Hey folks, just going through used SAKs in the collection, looking at stamps and stuff. Thought I'd start a thread about Hoffritz-stamped SAK's. You guys should post your Hoffritz SAKs too...
Here we have a Super Tinker and Climber '61-'68 best I can tell, and also a Tinker Small which I place 68-74.
I find the different stamps interesting.
:salute:

Ain't it crazy how small the stamp is on that TInker Small (above, far right)?

I just won this one on the bay (sellers pic). It will be my first Hoffritz.

That's and awesome exec.
Once they got to the late 80's/90's it seems they stopped stamping the tangs. They sold out to Lifetime Hoan in '95, and as far as I know, no more Hoffritz SAKs after that date. :salute:

Salesman showed up today and it's great! I love my Super Tinker but the 84mm size and lack of the key ring make the Salesman that much more pocket friendly.
Anyone know the best way to straighten that small blade? Also, all the tools are super stiff. On MTs I usually do a Dawn bath and a PB Blaster soak but I doubt that would be great for the scales. Any recommendations on the best way to clean and free up the tools?

Hobie on YouTube has a blade straightening video that's pretty good. Exercise caution ⚠ for sure, tips break off pretty easily if you're not super careful, and even then they still do.
Do a quick search on the Swiss Army Knights Forum. And you'll find plenty of information regarding cleaning restoring and oiling

Not a sak, but I do remember posting something about this years and years ago, and some clown pm'ed me wanting to buy it. I got this about 30 years ago in one of their new York City stores, before there were any bans against them, and I don't even know if they have any Manhattan stores anymore, 1 was in Penn station, the other was Rockefeller center.. Hoffritz branded butterfly knife(some jerk in college tried to sharpen it, hence the scratches, other then that it has held up perfectly, and opens closes smoothly like a Bruce Lee Kung Fu one)

Just out of curiosity can it be dated by the stamp? Knife has fluted corkscrew, scissor screw, hole-less awl and no hook, would love to know a rough date :tu:
-
By the looks of it I'd say early 80's, one way to tell if it's free 80 is if the cross inlay is stainless steel or nickel silver. If it's got a patina it'll be the older nickel silver. Scissor and reamer pics please?
-
No clue on the inlay as i have made a start at cleaning and polishing the front scale ::)

Love the old Champions, I've never been a big fan of the Victorinox pliers, I kind of feel like they had too much bulk for the usefulness of the tool.
I've noticed that the older round mini screwdrivers will often fit a lot looser in the corkscrews. It seems like the newer version fits more snuggly and most corkscrews, especially Wenger corkscrews. But up do understand wanting to put the older version in there for historical accuracy sake.
I think if you paid less than $50 for it, then you got a great deal.

I was going to ask for pictures from the top, as I suspect it may have a 'thin' center liner. I did think that it should have the 'gray' spring and would likely be from c. '78 if it didn't.
------
Now there's another Hoffritz addict in the ranks! >:D
-
The restored was the polishing of the scales. He did a great job on it. Looks great. I was thinking of the Hoffritz SwissChamp but went with the Fisherman in the end. Had the SwissChamp had Hoffritz tang stamp I would have gone with it. Looking forward to seeing more of your Hoffritz’s. :like: :tu:

:iagree: :tu: That's why I was still looking at it! I was being too cheap and hoping for a price drop. I'll just have to try harder on the next one!
Could you post a pic of the top of the knife? I was really curious about the liner types.

One of the main reasons I had to start posting...to photograph/document/organize my collection! Even saving auction pics and data gets to be a chore.

The above is why it's often hard to date Hoffritz knives...they're often getting parts discontinued from main line production. I have one of these that I believe is earlier, but has the numbered scaler and two thin/full spacers/liners, unlike this one with the thick/thin protocol.
-
Here is a photo of the top...if its not...post a photo of what you want to see and then I can get you one! :tu:

Thanks much! :salute: That's perfect, Ray! Helps confirm that mine (Hoffirtz Fish) are both probably just after yours and might be c. '79 and c. '80 for the one w/o fish...and that the non-Hoffritz SS inlay Fish with the black scissor spring should be say c.'76 +/- a year.
I've been trying to find the earliest date for the Hoffritz SS inlay as well as the related Camping variations since they can be found together.

Forgot I had this Hoffritz Fish when I pulled out those others. :-[ This is the oldest complete Hoffritz I own. NS tweezers and still a lot of original Hoffritz extra polish, but this one has a 'broken back' or split liners, but everything still has decent snap. Good enough for my shelf queen status as is. Might fix it one day unless I find a better one first.

Ok, quick question! Does anyone have a Alox Hoffritz??? I haven’t seen one now that I’m thinking about it. Did they ever make one? Just wondering! :dunno:
And if you have one, can you post a photo?
Not me! One more thing to look out for! I may have seen one for auction a while back...can't say for certain though. :dunno:

I was hoping you would chime in
Thanks. I am thinking they didn’t - if they had you would have one I thought!

 :D That would be a safe guess...but I'm relatively new to Alox knives. All of mine are users and I don't really want to collect them. There are several that have my interest, but I figure I can always do that later.

I used to have an alox Hoffritz Popular but ended up selling it. I've never seen a 93mm ritz...
