I know it's only February but...
Are we looking at doing a meet this year, and if so,when?
-
-
Ok,so Dave is bringing popcorn :D
-
Tony will bring wood and his bucket of axes. Who will bring the fire extinguisher?

As long as Taxidad doesn't set the breakfast alight again :ahhh

Hell yes I'm up for it, some time when it's moderately warm but not too hot and most importantly it's not raining.
Bonus points if my route there isn't flooded and I manage to arrive on time.
May? September? Both?
-
I'd like to come along, if I can get away for a weekend. Any ideas where it'll be - still near Bicester?
-
Tony has volunteered to sort out our usual haunt near Bicester, but if anyone else has ideas,we're open to hearing them :pok:
As to dates,I'd opt for sometime when we've got a fighting chance of warm and dry.
Here's a suggestion: We let this run til,say the 20th?,see if we get any other offers on venues, then we look at dates?
-
I'm up for this in theory, but I've got to keep in mind that I've moved about 2 hours even further North.
-
So,that's like, next door to Santa claus?
-
Another EPIC UK MTo event. I cannot wait to hear and see what takes place.
-

Well if you fancy tracking down a venue a bit further North... :pok:
In theory, it should be a bit easier for me to get time off this year, so long as it doesn't clash with any breaks my boss has planned
-
So,that's like, next door to Santa claus?
I was wondering who that jolly chap next door might be.
-
It's very inconsiderate of you to move even further away Gareth
Does anyone live in the Midlands? I feel sure there must be somewhere round there that would be convenient for people. Or if you wanted to come to Norfolk then I know someone with a campsite we can use.
That said Tony's haunt is rather good... and now I've been there twice I might even remember how to get there! *And*, assuming I manage to get through enough of the things I have planned, I shouldn't need to pitch a tent in the rain this year :)
-
Tony will bring wood and his bucket of axes. Who will bring the fire extinguisher?
Don't forget the rust, lots of rust

One day ill make this trip :salute:
-
I'd like to make it myself this year as long as there are no chickens to be seen :ahhh & the only time I want to see any lard is when my bacon & eggs are frying in it.
-
I'm sure we can recycle some on it
-
Subscribed, and munching popcorn :)
-
Well,it's the 20th today, and we've had no other offers on venue.
Are we collectively agreed on Bicester again?
-
Any more offers?

We have a chair saved for you Paul by the fire :salute:

Ok, here's my submission. I will say don't make too many plans around me, it is a long drive and I can't say I'll be able to make it at all. I'll perhaps look at other ways of making it down other than driving.
-
Gareth, PM sent :)
-
More than happy to collect from stations, give lifts from convenient locations etc etc.
-
I'm tempted to walk, should take me around 4 and half hours as it's just over 13.5 miles away :D
Smurf, I'll drive!
-
:twak:
It will take me at least that long to drive, and I'm not even close to being the furthest away!
-

you need Kirky as your map reader ! .......NOT :ahhh
-
A few years ago some rather clever satellites with fancy clocks got fired in to space. I like to use them instead of Kirky ;)
The motorway being flooded last year didn't help, and the diversion being flooded also didn't help.
-
I have a provisional plan of hooking up with Al on the way down. That way I'm not driving all the 9 hours by myself. Details to be worked out but it makes it a far more attractive proposition. :)
-
I'm not promising anything, but if:
- I Have enough money
- I Have enough time
- You guys want me there ;)
I might be inclined to swim my way across the pond and join you people ;)
-
That would be excellent mate! I'm sure we could work out spare camping kit if needed and some kind of pick up from whichever beach you wash up on. :D
-
:twak:

I'll do a map with all the kebab shops on as well :)
-
I should have a spare tent that will be available.
The more the merrier bmot, of course we want you!
Assuming I can come, I'll be driving by Peterborough and Huntingdon and could go via Stevenage which are on the ECML.

I'll probably get the train down to Milton Keynes and ride across, but it really depends on how much stuff we're expected to bring with us. What's 'normal'? Just camping gear or do we bring our collections or other entertainment to show/share?

People do tend to bring all their gear with them, but that's only 'cos we like to show off. ;) Just yourself and some camping gear is actually all you need. As I said to bmot, I've got enough camping gear for anyone to borrow whatever you need anyway (though I might have to be a touch frugal if I'm car sharing with 50ft)

Gareth was faster than me ::)
I will bring the fire and a few pots/pans so you won't need to carry them, I guess you just need a tent an sleeping bag and a few toys to play with
-
I'm sure if someone wanted anything we could come up with a 'spare' ?
if travel is hard carrying 'tent' or 'sleeping bag' I'm positive someone could bring one if we knew in advance.
hell some people have turned up with out footwear or coat before now !!! (no names , what happens at the meet stays at the meet)
I'm willing to pick up from stations, airports or deserted beaches within reason if I can (PM me details and we can try to arrange something)
also, just a suggestion, could we all donate towards a 'cheep' second hand large tent , suitable for a club house. pretty sure 'we' could get one at a bootfair (and by 'we' I mean our resident bootfair rust hunter ;) )
if a few of us regulars bung in a fiver it would mount up. then it would save having to borrow from Mark like we did last year (thanks again Mark :salute:) just a matter of Tony storing it then ;)
-
Having the big tent was definitely a boon, especially given the heavy rain on the Friday night. I'd happy chip in for getting something specifically for the meets. :)

Thanks Smashie, that's very kind of you. If I'm not bringing the bike I'll be in the car anyway so unlikely to need it, but I'll let you know if I need a lift. :tu:
I'm wondering about putting together a minimalist modding toolkit for a bit of outdoor SAK surgery.
Happy to chip in for a tent if something suitable turns up.
-
A modding toolkit is a great idea! :tu:
-
If I have a bit of notice I can probably borrow a big gazebo-thing. Like half way between a tent and a miniature marquee.
My parents have a smaller one and I know someone with a couple of bigger ones.
They're not even that expensive to buy new:
http://www.norwichcamping.co.uk/products/4-x-4m-budget-party-tent/
-
An inclosed marquee/gazebo would be the dogs danglies IMO.
-
Hello peeps :D Not been around here much lately as I've been busy with other stuff, and Sparky Bloke sent me a PM to :pok: me for dates and stuff.
Put me down for whenever it's not pissing down :P It's too far out for any specific yes/no on any dates, but I'll do my best to work around whatever the consensus date is  I've got to help Gareth get there and back in one piece. :D Totally agree on Michael's comment, that between us we'll have a spare everything, or several spares ;) so just post if you need something.
Cheers
-
Thanks Al :salute:
:pok: Any more input guys?

That's been put in the work diary before anyone else books it off.
No doubt my boss's wife will suddenly decide she actually wanted to go away then as she's done all the other times I've booked holiday off recently, but fingers crossed!

Can she cook? bring her along :tu:

Is it too early to know who’s going to make it on the Friday and ETA?
I’m planning on getting there at 10am (ish) setting up my tent and starting the fire for coffee (http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/bushcraft.gif) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/bushcraft.gif.html)

 I haven't had much use out of it and forgot all about it until Tony mentioned air rifles. It's been in a drawer for years. As far as I remember it jammed a lot when i first got it in a trade on the BCUK forum, then I got the hang of it. Glad I've remembered it now though - I might take some pics of it.
All set for tomorrow?

And I think I've got a GITD climber somewhere
You will never find it, it's hidden by piles of rusty metal
But all he has to do is turn the light off ;)

A list of Stuff that we would like to play with
Gareth can you bring your new Condor Pack Golok Please?
Oops, missed this. :-[ Yes, I'll bring it with me. It'll be interesting to compare it to "Lofty" and Al's Chris Cane Chopper. :tu:
-
+1 on the MP600. I've got a MP400/450 but would like to see a larger one to compare.
If anyone's got a SOG of some description that'd be great to see too. Probably too much to ask for a Switchplier 2.0 though.
I'm not sure I've got anything much that people will want to see, but was going to bring some gear for some SAK modding (brass rod, some assorted parts, tools and the like). Will there be any 13 amp sockets available for battery charging?

-
I can certainly bring along a MP600 or two.

:tu:
It'd only be for a drill - I don't think I'd need it for anything else.
-

:tu:
-
If it's only for charging a drill I can always bring along an inverter, just leave a car ticking over for a bit. Might see if I can wangle bringing along a spare battery if I remember.
Does anyone have a first gen Switchplier? And do you still have the Recoil Gareth?
Oh, and do we want any pallet wood this year? We've got stacks and stacks of them in the yard at the moment.
Would there be any interest in me bring some assorted cable to have a go chomping through?
-
Tom, I have an original Switchplier :tu:

I think I've got logs sorted  but pallet wood for kindling will be good :tu:
-
Yup, still have the Recoil. I'll make sure to bring it.
-
H could you bring one of those babboons you were talking about?
-
Er, no. I'll see if I can find a nice cuddly pocket marmoset for you instead.

You don't put them in a vice too do you Joseph Mengel?

Reminder for Gareth: Cold Steel Brave Heart :pok: :D

And it would be nice to meet you all :salute:
Maybe just for the day though.

I will bring a vegetarian lard substitute. Slard (soya lard), and I don't have a speedo so it'll have to be y-fronts.
-
I will be able to bring a generator if anyone is interested in being able to charge stuff easily?
-
Very kind of you Smashie but I don't think I'll need to charge anything now.
-
Oh yeah: only 4 weeks to go. :tu:
-
Wellies at the ready :tu:

Gents, can we make sure that both the old and new versions of the Switchplier make it to the meet-up?

Can i admit that i now have the horrific image of Al in wellies, hat and Speedos running round my head? :ahhh

I'll bring the old version so long as it doesn't get "tested" as it will just break instantly ::) I'm looking forward to seeing the new version, and I'm very interested to know if they are going to cover the warranty on the old one with the new one before I start carrying it ;)

I'll bring the Switchplier 2, but only if ALL of you promise to cover your modesty.

I'm bringing a Scotsman :D
What did you mean Chris? Booze, food, tools, tent? Yes to all of those :P
-
I suppose I should be asking what do I NEED to bring (other than Gareth)?
Chris Caine survival tool (for Condor comparison)
Brass rod for Sparky Bloke
Original Switchplier
Any other requests?

And no mankini? Phew.
I meant tools - I couldn't care less what you eat or drink or where you sleep, as long as you don't pinch any of mine ;) - but I wondered what shiny things people were bringing.
There seems little point in me bringing ALL my SAKs (you know what a Climber is, right?) but I though I'd bung some of the mods and some nice alox in the bag, as well as the Switch Plier 2 and some hacked LMs. Will bring along my Enzo PK70 and Eden 106 (to compare to Kirky's SRM710), and a very nice bike light too.
-
And has anyone got a Spyderco Pingo? Would love to try one out (or any other Spyderco, for that matter) if someone is bringing one along.
-
Yeah, I wouldn't bring really common stuff like a standard Climber (unless someone asks to see one), but mods, uncommon colours, torches or anything else you think folks might be interested in really. :)
-
I'll be bringing the Whiskey, as well as my rather nice Syph007 custom Troubleshooter, which people won't have seen before.
Plus a fair number of torches.
I have a Spyderco Phoenix to bring along.
What time are we allowed on site, on the Friday?
-
I can bring my Spydie Persistance and Dragonfly.
Al wanted to see my Higonokami,si I'll bring that, and hopefully a second one that I've got on its way. SRM710 to compare to Chris's one.
Are we shooting again this year? Think I can bring a couple of pistols
Gareth, any chance you could bring that RR fixed blade?
-
Peter I will be getting there at 10am Fri (all going well)
ETA’s Guys? :pok:

Early evening on Friday for me, I reckon.

I think we are. If so then I'll pack my new pistol as well if you want to have a look. :)

Yes we still have permission for air guns so bring whatever you like again :salute:
(who organized the targets etc last time?)
Getting there Guys :ahhh :D

I'll grab some targets and some co2 on Thursday

I'm sure someone said they had a catcher. I'll try and bring that wooden board again, but I've got to be able to fit it in the back of Al's car this time.

I should be arriving early tomorrow evening. There's a slight chance I won't be able to make it as my wife may have to go away for the weekend and I'll be looking after the boy. I'd bring him with me but I don't really think that playing with guns, knives and open fires would be entirely appropriate for an inquisitive 2-year old.

We have paracord you can tie him to something heavy (don't think he will move a bucket of axes)

Duct tape badges ahoy
-
Like this?
-
:D :D
-
The boy's not coming, so no need for duct tape. I will only be able to stay for the Friday night now, need to get back home by lunchtime on Saturday. Still planning on arriving about 6-ish tomorrow though.
-
I should be there a few seconds before Gareth, depending how fast he's pushing the car
What's the score with firewood Tony? Do you know if the site has generously dumped another load of stuff for us to dispose of?
-
I'm going in to work first thing because I've got to see someone about 7:30, then I should be have left by 9-ish. I've got some chores to do round here, but will be aiming for mid-afternoon.
See you for Saturday lunch and the pouring rain then ;)
-
 Tom's aiming for mid afternoon again
Gareth should be arriving at my house around then, and we've got to transfer the stuff between the cars and given him chance to stretch his legs for a bit. Once we've set off, I'd expect it to take us about 2.1/2 to 3 hours depending on roadworks and traffic.
We'll make sure the kettle's on for when you get there Tom :tu: :D

Was great fun - nice to meet the guys (sparky415, 50ft trad, Gareth, tofty, smashie, cupboard and Kirky) and always good to get to camp out. Lots of nice toys to play with too, I'm sure I didn't get the time to see everything which was a shame.
Big thanks to everyone, especially Sparky for arranging the site and bringing the tea and fire pit. :tu:
-
This looks like a great site for a meet up. Weather also looks terrific. Great pics.

I was only there for a few hours but in that time we had a shooting competition - well done 50ft who was kinda shooting blind but won, I saw some great Syph and Hiraethus mods, some great modding from the attendees (including a sister for my Woodsman from Gareth) some beautiful hand-made knives, and most importantly, got to meet some excellent people.
Thanks Tofty for the MOT bits and pieces (the spanner is on my key ring, the big belt one is now my tactical coaster in my office, my daughter has nabbed the chip, and the dangler is being used as a... well, a dangler.
Cheers for having me and see you next year!

Back home, sun burned to hell and knackered.
Good to see the guys again and to meet the new chaps.
The result of the shooting may have been a bit different from what you remember Luke.

A pretty impressive comeback from last years result where I came last. I'm more convinced than ever that you couldn't hit a barn from the inside with that rifle, sorry Peter.
In a case of what could possibly go wrong?

This on the fire at 0330 seemed like a good idea at the time. I gave up waiting for it to set fire to the ground at 0430 and 50ft, being the sensible one stayed up and made sure that didn't happen. 0800 it looked like this

Back home and totally knackered after only getting less than 2 hours sleep wrapped in a non-waterproof poncho on the ground in the rain. Gareth has set off on the rest of his jaunt way way North. Thanks for a great weekend fellers. Will check back in later when I've had some kip.

Thanks Guys :salute: it was a really great weekend! :D

Right, now the boy's in bed I've had a chance to catch up with thoughts about the meet.
As said, great to meet the guys - and sorry I missed you magentus. Fantastic to get chance to get my hands on so many cool toys - Surge*, Pulse, Flair, Mini, PST, PST II, MP600, MP426 (50ft's knifeless MP400), PUG (Kirky's knifeless Wave), lots of lovely folders (too many to remember but Smashie's Fantoni, Sparky's refurbed brass and stag car boot find, some Liong Mah models and a few different Spydercos spring to mind), a pair of Syph customs (91mm and 93mm), lots of torches, an air pistol (I didn't really have time to do much shooting). Thanks to Tofty and Smashie for their very generous gifts too.
And always great to talk smurf about multis with others. :drink: :D
* I'd asked someone to bring a Surge as I've been hankering after one for a while. I had a little accident in a gear shop on the way down and brought my own. :D
-
Just like being in the virtual version. Tons of interesting stuff, derailments and bullsmurf :D
Oh and there's fire and beer too :woohoo:

If I could make just one pilgrimage across the pond to a MTO meet up or to Vic Factory I'd easily choose a MTO meet up with you guys :tu:
Another great turn out and event. Thanks all for sharing the pics with us.

Fantastic shots Tom. :tu: Tony's throwing target was a big success IMO. I certainly spent enough time at it to put a little strain on my arm muscles. Though I suspect it was lobbing that Fubar that finished me off. :D

It was the small black Schrade I was looking at. Seems a bargain at £8.
