Here's my Centurion with a new Mini Mag Solitaire. I like it because it's a LED and small enough to fit in the same sheath with my SAK. Can I get my first badge now??? :gimme:

Nice set. :tu:
What kind of pouch do you have?
Is it this one?
Hercules with Coast G19.

I have a similar pouch for a Leatherman but I have the one in the picture I use for the Centurion and the Mini Mag. They fit in together just right.

My normal carry is a super small EDC light with the Minichamp

I have that spork too. It has a 'knife' on it, in the loosest sense of the word. It pretty much just tears and makes a mess of things. ;) but it's a great little tool imo
-
In today's world Boonies, nothing would surprise me! Kaput, I agree with that. The "knife" probably gouges and tears more than it cuts, but we've got the complete color combo collection for the family and they've been just about everywhere. That one is actually the wife's, as mine is green. Matched up better with the Handyman scales.

My experience with the LMF Spork has been mixed. The plastic ones are fun to carry, for sudden attacks of food while trapped at work, but they eventually snapped across the middle. I'm not worried about a repeat of that with the titanium.

The Minichamp and Nano is what I carry all the time... Depending on my mood and situation, the Yeoman and/either the Swisstool Spirit will go in tandem. Most often, the Yeoman gets pocket time. Same goes for the Maglites... Solitaire LED stays in my edc pouch... Again depending on mood and situation either the Solitaire LED or the mini Mag gets pocket time.

Ahh, forgot to mention, Rambler and Life+Gear LED permanently stays with my car keys. Overkill? Hopefully not. Hahaha. I don't drive my car on a daily basis. Sometimes I do car pool or take public transportation. Doesn't hurt to be prepared, always. One is none and two is one.

No - its just stainless steel (I didn't even know they did a Ti version)! I bought that light in '08 I think it was and its still going strong and isn't bad even when compared to more modern designs. I do recall it was a nightmare trying to buy it from County Comm(?) - had to use a US dropbox in the end lol.

Yes, they make Ti, brass, copper and stainless. Might even be others. I have kind of a mod of that light, Lumitop body to give me the click on feature and a Maratac head to give me the additional brightness (138 lumens). It's in copper....solid light. Adds about 1/2" to the length but it's one-handed.
-
Oh dear, I feel some Ti coming on.....
It would go nicely with my Charge wouldn't it?
Brass sounds nice too :D
EDIT: Btw - I like the sound of your mod too - superb idea that.

I jazzed up my beater Compact and it pairs rather nicely with the Olight i3E EOS. It will be interesting to see what they both look like in 6 months time - they're both far too shiny and clean at the moment :)

I jazzed up my beater Compact and it pairs rather nicely with the Olight i3E EOS. It will be interesting to see what they both look like in 6 months time - they're both far too shiny and clean at the moment :)

It's called armytek wizard pro. I like the fact that when I use two hands to hold my multi tools :D I can clip the light to my jacket pocket, sleeve or to my baseball cab and get the light where it's needed. It also came with head strap and can be used as a headlamp.

That sounds pretty cool - I might have a closer look at that - thanks :tu:

You know, I'm just scratching my head about what to take with me on this camping trip tomorrow. (Lot's of people will be about so I won't risk a big illegal locking blade) and that setup looks pretty ideal for belt-carry.
I know I've got a LM sheath somewhere with a flashlight loop - might dig it out and take a Juice or something.

Hi Liekki,
I'm not sure which part of the world you're in but I was able to get the black nylon scales from the UK Victorinox importer.
You could try your Victorinox importer or a Victorinox flagship store.
Black cellidor scales are quite easy to find but the nylon ones are a bit harder to track down.

My maker friend suggested 3.5mm-4mm thickness for 2 layer knives for better grip during use... Thought I'd give it a try...

Not sure if this counts but I use it more than any other light. It's a Cygolite Expilion 800. It's for cycling but slides out of the mount for handheld use. It's too bulky for a pocket carry but it is BRIGHT and gets the most use of any of my lights.
If I'm leaving the house after 4pm I generally take it. Of course right after I bought it they cam out with the 850 Lumen version... I want the top level, smurf it.
XM-L2 LED, if that means anything.
http://www.cygolite.com/product/expilion-850-usb/
It's USB rechargeable so if I'm bike packing and the camp site doesn't have A/C outlets, I can charge my lights with a USB battery. But the battery is removable, so in theory I could bring a spare.
The stayglow Deluxe Tinker is a newer thing. Usually it would have been an Explorer but I'm liking having pliers along. Though I haven't actually used them so far.

@mrynnr,
Is this Olight the new one with the 900 lumens? I keep forgetting the model, S1R or something? I've been looking at them for a while and, of course, again hesitating. I haven't bought a new light for many months and now I walk through some really dark areas in the morning and evening  What do you think of the light?

Yes it is! It's a great light! Bit wider than the lumintop though because it uses CR123A batteries. The charger comes with it, so you don't have to worry about getting another charger. Also... like the magnetic tail cap.
-
Yeah, I read some of the basic stuff...
As for the charger, do you think the USB part can be plugged in a.. regular charger/adapter and the light be charged plugged in the power plug on the wall, for example?
How long does it take to charge from the PC?
And a rechargeable Olight battery comes with it, right?
I've long wanted some of these Batons, but these batteries are rather difficult to find around here. So if this one comes with a battery and it can be charged from the PC... and comes with a 5-year warranty.... it sounds really tempting. And you get access to Moonlight mode or the brightest mode without having to cycle through modes... that seems awesome.
Can you post more pics, when you have some free time, comparing its size to some random general objects? :D
-

I see, I love the light, I'm just not sure it'll be comfortable for pocket carry  I mean, if you wear tight pants... it'll be quite a "bulge" in the pocket, right? :D :D

SAK's and flashlights go together like hot dogs and mustard. Or Gin and tonic.
No matter what other SAK is in my pocket for the day, I'll always have my keyring attached to my left belt loop. On the keyring is my Vic classic and Fenix E01. No matter where I am when I leave the house, I ALWAYS have my classic and Fenix. Sooooo many times I've needed a little sharp edge or a light in the dark. Both have done what I needed.

The saw is faded from using a scotch brite pad and the openers are a little marked.
But considering the amount of use it's had it's looking real good.
I really quite like it.

Amici,
Mine today is a vintage Champ along with a 1st generation Nitecore TIP..
I recommend this light for a number of reasons. First It has rugged aluminum construction, very pocket friendly, lightweight, and burns over 300 lumens. Plus it's USB rechargeable.
Near perfection as well it seems to be setting a new standard of bypassing the need to purchase batteries that slowly seems to becoming the new trend.
Cheers,
Serge

Handyman, OLight O'pen, Photon Freedom Covert, LI Glow Panel
The Handyman and the Photon are my daily EDC. The penlight and the Glow Panel are part of my work EDC.
I work in very low light conditions and the glow panel helps me read patient files without lighting up the entire room.
The penlight is for examining pupil reactions etc.

Is that how you use your Nato Zulu strap? You're not taking full advantage of its design.
Check this video, around 7min. Didn't know about this, either.

Only recently did I get a couple of Nato straps. Haven't tried a Zulu yet. I'm looking for some leather to make one myself.

I wanna do this too, how do I request the merit badge? Señor Zoidbergo said it was in his signature on the first page but he doesn't have one now, do I just PM or do we request in thread now?

A little bit lower under your name: Awards -> Show available awards
In the list scroll down (or page on, there are 5 pages) to the award you're looking for. Against every entry, at the very right there's an icon you can click to place the request. Remember to add a link to the thread where you explain whatever you think merits the award in the Comment field.

Back to the belt clip, so it's the Compact and Nitecore Tube.
Like how minimalistic my EDC got.

Not really a flashlight technically even though used similarily. IDK how the mods are though so you never know.
Really nice looking EDC though nonetheless.

Agreed. It's not a dedicated flashlight. Since I can use the light, talk on it, text on it, surf the net on it, and even shop or do banking on it (I don't think Capt. Kirk could do all that on his Communicator), it's like an electronic computerized communication SAK.
LOL! So, yeah, not a flashlight, but certainly in keeping with the MT philosophy.

Oh! OK. At first, I thought that was a daily load.
Although, that keychain looks crazy to me. I'm not much for busy keychains, myself. I find them noisy and hard to find things on quickly. Maybe that's just me.

Same old, same old. Compact plus Nitecore tube.

Ah, the Tube! Very nice flashlight.
I have one on my carkeys. Sadly no SAK in that setup, only the Key, a ResQme and the Tube. (It's kept this light on purpose).
For urban carry the tube is very convenient. You can just pop it on any microUSB charger and your good to go again.

Yup, that's why I carry it. Virtually weightless, great light power. The adjustable light output is another advantage.

On my person I always have a Nitecore tube, a Midnite Manager, a Vic Climber (subject to change) and a Samsung B2100. A Petzl headlamp and a Spirit are always in my vehicle ready to be grabbed. I use all the light sources regularly but I actually use the b2100 the most....tried and tested monster battery life (for a phone), thoroughly waterproof and really takes a beating...I just can't kill it. Also it's (mostly) rubber so can be gripped easily with your teeth or jammed into a notch or rock fissure which is a handy thing, all in all a great survival tool. Love the tube as well, my favourite use for it is when I'm sleeping in unfamiliar surroundings or camping out...I just leave it on the low setting all night so I can see what's going on if I wake up or need to take a leak. I can get about four nights use on one charge. Never really got on with headlamps though I use them regularly and always have one nearby or in my pack. The MM gets the least use as a light source but is a handy back-up and has the added bonus of the (oft-used) retractable pen, mini scissors and combo tool thingy. Was thinking of ditching it for an alox minichamp recently but having used most of the functions on it in the last week (especially the pen and light) I may have to keep it.

What is that flashlight if I may ask?
I looks a lot like a flashlight I've been eyeing for a while.
Is it a single AAA flashlight with a rear switch? If I'm correct it also came with a magnetic cap.
How do you like the light?

I think it's a Maratac. If so, it's a twist-on model. I have one in silver (the colour, not the metal).

Combination Torch & Blade...
=> COAST PolySteel 200
=> VICTORINOX 111mm Atlas
Torch: Three AAA batteries in a common cartridge; high, medium & low intensity; variable focus.
Knife: Blade, Saw, Pliers plus the usual suspects.
Both black, and about the same length. One can go way above this level in price and lumen and blade steel etc. But this combo serves me very well. If I put the torch lanyard around my neck, I can walk hands-free on unfamiliar ground.

It's a nifty little thing, but the LED is an estimated 2 to 3 lumen only maybe. It's good enough for me to move through the house in total darkness.

Thanks, the light is a Manker T01 II, a AA powered wonder with reach well beyond it's size (85mm).
I've voided it's warranty by opening it up. Very well machined, great heat sinking and the driver is potted for PCB drop protection. Amazing how far lights have come in the last 15 years.
Today's carry illustrates that with the Arc LSL-P, the Luxeon powered wonder from the early start of the lumens race.

so it works on AA? :o That's great, today most big lights use 18650 batteries :P which I don't have available locally, so having AA flashlights with decent output and good build quality is a big plus to me :salute:

Yes, really good regulation on multiple chemistries. Alky, NIMH, Lithium, Li-on. AA throwers are somewhat rare, and I prefer them to 18650 for pocket carry. Today I knew I would be looking down several long ducts and raceways for obstructions. I didn't need 600 hrs of runtime. Not that I've anything against 18650, I still respect commonly available cells. Size comparison pic.
Left is AA Zebralight H52, right is 18650 Zebra H600.

I posted this in another thread yesterday, but I liked this combo so much that it remained in my pocket today. The function/weight ratio of this little combination is very high. I’m becoming quite a fan of the discontinued Rogue.
It won’t replace the Compact+Microstream I typically carry when out and about, but it works well when I’m just rambling around the house.
The fact the combo cost me <$15 is pretty cool, too.

As usual, it will be my LD01.
While I've occasionally changed out my knife for a challenge or just to give another one a try, the fenix is the only light I've carried since I got it. I do have other lights at home for big jobs, but this guy is with me everyday. I don't even have a different multimode aaa light to carry if I wanted to.
It's got several things I like that more recent lights don't have all of: good mode spacing with a usable low (moonlight modes I find less than worthless); starts on my most used mode, medium; orange peel reflector that is fairly deep by aaa standards, so you get a decent combination of throw and flood (it seems like most new ones are all flood, and therefore more limited in use); no PWM; good runtime in all modes (no ridiculous 150 lumen for 12 battery depleting seconds solely for a marketing claim).
Just a good light

Thanks, I tie them up extremely tight, especially at the bend. Then boil them and sun dry. Makes for a really durable pocket clip, if done properly. My first attempts didn't retain their shape or function at all, before the tying and boiling learning curve :D They have kept me from marring up surfaces with metal pocket clips.

You wanna talk about breaking rules... someone gave me a little dollar store advertising give-away LED light a couple of months ago. I've had that in my coat pocket ever since, and I'm very happy with it. It's super light and as bright as I would want for an EDC. :dunno: Sometimes it's the simple things.

Thanks Aloha! Sheath was made by yours truly. The only proper leather crafting tools I have are a few needles for stitching. Everything else I use is repurposed or made by me. The spacing is fork tines. The stitching is the strands from paracord. The burnish tool I made from a dowel I sanded down to match profiles and loaded up with bees wax.

I wanted it to hold all the things I would need to start a fire and maintain the blade plus a light. I generally put the Olight in the pic or a Streamlight Microstream in the loop as they both have the double sided clip that allows for them to be mounted on a hat brim.

Being at home for pretty much a whole year now, I don't really need to carry things. Still, I like to feel I have something in my pockets, so I keep EDCing something. I went from the Executive + Nitecore Tube to the Midnite Manager + Nitecore Tube.
I discovered a Maglite Solitaire some time ago and tried using it. It works and it's more than enough for around the house needs. I saw some Youtube videos on upgrading it to LED and, until I do it, I'm going to use the smurf out of its light bulb.
So, in a pfrsantosshell nutshell, it's been my Midnite Manager + Maglite Solitaire.

The light that ended my search for lights: NITECORE TIP SE.
I don’t want a flame thrower that lets me see across a field. I need to see where I am walking.
I don’t want to blind an enemy. I would rather shoot them in the dark. Well, that’s not really true. I would rather stealthily elude capture and have a hot buttered rum back home safe and sound. Darkness, elusiveness and quiet soles always trump engagement with light.
I don’t need a strobe light for recreating Studio 54. My memories will do.
I don’t want to stick it to my car hood. I have a hand and a mouth.
I just want bright and dim without scrolling through a program.
I want to charge it without removing the battery.
I want it to have a red light when it needs a charge. I want it to indicate it’s charging.
I want it to turn green when it’s charged.
I don’t want it to take forever to charge.
I don’t want it to switch on in my pocket and burn my leg.
I want it not to wake up my wife in a motel room or cruise ship room, when I stagger to the head at 3am.
I want it not to break.
This light meets or exceeds all of my wants.
I love it.
I gave one to every family member.
Every human being on the planet needs one of these.
It allows me to keep my cellphone in a zip lock bag wrapped in two layers of aluminum foil until I need the NSA and Silicon Valley to know where I am, which I never do.
P.S.: The red SAK has my scissors. The Aqua SAK has my bottle opener with the tip filed thin enough to tighten the temples on my glasses. I like redundant tweezers and toothpicks. On trips, I hate splinters, loose strings and tooth aches with a passion. These two little SAKS mean I can survive at least awhile, if I get separated from my luggage.
-
Been really happy with this set up after much trial and error - SAK Manager and Nitecore TIKI. Supplemented with a Nite-Ize Doohickey and a peanut lighter.
Usually carry a larger SAK, knife or MT too, but with this set up I feel I can get through a lot of scenarios even if I don’t

The light that ended my search for lights: NITECORE TIP SE...
I gave one to every family member.
I have friends that also swear by that light.
I was fortunate to find my own ideal light some years ago: the Streamlight Microstream. I, too, gave one to every family member, and I always keep a spare just in case it is discontinued.
It does everything I need it to do and nothing I don’t.

The Nitecore keychain line (Tip, Tiki, Tini, etc) have become very popular for all the reasons you mention. The brightness they can put out definitely exceeds the old traditional of AAA or newer 10180. I ended up going to a similar light for my keychain as back-up to my normal light, for similar reasons. I still take a AAA flashlight with me traveling, because in an emergency where power is lost for possible extended time AAA batteries are so easy to scrounge.

I’m going to have to give the RovyVon a go Sos. I’ve had lots of Nitecores so suppose I’m biased towards them. I do like the lantern function a lot. The UV would be useful checking for bed bugs in a hotel but who gets to go to hotels anymore!
Nice scales on that rambler :like:
-
Pfrsantos,
The red one is a classic with scissor, blade and file.
The Aqua one is a classic SD rally I think. It’s a Pepcid advertising knife with blade, file and a bottle opener.
Got them at a thrift store for 50 cents for two. Together they are a poor man’s “manager.” 😀

The lantern function is one thing I did like about the Tiki. For me, I would have loved if the UV was swapped for red, so I could have have the HiCri Lantern plus red. The RovyVon does have both UV and red with an option to have the main light HiCri. RovyVon main beam is a little floodier with a brighter max lumen. But it also is a little bigger, doesn’t gitd and doesn’t have the lantern function.
Here is a comparison (A8x top, Tiki bottom)

:iagree:
But the nitecore Tip SE stays on the ring and I carry a thin line battery backup for phone and Tip. For long travel I add a solar charger. It is so light and flat it is dumb not to.
I carry an old 2A torch in my shaving kit and a backup battery.
Redundancy and spreading the redundancies among my person, my shoulder bag and my roller = peace of mind on the move!

Yeah, I know that's a lot of SAKs for an EDC, but depending on where I am (usually in the house, these days) they all get a workout. And the keyring provides an excellent backup bottle opener if I've not got one to hand.

Pfrsantos,
The red one is a classic with scissor, blade and file.
The Aqua one is a classic SD rally I think. It’s a Pepcid advertising knife with blade, file and a bottle opener.
Got them at a thrift store for 50 cents for two. Together they are a poor man’s “manager.” 😀
They look great, and both for 50ct?! Great deal!
 :tu:

Not exactly a lightweight combo, but I feel prepared for just about anything with this pair...

That is definitely a capable combo.

Nate j,
Solid companions.
Might you be willing to share the names of your gear. At the angle of the photo, an old fool like me cannot be sure. SAK looks like a Wenger, and the torch looks like one my son had, but I cannot recall the name.
Thx in advance.
-
Nate j,
Ah, I zoomed and..,
Felix PD 40 r
It can burn a hole in the night!
Still cannot make the model of SAK though.
-
ah ha!
Nate j,
After further analysis...
I make a Cyber Tool M.
Can you confirm?
-
Again, here's what you should have seen...
Big gun.
Small gun.
Derringer.
What model Derringer is it?
Also, mong the 3 SAKs, which would you say you draw the most often?

My favorite EDC light is the Streamlight ProTac 2AAA. The primary reason is that the clicky switch is very stiff, which allows me to carry it in my pocket with no worry of accidental activation. It has a long burn time, with high and low outputs plus strobe. I feed it 2x AAA Eneloops. The Streamlight Stylus Pro is a close runner up. Long run time, stiff clicky, super reliable.
My go-to SAK continues to be the Explorer Plus. I usually supplement it with a Manager to have the micro phillips on board.

Explorer Plus/Manager combo hunts. Hadn’t thought of that.
Also like the 2 inline aaas for long run. KISS.
What’s the caliber on the hole maker?

Surprised myself recently and have been enjoying carrying a right-angle light.

Very cool hand held street lamp! It probably even transmits 5G! I want one. How much, sir, and what brand?
-
Why thank you sir. That’s a funny description of it for sure! This is a Zebralight H600w mk II. Picked it up used for around $40, the newer mk IV’s go for $89 I think :o
Wowtac A2s is a decent value comparison at $30 :tu: (was a bit of a flashlight fanatic previously!)

You're correct on both counts; Fenix PD40R V2.0 and Cyber Tool M

I carry a Recruit along with an Olight i3t everyday, all day (even left it in my jammie pants overnight by mistake on occasion) everyday. Since I live in the country ($20 from anywhere), if I leave the house, I'm driving so the SD Classic rides along with an Olight i1r on my key ring.

After my regular M->Th retirement load out in Carhartt pockets stuffed with S-557 and Cyber Tool Large trouble shooters, Friday lite carry actually changes my center of gravity.
Here is my new Exec 74 with the Nitecore Tip SE and my old pal—the Gerber Shard.
Lights, grooming, fastening, cutting, prying, cap lifting.
Life covered.

Is the small one a mini champ?

Cheers! And no, it's a Signature Lite. It's served me well for over 20 years. :)

Here's my combo, an OHGAK and Olight. I seem to prefer an OD green setup for my pocket gear, when I can.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210301/3d287cb29c367c8acb3e574a51b5fe95.jpg)

Home brew , horizontal , nylon belt sheath.
Don't even realize it's there, and the regulation on the E16 is amazing. Great runtime for a mass production light.

You know, I feel bad for reviving two threads at this point, but some of these threads are just absolutely fantastic and I hate to see them languish like so, Here's the better part of what I have in my pockets at all times (plus a Swiss Champ).

i've been EDCing this combo a bunch: FX and Manker Striker mini
(https://i.imgur.com/k8ILMFM.jpeg)
it's quite the little thrower for a 14500 and also has some nice usable spill as well. some beamshots without the murder bezel :twak:

That Bezel scares me (and I have quite some scary knives) :pok:
-
That's a heck of a throw! What is the model number of that flashlight? I have this fantastic combo that I keep in my bag at all times (pretty much). Except for the 0301st; I keep that on my from time to time -- it's just super heavy!
-
That Bezel scares me (and I have quite some scary knives) :pok:
that's understandable because it is actually quite frightening. the parts that stick out are super sharp on the sides like a knife. Hard to tell from the picture but it's sharpened on the side.
Luckily it is reversible and removable. Depending on where I'm going I usually remove it because I can't help but think law-enforcement would have some serious questions about someone carrying it with the bezel "murder side pointing out."

it really is quite the little thrower for its size. I like it so much I think I'm going to get the larger one that uses a 18650 battery the larger one is just called the Maker Struker and the smaller one (pictured) is called the Manker Striker mini
not sure of the model number but I got it from CountyComm
