Tool Talk => Cheap and Cheerful (or otherwise!) => Topic started by: Valkie on October 24, 2018, 10:51:22 PM

I picked up this little beauty yesterday.
I couldn't leave it, it was so pathetic
You would never dare use it for anything except an example of the worst kind of knockoff possible
The blades and tools appear to be all chromed mild steel.
It is so difficult to access the blades that I chipped my nails getting them out.
the corkscrew is soooo thin I doubt that it would even function
the scissors are about 1/3 the thickness of Victornox scissors, so thin in fact, that the spring cant hold contact, so they dont work.
I wouldn't even try the can opener, but the bottle opener might work.
The saw while it has a serrated edge is so blunt that you could saw your wrist for a week and not even get a rash
I think the awl, if that's what its supposed to be, is blunt and just a pressed component.
The file, well, speaks for itself
I laughed myself silly on this "tool?"
its about as functional as a politician at xmas break.
Enjoy

Is that last pic a comparison with a 111mm?

Its the exact same knife.
Who would have thought there would be two of them??????? :ahhh
I'm keeping mine as a curiosity.
As a tradesman, I have to believe that the spirits of toolmaking will punish the manufacturers of this piece of junk. :twak:
They will burn in the forges of hell for all eternity.
Ill bet there are even worse examples out there.

Yeah, didn't have my Climber with me at the time.
But it would not have mattered much, as seen in the video.
Its not quality

That is probably to a real multi tool the equivalent of joss paper to real money
-
Yep. Had one. Dollar Tree used to sell them in 2007 or '08. Complete garbage. Everything bent so easily, and was so thin, it had to have been made out of pot metal.

Don’t insult pots! :twak:
They’re trying their best.
:D

I'm on a mission.
I'm going to try and find a worse tool than this one.
Look out world, here I come :gimme: :gimme: :gimme:

What a waste of resources! :ahhh

I see those in plastic jars in some 'mom & pop' hardware stores for $3 each. I wouldn't get one if it came with $3.
With so many standards in tool-making world-wide, the producers of those things should be punished and held responsible for all injuries related to the failures the "tool" has certainly had.

The same could be said about certain kinds of vehicles.

Looks a lot like the infamous ChinaChamp...
-
Wow that is really bad :o
Almost shockingly bad
As they mention in the video, it almost looks like a kids toy or I would even say, it looks like a prop made for like a movie or for a show....or even a very early faze prototype of a swiss army knife.
To make matters worse, someone both in China and America who was/is in charge of R&D, Quality Assurance and in charge of the company, looked at that thing and approved as a final product to push out and on to the market.....like at least act like you care about your products and customers and the fact that you are even charging people money for something that is literally unusable....literally unusable!

this is the SAK version of the (new) Schrade Tough Tool.
Heavy, pot steel, poor fittings, and mostly useless implements :D
-
Well. In defense of the new TT with the junk-CAK. It does actually turn screws without bending with 2lbs of force.
-
Got my eye on this little beauty.
I recon at this price it will have to be high quality.
What do ya recon?
-
I'm tempted to order one and video myself beating the hell out of it for fun. >:D

:o The pic looks like a real SwissChamp (with original tool ticknesses etc.). Imagine forking out a tenner and not receiving one

Imagine forking out a tenner and receiving a genuine Swisschamp...

If only. :dd:

That is how this works... too many people hoping to win the lottery.
And don't hope for Ebay or PayPal to actually protect you. A German news team ordered several Graphic cards from China, all of them fakes.
Article (in German) (https://www.heise.de/ct/ausgabe/2018-22-Massenhaft-gefaelschte-Grafikkarten-bei-eBay-4185432.html)
In short
- They wanted proof from a professional hardware speSmurfpillst that the graphics card are actually fakes (pictures obviously proofing that were not accepted)
- They also demanded return sending with tracking at the customers cost.
Refusal basically means that its settled for ebay/paypal because the vendor offered a solution but the customer declined it.
Only when the news-team contacted the ebya/paypal press/PR section did things move and they got some money back.
What is the most infuriating about that is that, despite proofing deceit, there are no consequences to the vendors (not even the particular product offering was removed)
-
for $10.00 I think Ill order one and see it it IS the worst tool ever.
Cheers

I'm looking forward to reading about it, Valkie!
I got this one out a tool box today. It is really really really bad. But, the wood saw actually has slightly sharpened teeth. 3/8" wobble in the pivots.
My next day off (Sunday), I'll be trying it out against a SAK. :o
Pictured with a silvertech scaled Explorer for size reference.

Oh... the flimsiness... the frailty...
-
Thinner tools=more tools=BETTER!
Right?

AND....AND....soft steel=tools bend to reach in tight places=just buy a new one. :)

And then watch it explode. I had one of these as a kid--and it did that. Whittling damaged a pin, I guess. Granddad bought a bunch just like that for gifts to family members years before, and this was a spare I got when I started collecting knives. Really, my great-grandfather on my grandmother's side had common sense, and for users chose many of the same brands I do--Victorinox, Buck, Imperial, Schrade, and Queen. What cheap brands he had (i.e Sharp) were of good quality.
-
Well. I didn't get to try out the CAK today. My radiator decided, after 16 years(Ive had it for 10 of those), the hose inlet would break off. I ordered a new radiator, but have to spend all day tomorrow putting it in.
-
Bummer... good luck :tu:
-
:iagree:
-
Use the CAK for those repairs... ?
That'll be a good test

Best review I've ever watched. Completely accurate. I won't be wasting my money on the Victorinox anymore when I can have the CAK quality materials and sharpness. :woohoo:
Thanks for posting that, RP!

OOOOOOooooo KKKKKKkkkkkkk
I get the distinct impression that the author of that review was being somewhat sarcastic.
I cannot understand why, it was obviously a well engineered and beautifully crafted tool.
And having a go at the less than sharp edges, it was obviously manufactured that way for safety's sake.
Sharp implements in the hands of some people is just asking for trouble.
The emergency detachment of the scales is a new innovation, obviously.
I can see several reasons for this, to slim down the tool, to reduce static electricity, to allow the scale to be used as a fire starter etc etc.
And the flexible corkscrew, obviously important to assist in the reduction of alcohol intake.
Yes, Obviously a well made tool for its purpose, it should not have been maligned as it was. :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok:

SAKs are too sharp and too strong for normal people. I can't tell you how many times I wished that what I was cutting would require several minutes of hacking and sawing to get the job done. And my favorite party trick is to make a corkscrew disappear into a cork and never be seen again.

Personally, if a saw isn’t blunt enough to use as a fish scaler, it’s a smurfy saw >:(

:iagree:
My favorite part is the fact that call those things "saws", and secretly, they are fish scalers. Something akin to a Cracker-Jack prize. SAKs don't have any fun surprises. Who wants a wood saw that saws? :D
