Title: Alox Woodsman
Post by: ioti on May 01, 2019, 12:09:41 AM
Hello Knights,

Today I came across an red Alox 93 mm SAK that had a blade and a saw at a local shop. Back home an internet search revealed that it is an Alox Woodsman.

Now I am not a collector, I only buy things I will use. The price is slightly higher then a Farmer, which I think is much more useful and is on my wish list. So practically I shouldn't buy the woodsman, but I am aware that it is a rare thing and I will very likely not encounter another one. Maybe buying it, keeping it unused and selling at a later point may make sense. I need advise from SAK folks.

Cheers

Welcome!  8)

If it was brand new, I'd say that you can't really lose if you buy it.
Brand new discontinued alox doesn't usually deprecate in value, unless, of course, you use it!

Buy it and think about what to do with it later!

Buy!

Alox knives are great value keepers.

Also, less tools doesn't always mean cheaper.

He hee, thanks guys. I will buy it when I have some money to spare. It has been sitting in that shelf for years, I don't think it will be sold anytime soon. One thing is when I held it in my hand, it left a "meh" impression on me. Don't know, it may be the smurfty attitude of the seller that influenced me.

Brick and mortar shopkeepers most likely have a grumpy attitude because a lot of shameless so-and-sos try stuff out in their shop, then go home and order it on Amazon to save themselves a measly $5.
I'm not saying I don't order things off Amazon but I have noticed a lot of reviews in which people seem to think there is nothing wrong with trying stuff out, wasting a shopkeepers time, opening boxes and leaving fingerprints on goods, as if the shop exists only to help you decide with your online shopping decisions.
Neither am I suggesting for a moment that you are guilty of this - just something to bear in mind when trying and not buying, and wondering why the shop keeper looks miffed. If you can support your local shops you should, otherwise they won't be there for long.

Thunderpants yeah, brick and mortar  shops around here are mostly dead or replaced by big chains. However where I am living (Mediterranean coast) people are very warm and cheerful and shopkeepers are usually very attentive. So when one acts grumpy that doesn't leave a good impression. It was as if he doesn't want to sell.

Fuzzbucket I could buy it on your behalf and send it to you if the shipping wouldn't cost a lot really.

That's very kind of you, but I'm about (to try and) downsize at the moment.  I've got a horrible feeling you're about to be inundated with requests now though.
