Mine are definitely not up to the standards posted above so if you have any ideas, suggestions I would be very appreciative.
Thanks, John.

Nice one Butch !
SteveC:
I use linux and have lots of choices including GIMP however have not used them very much. I could also use the canon software under windows 7 but have not looked at that at all.
Thanks,
John.

I like the photo, but judging by your other pics I think you could have done better. The DOF is slightly off, e.g. the toothpick isn´t sharp. I would also try to avoid any reflections in the scale.
Thanks V, you've been posting some good stuff!
Take some time and play around with it a bit. I try to stay away from the preset filters and manually adjust light, color , contrast etc.
More great pics :salute: :like:

I like to use the highest resolution possible. I use imgur for my pictures on the forum and use their resizing option [Large Thumbnail] to bring it down to size for the forum. The forum software automatically resizes but if someone quotes your pic it will show full size which is not good for viewing plus it screws up the whole page you are viewing. If you use the attachment feature it has to be a under a certain size to upload.
More great photos, Steve and Vadim.
I now have an imgur account and have successfully posted a photo on a different thread. This one has no background to speak of but it's partly to see if I can post the photo successfully and partly to highlight a very abused leatherman.

Looks like it worked. Now to get creative with my backgrounds :)

You can change the resolution in your camera settings.Your pic is still huge when clicked on you should resize before attaching the pic.

Yeah, but then I'll have lower quality pics... seems like I can resize the hi-res pic.
