Show off your tool storage, be it boxes, bags, buckets, etc....
But what I really want to see is metal boxes
Here’s my main one :tu:

The only metal boxes I’ve had are those red craftsman ones with the draws, one with three and another with four, after those being to heavy to carry around came the bucket or bag, but twice now the bags just rip so easy, but I still have one holding a few tools in the basement..

Can we post plastic tool boxes too, or is it only the metal ones you want to see?

At some point I want to try out a bucket with one of the pouches :tu:
I like the idea
I love them,
first off, a buckets like $3 and weighs nothing,
Second, the pouch that goes in and around cost like $9-20, and again weighs nothing,
And third, work great, easy to carry, get the soft carry grip, and get the lid to make it a seat!
Unlike a cheap toolbox is like at least $50 and weighs over 15-20lbs..
JR
-
Plus you can keep stuff thats normally too big in the bucket (power tools, large breaker bars, etc...) :tu:
-
Exactly!

I am currently in the stage of moving, but here’s one of my toolboxes, currently just sitting in my office.
A plastic-fantastic toolbox from a brand called Tactix, which is a cheap end brand, but the stuff I have had from it has actually went surprisingly good.
I bought it when I was living in Ireland, at their version of “Home Depot” called “Woodies”.
Surprisingly enough, all the hinges and carry handle are made of metal.
I bought it on sale for around €20, I think I got a good deal, especially as I have no complaints about it at all.
It has this really neat system, with two assortment boxes on each side, which is actually really handy as you can take the boxes off and bring with you to where you are working on something, you don’t have to bring the whole toolbox or constantly go back and forth between what you are working on and the toolbox, you can just bring one of the assortment boxes.
I found this particularly hard when I was working in a tight space or a place that was awkwardly get to.

This is one of my favorite Metal boxes.
Snap-On calls it an Ignition Box and it fits in the top of a Snap-On top box that I have but is buried right now so no pics yet of that one or them together!
The box holds a pretty amazing number of tools and the top tray is on slides and just slides rearward to expose the bottom layer.
I think I have had this one for forty years maybe from back when I installed/serviced car stereo and CBs in the 70's! Ha!
There were certainly no computers in the cars back then. :drink:
Can anyone guess or remember what the first tool on the bottom left is?
The one with the Walnut Handle.

Here is a set of wooden boxes that I built from plans in Woodworker Magazine I think?
The boxes are made from 1x everywhere except the bottoms which are plywood and they stack together by design as you can see from the last pic!
The fronts flip open so that you don't need to unstack them to use them, genius design!
The top box has a slide out tray and tool holders in it too and the 4th box of the set is in Witness Protection as of this writing.
These are really great for taking things out to the truck and shop and are pretty light weight too for as much as they can be stuffed.
I do love me some Tool Boxes! :climber: :drink: :twak: :woohoo:

In the old days here in the UK all the Chippys used to carry their tools about in one of these
There is normally a drawer or two at the top (missing in mine) and often they had their saws attached inside the fold down door

I picked this one up on Friday Afternoon and have been trying to get it going for Monday calls.
This thing actually does hold an INSANE number of tools as was advertised!
I am always trying to get the most streamlined bag that I can take with me on the road so I can take the most tools in the least space and this seems to set a new Benchmark so far in that way,now the only question is whether I can actually carry it too?
I have promised myself to never buy another bag that does not close up again and this one does have a pull away velcro closed lid!
There are also 3 full width pockets that you can not really see in these pics including one that is padded and zippered!
I am hopeful.
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190211/4bc11453aae4fd4775ec136b8ad89433.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190211/916f2834b278006829691a5f4761d5d0.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190211/b953e23f091722580299f45d57e9c36d.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190211/63bc6496ecca598e765deb3f19dce275.jpg)
Everything that was in this bag which was pretty ful and an additional bunch of tools fits into the new bag which ends up being a fraction of the size of just this bag too!
Just too much Fabric in the way.

Hardly, just a lot more boxes than I need.
I am not sure I have carried a Metal Box since switching to lightweight and flexible soft sided bags really?
Especially right now they would freeze to my hands in the morning......oh the pain. :ahhh
So the Hobby box has been waiting to be cleaned out for 20 years at least but I did toy with the notion of carrying the Kennedy again within the last year or so.
Thats why it is so clean. >:D

My tool collection is a mix of “US & Canada market only” tool brands, “UK & Ireland market only” tool brands, and even some “German market only” tool brands, with different other more widely known brands too of course.

I think I will try to light a fire under this thread again if I can!
So Today I had to repair several Mic cables and since I already had the Soldering Box out I figure I might as well stick it on here too!
This is a Workmate Tool Box which is an actual Workmate lid that does Workmate things and hinges over a box with a try. Pretty Handy really.
I keep a Temperature Controlled Soldering station in it as well as a Dremel adjustable vice with dual Alligater Clip Hands attached to it,crazy huh?!?!
So I can put this thing on a floor or table or desk or any handy surface and make an all day soldering party if I need to and I do need to fairly often.
The Vice contraption has a 1x2 on the bottom so it can't move on the box top and I have the Dogs for the Workmate in there too in case I need to clamp anything else down and perform surgery on it.
I Loves me some Workmate!

I think I have maybe half a dozen of the full sized versions that fold up and there are a few different styles of those too.
They are crazy sturdy as a portable workbench or just the base of a larger one and the clamping action is also insanely strong in my experience.
I actually also have one smaller than that box where it is just the top part by itself and that can really come in handy too.

Same, I used to work for Lowe’s and somehow didn’t buy one! But a few years ago I really needed something and spotted this one online, someone was selling it and I was like I’m in a whole other state and can’t pick it up, so they were like the price doesn’t include shipping, but I’ll ship it if your willing to pay for the price, and well, I did.. I posted it back in the day,

Thanks I like it!
I am a little surprised that it still lives too.
I have had it maybe 35 years and it is plastic but they just do not make much like they used to so theres that!
I can not get enough parts organization and man do I try all the time.

So true, they don’t make anything like the used to, except food, especially Italian!

This is the Kobalt 3 drawer I originally bought for part of my collection, but I moved the collection into a cabinet. Now it's used as intended. Tool marks on the lid were from when I locked it with a cheap lock, the key broke in the lock, and I had to cut it off. I'm still consolidating stuff from various places, and removing heavily worn and damaged tools.
Lid. Hammers (Vaughan 20 oz. framing hammer, unknown ball peen, Pittsburgh 2 lb. dead blow, and a couple others), Vaughan pry bar, and a ton of assorted files and other stuff (and yes, those scissors are kids' school scissors, I've had them since I was 8, soon to be replaced by trauma shears). Mora is the wood chisel.
First drawer. Handmedown S&K Metric 1/4 drive sets, precision screwdrivers (in metal box next to the S&K set Allen (actually made by them) keys, and assorted cheap screwdrivers. I'll soon add the 3/8 drive Craftsman set I built to it and get rid of most of the cheap bit drivers that fill the space. As well, I will put the 1/4 SAE set with the metric one. I use that set a lot for hobbies, and it stays upstairs.
Second drawer. Again, mostly filler.Right now is a Williams 10" adjustable wrench, Padhacksaw (old British made tool, it's got a spring that allows it to reciprocate, but it's dangerous if you're not paying attention--it will pinch you bad!) assorted small pry tools, electrical tape, and a pipe wrench. The Williams wrench was something the power company lost and didn't claim while working on the lines near the house. They're the ones that painted it yellow, according to my granddad.
Third drawer is a ton of pliers. For sure, that's staying as-is.

Great organization, cody :tu: I need to go through some of my stuff in the garage one of these days and attempt to organize better  I have some of it fair but like my father it is scattered everywhere when I use it :ahhh then I don't always put it back very well ::)

Here are a couple more that I pulled from the spares shelf just waiting to be loaded up and thrashed around some more!
This is a classic Bell System Box and I have reconstructed it already a few times as the plastic cracks and the corners fall apart usually. They still make a box that looks like these but as usual they are really not as nice as even this almost worn out specimen either?
Before 9/11 I used tho carry this on the plane too but that ship has long since sailed for good.

This one is an older Pelican Case that has been modded for EMS use and is perfect for Technician use too.
I stuff this one once and a while still and it travels pretty well as do all Pelican Cases that I have used.
All Pelican Cases can be the perfect platform for a tool box I think.
I used to carry this on a plane as well.

The tool bag I keep in my room to handle most smaller tasks. There's some cheap low-end junk in here, but it will be replaced soon. I bought the bag for $5 in the cheap tool bin at the local Advance Auto Parts. So far, it's held up pretty darned well. My name's written on the outside, and for many of the tools inside, my great-grandfather or my grandfather's name is stamped or engraved in some form on them. The rest I can easily recognize based on damage, paint spatter, etc. I've said to myself--if I see any of these tools on some flea market dealer's counter, I'm picking up the biggest one and warping that individual a new one with it.
Outside L: unmarked electrician's scissors (sold as old-stock Clauss USA), Kobalt long nose electronics pliers (indispensable in tight places) , Channellock E-318 electrician's pliers (some of my favorite general purpose pliers), Proto 226G needlenose side cutting pliers (electrical tape covers up chunk melted out of handle), Kobalt Side Cutters (will eventually be replaced by Knipex, but at least with these cheap ones, it's harder to get ticked if someone messes them up).
Outside R.
Kobalt Linesman's (I have a good Proto pair used with fence work, but the Kobalt are what I loan out), Chapman 1316 "All Purpose" set (needs some bits replaced; and the case is worn out, thus the electrical tape where it folds in half), and an Antonini (Italian made) Cable Master knife.
Inside. Didn't take anything out as it is stuffed and tough to put back. Inside is a Plierrench, Belknap claw hammer, Craftsman soft face hammer, 6" Crescent Tool USA Crescent Wrench; Craftsman USA 1/4 bit driver, tire gauge, Allen key set (Eklind), Petersen 6LN Vise Grips, several screwdrivers and few other pliers (and some other stuff)

A Kennedy machinists chest -
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190423/b7e423a5cdb6da9f01f40c3cf46f06ef.jpg) Presently used for bike cycle restoration and top side gathers what ever falls onto it until I get back to biking.

Under my work table is a Traditional Grey Craftsman, a wood square hip style box used for tube TV service. A Black attaché style tool grip.
At my Mom’s is my Dad’s Kennedy Hip box he used for his paint brushes after I modified the drawers. (At least 45 yrs old). When in college I worked for a SK, Proto, (tools), Kennedy box distributor. Plus Kennedy Mfg factory outlet store was down the road from me in Ohio.

Nice boxes LC,
I had two craftsman boxes just like that one, just one had three draws and the other had four,
I should go look in the garage, there was a simple box that had some sockets from when we bought the house, idk if it’s any good or what name?

I've been wanting a Kennedy really bad since I've started watching mrpete222. I can't find anything locally with a reasonable price or with the samll side by side drawers. I've never seen one with those kinds of pulls, if you get the chance please show the contents, nice chests by the way!!

Thank you.
I will take a picture after I convert my garage from winter duty to summer duty.
This one I found at a garage sale, paid about $80. The lady’s father was a machinist at a axle company.
I have also, spotted a box or two at Pawn shops for more money, yet older models and smaller.
I really wanted my father-n-law’s set, a three tier combo on casters, but oldest sister-n-law gave away to her dad’s coworker who offered only about 25 cents on the dollar for all his tools and cabinets. Made me sick. He had been a die and mold maker for almost 40 years.
Where are you located?

Some old tool boxes page one
#1 - #3 Keen Kutter(Shapleigh Hardware)salesman's sample case.
#4 Sherman-Klove(S & K) machinists' tool box.
-
Page two
#1 Craftsman tool box with tools circa 1940's or slightly earlier.
#2 Craftsman round top that looks like a mailbox. I have two different versions of this one.
#3 A hand made box made by the father of a good friend of mine.I lettered it to look like a box from his grandfather's sign company and gave it back to him.
#4 One of the weirdest looking boxes I have ever seen. Bought at a yard sale full of old Ford wrenches.
-
Page three
#1 Dunlap machinists' style tool box.
#2 S&K tool box.
#3 & #4 an unmarked 3 tier tool box open and closed.
-
Page four
#1 & #2 A huge Philson tackle box.
#3 & #4 an unmakred tool box that automatically opens when you lift the handle.
-
Those are some wacky definitely cool toolbox’s!
JR
-
Page five
#1 An old Craftsman machinists' box made by Kennedy. The difference between the Kennedy and the Craftsman is the positioning of the lock bars that engage when the top is closed. One is spaced closer together than the other. I found this out while trying to interchange the front covers.
#2 An old Kennedy machinists' box.
#3 A Kennedy carpenter's tool box.The widest one I've ever seen(32 inches).
#4 Another old Kennedy machinists' box.The real early boxes had non-removeable drawers. Later models could be removed by pushing aside the lock tabs on the slides.
-
Page six Two really small Kennedy boxes;only 13 inches wide. The second one has a bronze ID tag rather than the usual decal.Probably from the 1930's.It only has two trays while the later model has three.
-
Page seven
#1 is a box full of Duro tools I bought for $10. Took two of us to lift it into the back of my car!
#2 is a box I bought from a friend. It belonged to his grandfather.Painted on the inside of the lid was the message:" Homeward bound! May 30th 1918". Headed home from the Great War!
#3 & #4 an old tool box that was given to me by someone I was painting a car for. No maker's name but I love the ghostly images of the tools in the drawer!
-
Holy crap, how man do you have?
Hey that one carpenters box, does it have a slot that can be punched out on the top since a square won’t fit in?

Tool pail/caddy made by me. Stainless TIG welded with dividers to keep my hand tools organized. Whipped the handle with paracord for a comfy grip. It is all stickered up now but is at work so no current pictures, just ones from when I built it. I used to use a steel pail I pimped out but the bottom was getting thin from sliding on concrete and it was getting pretty bashed.

Nice one! I know what you mean about sliding on concrete.I had a great D-Flite sign painter's kit that I got as partial payment for teaching a seminar at an art school and the corners of the box(reinforcements actually riveted on)fell off after the rivets holding them on were ground away by sliding it across concrete floors.I finally started using a lighter box so I didn't have to slide it all the time.

I thought about welding some tabs to the bottom as sacrificial metal to the one I made. Just weld new ones on when they get thin to save the pail itself. But it is heavy enough already as I made it out of 18ga stainless. Lol.
