for the blade or the fat plastic handles, carrying a bright orange knife also wasn't for me.
orange is my favorite color just not for knives .

Showing both sides. I ordered and pre-paid for 5, and my GF visited Portland, picked the up and brought them home to Florida in her luggage. She was more than a little PO'd when she found out the possible liability. I gave her one knife to make amends. She is gone, I miss that knife. I wonder what would be worth now?

Some very nice knives here.
With envy I was thinking- "But I have no Benchmades"
Then I remembered-But Hey! I have one.
-
Did some test cuts on various items around the house, its performance met and exceed my expectation in every test.
Knife blade: rolled up magazine paper, raw porterhouse steak, belly hair.
Gut Hook: Padded envelopes, cardboard, rubber hose, heavy zip tie, 0.5" Nylon Rope, seat belt.

http://www.benchmade.com/products/15060
It is a hunting knife for heavy use with low maintenance, but I am not a hunter. I just really like the wood look and its heavy built.
Gut hook is a bonus for cutting seat belt, ropes, opening package etc. Sadly the hook is not OHO, but I can mod it easily.
Edit: BM lists its weight is 4.76oz, but it actually weights 4.3oz.

I was gifted a 710 for father's day, but I didn't like it, I don't know why, just didn't feel it. So I exchanged it to the H&K Axis
710 is a bit longer.

You can't tell the difference between the bm 550 and the 555 except the latter has a larger thumbhole opener.

Oh, I thought the 555 was the Mini Grip. I like full size liners compared to the partial ones on the larger Grips.

At one time I had over fifty . I got smurfed off at Benchmade , as they were unwilling to sell or give me spare Omega springs . Gave them all to a Dude collecting knives for forward deployed troops in Iraq and Asscrackastan .
BTW at the time I was a practicing locksmith , and was well able to beal with springy things .
My fave Benchmades were the 520 , and the 350 ( best IWB folder ever )
I'm tempted by a brightly colored Mini Grip for work , now that they have a variety of blade shapes , and steels . Tho to be fair , Benchmade's 440C was superb .

I want a Griptillian someday. I happen to like the looks of them. As for the few I own, I really like the 943 the best
-
I like the looks of the Griptilian, but got the G-10 scales to make it unique and kind of "my own". Something I've taken akin to lately, which unfortunately just makes things more expensive. For the price of my Griptilian + G-10 scales, I could've gotten several other things in their place.
My next knife is a Spyderco though. Just got to pay off some CC debt.
I was contemplating a Benchmade 710, but dollar for dollar, I find the Manix 2 to be so much more knife at a better value.
Plus, it gets me venturing into other brands. :)

I do not care what mall ninja reviews say about this knife. (weak liner lock, no jimping, lack of traction, tip down only etc....)
It is a large elegant EDC knife for me.

The blade was so off center it was touching the scale and the laser etching was supposed to be silver not that weird gold color. For what I paid it should of been perfect. This was after I had to return my other Griptilian for coming with a very off center blade.

The two I hope to own are a Rift and a Mini Grip with the sheepsfoot. But they come at a premium and I will probably never own a Rift.

Benchmade 915BK Triage.
Probably my favourite Benchmade model.
This is a new acquisition and has grippier G10 than my original run orange handled one.

The Minigrip with sheepsfoot is the same price as all the others. Blade coating not in mind.

Giving this guy a go for $15.
I know it's not perfect fit and finish like a $100 Benchmade and it's a Big5 exclusive but still not bad. Figured I'd thrash on it and report back.

CPM M4 is a great steel and I love my Benchmade Axis folders.
I really wish they made the G10 handles as stock options on the Griptilian series. They are so much nicer than the plastic ones they currently use.

Y'all are NOT helping my growing urges to drop some $$$ on some Benchmades!! Would really like to get a H&K Axis and an Auto Adamas. I'm sure the Grips/Mini Grips are great knives, but I don't really need anything in that category, plus I honestly thought the handles felt cheap when fondling the ones at the store; now the Barrages, that's a different story. I recently discovered the AFOs; now I gotta have one of them too!!

I know how you feel, but that's why I rather collect fixed blades......
I want to cry when I see some of the folders out there, BM included, but the prices are just silly.
Very high on my want-list is a TOPS Prather War Bowie.......I can buy that PLUS an 8CR13-bladed Spyderco for the same money as the Benchmade I'd like to buy :-\
Great knives guys :salute:

I prefer a smaller knife for EDC but the slim profile and weight on 940-1 is exceptional.

I finally got a minigrip. Its better than I imagined. It feels much ore solid than the full size grip which was a very pleasant surprise. I was going to buy some AWT aftermarket scales for it, but to be honest I don't feel it needs it now so that may save me $75. :D I like it better than the stock full size grip.
I will get all the Benchmades together for a pic in a few days.
-
Different experience here entirely, and I'm a benchmade enthusiast. Those plastic scales fell short of what I wanted from the grip. Had to get g10 scales to make it a proper well rounded knife imo.
-
You have seen it before, but here it is again :)

Well I feel the way you do about the full size and I got the aluminum AWT scales for it, but I just feel with the minigrip its not really necessary. Are you talking about the minigrip or full size?
Again just my opinion and the minigrip may still get some aftermarket scales, but i'm in no hurry on this one.

AXIS LOCK bump!

This is my only Benchmade. Lovely little knife but it doesn't get used anywhere near as much as it should on account of it being a locker and not legal EDC here - which is a shame :)

On the pricier side (for me) but the Benchmade is the best knife I've ever owned. And I am completely 100% satisfied with every piece of the design and build. Top notch customer service too.
Oh, and that axis lock tho!!!
-
This is the smaller version of this model. It has been a pretty good knife for me.
-
The axis flipper is another favorite of mine. It got partially opened in my pocket one day and I cut myself getting change for the laundry machine. I didn't carry it for a few weeks. lol....

-
Did you polish the orange accent off?
Yup, and the backspacer. I absolutely hated that crap on the knife.
-
Beautiful knife. I got my hands on one the other day and I absolutely loved the knife. It's on my list for sure. I like the color orange and actually liked it, however this is a great look as well.
This knife is much bigger than I initially had thought. I like it :D
I can tell you do to kampfer as you like this and the esplada >:D
Please post as many pictures of this knife as humanly possible. It's stunning imo.
-
It is a very nice knife and I will go as far as calling it best of Benchmade, but I never carried it.
Now I just can't stand the orange anymore so I got my hands dirty and mod it to suit my taste.
It is really not that big comparing to my other knives.
-
No doubt. But I think it's on the bigger side for most. Look at the pocket clip and how much more knife is left at the end ::)
Why don't you carry it?
-

Because I don't like the orange color, now after the mod it will see some pocket time.
-
Lol you bought it when it had orange accents :pok:
The more I look at this I do really like it. Although I also think the orange goes great with that dark wood. But, what you did to that back spacer does really look nice.
:tu: :tu:

:tu: :tu:
Yea I bought it to mod, otherwise I would had buy it sooner.
You can see the earlier photo I posted back in July, first thing I did was remove the orange on pivot collar. And now I also polished pivot altogether.
Backspacer is easy to mod, after I came up with a plan, sand down and remove the gear pattern of it then paint it over with sharpie, with the black over orange it actually looks like it was made of wood
I try to dye it but the G10 wouldn't take the color.

Smart guy. From what everyone says, you just can't go wrong wth the 940 and that it's quintessential edc knife by the masses. :tu: :tu:

I absoloutley love the knife. Everything about it. I have a hard time even coming up with a small gripe, from centering to the grinds everything is perfectly manufactured. It just really works for me and has been a great tool, although I could understand how it could not be ideal for some. I love the looks of the layered g10 and tan color, as well as being a great hold and weight and has good texture to the g10 and angles on the cuts. The blade shape is great and useful. Oh yeah and the pocket clip is the deepest carry best pocket clip on a knife or multitool I own, it's great ride in the pocket and the clip lends itself very well to removing from the pocket too with the proper indent for the finger :tu:. The steel is extremely sharp and stays that way for a long time. The blade is stout for a pocket folder and the grinds are absoloutley 100% on point :D
I also love the methods for deployment. Thumb stud and flipper. It's excellent. And the axis lock, well, it's the best!! :salute:
I took it camping this last weekend and used it for everything. Everything. From featherstick finesse too battoning firewood!! It makes me an extremely happy camper the way it performs!

Ok, I'm convinced...
I really like the axis lock... and flippers. But a lot of reviews claim it is an uncomfortable grip, so I hesitated (not a cheap knife).

It is well within the realm of possibilities, that I have one incoming, though if I have it would be black/blue.

I read that too and I know what they're talking about. Luckily I was able to go into sportmans wearhouse and test one out for myself before I bought. So that was good. For me, it was a really nice feeling knife. It's kinda like shoes, you gotta try them on because everyone's feet are different...
Except for the 940, I've never heard anyone not like them :salute: . But I wanted something a little more tactical this go around.

Not sure on that either. Also the only thing holding me back, besides the price (is the price), is the D2 steel. Good steel but not sure it's the combo for me. I do have a d2 knife and I do like it though.

Hmmm. Not sure how I'd feel about no liner. But they are using a handle material I've never heard of. So probably light and strong I'd assume...
I like weight to a knife personally. And the grips are already super light.
-
Yea I have abused my mini grip. The full liner is why I picked the mini grip over the full size. Mini griptilian is 2.65oz. And bug out is 1.85 as info.

I think they only have 2 flippers. Not really there MO. More of a ZT thing for sure.
But I agree. I love their Axis Lock!
Have you seen the new grizzly ridge just released in the hunt line. People are absoloutley loving them from everything Ive seen and read.
Nice Crooked river Kampfer!!

Excellent group of BM's Nix! Which ones your favorite.
I'm really starting to gravitate towards those Rifts. Haven't held one yet. :tu:
-
That is a Rift auto...so, it's useless for me. I carried it while on active duty, but, now,......meh. However, I do have a replacement manual-opening Rift on the way...... :tu: :tu: :tu:
I want to tell you the Osborne 940 is my favorite. I do. It's such a great knife, the perfect EDC for me. But,.....I think the Griptilian would be my "go to" Benchmade. Maybe my "go to" knife. The Griptilian is a seriously underrated knife.
That Elishewittz designed Ares is my favorite Benchmade. But it isn't a Griptilian; not really.

I don't know about being under rated really it seems the Grip are pretty popular where I have been?
Here are a few of mine that are not in bags waiting to "Go" or something.
I like building them too and seeing just how smooth they will fly out with a little tweaking. :gimme:

I didn't gel with the half liners on the grip, the balance didn't work for me, so mini grips get my vote.

now that the AXIS lock patent from McHenry & Williams has expired, I'm curious to see the new versions of the lock that made BM famous made by another companies. :ahhh
Hogue has already taken the lead in that race, but if the AXIS is as good as they say I bet quite a few competitors will soon add it to their knives
Good idea that patents expire or others can share and profit from functional improvements and better mechanisms :gimme: AXIS!

It's a bit of an indulgence, but I really like the Rift design. I have a Rift automatic, but as I can't use it--not legal in Montana and most states--I'm sending it to another MTO member. This bad boy will replace the auto and actually get some pocket time. I got the auto during my days in military service when carrying an auto was authorized. It's nice to have the Rift back in my rotation now!
-
I understand why they outlawed auto’s back in the 50’s if I remember correctly when all the “thugs” had stilettos, but it’s a bit ridiculous when a waved Spyderco or Emerson opens even faster than a auto yet they are perfectly legal to own and carry.
-
I really like them too and both sets of mine were for some reason Blem priced too?!
I also wish I had know they were releasing the newer style scales when I got my second set as I probably would have waited and paid more to put them on the Ritter but such is life.

Agree. And, you could literally thumb flick or axis flick that knife open just as fast if not faster than the auto version! It's not like it was even button operated... smh
And correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Montana have some of the most lax gun laws out there? It's ass backwards if you ask me
-
And correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Montana have some of the most lax gun laws out there? It's ass backwards if you ask me
Montana has very reasonable gun laws. ;) Some of the best in the country. And it is perfectly legal to open carry a sword or Bowie knife. But, and I don't quite get this, switchblades are a no-no.
The Rift auto has some sentimental value for me, but otherwise I just don't need it. The replacement Rift manual is great, although not quite as nice as the auto in some respects. The auto doesn't have a thumb stud and has a slightly more slender blade; as a result, I think it's a tad more useful.
Nevertheless, I think I have found the Rift Auto a good home with someone who can use it. That makes me pretty happy, since all knives deserve to be used. :tu:
The manual looks like it'll be a work horse. :2tu:

HK 14715 I think?
It is an Axis Lock made for HK by Benchmade but has G10 Scales and a D2 blade and is clearly similar & different than a standard Mini Grip at the same time!
I think they discontinued them?
I have had several Mini Grip' and they were just too small and light weight for me to get a decent grip on but these HK fix all of that and are one of the few smaller knives I like.

That’s excellent! I need to find one of those. Just bought a Spydie Manix 2 and the ball bearing lock is very similar to the axis lock.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
They do seem similar but it is mostly just on the surface too I think.
The Spydie is a great and tough lock but the Axis lets the blade literally just fall free of the scales when released.
I have tried a lot of Spydie of this type and have 2 Manix kinives but they do not feel the same as an Axis lock in motion.
Nothing at all bad to say about either but they only look the same really.

When I hold the BB lock open and the knife parallel to the ground, the blade falls free of the scales rather smoothly. Hmmm, who knows?
I’m with you on the axis though; I don’t hear many complaints on it. I’m having a tough time finding yours on eBay or otherwise... gotta keep looking :-)

to you both,
ye, the H&K line was discontinued for 2017, no more models produced, and the older ones (which were quite the value IMO, and big sellers) are getting rarer and pricier.
CBBL is similar in looks to the Axis, but it has key differences in its functioning. :ahhh
Usually regarded as stronger and more durable in the long term (in comparison to the Omega springs wearing out or breaking in the AXIS lock) but also stiffer and not as easy to repair/maintain, so the AXIS wins in smoothness and feel for most people and in most models. :tu:
There are always exceptions though and both are excellent, safe and fun locks to use and own. :salute:
PS: Love all the H&K models and they look better than most BM knives to me. Excellent pieces!!! :like:

Excellent info! Thanks so much! I’d love to try and find more of the HKs... the Flak I have is a spring assist with a liner lock. The previous owner must have never used it because sometimes I have difficulty flipping it out the scales. Stiff... but I love it.

BM did excellent knives with the H&K label and even a weapon-oriented blacked out multitool (pretty lame IMO) :P
but as happened with its red class (Asian Benchmades) it apparently "lowered" the brand's perception and "top quality" business model so they ditched them out, now Hogue is doing the work for H&K and now that the AXIS patent has expired (2018) they've been the first ones to put that lock on their knives,
https://www.hogueinc.com/knives/hk
essentially bringing the good old H&Ks under a new company and revamped looks ;)

Well, courtesy of my friend Nix, I now have another maker I'm hooked on :pok:. I have to say I'm very impressed with this knife. It feels like it was machined out of solid steel, cuts the hair from my hand, and carries like a dream!

It's one of the nicest feeling knives, for my hands, that I've ever felt. And the action is somehow better than buttery smooth. Theres nothing I can think of that I don't like about it. I really enjoy using it! They still pop up from time to time. I got this one within the last 6 months or so. Good luck :tu:
Thanks guys.

El P,
I know you've had the McHenry & Williams design for a short while, but I'm curious about your thoughts on it. Does it carry well for you? Good ergos? Too big? Concerns about the knife steel? How does it compare to your ZT or Spydies?
I myself like the fluid motion of the Axis lock. Seems to be one of the easiest locks to open. And has a nice strong lock-up. I find the Benchmade Axis line a bit addictive. It's interesting how that lock transitions well into different knife designs so well.
I'd be interested to get your impression (especially after completing a Buck 110 challenge recerntly ). :tu:

I've never owned a griptilian. I've handled just about all the models, I like the shape, but they always felt "cheap"to me? I know I may be in the minority with that statement. There are endless amounts of customizations which still piques my interest. But the grizzly ridge is just perfect in my book!

My first Benchmade.
a great classic form Benchmade, :gimme: probably their most iconic fixed blade :salute:
and with those serrations, the name couldn't be more appropriate!! :like:
-
I didn't realize its been around for a while. The serrations are not 1/2 of the total cutting edge so having them there wasn't a deal breaker. I typically prefer all serrated or not at all. These seem to make sense. I stropped the PE part and wow it come to a wonderfully wicked sharpness, 154CM is pretty nice.
-
BM 154 is by far my favorite steel. Great heat treat, can take more of a beating than S30v (in my case)
-
I have an Emerson in 154 and Leatherman also in 154 both are great. I've never experienced Benchmade at all so this is new for me. I did a light strop on green then diamond spray and whoa. I now want to go thru my my 1k and 6k stones then thru my compounds . I bought with the intention of trying out this blade and my first Benchmade. I dont care for the sheath. I like leather and may look for a leather sheath. Kydex isn't my thing either. I'm not tactical in any sense but this blade screams beat on me or am I just hearing things again ::)
-
:like:
-
Benchmade does a great job with their 154cm.
I have two Osborne 940 folders, one in 154cm and, the newer, in S30V. I prefer the 154cm version. That steel gets sharp and slick! Nothing wrong with S30V, a steel I like a lot, but 154cm has wormed it's way into my knife-loving heart.
-
My Nim was super sharp, too. I had a PE Nim and it was a great all-around camping/hiking knife. I gave it away several years ago and the new owner also loved it.
-
I’ve gone through quite a few BM’s, and these seem to be my favorite two

But that 808 Loco I have is the same length and same blade thickness. And it really isn't so bad :tu:

Thanks, for the applause! These are now 'legal-carry' in my state, so I thought I'd grab-one before the next price increase from Benchmade. :hatsoff:

How is the 'snap' with that Adamas?
My state is thinking about allowing autos for carry. We'll see. I had an auto Rift for a while, but gave it away when I couldn't carry it legally. Nice knife. Fairly good 'snap' when opening. The Adamas is one of those folders I occasionally contemplate....maybe I should wait until our legislators make up their minds about legalizing autos.
-
Can always get the manual adamas :pok: :D
-
Oh, it's the manual Adamas that tempts me,,,,but if I could get an auto version..... :dunno:
-
The Adamas has a stout spring to say the least. Make sure your holding-on tight, when you fire-it!! It's a big-chunk of D2 steel being launched. :D If you want something 'legal' to carry, by all means grab the manual-version of this knife. Benchmade has raised their MSRP prices in 2019, up to about twenty-dollars for every model. Last place, that had them was Cowboy Safes in Dallas at the old price. I now, have to pick-up a manual-version in G10 black, because they are just as awesome!

Already thinking I want another as a backup and to customize. Wouldn't mind trying some grips that match the liners, add the glass breaker, and add a lanyard hole where you have the unused threaded holes for the clip on the other side.

I don't have a Benchmade folder. Question is …..
Should I be looking at one?
To all the Benchmade owners here .. having had one, if you didn't have one would you in hind sight get one?
This is considering that the local knife store here they're 300+
Would you pay that?

Wow...300usd for a benchmade! What models are we talking about here?
I really do think the answer kinda depends on why you want one and the budget.
If it is for collecting purposes, well, BM is BM, so there are a few classics that you will only get from BM--I personally think Griptilian and 940 are the faces of BM. However, the novelty of axis-lock have subsided due to IP expiration, and you probably can find other brand that offers axis lock as well.
Quality is pretty good. I once baton firewood with a Griptilian for half an hour, at the end of it, only some loosen screws and no visible chip/damage to blade(I think it was S30V, surprisingly good). I know, I know, it often views as plain stupidity to do such thing, but now I have a very solid data point about the quality of steel/construction/lock of that knife.
When it comes to QC, I would recommend getting one in hand before purchasing it. There are a lot of reports in State side about the inconsistent QC, but the good thing is BM has a pretty good warranty, so most people would just ship it back for a replacement or repair. But getting it oversea is a different story, the shipping/tax could be a problem.
In terms of value, with the rise of (semi) mid-tech and Chinese manufacturers in recent years, I think many knife enthusiasts would start questioning whether it is worthwhile to pay the BM tax(or premium). With the same money, you might even find better material/feature/design used from many manufacturers.
-
I have a Buttload of Benchmades and I don't think I have a single one that I bought new?
I have had great luck buying pre-owned and save a whole lot of money doing so and that is sure how I suggest getting into one if there is a used market to draw from in your area?
Now some of mine were brand new when I got them but someone else took the hit and bought them that way and then just never used them?
I rarely do that and try to use all of mine.
I have sure read about issues too but have not really had anything that I could not easily work out myself either.
I am sure people can get a bad one but I have not.
These are not Nuclear Reactors, they are tools and most tools can be tweaked if made correctly in the first place and my Benchmade experience has been that they all were.
And yeah, there is no other knife that I have handled that duplicates an AXIS lock like the original to me.
-
Thanks ezdog :salute:
I would use it. Hear a lot of people talking benchmade ( eg. this thread) was a thought so asked the question.

Osborne is a really classic model, I have the 940-2 and love the G10 and the blade shape. I heard a lot of good things about 940 original, but could never warm up to the green/purple color handle. Flick it open a few times, and I was hooked, great knife.

At the current exchange-rate, that would-be about $208 USD's. I have paid that much, and more for a 'Benchie'. I would still have bought my AFO, and Adamas models in hindsight. My knives span-the-spectrum; between Swiss Army pocket-folders, and clip-mounted zombie-stoppers. In most instances, you get-what-you-pay-for. I never understood people who spend money on 'junk-knives', and then viciously complain, when they inevitably fail to perform. The old adage applies: buy once, cry once! I'm currently, looking at a Cold Steel 4Max, which usually retails ca. $260 USD's. If I want something bad-enough, I'll figure a way to get-it. As fellow member ez stated: the 'axis-lock' is one of the strongest on the market, along with Cold Steel's 'tri-lock' from Demko. Really hard to beat Benchmade's Black Class of hard-use knives, and they stand-behind their products with a good industry warranty. Also, consider there are a number of other high-end knife-brands [SOG, Spyderco, Cold Steel, etc.] just as good as Benchmade. In the end, it's up-to-you on how much your willing to pay, or not. For performance, and quality knife-people are the best resource for questions. But you have to realize we are enablers too. :D >:D Good luck, on you quest. Stay sharp!!

No kidding, :iagree: totally!
I think most Osborne designs in the Benchmade lineup are great, except the 470/477 which I really think the guard could be a little oversized and the handle a little short. But few other Osborne series will go down history as Benchmade classics.

Hard used my Rift (154CM) out in the garden yesterday.

Cut up miles of old, dried jute twine and some bamboo. I figured it would need to be resharpened today, but, a bit to my surprise, a few swipes on the strop brought it back to hair shaving sharp. Benchmade certainly does seem to do a nice job with their 154CM.

Awesome knife Nix. I liked it but wanted to make sure it would be something in hand I really liked. I got a knock off and it was amazing. I ended up gifting it to my partners son. I then looked for one and whoa, discontinued and spendy. I realized after a while that I am more a small knife guy. DF in ZDP is about the best darn knife thats happened to me yet. I still cannot thank you enough. :hatsoff:

I'm super-happy that you are still digging that DF. What an awesome knife!
I love the Rift (partly sentimental, mostly utilitarian), but if I had to recommend one (1) Benchie to anyone, it would be the Griptilian. That design is fantastic as an all-around knife.
Edit: specifically, this one (stock image):

I can't stop carrying this one since getting it and it even has an issue with the scales!

Whenever I pull this Anthem out, I just remembered how it felt the first time I played with it and falling in love with it all over again.
I have always loved my Osborne 940, and this Anthem fiddles like a 940 but with a very unique metallic sound whenever you open and close it, thanks to its integral structure. With recent years of semi-mid tech knives from all these Chinese manufacturers, this may not be the best value knife out there and the BM "tax" does felt high on this. But it truly is one of those "buy once, cry once" deal.

Picked up my first BM folder, 556 in 440C steel. Bit rough around the edges literally. Theres a small crack in the plastic scales and the blade was dinged up and dull. Very dirty and just over all worked hard. A bit or time on my Lansky and its all good to go. I ordered a pocket clip from BM. I flies out now that I added some oil to the pivot. Never held one and I didn't realize how small this knife was. Good size for me tho. Figured if the guy I got it from couldn't destroy it and I think he tried it should be fine in my hands.

In all seriousness; every knife company seems to have a 'flagship icon' model. The Adamas is one of Benchmade's. Just like SOG has the Tomcats.

Update on the sharpening: A couple of minutes(might have been 5) on a fine diamond stone and some strokes on a strop and it's shaving sharp :like:

Nice duo, Nix! Hard to beat the 'axis-lock'. :like:
-
It's easy to start playing with the action. Pull back on the lock and the knife just flics out. Repeat, just clicks back closed. The axis lock in a Benchmade has to be the smoothest action of any knife I've tried.

I agree. I think the Grippy is one of those that you have to handle to appreciate. The smooth action comes, I think, from a few factors: 1) the axis lock with it's light spring, 2) the slick bushings Benchmade uses at the pivot, and 3) the nicely finished blades on Benchmades. When it all comes together, it comes together right. :tu:
-
It really has such a great feel to it. If anyone is on the fence I can like many before me, highly suggest a Griptillian. Even if I am very late to the party.
-
The Mini Griptillian is the only knife I think I could get worked up about that I haven't already got - looks lovely and by the sounds of it, works lovely too.
-
I think the simplicity of it threw me off :dunno:. The seemingly "cheap" handle as well. The individual parts just seemed like they were asking a lot for it. What I have found out is the sum of all parts is what makes it such a nice knife. The Mini Griptillian is what I have and its just a doggone good knife. Add in "nicer" steel and it really is a wonderful package. Mine is 440C and after a re grind to fix some issues and use wear its a real razor. I'm carrying it for work which means it'll see rubber hose, plastics, some textiles, and various other material. Its been great. I strop my blades when I'm relaxing. This has seem my strop so the bevel is becoming more polished and stays razor sharp.

Bout a year ago I found a Benchmade Griptilian in the road by work. It looked a little beat up and the clip was a bit open. I started using it as a work knife back when I was installing AV. I should have bent the clip as I lost it about a month later. Easy come, easy go. ::) ::) I've never lost a knife before this. I still have my cub scout knife.
Thing is I was really impressed by it being a workhorse. After a good oiling and sharpening it worked flawlessly (besides the bent clip).
Went down and bought this today for my edc. Griptilian 550-S30V :woohoo: :woohoo: My first " over 100 dollars " knife.

When I first found it it looked like it got ran over and had tar on it. I thought it was a cheap no name. After cleaning the tar off of it and oiling it up , I looked it up online. I was kinda thrown off due to the scales and the knife being so light.

Hopefully the 940 will be to your liking chip :tu:

Along with the Cold Steel blades on my 'want-list', I have the Adamas Auto in black G10 also; vying for a spot in the collection.

That is really nice, here in the uk although it’s not illegal to own an automatic knife it’s against the law to make, sell, hire, give, lend, or import them. So unless one falls from the sky you can’t obtain one legally.

Got this in yesterday thanks to spudley112, very generous donation giveaway. I could not be happier it will make the perfect second knife EDC.
It even arrived sharp, spudley112 did an excellent job with the stones.
As a comparison I put it next to my Queen Sunday go to meetings knife it weighs in at 1.6 oz, the benchmade is only 1.9 oz. The bugout is a lot of knife for the money.

She has got used to it now :D

:2tu: She is however always surprised IF I don't have a SAK or cutting tool on me. Off topic, we were at the store yesterday and a young mans back pack was open. I saw that his contents were spilling out so I said, "do you know your bag is open?". He said the zipper broke. I reached for a safety pin and NOPE  I didn't have one. She was surprised as was I. When we got home we promptly put some in our daily carry, me in my wallet and her in her coin purse.
EDC fail

Very true. I have always carried safety pins tho. I guess I didn't realize I gave out or used them up, her too. She did remember tho that a female co worker needed one so thats were hers went. Such simple EDC item.

Sadly, Benchmade does not ship scales out.
They only get replaced at the factory, which would cost me $105 in shipping...
So I went with some DIY repairs:
Before:
Grabbed epoxy filler/rebuilder:
Threw some on:
Started shaping:
-
The crack got glued shut first and coloured with a Sharpie.
Further shaping:
And finally: colouring, shaping and colouring (because the colouring process revealed uneven bumps)
Done:
Looks better in person than on pics, to the eye it's perfectly flat and a nice, matching colour.
I used red and black Sharpies to mix it into a dark brown and used some kitchen paper to rub the ink into each other.

I never could find the missing piece. I never dropped it and I am not sure what happened to it. Nice repair though.
As many Benchmades have scales that you can buy, I have had little luck finding any custom scales for the Crooked River.

Benchmade +1
Ordered a Bugout, but also bought Ti scales and blue Ti screws from "Flytanium" which leads to a beautiful, industrial looking knife.
No more handle flex that some report (even though that wasn't too bad IMHO).
A bit thicker handles, which I like! And a weight increase from 55 to 80 grams.
The weight increase is a non-issue to me since I'm not an ultralight-way guy anyway.
Regarding the weight, as standard, the Bugout is extremely light and a perfect knife for someone looking for a decently sized knife for as low weight as possible.
It's really slim and barely noticeable in a pocket. The tradeoffs in return are neglectible IMO.
-
It’s definitely a beautiful looking knife :like: :tu:

The Bugout is a great knife!
Can't wait to start my day and slip it into my pocket!

By the way, Dean, does your Bugout refuse to close when the blade is halfway and you release the Axis lock?
Opening goes well, but the lockbar prevents my knife from closing in any position.

I don't think refuse is the right word. As with my other axis locks when the blade is about 3/4 closed the lock will pull the blade shut.
Maybe the pivot is a bit tight on yours, if that's the case a very slight loosing will free it up. I also use a light oil like REM Oil.

Nah, refuse... And. Grinding noise.
The blade flicks open/closed well enough with the lock disengaged so I think my pivot tightness is ok...

I think that it was wise for Benchmade, to make this model in D2 steel. It is a multi-functional knife, but not in the sense of Swiss Army. I'm thinking of grabbing another 'Addie' as a gift to myself. All-black is a must with a straight-blade format. Just haven't decided on a manual, or another auto. A couple members have the manuals, and seem to love-them. Cabela's has a 'special addition' in Kryptek for $275.00; way too much for a manual.
-
That one us sick though to be sure!
I also have a 2nd one that is black and both are manual but I cant bring myself to start using it either as i only need 1 user i think?
I would love to get a combo edge version at some point too.
These are just such a solid tool!

Super smooth! Keep toying with the clip - not sure how comfy it is - zoid sent it with the factory clip and also the deep carry clip - I'm in the experimental stage with them. The deep carry looks lovely with the butterfly engraved on it, but the factory feels more comfortable in hand.
Lovely overall though - very impressed. Would be interested to try the 'Spydy hole' blade as well.

I have the factory clip. It rides nicely but those deep pocket clips are discreet which is a nice feature. I always fancied those as well. This being my first BM folder I understand how one could acquire a few, for testing purposes of course ;).

I was checking-out my 'edge' at-the-range. When loaded with typical 230-gr. hardball, the S&W 625 is a tack-driver. Deadly, at 7-yrd. combat-range. Sub 1 inch groups at over fifty-feet. :tu:

The 625 is a heavy-revolver, with little or no, felt-recoil. It's just inherently accurate David. Shoots to point-of-aim with head-shots, and center-mass on a regulation B24 target.

It is mother of pearl. This knife is not worth its $800 MSRP. I think $300 is a more appropriate MSRP, with street price should be about $250. It reminds me of the SOG Arcitech with Damascus VG-10, which is just as beautiful, and cost much less.

Been back on a Benchmade kick lately. I sold of several a few months ago to the fellas here. There were other models that I really wanted so I decided to get them instead of talking myself out of it again and again.
Just picked up a 550 Griptilian (thumbhole model) in S30V, a 943 (clip point Osborne) and even though I sold my Contego (Aloha loves his!) I found a GREAT deal on a new one and picked it up. These knives fit my needs really well. I may end up getting the Benchmade 550-1 in CPM-20CV with G-10 scales (hearing good things about this knife) in the near future.
I will try to get some good picks in the next few days.
-
Yes I do love the Contego very much. I carry it nearly every day and have used the heck out of it. Glad to hear you picked up some great knives :tu:

The 550-1 is definitely a fantastic knife. The G10 textured handle is so much nicer and better balanced than the plastic one. The only complaint I have is the choice of gray color. I would rather black.
When I first knew of Benchmade, all I saw were Griptilians, which I would honestly say lacking the cool factor. You can guess, my first Benchmade turned out to be a Grip 550-1 :dunno:
Some lucks in trading got me a few models. My current collection

I would love to see Benchmade reissue the Nagara (second from the top left). That is one sexy gentleman folder.

Oh boy, thats a fantastic collection you have there! :like:
It is also a great comparison photo and I can understand the Nagara as a gentleman folder. Think I would go with yesterdays choice as the gentleman’s folder. The MOP and Damascus just screams ‘gentleman’s! :hatsoff:

:o Sweet collection. When I first began to hear about BM I also thought the Griptillian lacked ( everything ) so I passed and passed on them . While simple the Griptillian is a great knife and now finally after years of passing on them I understand.
-
Thanks, guys  Some of the ones I have are more or less collectible (first 7 from top right). Should I have them in retirement pofolio? :D Of course, BM can pull a douche move like LM, when those retail exclusive models ended up in their regular offers.

I was able to snag a Benchmade 550-1 in CPM20CV steel with the gray G-10 scales. I wanted this knife to have its own personal flair so I ordered a flat blue titanium pocket clip and flat blue screw set for it. I was looking at possibly using dye to color the G-10 a different color...I have been reading about how to do it.
There is a gentleman from Russia that sells some very nice micarta scales online that I may eventually end up ordered (when I have the funds).

Looking forward to seeing it’s progress when you do get it

Newest addition, a 940-1 with S90V blade and CF scale. Anyone deals with Yerdle Recommerce? From what I found on Google, they resell used goods for retailers. In my case, they sent the knife under REI name. So, this knife is likely a REI return, Yerdle did the clean up (if any), warehouse, and shipping. I was concerned if the knife would be a Chinese clone. All signs confirmed it a legit Benchmade. :D It looks completely unused. :D

I must say, I have read on forums before, where people have been critical of Benchmade knives...especially in terms of QC. I must be very lucky because all of mine have been top notch. I have always carried a Victorinox with me when I leave the house and my second blade has rotated through the years. When I bought my last few Benchmades, I decided THEY would always be my other knife of choice.
When I bought my Benchmade 550-1 in CPM-20CV, I knew that knife would always be in my pocket from now on!

I have a question I hope someone can help me with - Would the blade from a Benchmade 555 Griptilian fit into the handle of a 556? I want to get a yellow mini Grip, but I don't really want the thumbstud not do I want a 154cm blade. I thought I might be able to switch out the blade if the dimensions are compatible.
-
I don't know, but I would think they are the same tang wise :tu:

Yes, it is my favorite lock. And comparing how SOG, James Brand etc... do it. I think Benchmade has really dialed it in best.
The Griptillian is also very ergonomic.

New guy, new image.
Love me some Benchmade but pricey stuff and if I understand it correctly, a fully functional axis lock is a no-no in Canada. My mini Griptilian would be ok, as would the the Triage, but not so for the Osborne. Was looking at maybe adding a fixed blade Benchmade, but honestly, my old, inexpensive Gerber is very useful and sturdy.

I guess I dont understand what you are saying here?
What is a Fully Functioning Axis lock vs one that is not exactly?

You don't understand what I wrote really poorly? Note to self, don't post late at night after drinking.
Not the axis lock that is the issue, not the lock at all. It's the blade opening mechanism that is assisted to varying degrees in my knives pictured above. The griptilian doesn't snap open with a single handed motion easily, or a flick of the wrist so I believe it would be allowed in Canada (though the thumb stud on each knife allows it to be opened with a single hand). The Triage is looser so if I practiced I might be able to get it to open by flicking my wrist. The Osborne on the other hand snaps right open quickly and aggressively. I think Benchmade calls it Axis Assist and I wrote Axis lock. Whoops.
I'm trying to understand the regulations/laws in Canada pertaining to assisted opening blades. I like the mechanism, it's fun to play with. I own the three Benchmades above but also a number of Kershaw knifes that make use of their Speedsafe opening system. It's my understanding that you can no longer import these into Canada and have them function with the assist. Stores like Cabela's still sell them but crank the mechanism/blade tight so it doesn't function. So I'm trying to determine if just owning and carrying an assisted open blade could get me in trouble. Make no mistake, I'm not carrying these intended as weapons, they're tools to me for cutting things like boxes, strings, whatever the situation may bring. But even things like a Spyderco that have a thumbhole or other knives with a thumb stud may be considered illegal now as they can be open with a single hand. I believe Canada is heading towards the situation in Great Britain.
Hopefully that makes more sense.
-
Interesting but this is the first that I have heard of an Assisted Benchmade though I know that they offer some in an Automatic Version which is a lot more than just assisted too!?
I have to wonder really of they do offer any assisted or if the differences you are attributing to this being an assist is really just the bearing being loose or tight in standard AXIS lock knives?
I have several that will drop free on their own weight and flick with little effort that are just that loose and I have others that are so tight that they will not but I don't have any sense at all that it is anything other than this?
Do you?
Further I can usually take them apart and clean and polish everything a little bit and reassemble and adjust so that all of them are that loose.
So I am not saying that I know what you are saying os right pr not but I have not heard this mentioned anywhere before either? :dunno:

Maybe these links explain it better than I did.
https://blademag.com/knife-news/canada-knife-import-ban
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXnf0430zA0
From what I can gather, at the moment it's an import issue more than anything else. My concern is it becomes more than that. I'm not entirely familiar with the situation in England but I fear that's where we're headed - short version of that is that carrying any pocket knife is illegal.
-
So after watching the Video and reading the article I am staying with my original assertion here that the only reason that your Benchmade seems more acceptable to you regarding this is that it is not one of the loose ones at this time.
All of the Non-Assisted AXIS lock knives can be tweaked to be more or less hard to open with a quick flick but they do not make a version that is and another version that is not, this is all I am saying.
So your particular example of a Grip might be fairly tight and seem to you to qualify one way here but I am saying that all of the Benchmades using this mechanism are exactly the same unless an actual Assisted Version of them is what we are talking about.
I am willing to bet that if you go and try several different examples of your exact same knife that they each will be somewhat different this way as that has been my actual user experience and is why I am saying this again.
If I am wrong I would love to understand that they make a different tighter version of the Grip for example on purpose?
But it does seem clear that they are trying to make almost any knife that opens unacceptable in general and that for sure sucks in many ways.
Thanks for the response, it is appreciated.

I want one too, regular size, but the color offerings are not my cup of tea. I wish they would make the desert tan handle with the black blade in non-auto. I'm almost certain that I could color that handle nicely and maybe strip the blade.

It’s amazing!! Not only is it a beast, but it’s the smoothest, best operating knife I’ve ever owne!!
Maybe my Sandrin Torino (with ball bearing washers) is smoother. But it’s tinier size makes it more difficult to fidget with...

Second hand mini grip : full disassembly and cleaning, took the time for an exploded view
I'm wondering what are those strange holes in the blade tang : those are not present on the other mini grip I have (standard 154CM blade and FRN handle)
-
It seems to me, IIRC, that they are to identify the blade steel so that the assembler will put the correct blade in the handle. Wouldn't want you to get S90V by mistake.

Interesting, so I should find the same pattern on other 556-1 disassembled over the internet? and another but consistent pattern for all m390/S90V ones? (and none for 154CM or S30V which are/were the default option of their era?)
btw, here is a picture of my 154CM 556, the steel liner is also cut differently than the 556-1 they might not be from the same period of production (both are second hand)

I may need to sell it back to help fund my next potential Benchmade (mini grip Ritter hopefully)
-
This is one of my favorite fixed blade. I use it a lot for work. I was not a fan of the sheath mostly cause it was meant for military use? I added the paracord and dangler so I could carry off my belt. Its worked nicely and the sheath is actually really good at retaining the knife.
Benchmade Contego.

And a wonderful family it is. I was slow to Bench Made. I found it hard to believe how good they are. I was so wrong. Such a good knife.

Got my first Benchmade in 2011, a Benchmite with levitator lock, a cool little knife, but very average in quality/usability.
I've always been lurking at their knives, they seemed of good quality but quite expensive compared to others...
So I waited 2021 before I got my first minigriptilian
And here we are in 2022.

The call of the steel. :gimme:
-
Here are my few Benchmades.
They are good quality, so why don’t I have more? I think it’s a combination of not finding many of their designs appealing, along with relatively high prices.
I’m intrigued by the Weekender, but with the street price looking like $225, I probably won’t be getting one unless I find one deeply discounted.

I've not journied about in awhile. Decided to have lunch with the Rift today
-
One of the many incarnations of the Bugout. This version features aluminum handles, a black M390 blade, and red anodized accents.
Pros:
- Overall F&F - very good, typical Benchmade. Blade is slightly off center, but not enough to contact handle
- Action - very good, typical Benchmade axis lock, no play in open or closed positions, completely ambidextrous, doesn’t really lend itself to being flipped open but opens easily via thumb stud
- Handle texture - might be my favorite thing about this knife. The straight lines radiating outward from the pivot enhance grip without being too aggressive, and are both tactilely and visually pleasing. Nailed it, Benchmade.
- Lanyard hole - Benchmade succeeded here in including an attachment point that is available for those who want one and completely unobtrusive for those who don’t. This should be par for the course, but too often manufacturers either fail to include a lanyard attachment point for those who might want one, or they include one but it interferes with getting a proper and comfortable grip on the knife.
- Blade shape - Simple flat ground drop point blade has good belly and usable point
Cons:
- Handle size/shape - The problem here is that the butt swell combined with the handle length of 4.2”. I can barely get four fingers of my XL hand on the handle, and it isn’t as comfortable as it could be, though it might be a perfect fit for someone with small to medium size hands. This could have been fixed by either scaling up the whole knife to more like 5.2” closed (Bugout Max, Benchmade?), or by eliminating the butt swell.

Good looking knife.

There's a while I let you down without any update on my quest to "getting [all/most of/some] the minigrips out there" (spoiler, I won't succeed this quest)
So here is a Cabela's exclusive D2 blade and tan handle 556BKSND2

I'd imagine there are quite a few. You can still have a lot of fun trying. Nice addition.

much more than i'll ever have , but yeah, very fun to pursue and discover new models

I’m intrigued by the Weekender, but with the street price looking like $225, I probably won’t be getting one unless I find one deeply discounted.
Well, it happened. I found one at a pretty significant discount.
I love the concept of this knife: not one but two S30V blades, plus another useful tool.
Unfortunately, this design just falls short.
The handle is quite wide and oddly shaped, which makes it ride awkwardly in the pocket. And as it comes sans pocket clip or sheath, loose in pocket is the default.
One might be forgiven for hoping (or even assuming) that the trade off for this extra width would be a supremely comfortable and ergonomic handle. Sadly, however, this isn’t the case at all. The points where the straight line of the back of the knife meets the arcs at either end may not appear particularly acute in pictures, but they are definitely sharp enough to be uncomfortable, and would no doubt create a nasty hot spot on my palm under sustained use. My hands are larger than average, but not freakishly large. This is the type of thing that makes me wonder how a design with this sort of flaw goes into full production without the problem being discovered.
With regard to the bottle opener, I didn’t have any test subjects handy, but Benchmade did a nice job making it easy to open and close, making it unobtrusive when closed, and including it in the design without adding any additional thickness to the knife. When it comes to pocket tools, though, a dedicated bottle opener is a bit lazy. For one thing, a bottle opener is an easy thing to improvise if you don’t have one. For another, if you’re set on including a bottle opener, at least combine it with some other functions a la Victorinox.
Clearly a miss, Benchmade. I know you can do better.
Weekender shown with Case Large Stockman (75 pattern) and Vic Deluxe Tinker for scale and comparison.

That weekender is cool. Always with the bottle opener? What gives? Is there a universal reason why its always included?
If these makers think buyers of such items are also beer drinkers they have to know most can improvise an opener. With as much beer they think we drink we better know how to open one.
A bottle opener for me is a waste as I dont drink beer. Still a cool knife but I'd agree, lazy.

3.5” of CPM-154 steel in a package that weighs just over two ounces and features Benchmade’s proven axis lock is impressive.
The handle is heavily textured but not uncomfortable. It appears that one of the ways Benchmade shaved weight was to forgo full length steel liners and instead opt for much smaller steel plates around the pivot and lock area.
Benchmade opted for a thumb hole in lieu of a thumb stud. They managed to implement it without introducing any unsightly humps or bumps in the blade, and it works just fine.

I’ve been giving this thing some carry time, and I’m impressed.
The wide, flat-ground blade starts at only 0.09” thick and comes down thin behind the primary bevel. This isn’t a “hard use” folder, but it cuts like a laser!
-
That sound good to me. I like my folders to be laser cutters. I want to slice thru ripe tomatoes with ease. My fixies can handle to harder tasks.
-
Check out the latest! Found this bugout for a great deal at the local gun store, these bugouts really impress me, fantastic blades!

Yes indeed! Still a great design all these years later.

I posted this previously in a different thread, but here’s a BM Puukko…

looks very good

I agree, they did a good job on the Leuku as well.

Love those pukos!

I ended up with a couple I'm happy to say. This one is a favorite, Benchmade 183 in S30V. Its a big boy but I like that.

My 555-1 mini grip with the 20cv blade and g10 scales.
Don’t care much for the black blade, but it was used at a great price. Got it off BF 2 years ago and the seller threw in the 85 dated old cross pioneer I have with it. Quite the deal for $100.

Very nice, and you definitely got a great deal!
I’m with you on the black blades though.
Unless perhaps someone is legitimately in covert ops? Idk
I prefer my steel naked. :-)

VERY nice deal. Black blades are not a deal breaker for me. I think your 555 looks terrific.

BM Anonimus
I’ve been on the hunt for one of these for a while, and finally scored one at what I felt was a reasonable price.
Fit and finish are as expected from Benchmade.
Handle is comfortable, and accommodates my XL hands with room to spare. The subtle ridges improve grip but aren’t overly aggressive.
Balance is perfect, right on the first finger.
I also really like the sheath. It seems to be excellent quality, and holds the knife firmly and securely (passes the shake test) with no wiggle or rattle, but not with such a death grip as to make it difficult to draw. It’s a pet peeve of mine to pay good money for a decent knife, and then have the sheath be some cheap crappy afterthought. I also don’t relish buying a knife, and then having to spend more money on an aftermarket sheath to make it actually carryable & usable. A good sheath is important; if I’m going to carry a fixed blade in the field, I’m counting on the sheath to protect me in the event of a fall. This means it must (1) hold the knife securely enough that won’t fall out, or be accidentally knocked out or jarred loose, and (2) be of such materials and construction that the knife can’t puncture, cut, or be driven through the sheath. Kudos to Benchmade for providing a quality sheath worthy of the blade!
-
I can't agree enough about a good sheath being provided. Thats a great looking knife. Congrats on getting one.

:iagree: Very nice!!

Thanks guys!
Here’s another incarnation of the Bugout…

Proper in S90V and CF. CF is very well done. I would have preferred a clip point, but got a good deal on this one.

I got myself a Benchmade Mini Claymore (because why not?)... But the blade is shorter than the Bugout, and depending on the the hand position it is almost a 3 thinger knife!
So the regular sized one is coming so I can find it's blade and handle too big
PS: if you like smaller tactical looking knives, the mini Claymore isreally is perfect.
-
The only one I have left is this well used Mini Griptilian my wife gave me for my birthday years ago.

Ah, a Bugout!
I have a couple and like them; I just wish they were a bit bigger.

It is small but handy. My Alox Minichamp weighs more!
