I've never tried it as a glass breaker, but if I wanted to I suspect it might perform better if the end profile was modified to be a similar angle to be more like other glass breakers ie a less acute angle

how though? in comparison to an awl what other uses does it have (aside working as a window punch)?

and even as a window punch, I feel like getting to the tool in an emergency situation might be long, but none the less a good back up.

I think the point was that it might not be a very good window punch at all since the steel is to soft, hence the comment about a carbide tip. I'm not sure you'd be able to punch say a car window out with it, it takes a lot of force if you don't get a crack started with something harder than glass. I think that its uses are simply to make holes in C4 for detonators. Sure, you can use it as a marlin spike but it's not going to be very optimised for anything except rigging C4.

I've never understood the fascination with the EOD tools. I get it that EOD-people are really well equipped and that one might want "what the cool guys use" but most of the tools on the market are not issued anyway so there's no guarantee of quality there. The fact is that most of us will never ever have any use for these extremely speSmurfpillsed tools (thankfully!). We'll just sit there with an unused C4-spike and pliers where the strength has been compromised by the cap crimper.

youre probably right.  Sog also advertises the spike as a glass breaker but now that im thinking about it, i really wont need it. i have other rescue tools that will do and have done the job.

As I said it would also take too long to get too, but i appreciate the answers. you guys definitely helped clear things up

Agreed. I use mine as a suboptimal marlin spike, but only because I had nothing better to stick in my BO powerlock when I ordered it.
