Title: HydroFlask water bottles,,
Post by: MadPlumbarian on April 24, 2013, 09:47:46 PM
Well ive had a Hydroflask since 2010, and since then i haven't used anything but! i think there the best.. there insulated with a vacuum seal, so there not big, best of all they have a lifetime warranty! 24hrs cold and 12hrs hot. when i first bought one they didn't have anything large, i bought there 21oz, great bottle, not to small not to large, only downer is you have to use "there caps" but not to bad. then they came out with there next two large bottles, a 40oz, and 64oz(the growler) too big for me, but the 40, NICE!!!! fill it and forget it! when i first got there 40oz large mouth nothing besides the top that it came with would fit on it, and in the middle of the night when you wake up with one eye open to grab a sip to wet your lips, large mouth isn't a good thing! need i say more, lol trust me!!!! i learned the hard way. but they recently changed them to fit other tops, i ordered two along with my order, as you can see in the pic, the purple and metal, but, its also the same as the Nalgene! i tried the lid off of mine and vise verse, they fit. so that means the capcap will fit! well at least should  im not promising.... lets see what else, for every bottle you buy they give a 5% cash back to a volunteer-based org of your choose, i chose American cancer society, since my grandfather, and my wife's father both died due to it. so far the only downer of the bottles is trying to find a holder/case/bag to fit it, i have one to hold my Nalgene, and both will fit in it, but you cant close it, there both to tall, so im still on the lookout to find something that will hold a 11" tall bottle, besides that there great, hands down the best bottle Ive come across.. :tu: JR

Here's a pic, the first ones i got are the silver and black smaller ones, 21oz the black is the same as the other silver, but i painted it with truck bed liner, came out nice. the cap is diff, because they also have a filtering setup, i found another source that sells the setup without the filter.. the blue one is my second order, and is when it first came out(so the cap is diff) and lastly the two large silver and purple are the two new ones i just got, and i ordered sip caps, they did say that there coming out a new cap for the large ones later spring or early summer!

Oh yeah, before i forget, on the large mouth bottles i did come up with a unique idea. for ice, if you drink something besides water, such as ice-tea, and you don't like it when it melts and dilutes the flavor, Rx bottles! wash them out, fill with whatever your drinking, grant it, it can be a pain to thaw to get it out of the bottle, but since its large it takes a while to melt, and when it does, it doesn't change the flavor of the drink! for the other smaller mouth ones, toss two of the other pic in, fill them up with whatever your drinking and do the same!

Useful info :tu:

I love the Capcap - use it on my nalgene. Sadly it diesn't fit on their 500ml bottles. Do you happen to know what the smallest Hydro flask that they work with is?

They have a 18oz/532ml/1.125pt wide mouth bottle that comes with the flip lid, that should fit the capcap,
heres the link if you want to look at it. JR

I may have to look into those.  Usually I use disposable bottles when I buy Perrier or Gatorade, but I often think that a straight bottle would be nice too.  I have a Kleen Kanteen but it's not insulated.

Definitely something to look into! there really great, don't leave any funky taste! might be a little pricy at first, since your up north, but worth it in the long run! JR

I've just ordered a 64 oz. Hydroflask because it will solve a few different problems for me.

I spend a good portion of my work days sriving my car, so a good water bottle with one hand operation is a must, but most water bottles that offer one handed operation either have very low flow, leak when tipped or wont fit into the cup holder.  To solve this problem I went back to using one of my Camelbak Podium chill insulated bicycle water bottles.  With one squeeze it dispenses a good sized mouth full of water,it doesn't drip water onto my tie, it fits in the cup holder and it keeps my water cool. But it does not hold nearly enough water to last through the day.  The 64 oz Hydroflask will keep plenty of water cold and allow me to refill my Podiuum.

I make much of the beer that I drink and I like to take it on my boat with me.  To get away from the drudgery of cleaning bottles my beer is conditioned and stored in a 5-gallon keg.  Its a great way to keep my beer, but it isn't very portable.  Enter the Hydroflask.  It will allow me to take my beer on my pontoon boat and keep it cold on the hottest days.

We are blessed with a lot of craft breweries here in West Michigan and I try to visit them all.  The most economical way to bring some of their brew home with me is to purchase growler (64 oz glass jug) filled with the brew of my choice.  Growlers are not insulated, so the beer is usually warm by the time I get home.  The 64 oz Hydroflask will hold the same amount of brew and keep it cold for hours.  Most of the brew pubs are happy to fill your container instead of making you purchase one of theirs, so the cost is even more reasonable.

Good choice! I love my Hydroflasks, for me the 40oz works perfect, basically a fill in the morning and maybe a top off mid day, the 64oz is just too big for me. A tip for you, if you like your drinks cold like I do, icecubes suck! The larger the better. I drink ice tea, and like any drink if you put ice in, it dilutes it as it melts. But since the Hydroflask has such a large opening find something you can form a ice block and pour whatever your drinking and make your own, this way when it melts it keeps the same taste! I ended up using a large pill container I got from the Rx, only thing is you have to run it under hot water to get it to fall out.. JR

I managed to get a Klean Kanteen cheaper than the Hydroflask over here - was open to both but the price won out!

I got the 20oz insulated one and put a Capcap on it, which is known to have a tiny leakage problem as a combo. That aside, it's my perfect EDC water set up so I got a 52mm ID, 4mm width nitrile O-ring and it solved the problem 100%.

Here it is, just peeking out from below the cap:

Great info!  :tu:
I have to get me one of those bottles.
I too, usually use old soda or mineral water bottles as water bottles at work, in the car etc,  wich is not ideal. Especially during summer when the water becomes warm and tastes like plastic after a relatively short time in the sun.
