Post by: jaya_man on January 18, 2018, 07:05:42 AM
Chanced upon this video... CRKT’s upcoming offerings for 2018... Looks like we’ll see more field strip technology on their knives...

I love the HVAS. I did not like the design of the Homefront, but love the idea of a field-strip-able knife (not that I have use for that, still, its awesome).

I like the look of the Cuatro and HVAS. :tu:  And the Batum and Amicus models too, but they're not new.

JMO........but I think CRKT is one of the starter brands......marketing, price, who knows......

I know I quickly moved on from them.......

I played with a Homefront in the shop, I was full expecting to hate it and I didn't  :salute:

I don't know if I would refer to them as a starter brand or not.  Yes, they have some inexpensive models that may seem like toys compared to Spyderco or Benchmade, but that's not typical of the entire line.  The M-16/M-21 series are tough as anything else I've encountered, and I have had an M16-12 since the earliest days, even before they put flippers on them.

I've never babied that knife and it still looks (and functions!) amazing, even now.

I haven't handled too many of their bigger fixed blades, but I can honestly say that there are few better knives out there than the Neckolas if you want something you can abuse the living crap out of and keep using.

I've had this one for quite a few years and it has been on many water related activities like kayaking and snorkeling, and honestly those little spots could be rubbed out with a couple of minutes worth of effort.

CRKT markets toward guys in the military who don't have a ton of cash (beer is often the priority) and potential  limited military contracts. Smart move.

The M14/M16 series is a long standing, time-proven design that is quite loved in the knife community and was the "first decent folder" for many, many knife nuts.
It's a classic as is the Leek, Griptilian, Gator or Delica IMO and in most forums that seems to be the consensus.
They take a beating and come back for more, it's frequent to see them chipped, dented, scratched and worn out by their users, especially those that brought them to Afghanistan or other military deployments   :tu:

My perception might be warped by what is locally available.......but on that same list is Kershaw, Cold Steel and Spyderco.

When my knife awareness re-awakened 3+ years ago, I lived on the CRKT and Cold Steel websites.......

I spent hours on hours just trying to decide which models of the M-16/M-21 (wanted 3) I was going to buy when I had the money.

I love my little Endorser, but until they use better steel and something other than liner locks, I'm limited to Spyderco and CS.

BTW, I have a friend with one beat up M-16, he calls it his "CRicKeT".......I do respect the knife  :salute:
