Title: The watch collector challenge.
Post by: Chako on June 13, 2019, 07:30:42 AM
Day 1.

I think it is time. I plan on wearing a different watch every day until I run out of them. Not sure how this will go...but it will give me incentive to wear them all. I have noticed I tend to gravitate towards those I like more. As for simplicity. I will go about this logically. I will open a case, and grab them one by one in order.

Going to start this off with a vintage DeJuno watch bought in the late 80s from Sears if memory serves me right. I was attracted to the train motive. However, I haven't worn this time piece much because the hands are very hard to see. On the plus side, a super comfortable watch to wear, and the leather weave patterned bracelet is awesome as it stretches a little to accommodate large wrists. Still stuck on the last hole...but I do not notice it as much on this one.

Yes, it is 1:31 am as I write this...got a bit of insomnia brewing.

I’d run out after 12, but only 6 of those are running, (well would be since I’d have to wind them and two are solar) the rest are all battery and dead.. I take that back, one of the 6 is a battery and running..

Already started. I wore the watch today to work...so comfortable that I forgot I even had it on until I needed the time.

Day 2.

I already broke my protocol by wearing the newest addition. I just knew I wouldn't be able to go without wearing the new watch for several months. Today I wore an Invicta limited edition Mickey Mouse watch. The back of the watch states that it is one of 3000. I myself am a fan of Mickey Mouse, and the watch sure is a good looker. This Mickey diver has screw down crown and pushers, and is rated for 200m. I do not have any negatives on this watch other than there is no date complication. The steel bracelet was actually a little large for my wrist out of the box. I had to move the adjustment pin inwards two spots. When a bracelet is too large for me...that is always a great thing.

Here is a photo taken from my classroom. No students today as it was a PD Day.

And one of my supper after work, at a place called Bucci's in Echo Bay Ontario Canada. Great place with great food.

Day 3.

Got to love Casio. I think they make some of the best quality watches that hit way above their price point. Here is one I wore today. Another thing about Casio...their standard bracelet is longer than most other manufacturers out there. This means I can usually get away with using the third or second last hole. People with big wrists salute you Casio.

This model is AE-1000W. The reason why I bought this...I like the bronze/gold highlights. It has a neat world time illustrating world feature that gets the Geographer in me feeling happy. I do not much care for the dual time feature on this model however. The wee little hands are hard to distinguish from the quadrant markings. Another let down...when using the stop watch, it would have been nice to have that somewhat useless dual time display showing some sort of graphics/motion. I also should mention that the built in light is a brownish/yellow single LED at the 7 or 8 o'clock position. Much like the two G-shocks I have, it doesn't do that great of a job illuminating the display. Overall, I can't complain about this watch. The price is a steal for something that is durable, accurate, and functional. Bonus marks for it being so darn light on the wrist.

I had to visit Walmart today.

Day 4,

Today, I wore a Casio WV-M60 Wave Ceptor Multi-band 5. A nice little watch that sets its own time for accuracy. Like many Casio watches, very generous when it comes to watchband length. I can get away with using the 4th last hole on this watch. Only 5 bar water resistant however. Best to keep this one out of water.

Today, I went on a small road trip to the midpoint of the Trans Canada Highway. The watch made a good road trip companion.

Day 5.

Today, I went super cheap, and a bit weird. I wore a lighter watch today. This one I saw at a local  pawn shop for around 4 bucks. I was attracted to the novelty of having a built in lighter. The watch is super cheap. So cheap in fact that when you pull the crown out, the hands have that cheap as can be shake. That shake hits them when you have set your time and try to push the crown back in. The sub dials are fake, which goes against my creed of never having fake sub dials just for looks. I made an exception to this one due to the lighter function. The wrist band is cheap as well...and feels like vinyl. The sole redeeming factor of this watch, there is a large lever on the side that ignites the lighter, and you get flame. What can I say, small things do amuse me.  :D

The watch and the mode of transportation for the day.

Day 6.

Here is a watch I have owned since 89/90 if memory serves me correctly. I was still in High School and when I first laid eyes on this watch, I just had to have it. What drew my attention to this one was the novel thermometer feature. Considering I bought this watch new and was stored away for decades with a dead battery, I am very lucky to not have the battery damage this one. Still works, and the bracelet is still good, even after all of these years. There is a scratch on the crystal, and I still remember when that happened at school. This watch has so many great memories for me...that I could never see myself throw it away, even if it stopped working.

I did not get the chance to eat breakfast, and thus ended up with this delicious chicken cesar salad at work. It was a great breakfast.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190618_090725small_zpss8kaxte4.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190618_090725small_zpss8kaxte4.jpg.html)

The athletic department had a rummage sell of old spirit wear. They had these nice hats with football on the back for a few dollars.

in case you were wondering, the model is a Casio 815 TS-100.  :salute:

Day 7.

Today, I wore a Timex Men's TW4B02500 Expedition Grid Shock watch. Back in 2009, I wanted an ABC watch and couldn't decide on the Casio Pathfinder PAW 1500-3GB or a Timex Expedition WS4. I got both of them. The Timex Grid Shock is based on the older WS4 minus the ABC features that made the WS4 such a neat and unique watch. I got this watch because it reminded me of the WS4, that and I do like a large watch. This watch is smaller than the WS4, even though it is still quite a large watch. Built in vibration alarm is a cool feature. The biggest issue with this watch, and one that I forgot until I wore it today, is that the bracelet is formed with a bend, and my wrist is a little wider than the bend on the bracelet. Go figure. This makes the watch a bit uncomfortable over time, especially as the tight spot is on both sides of the wrist towards the bottom of the watch. After a while, my wrist feels like it is constantly being squeezed in a vice. It is a shame, as I really do like the style of this watch. You can see what I mean if you look at the photos.

Got to work a bit earlier than I usually do. Here I am in my classroom. I did do some report card comments...so the time was well spent. See how tight the watch fits me side to side. The bracelet is long enough that I can easily get to the second last hole. At that setting, I can still fit a finger under between the wrist and the bracelet. The formed bracelet bend on each side of the watch is tight.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190619_074427small_zpsvh7k4zge.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190619_074427small_zpsvh7k4zge.jpg.html)

After work, I picked up the better half and we ate at Noel's Place in Rankin Reserve. This place is a gem, and the food is excellent to. The owner is good friends with the Timber Kings (BC log builders/chainsaw carvers/tv show), and decked out the restaurant with a lot of high quality wood carvings from them. Here is a grizzly standing guard beside the main entrance to the restaurant. By the way, If you are ever in Sault Ste Marie Ontario, a visit here for their Indian Tacos is an easy recommendation.

Day 8.

Some watches are just different...and I mean that in a good way. This Skmei Drum Watch fascinates me as it is an auditory watch to wear. Every minute, the watch quietly grinds away to mark the passage of time. It is a super easy watch to read, as the 3 drums rotate in unison to tell the time. Setting this one up is a bit of a challenge as you have to calibrate the drums first to get them to line up. Once that is done however, the watch rotates those drums accurately. As far as features go, this one will only tell you the time, but in a cool way.

Breakfast this morning...raisin bread.

Day 9.

Today, I went with the latest addition...an Invicta Bolt Sport. This one has a rubber shroud around the watch...which I guess should help to protect the watch..

After work...a nice little trip to the Sault Canal.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190621_173638small_zpsuvwptj3m.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190621_173638small_zpsuvwptj3m.jpg.html)

And the old post office at the canal.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190621_173736small_zpshakpgyrj.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190621_173736small_zpshakpgyrj.jpg.html)

I must say, with these larger watches, Invicta is rather generous with the metal links. Usually, I set the adjustment on the clasp to the smallest setting and the watch will fit a bit loose without having to add or remove links.

Day 10.

Here is a watch I bought in the early to mid 90s if memory serves me right.  At the time, I was looking for a watch that hardly weighed anything...and found this Pulsar Titanium watch at Sears. Titanium is nice and light, but it tends to scratch easily. On the plus side, it tends to heat up to body temperature really quickly and that just adds to the overall comfort of the watch over stainless steel.

I spent the day at the new city splash pad at Bellvue Park with the grandkid.

Day 11.

I bought this online for a great price used. I think I only paid 50 dollars Canadian for it. The price was very attractive, that I bought 2. Today, I decided to wear this gold coloured Verizon Wear24 watch. I guess this was an overly pricey watch that Verizon tried to up-sell to their customer base. It wasn't very popular, and hence why you can buy a used copy for less than 50 dollars. I on the other hand, was curious to see what this watch was all about. I must say, I really like this one, and am happy I bought 2 of them, the other being the stainless steel version. This watch uses Android Wear 2.0. What I really like about this watch is the constant ghost image that shows you the time. My other smart watch depends on wrist gestures to turn the watch on for a short time. This one also does that...but with the time always on the watch face, I see no need to go that route. There is a problem however, and it involves bright sunlight. The image is washed out, even when you turn the brightness of the screen to max. Another let down of this watch...anemic speaker. Even with all the shortfalls, to get a great functioning smart watch for under 50 bucks...its hard to not like the watch for that price.

Here is the watch on bright mode. press the single button on the watch to brighten the always on display. Indoors, it is blinding. You can install and change many different watch faces, always a plus.

Day 12.

Once again I broke down and wore a newer watch. This large and heavy watch is an Invicta Bolt with Swiss movement. I like all watches, including the gaudy ones...and this green beauty fits the bill nicely. The bracelet is actually a little large on me. I could do with a link or two removed...which is refreshing compared to my having to buy more links to fit me.

I did not plan this. The year book came out today and when I saw the title...pure happenstance.

It is a very flashy watch. The crystal has a nice shape to it that accentuates the interior depending on the angle of view. The green has multiple sunbursts that really catch the light, and the green just glows depending on the lighting.

Day 13.

Up next is this Timex Expedition Shock XL watch.

I have to say, Timex is not very generous with their watch band length compared to Casio. This one fits me...but just. However, it is still comfortable. I just which I had a bit more wiggle room. On the up side, the watch is shock and water resistant to 200 meters. Not sure about the negative display. I always prefer a positive display as they tend to more legible in different lighting. With that said, this one is fairly visible compared to some much cheaper Chinese offerings I have. I got this one because I was curious about Timex's offerings that compete with the Casio G-shocks. Vibrate alarm is great feature. The indiglo lights the face really nice.

Day 14.

Next up on the list, a Timex WS4. This watch caught my eye back in 2009 when I was looking for an ABC watch. This means it has an altimeter, barometer, and compass functions. What I really like about this watch is the small weather station icons it shows to forecast the weather. This watch was used as the basis design of the Timex Expedition Grid Shock that I wore back on day 7. This is just such a neat watch design wise, and because of all that real-estate, the graphs are nice and big.

If it is a true 50m, then that is awesome, but watches that say 50m usually end up fogging up in a pool after a while.

Hopefully that one wouldn't. :ahhh

Day 15.

Because today was Graduation day at work, I decided to go a little up scale with the Bulova Champlain Precisionist Chronograph. This is one cool watch from the beautiful face, the curved glass, the super cool sweeping second hand that runs like an automatic. Hard to believe this is a diver at that.with a rating of 300m.

To celebrate, I took the better half for an ice cream cone up at Hiawatha.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190628_174839small_zpsfesumuf1.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190628_174839small_zpsfesumuf1.jpg.html)

The Timex is a nice watch. Once again, it has that negative display. Depending upon the lighting, you can see it very well or non at all. Still not sure why these negative displays are so popular on watches these day.

Looks nice, Chako! The band looks wide, which I find more comfortable. :like:

Personally, I think the negative display is popular for the same reasons BO MTs are popular. Tacticool look, which looks nice sometimes. But, if it makes a watch illegible in certain light, then it is definitely not a good trade off to look stealthy. :ahhh

That makes sense. At least this watch has excellent indiglo backlighting. I must admit the dark background does make the analogue hands pop.

Day 17.

Next up in line...a 4 dollar watch bought at a Dollar Store. I wasn't expecting much from this watch. I mean, the second and hour hands move slightly when you push in the crown after setting it up. The back doesn't have any writing on it whatsoever. With that said, the watch doesn't look all that bad except there is no lumen. Those green dots are there just to pretend they glow in the dark.  What do you expect for 4 bucks? Like everything else out there. surprisingly good at keeping time. Water resistant to zero would be my fair guess. Not a bad face however.

Had to do some grocery shopping.

Day 18.

Today is another cheap watch bought at WalMart. I liked the red colours and the digital display. However, this watch does have a shortcoming, and that is low light reading. The red hands blend in and are a bit hard to see in low light, and have no glow to them. Furthermore, there is no back-lighting on the digital display. The bracelet is comfortable, and the watch is nice and big, it is just not a low light performer.

When I grew up in Cornwall Ontario, the family would end up in a small place called Lancaster quite often for a bit of a drive. We would invariably stop at a burger joint and watch the trains go by so fast a few yards off that you would feel like you were spinning out of control. Those hamburgers were delicious. I can remember how delicious they were...and that was back in the 70s. Afterwards, we would always end up in the countryside at a local cheese factory. They made the best curds ever, and it was a treat to eat them still hot and squeaky. Well, here I am today eating those same cheese curds from the St. Albert Co-operative...only not as fresh in refrigerated bags bought locally...go figure. A blast from the past I can tell you...and am quite happy to have found these curds locally. They taste almost as good as memory tells me. Nothing beats buying them fresh and hot...but this is a good second.  :tu:

Today, I decided to wear something a bit flashy and suitable for the St. Joseph Richard's Landing Tractor Trot. It is where a bunch of folks parade in their tractors on Canada Day. It is a fun even, and a good way to start the day's celebrations. For this occasion, I wore an Invicta S1 Rally Chronograph.

Day 22.

My Jeep has been giving me issues of late. Several months ago, I noticed that when I gave the Jeep some gas, it would shudder. Nothing big at the start. I noted it but didn't think much of it. Well as time progressed, it got progressively worse. A month ago, I pumped gas into my vehicle, but it made a whooshing noise and I got gas in fits and spurts. At the time, I assumed I was at the bottom of the tank. The shaking only got worst after that. Because of that, I assumed it was my fuel system. I added some gas line cleaning additives and didn't notice much of a difference. I at first worried it was my transmission, but the problem was inconsistent from day to day. It progressively got worst to the point where I was losing power to such an extent that I would have the peddle to the metal, my RPMs would be at around 4000, and I would not get the power as it should. It all sort of pointed to my fuel filter being blocked...possibly from that bad gas experience at the pump. The issue would become more consistent at highway speeds. Now if I gave it gas, it would shudder and jerk, but once I got it to speed, and let off the gas, it purred as it should. Some days, the Jeep would work ok...others, it would appear once the engine warmed itself up. I waited till I was on my holidays to take care of it. A shop teacher friend told me it could be my spark plugs...

I did a little research and found out that the fuel filter is in the fuel tank and is designed to last the life of the vehicle. You could access it, but it would require the removal of the rear seat and or the spare tire. I hoped it wasn't my transmission, or the fuel system. I made my appointment for an oil change and a spark plug change. Got both done, and the Jeep is back to speed. My buddy was right...it was the spark plugs.

Lucky we didn't break down a few weeks ago when we went for a nice long ride to Manitoulin Island. Yes, I am a lucky smurf.

Today, as I waited for my 11 am appointment...a Casio watch.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190704_105310small_zpschjksqxv.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190704_105310small_zpschjksqxv.jpg.html)

This model is a nice one. It does have some issues however. The analogue hands are skeletonized so much that they are hard to see. The LCD display lights up nicely. The watch is good to 10 bar, and that is a good thing. Because it is a Casio, the bracelet is nice and long. Having the earth on the watch is a nice touch as it illustrates your world time zones. That secondary time display however is so small it is mostly useless. More so as the hour and minute hands are diminutive. Love the bronze colour scheme. It is a nice watch overall with a few shortcomings.

Day 23.

We just had to give the Jeep the acid test. The better half suggested we do one of those day trips to Manitoulin Island. We left at around 8:20 am and just got home at 7:30 pm. Happy to report that the Jeep worked like a champ. Plenty of power. I did take plenty of photos today. I wore a Bulova today.

First photo came in at lunch time. We had a Pulled Pork sandwich from Subway in Blind River.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190705_105148small_zpsuxtx1jf3.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190705_105148small_zpsuxtx1jf3.jpg.html)

The next photo was taken in Little Current on Manitoulin Island. Barney's Bargain Barn is a great place to find all sorts of bargains. Quite often, slightly outdated food at huge discounts. I have found some multi-tools in the past, which keeps me visiting this place every time we find ourselves on the island.

 (https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190705_125710small_zpsfdav6ely.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190705_125710small_zpsfdav6ely.jpg.html)

Today was just a short visit as we left so late. Next photo is us waiting for the go ahead to take the bridge off the Island.

Can't go through Espanola without stopping at the Giant Tiger., It amazes me that Sault Ste. Marie doesn't have one, but a small place like Espanola does.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190705_135719wsmall_zpsnecdqia3.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190705_135719wsmall_zpsnecdqia3.jpg.html)

Time to fuel up at Serpent River on the way back home. Note to self, gas mileage is much better with working spark plugs. Just saying.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190705_151551small_zpsmqvkg9qc.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190705_151551small_zpsmqvkg9qc.jpg.html)

Back in Blind River at the Lucky Garden for supper. Their buffet food is rather good.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190705_155941small_zpsboavocex.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190705_155941small_zpsboavocex.jpg.html)

A final stop at Iron Bridge to get some beverages.

Day 24.

Next in line is this Pro 4 Tactical watch. The watch came with a flashlight, and was bought at TSC for the princely sum of 10 bucks. To be truthful, I was angling more for the flashlight, making the watch a nice extra.

Lunch today consisted of smoked Gouda slices on chicken deli sandwiches.

Later today, we went to visit some good friends of mine. I haven't seen them in quite some time. Funnily enough, their birds always perk up when I come for a visit. They absolutely love me. I can pet them, scratch them, and even kiss them.

And a few bonus shots of the Umbrella Cockatoos...

These guys are super smart, and they never seem to forget. I could see them once a year, and they will greet me excitedly and come in for cuddles. My friend's grown children on the other hand...not so good. Not sure what they did to them at some point...but these guys are like elephants...they just never forget. Those beaks are nothing to trifle with either. I have seen them crack nuts like nothing.

Guess why they are outside.

At first, they had their own room, and their own cage. It did not take long before they figured out how to unlock the cage. Once out, they attacked the walls. No matter what he tried, the little Houdinis managed to escape. He then tried to cover the room with aluminium panels. It did not take him long to figure they wanted outside once the weather is suitable.

The photos above...it has been almost a full year since I saw them last. They still perk up when they see me. My friend still can not believe it. He keeps telling me I am their favourite human...and I do not even feed them.   :D

Which tells me I should visit them more often.

Day 25.

A lazy day today. The temperatures cooled down a little and it made it all the more enjoyable to laze around.

I lazed around so much I almost forgot to take my watch photo. Here I am waiting for some fish and chips for supper.

Today, I wore an Invicta Speedway.

Day 27.

Today, I went to the dark side with an Invicta Pro Diver Master of the Oceans. We also had the grand-kid today, so we took her to Manitoulin Island for a nice day of traveling.

Here we are in Bruce Mines.

It was another great day. Left at 6:30 am and arrived back home at 8:00 pm.

As for the Invicta watch...it is a beauty...but the title of this one is a bit pretentious considering the crown does not lock down, and it is only good to 20 bar.

Day 28.

How about a vintage Citizen EcoDrive dress watch. I bought this watch sometime in the mid to late 90s if memory serves me correctly. At the time, I wanted something solar powered and wasn't round. This watch fit the bill at the time. I will say, of all my EcoDrive watches, this one has been the best. I have yet needed to replace the battery in this watch...knock on wood. I have not worn this watch in quite some time, and today just brought back a few downfalls I had forgotten about this one. There are 2 pet peeves of mine. One being that there is no light or illumination. Furthermore, when I bought this watch, I didn't pay much attention to the legibility. The steel hands contrast nicely with the white background...but once the light drops noticeably, this is a hard watch to read as those steel hands reflect light and play tricks with your eyes. The next one, and to me, this is the bigger pet peeve. The crown has no knurling on it. Try changing the date on this watch as you twist the crown to no avail because the smurfing thing is slipperier than an eel caught on a fishing line. This came to the forefront as I tried to change the date. I think I may have sworn a few times. On the plus side, this is a super comfortable watch to wear, and the bracelet is large enough once I bought the 2 extra links to fit my wrist. Water resistant to 100 meters is a lot better than the usual standard 50 meters for most dress watches. I also like the simplicity of this watch. In my opinion, it is a nice looker. I just wish they would add some lume to those hands, and that smooth crown is an abomination. When fashion get in the way of functionality...that is never a good thing.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190710_090224small_zpsp97sak2x.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190710_090224small_zpsp97sak2x.jpg.html)

This is a bit of an oddity. Instead of giving you a nice stamped case back...you get a metallic sticker. Classy lol.

The sticker is ok..as nobody sees it. I remember when I first got the watch, I thought it was a protective layer to peel off. They must have used epoxy as there is no way to take that off short of using a grinder. :D

Definitely one of the better styles to come from the 1990s. :like:

One thing I found useful when setting my Movado Museum hands is to put on a rubber glove. It gives excellent grip on the polished stainless steel crown.

Day 29.

This is probably one of my more capable watches. It does everything I could think of in a watch. It is solar. It is radio controlled to sync with an atomic clock for accuracy. It is ABC functional, and it is good to 20 BAR water resistance. Heck, the watch will even give you the moon phase and tidal information. meet the Casio Pathfinder PAW1500. I bought this watch back in 09 when I was looking for something with ABC functionality. I got this at the same time as I got the Timex WS4. For quite a few years, this watch was my daily beater, consequently, I am on its second strap, which leads to the only downfall of this watch. The watch uses special bands which are expensive to replace, and are not very common these days.

30 days so far and counting.

Seeing that I bought this watch yesterday, I thought it would be a good time to take it out now as opposed to waiting a good 2 more months to wear it. With that said, today was a Hugo Boss Orange Paris day on the motorbike.

Day 31.

Today, I wore a Casio STL-S110H, which is a tough solar watch designed for the running sport. 10 BAR makes this watch not bad for possibly swimming as well..

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190713_091915small_zpsi6oaseqm.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190713_091915small_zpsi6oaseqm.jpg.html)

The watch is rather large, and the display is rather nice as well. The bracelet isn't as long as on some of my other Casio watches...but I can still make it to the last hole. With that said, this watch is super comfortable to wear.

Day 32.

Last night, I looked over my two Citizen Skyhawks and noted that one isn't doing so well. Looks like I will have to send this one back to Citizen to get a battery replacement as it no long will get a charge from light. The one down for the count is mine. The other that is still working was my father's watch...the Blue Angel Skyhawk. I am going to wear the one that works...and I guess the other will be slated for repair sometime this summer.

I left both watches overnight under an Ottlite. The one on the left is only flashing that display. I can't set any settings on it. The one on the right is good to go.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190714_060552small_zpsvutpjy5f.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190714_060552small_zpsvutpjy5f.jpg.html)

So today, I will wear my father's Skyhawk. Setting the time on these is a real adventure. These are odd in that you cannot set the analogue hands via the crown directly. To make things more entertaining, there are 3 positions on that crown, and depending on what you are doing, each position will give you a different effect. Not an intuitive watch to set I can tell you.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190714_060643small_zpsqhxtpnbf.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190714_060643small_zpsqhxtpnbf.jpg.html)

Here are instructions for the watch...to give you a bit of insight into how to set it. Instead of trying to dig out my owner's manual, I used this link I found online...which was much needed.

http://www.oocities.org/watch_crazy/skyhawk/setting/setting.htm (http://www.oocities.org/watch_crazy/skyhawk/setting/setting.htm)

The Citizen Skyhawks are remarkable pilot watches. Not only does it give you UTC time, but it also gives you world times as well. There is a sub dial that you access via a turn of the crown at position 1. This gives you your settings, time, stopwatch, count down timer, and the various alarms.

The bezel on this watch is equally complex, and functional. Here is a video on how to use one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgCozVUsrF4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgCozVUsrF4)

These are great watches. I just got to get the other one up and running. I have never had an issue with Casio solar powered watches. However, the Citizen Eco Drive watches have been a bit problematic in that they do need servicing every-now and then.

Day 34.

Next up for today, a ball bearing watch. I found this one on amazon after looking at a lot of watches. When it came in, it was damaged. I was able to fix it once I opened it up. It has been fairly accurate since. The ball bearing rotates around the face via a small magnet. The ball denotes the minutes. There is a central disk that tells you the hours. It is a neat watch, and one that was based on a much more expensive, and probably original watch design. Yes, this is a fairly cheap Chinese copy. Now that it works, I do like this watch for its uniqueness. Now for the bad part. That ball bearing clicks and clatters whenever I drive with the watch. Every now and then, the ball bearing will break free from the strong magnet and it will zip around the face making a racket. Above all however, is the constant chattering when driving that gets to me the most.

Day 35.

Today I wore a somewhat vintage Bulova Marine Star. Oddly enough, I didn't notice the wrong date until I looked at my photographs just now.

Day 36.

A vintage Citizen Chronometer. I have to say, during this era, Citizen had very nice lume on some of their watches. This and the one I wore on Day 20 have very nice and strong glow. Both are on par with the Seiko dive watches I own..and that is saying something.

Was back on St. Joseph island at a great restaurant called "Oh! Sweet Chees'us" at Richard's Landing. It was very hot today and a bit of a drive with the AC on was called for. This restaurant is all about grilled cheese. The food is excellent.

Day 37.

Today, we took another day trip but this time to Elliot Lake. With me for today, a Swiss Military Chronograph by Chrono.

In the city of Elliot Lake. Found myself a new cane for my collection.

Day 39.

I was finally able to make it to an IPSC competition at my gun club. Wore a Rocawear watch for the occasion. Man that was hot under the bright sun. The match started at 10 am and finished at 2 pm.

Here I am before the competition trying to get reacquainted with my M&P 9mm. The last time I shot it was a few years ago. Took me around 3 10 round magazines to do just that.

Day 40.

Wow...talk about dedication. I have lasted for 40 days and counting.

Today, a Fossil Grant was next up for grabs. This was an odd watch to be honest. The lugs were super sharp. So much so that it shaved two layers of skin where they made contact the first time I wore it. This watch drew blood. I ended up taking a sharpening stone to the lugs in an effort to take that edge off. I was successful but it took some elbow grease to get it done.

Next up is a TVG remote control watch. Yes, this fellow will allow you to turn on/off TVs, DVD, VHS, cable boxes etc. It is a built in universal remote that follows the code convention to get it working with what you have. Because of that, it ticks the gadget box nicely.

Day 43.

Today, a very loud Techno King Soul of Stones Black Rock. Of all my sparkly watches, this one sparkles the most. I think it has something to do with the black background and all those white stones. I am by nature, not an extrovert...but wearing things like this can be entertaining. It amuses me at how much attention this watch gets. This can be yours for only 35 Canadian from Amazon. Even though my first one recently got broken by the jeweler when she did a battery change...for the price, this watch has presence. Not that bad at keeping time as well.

Enter silly face. Took the better half to see "Secret Life of Pets 2" at the local cinema.

Day 44.

Today, I am going to wear a BozGo Bozlun smart watch.

I am not sure what it is with smart watches. I sort of love them and  hate them at the same time. Case in point. I was browsing smart watches online and I came across this watch that had a different looking interface that caught my attention. When I looked at the price, It was hard to not go for it as it was well under 100 dollars. Once I ordered it, I did a bit more researching and found out that the watch started life as a kickstarter campaign.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1237640011/bozgo-24-7-health-tracking-smarsmurfch-with-live-3d (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1237640011/bozgo-24-7-health-tracking-smarsmurfch-with-live-3d)

Yes, we are talking about a BozGo Bozlun smart watch.

The reason why I love smart watches so much...is the capabilities that are above and beyond what a normal watch can do. The reason why I hate them so much is two fold. 1-they are mostly on and off devices necessitating either a flick of the wrist or a push of a button to turn on the device in order to read the time. 2-there is an app that is required to go onto your cellphone that is quite often the Achilles heel of the device. Quite often, the app is terrible, and will either not pair with your phone, or if it does, will kill your battery on the phone quickly when on. The App for this one isn't so bad...but I do have a big issue with it which I will explain a little later in this mini review.

The packaging is rather beautiful due to its colourful rounded metal canister. A little humour is interjected on the packaging as it states "No more Time! BozGo! That is an odd statement...but then again, lots of oddity appears on Chinese items. I must assume something got lost in the translation to English. Included in the packaging is the watch (I got the blue bracelet version), a colourful instruction manual that is first half Chinese, second half English, and one of those magnetic USB charging cables.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7602small_zpswsdqlibz.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7602small_zpswsdqlibz.jpg.html)

Looking on the back of the watch, you can see the heart rate sensor, and the charging port.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7603small_zpsauv4jgcn.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7603small_zpsauv4jgcn.jpg.html)

The magnetic coupler is fairly strong. Because of the exposed pins, I would attach the charging cable to the phone first, and then plug it in afterwards for fear of shorting something out.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7604small_zpsho1aqhiq.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7604small_zpsho1aqhiq.jpg.html)

Here is the bottom stick on the cute packaging. Note that the manufacturer is Shenzhen Berace Technology Company, Limited.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7606small_zpsek9i2usw.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7606small_zpsek9i2usw.jpg.html)

The watch features 5 buttons, Pressing the middle one for 3 seconds will turn the watch on/off. What originally attracted me to this watch was the "3D" graphics. Well...I must say, there is no such thing as a 3D feature on this watch. In hand, you quickly notice that the watch is simply 2D with animations. There are 3 main screens you can rotate through. I am quite happy to state that the watch will remember which main screen you are one. I had read a review that someone hated the interface as it would always revert to the main page. I am happy that it remembers as the main screen looks good on the computer but is a bit hard to read on your wrist. I imagine this is because once you flicked your wrist to turn on the watch to read, it only gives you a very limited time to do so. The reading of the time on the main screen is something you couldn't just do on a glance. There is a space theme that runs throughout the 3 main screens. I am ok with that.

Here is the main screen. You need to quickly locate little red triangles to read the hour and minute. During this time, the earth is rotating which does distract you a little...that is until you get used to the interface.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7593small_zps13ahns3a.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7593small_zps13ahns3a.jpg.html)

Forgive my photographic skills here. It was a bit difficult to capture the watch while one. Regardless, this is the analogue version of the main screen. Note the continuation of the space theme on this screen as well. The solar system is also animated.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7591small_zpsohzejewh.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7591small_zpsohzejewh.jpg.html)

Last but not least, my favorite main screen. At least I can read the time quickly in the short time that the screen flashes on and off.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7597small_zpsjay80g3o.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7597small_zpsjay80g3o.jpg.html)

Some of the watch features are pretty good for what it is. The heart rate monitor is kinda cool. You can set it up to constantly take heart rates during an exercise period for example. Here is the best I could do while juggling a camera, etc.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7598small_zps13bjfkdk.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7598small_zps13bjfkdk.jpg.html)

I wore the watch last night during my sleep (something I never do is wear a watch during sleep), to see what the sleep function is all about. To be honest, I didn't receive anything  during my sleep cycle. Now, the watch is supposed to analyze your sleep patterns, and even wake you up during a light sleep phase as opposed to waking you up in a deep sleep. I haven't tried this feature, as I haven't played with the alarm setting. Maybe I need to wear this watch several times before the sleep analysis will take place. Quite possibly, I may have to fork a lot of my personal data to the company to be allowed access to this function in the application...more on this later. I have as yet to be sold on any of these sleep monitoring functions on any watch that I own that has this feature. Here is the sleep monitoring screen.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7600small_zpszqqdi8lg.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7600small_zpszqqdi8lg.jpg.html)

The battery on this watch is amazing. It is nice to not have to recharge the watch every night. Here is the battery icon that shows battery charge.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7601small_zpsc4sqxnsh.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7601small_zpsc4sqxnsh.jpg.html)

Here is the "normal" state of the BozGo. I was able to make setting changes using the app to enable "gestures". This allows the watch to turn on when you turn your wrist to look at it. This generally works well, albeit a bit distracting as you go about your business with the smart watch going nuts turning itself on and off during the day. The watch is very light, and this surprised me somewhat when I got it. At the time, I wasn't aware that there were two versions of this watch, the BozGo, and the BoxGo Premium. The Premium features a stainless steel bezel ring. My more basic copy features a plastic bezel. Frankly, if all that is different is the metal disk, I do not mind owning the less fancy watch. Not sure what plastic they use, but is appears durable. What I do not like about the watch on a purely aesthetic basis, is the world time places around the bezel. They are only there for fashion and are not usable. Much like fake sub-dials, I am not much a fan of the fake inscriptions. On the plus side, the bracelet is large enough for me to get to the third hole if needed, and the bracelet is comfortable.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7599small_zpsgsy0u4fu.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7599small_zpsgsy0u4fu.jpg.html)

Now onto the App. As far as connectivity goes, I will have to rate this application high marks. I do this because it was easy to pair the application with my cell phone, which is an LG G6. Once paired via Bluetooth, it remained paired. I have other "smart watches" who's applications are terrible and fairly unusable. With that said, there is a big issue with me, and that is one of privacy. If you have read about China and the US, and even Canada, or for that matter, China versus many other nations, there is a big worry about identify theft. This application does not dissuade you from this notion that China wants to know everything about you. For instance, I have as yet created an account. It asks a lot of personal data from you, such as your cell phone, age, date of birth, etc. A lot of things that I am not comfortable in giving over to this company. There is a "tourist mode" that allows me basic functionality such as watch settings that I probably wouldn't be able to access if I had to fork over so much of my personal information. In tourist mode (how quaint), I cannot use a lot of the functions of this application like creating profiles, etc. Consequently, the application defaults to calling you "Hail".

Here is the main screen of the application "RaceFitPro".

At least you can access some of the watch functions with a "tourist" account...which means you sign in with no account.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7585small_zpsa4ao3pjo.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7585small_zpsa4ao3pjo.jpg.html)

Here is the Record section. If you scroll down, there are several other function graphs you can access such as heart rate, and sleep analysis.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7586small_zpsqhy8acoo.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7586small_zpsqhy8acoo.jpg.html)

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/IMG_7587small_zps7jkbj3pa.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/IMG_7587small_zps7jkbj3pa.jpg.html)

The sport section only gives you two sections...running and bicycling. I didn't take a screen shot but it is similar to the above "record" section.

So what do I think about the BozGo smart watch by Bozlun. I will just write my impressions and list them in no particular order.

1. The watch is light and thin. Wearing this for any length of time is no hardship. In fact, you might even forget you are wearing it.
2. The watch materials, although not premium, does feel sturdy enough. The light weight does give the user an overall cheap feeling to the watch though. Either that, or I am used to watches that weight more.
3. The application RaceFitPro connects to my LG well. A big negative is all the personal info I need to fork over in order to access most of the apps functionality.
4. There are a few listed features such as the constant heart rate monitoring, and an alarm that is supposed to wake you up with vibrations during your not so deep sleep cycles...both I have as yet tried.
5. Only 3 watch faces, and they are a lot alike. The 3D interface claim is a joke. albeit a bit unique visually from what is out there.
6. Standard smart watch functions are also here, such as shake wrist to take a photo from your cell phone (I tried this and it works nicely), find your phone, etc. Nothing unusual that I haven't already mentioned.
7. Magnetic charging cable does feel rubbery cheap, but the magnets are strong, even if the pins stick out a little more than I would like to. Attaching the cable to the watch first, and then plugging the USB cable into a USB port second should eliminate the possibility of shorting something out.

So there you have it. A somewhat unique smart watch with an application that forces you to give up a lot of personal data to the Chinese to gain full functionality of your watch features...well that isn't cool at all. At least you can enter "visitor mode" without give up all your secrets to a hostile foreign nation...and if you have been following the news with China and Canada...hostile is the word of these times, I would rate this watch relatively higher than I am willing to today. Overall, the interface is cute if by no means 3D. I do like the planet animation themes. You can use the watch as a standard watch...and the gestures do work well here. The battery life is a winner as well. I think the watch should last 5 days on a single charge. There is a lot to like here...but I can't get over their asking for my phone number, date of birth, full name, etc. Seems down right creepy to fork all of that over to get full access to RaceFitPro application. Furthermore, if you read their app legal section, they have access to all your very personal information such as sleep cycles, health, etc...anything that this watch monitors. Could be I am suffering from a tinge of paranoia, but to me, something smells rotten here. Just saying.

Thanks Wspeed. This one is a bit crippled because I refuse to sign up for full access to the application. At least I can still use this one as a regular watch.

Yeah, it can be a bit of a problem for some of these smart watch applications.

Here is a bonus shot of the Bozgo taken yesterday.

Day 45.

Next up in line is a Suunto Quest training watch...which is no longer in production. I have not used the wrap around heart monitor that came with this watch, nor the Movestick mini usb dongle. This one is a great watch for sports enthusiast in the swimming, running, and bicycling sports. I do not do any of them, and just got it because I liked the orange look of it...go figure.

Yeah. that Quest does look weird. Not only is the bezel orange accented...but the LCD is orange in colour.

So far, gone through 2 out of 5 boxes. Here is a foreshadowing of the next box.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190727_191103small_zpsfd8snerg.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190727_191103small_zpsfd8snerg.jpg.html)

Interestingly, I won't be able to wear those first 2 watches as the bracelets are too small for my wrists. I can almost make the last hole...almost. Maybe I should get newer longer bracelets for those although I feel it might ruin the set in some way. The pair are X-Change watches bought as a set in the late 90s, early 2000s. The idea is to have fully interchangeable straps, bezels, and watch faces. You can combine any of them to make two different watches, or switch them around for a larger combination of looks. Oddly enough, the watch face states "Swiss Parts". lol.

Today, a Casio AE3000W-1AV. Nice and big with 3 time zones shown. Also good to 10 Bar for water. What attracted me to this watch, other then its size, is the 3d effect LCD world on the watch face.

Day 48.

Probably one of my favorite watches in my collection based on looks, construction, and overall feel of quality and weight, is this California Electric diver DW01. Rated to 30 Bar with screw down crowns and pushers. I was so impressed with this watch, I hunted down a different model from the same company. California Electric is one of those surfer oriented business that deals with fashion. I understand they got out of watches in the past few years...and that is unfortunate. Not sure who made them but the quality is high.

I took the better half for some rifle shooting at the gun club. Before you notice...after I took all my photos, I noticed that my date was off. I hadn't set the date in quite some time. I re-adjusted it afterwards to reflect the 30th.

Day 51.

Today, a recent purchase...a G-Shock DW-5600E. I have looked high and low for this watch at my local Walmart for ages now as I had heard you can find this at that store chain...to no avail. I gather Walmart USA does...and not Walmart Canada. I know it is one of the cheapest G-Shocks, and it does give that 80s retro vibe. I ordered one and am quite pleased with it. No complaints other than the buttons are so recessed that pressing them is a bit challenging...but that is a design feature to protect them from hits. For the cash outflow, this is probably one of the toughest watches for so little $$$.  :tu:

Thanks Wspeed. I certainly did.  :hatsoff:

After feeling so low yesterday, I felt 1000% better today. So much so that we went for another day trip to Manitoulin Island. Just got back at around 8 PM.

Once again..I erred when setting the date. I prepped the watch last night, shook it for a few minutes...set the time and date on it...then today, forgot to re-check the date. Only noticed it had advanced an extra day when I got home to look at the photographs. I guess that should tell you how often I check the date during a day of wearing a watch. At least I got the day correct.

Anyways, next up is a Seiko 5 Sport, aka...Yellow Frankenstein. Good to 20 Bar, and the lume is so bright, it practically glows during the day time.

Day 56.

A Skmei ABC watch. I was very curious to see what sort of quality and accuracy a cheap Chinese watch that featured ABC functionality would have. I must say, I was overall surprised. I compared the sensor readouts for both the altimeter and barometer with my other ABC watches...and found it to be in the same ballpark. Like the stainless steel ring around the watch. My only worry is the "crystal" looks to be where corners were cut. Only good to 3 Atmospheres for water resistance. Not exactly a fan of the negative display...but to be fair, if I can catch the light right, it is super easy to read. If you need something cheap that will do the trick..and you do not plan in playing in a lot of water, this could be your outdoor trek watch on the cheap.

Got the watch showing the barometer. Note the graph dropping. Storming outside right now.

I love ABC functionality for one big reason....love the Barometer feature to death. I just like having forewarning of bad or good weather. The other features could come in handy if your hiking outdoors I suppose, but I would never rely on electronic compass personally, and I suppose knowing the altitude doesn't do much for me. Now if I was into climbing maybe. No. for me, ABC basically starts and stops at the B.

Day 59.

I bought this Ohsen watch because it was square, and it had these cute little dancing guys on the face. It was quirky enough to get my attention. Once I got it home, this is a very comfortable watch to wear.

A mystery to be sure...considering it went straight into the case after purchase. I did wear it once or twice before. I can say, it is very disappointing to see dust under the crystal. I didn't pay much for the watch...but with that issue now known, whatever I paid for it was too much.

I am a big fan. Thinking of adding another G-Shock to the collection. Those seem to be a bit addicting actually. I need to proceed slowly.

So far I have a Casio DW5600E-1V, which is your bog basic square retro model with no bells or whistles. Kinda reminds me of the early G-Shocks I can seem to remember. A Casio GA-100LG-8ACR which I bought because I liked the positive LCD along with that weird iced blue resin case. A Casio GA-700-4A in red...simply because I wanted a fairly large watch in red. Last but not least, a Casio GA-2000-1A9ER which I accidentally bought online. I wanted that one due to the yellow colour and also because it is part of the new carbon core lineup. Oddly enough, when I bought my first, the 700, I assumed that would be my last. Yeah, we know how that turned out.

So now, I am thinking of another model...just not sure yet what I will get.

Day 64.

Today, I wore a Lad Weather Altimeter/Barometer/Digital Compass/Thermometer watch. I actually like this watch a lot. It is relatively cheap for being a full blown ABC watch, or at least it was. Looks like the price on these went up since last I bought on off of Amazon. What I like about this watch is the nice big and beautiful graphs this watch gives you. Not only that, but you also get the time and temperature along with your graph of choice. I love watches that have barometers in them. I like to be able to forecast weather trends, and this watch does not disappoint. In fact, there are tiny little weather station icons to help you decipher the barometer feature...if you need them. I tend to leave the barometer graph as my main page whenever I wear this watch. Some of the watches weaknesses are a water resistance of only 3 atmosphere, and a somewhat soft crystal. With that aside, the features are great, and I have found the sensor data to be fairly accurate.

Here I am wearing the watch today. From the graph, you can see that today was an up and down kinda air pressure day.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190815_133725small_zpsmxtldewe.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190815_133725small_zpsmxtldewe.jpg.html)

We went on another little ride, this time going up Hwy 638 through Sylvan Valley, Leeburn, Ophir, Rydal Bank, Bruce Station, and ending up at Bruce Mines. All of these places are so small, if you blinked, you would miss them. Here is a photo taken of one of the plaques found in Rydal Banks.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190815_134457small_zpssi7l9sp9.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190815_134457small_zpssi7l9sp9.jpg.html)

and one focused on the sign...in case you were curious of what it said.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190815_134500small_zpsa8zusl95.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190815_134500small_zpsa8zusl95.jpg.html)

Overall, a great day with a good watch.

I also have a Pyle Sport ABC watch that is exactly the same watch with a bit of branding changed on it. That one has a nice green bezel as opposed to the LAD Weather's black bezel. I bought them thinking there was a bit of difference between them only to find they are the exact same watch. I believe the Pyle Sport versions are cheaper on Amazon...so if you want one, I would strongly suggest going for the Pyle copy.

Day 66.

A Kingwear KW88 Pro Android 7.0 smart watch for today. After having a few teething problems when I first got the watch, I am happy to say that all the gremlins have now disappeared. This is a kinda cool watch to operate. I love that I can talk to this watch and with the aid of google assistant, it will tell me the information I am looking for on the internet. A necessity as the screen is small, and trying to surf the internet on it is just at the limits for my poor eyes. Yeah you can do it...but it isn't something you would want to do often. The assistant is a godsend. Like many smart watches out there...there are a ton of watch faces to use. These aren't as intelligent as those on my Wear OS watches in that the faces that have complications, are not user changeable as those on the Wear OS system.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190817_100407small_zpsr6d2fwsu.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190817_100407small_zpsr6d2fwsu.jpg.html)

Here are a couple more watch faces...

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190817_171018small_zpsjuoagmrt.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190817_171018small_zpsjuoagmrt.jpg.html)

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190817_171115small_zpsaalgif3i.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190817_171115small_zpsaalgif3i.jpg.html)

This watch has a weird feature...it has a built in camera.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190817_171207small_zpskn3dft9s.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190817_171207small_zpskn3dft9s.jpg.html)

The underside of the watch illustrates the magnetic charging cable connector, a hatch for SIM cards in case you wanted to use this as a stand alone phone, and the ever present heart rate sensor.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190817_171218small_zpsdga1ql6k.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190817_171218small_zpsdga1ql6k.jpg.html)

This is a fairly good watch with many built in features. I bought it because I couldn't refuse one for the price as I was very curious about the whole smart watch thing. I found the included app worked but was fairly bare bones. I much prefer using it as a stand alone watch that can access WiFi...which is something I tend to use quite often at work. I find that I can get a day and a half on usual wear. I can extend that a little by turning things off that drain the battery. If I use all the features on, I am lucky to get through the day. I thought gestures to turn on the watch when you flick your wrist was a good idea, but I found that drained the battery quicker as it turned itself on and off constantly. I now have that turned off, and if I want to see the time, I just press the single pusher, and once again to turn off the watch. It does have its issues...it isn't a Samsung or an Apple. Not so much interested in Apple as I don't have an Apple phone...but I have been toying with a Samsung as I am given to understand their in-house front end is the industry best for Android phone users. But in the meantime, I do have this nice watch to keep me till I eventually break down and buy a Samsung. With that said, I have read countless articles that Wear OS from Google is struggling.

Title: Re: The watch collector challenge.
Post by: Chako on August 18, 2019, 01:25:02 PM
Most smart watches out there give you the ability to change the watch face. This Android watch has literally hundreds to choose from...as do Wear OS as well as the Apple and Samsung watches also. The biggest issue here is that you don't see your watch face unless you have gestures enabled, or you physically press a pusher to activate the watch. Wear OS watches, from what I know from my watch that uses Wear OS, do show the watch face in a more energy efficient ghost mode. At least you can tell your time indoors as I have found bright sunlight will overpower the watch. I can't speak about Samsung or Apple. The think with these smart watches...you are always trying to conserve battery power to make it to the end of the day. There are some better models that have longer battery life...especially those geared towards sports...out there.

Here is an example. I was drooling over getting myself a Casio Pro Trek WSD family smart watch. I thought it would make an excellent outdoor survival watch...except the battery time sucks...and it is based on the Wear OS by Google. This would necessitate carrying a small solar panel to keep the watch going as it will only last a day and a half at best on a charge..even less if you use GPS. Kinda defeats the purpose I think. I can still  at them however, no matter how impractical they are.

Day 67.

A sister watch to the LAD Weather watch I wore on day 64. Meet the Pyle Sport version. This and the Lad Weather watch were bought with me thinking they were different. Um...yeah, the colour was the only thing different between them. The Pyle sport was actually a lot cheaper than the Lad Weather...even though they are the same exact watch. Come to think about it, the Pyle has more branding both on the bezel as well as the back of the case. These make very nice ABC watches. As previously mentioned, I like to keep the Barometer graph in place as I like to forecast the weather....must be something about me being a Geography teacher.

Anyhow, I love this watch, and am happy to have two copies in different colours. If I had to do this again, I would just buy 2 of the Pyles and save a bit of dough.

I had an IPSC competition today. Here I am doing a self portrait with watch at the gun club.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190818_122634small_zpsdzddkiiq.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190818_122634small_zpsdzddkiiq.jpg.html)

The barometric trend graph doesn't lie. We had a storm rolling in. In fact, when the air pressure drops, I tend to get these little headaches...and today was no exception. Each dot represents an hour...and I do believe this watch keeps track of the past 36 to 38 hours...very useful. My Casio Pathfinder also does a graph, but it is very small. I much prefer the ones found on these watches.

Day 68.

A Shark Sport Greenland 2 watch was on tap for today. It is a very nice watch in many respects. It has a 24 hour display on the top, the seconds are counted on a rotating disk on the bottom, and left and right are the day and date. Lots of complications on this watch...and I have one big problem with it. I need a magnifying class to see the day/date. Picked up the eye catching yellow and black version. only resistant to 3 atmosphere, and the lume on the hands are a bit of a let down. Other than that, it is a very nice looking watch in my opinion.

Day 69.

A beautiful Brigada Verawood watch. I bought it for two reasons...it has a maple leaf on it...and it was one of those flash sales where I got it so cheap I couldn't refuse. It states on Amazon that it is a Swiss watch...but it really isn't. It is a Chinese company. With that said, I have been very happy with the quality of this timepiece.

Today was another day trip to Manitoulin Island. I took this photo at the Espanola mall.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190820_124702small_zpsjwa7e4fx.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190820_124702small_zpsjwa7e4fx.jpg.html)

On the way back, we stopped at a new scenic spot at Algoma Mills, just east of Blind River.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190820_144639small_zpsabloke8g.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190820_144639small_zpsabloke8g.jpg.html)

Eating at one of our favorite Chinese  restaurants...Lucky Garden in Blind River.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190820_151827small_zpszg4ftbs2.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190820_151827small_zpszg4ftbs2.jpg.html)

The watch has a nice weight, and I love the Verawood on the face and bracelet. When the sun hits it, it just glows nicely, and I love the grain texture on the watch face. Setting the time and date tells me this is not the cheapest made watch out there. I am impressed with this Brigada watch. I just do not like the dishonesty of their ads stating that Brigada is a Swiss company, which it isn't. If the rest of their watches are of similar quality, they do not need to lie about their origin.

Hard to believe this has been going on for 70 days. Now down to my last display case and all the automatics in the watch winder case.

Today, a Neff Odyssey. 10 bar water resistant, white, and an interesting LCD layout. I couldn't leave it in the skater shop I saw it in.

I really like the magnetic clasp on this mesh bracelet. It is super comfortable. This watch is made by the Accutime Watch Corporation.

Day 72.

Today, a Kyboe! Silver Hunt 55 Mariner found itself on my wrist. This watch features 10 Bar water resistance and a weird LED system that lights up a dot at every hour marker. This watch is a beast.

Found this 3D portrait of my girlfriend's cat. It is about 95% accurate. Had to get it for her once I laid eyes on it.

Thanks.  I do have a soft spot for blue watches. :tu:

Day 76.

Today, a cheaper line from Fossil. I forget the brand name...however it is not marked on the watch..front or back. This is a not that bad automatic.

We had seen a few photos on Facebook about how the St. Mary's River is so high, that it is flooding the boardwalk. We decided to take a look. From the vehicle, we couldn't see much, and decided to go further along the River to Bellvue Park which is still in the city.

Yes, the water is high. Probably the highest since the mid 80s. The water has reached higher than the usual large stone blocks that line the river at the park.

Forgive my terrible horizon line. I was trying to line up the arm.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190827_152922small_zpskneniwtw.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190827_152922small_zpskneniwtw.jpg.html)

We walked a little down the pathway in the park and spied a goose of a different mother from the usual Canada geese that we get plenty of. I recalled that his bird is a bit special as I had read about him a week ago. Here is the article....

https://www.saultstar.com/news/local-news/solo-goose-calls-sault-home

So I was a bit surprised to see him sill here right in front of me. I took a few crappy cell phone photos of him.

Afterwards, we ended up at the Golden Dragon for a good Chinese meal, and a better photo of the watch.

Day 77.

Got a Nixon on tap for today. Very comfortable watch...but the bracelet is made from very soft suede leather that has the tendency to absorb water like it is nobody's business.

Day 78.

I bought this cheap Skechers watch at Walmart. It was rather attractive in that it also had an LED function. It is their Lawndale model. However, the super cheap silicon bracelet broke as there wasn't enough meat around one of the pins. It tore rather easily. I replaced the bracelet with a Leatherman Tread after buying an aftermarket adapter.

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190829_080905small_zpsotfqfgru.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190829_080905small_zpsotfqfgru.jpg.html)

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190829_115214small_zpsyp1siauw.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190829_115214small_zpsyp1siauw.jpg.html)

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190829_115220small_zpsowf5cuqd.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190829_115220small_zpsowf5cuqd.jpg.html)

The Lawndale is a fairly large watch in need of a replacement bracelet. It is dark, and contrast nicely with the stainless steel of the Tread. They kinda look nice together. I did have to remove 4 links to fit it to my wrist. In these photos, the minute and hour hands look like they would be very hard to see, however, in actual use, they shiney metal hands contrast easily against the darker watch face. No lume...but then, with a press of a pusher, the central LED lights up nicely.

Day 80.

Wow...another banner moment. I have worn 79 different watches to get here...and my journey has take the same amount of days. Today, a Fossil The Minimalist gold tone watch.

Here I am having a good breakfast at a place called :The Cup and Cone in the Market Square Mall in the Sault. They make really good breakfasts for a very nice price. Appears to be very popular with the older crowd. Surprised I don't see any younger folks frequenting this restaurant however. Funny how that goes.

Day 84.

Today, I wore another G-Shock, a GA100LG-8A. I bought this because I liked the "Ice Gray" colour.

Here I am at work once again. Back in the same classroom as last June. Quite happy that I am teaching my 3 courses in the same room and not sharing it with another teacher for that 4th period.  :woohoo:

(https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo006/20190904_091223small_zpstwyyygva.jpg) (https://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo006/20190904_091223small_zpstwyyygva.jpg.html)

There are a lot of things I like about this watch. I much prefer the easier to read positive LCD display compared to the negative display on my GA700 in red.

Day 86.

Today, a survival watch. Para-cord bracelet. Inside one side is a rubber tube that contains a fishing kit. The buckle contains a button compass, a whistle, and a fire starter. On the other bracelet side, a thermometer.

A Casio MDV106-1A Marlin Diving watch. I think one of the best values in the watch world. You get a nice quality 20 Bar diver for way under a hundred.

Day 90.

Another landmark day. Hard to believe I started this back in mid June...90 days ago. Yikes.

Anyhow, today, a Tevise automatic watch. This one is a bit hard to get a good photo of because the glass is very domed. However, that also causes a neat affect when you are looking at the watch from any angle. I changed the bracelet for a black mesh job that fits the watch nicely.

Here I am entering the Station Mall.

Day 96.

An M.T.O member sold a limited number of watches that he had made a while back. I bought one of them and have never regretted it despite moisture entering the watch somehow. Never got the watch remotely wet. I have noted that the issue is getting worse with time (the fogging on the inside of the crystal). I am thinking I may have to take this sweet looking automatic to a local Jewelers to see if they can do anything for it. What I do know, is that the moisture is really bugging me, and wearing the watch for a full day only exasperate that notion.

Here I am on my break before the cafeteria gets full of students.

That it is.

I just did a count. I have 5 more automatics to go through and possibly 2 to 3 smart watches. I sent off a Citizen Skyhawk back on July 17 to get a battery change and still have not heard anything as of yet. I talked to the jewelry shop a few times now and they have nothing to tell me. Talk about frustrating. All I know...I will never buy an Eco-Drive again if I can help it.
