Maybe the Alox knives do not sell to well here in the USA?

Seems like if it sold as well as we liked it around here selling it here would be a no brainer.

This is not the first time a standard color of a tool or knife looks great but does not do it for me.

I think the US silver Alox with red shield would be something I had to have if it was not the regular old model.

colours do cost more than natural anodising, the price difference for these is about $1-2.

As Shark_za said somewhere else, Sharp Edge look after us fans and collectors pretty well, like the Danish importers do. They've run a fantastic shop and agency for decades. I suppose if the North American importer is more focused on mass retail sales, they won't go through the hassle of special orders for a relatively small portion of their market

I imagine local laws dont help, plus special runs means higher price tag  :-\

Shipping from South Africa via UPS for a 5 pound package with a declared value of $400.00 [9 Farmers] shipped to the east cost of United States is approximately $250.00.

I got my Cadets by swapping for Pioneers and a Farmer.
$70 for shipping uninsured, 12 knives.

Turns out DHL has changed their policy this week! no knives anymore.
Looking at other options.

I'd do it to fund the odd knife for myself if nothing else.

That was $70.00 shipping within South Africa.

So how do you plan to get them to the United States ?

That was to the USA, I got Cadets in return.

A small package used to cost $33 and could fit 5x. This is via DHL and seems to be an issue now.
Working on other couriers.

Thanks for clearing that up as it wasn't clear in your post.Since you have the flag of South Africa in your profile,it appeared you were shipping within South Africa.

If it would help, they could be sent to me and I'd be happy to send them on to recipients.

ie:

IF we had a South African who would be willing to send SAK's to me, I would be willing to pay for the group of them and having them shipped plus a reasonable fee for doing this.

THEN I would ship them to US MTO'ers who paid IN ADVANCE for their SAKs

That way, our South African would get paid lump sum to ship to one addresss and I would handle shipping to others.

EVERYTHING would have to be pre-paid, however.

I bought a €10 book from a guy SA and shipping was €25 or so... uninsured.
I bought another book from another guy, paid him €30 to cover the postage, then he gets back to me 2 months later saying it's too expensive to send... and would I like a refund (yes was my answer, and yes I am still waiting...)
Shipping from Hong Kong? Seems to cost next to nothing. Japan? $6 or so w. insurance for small items like SAKS.
South Africa? Must be the most expensive postage system in the world. Is that just corruption or what the heck is going on there? It must be a nightmare for businesses.

It's actually not that expensive if you find a teller who knows the fee scale properly. BUT things sometimes go missing, and people prefer to use courier services or go with registered and insured mail as a consequence. Outgoing mail in my experience isn't impacted but I have lost around 20% of parcels I've bought in to the country.

Actually that's quite interesting.  A few years ago, I lost probably 1/2 dozen packages coming from Amazon, just before and right at Christmas.  What was interesting is, all the lost packages were coming USPS AND had gone to Captial Heights sorting facility (not all USPS packages from Amazon go to Capital Heights).  Amazon just replaced them.  I finally called their customer service and told them what I had noticed.

A couple months later, nearly all my Amazon shipments come UPS select (ie UPS does the shipping and delivers it to the local USPS for final delivery to me).  No lost packages since then.

My suspicion:  Somebody (or group of somebodies) puts packages into a nook/closet/holding bin.  If someone complains, they "magically" find it and send it on.  If there are no complaints for a few weeks, the packages are "disposed" of.  Just my suspicion.

Necro blah blah.

My mom is coming from Wiltshire to Durban to visit me on the 22nd.

I dont know what colours we have here that are of interest but by putting them in her luggage for you guys we can probably get some coloured Alox back into the UK pretty cheap.

I have posted seperately in the trade section for things I am looking for in uk.

Mods I hope this is not in the wrong place. I figure it is harmless enough as I am not looking to make a buck here, just help get some members some cheap shiny things at cost!

If there is any interest guys let me know.

Ok.

I have a huge box of bubble wrap envelopes sitting in UK and will post within the UK (royalmail 1st class tracked). Price to follow.

There are delivery charges locally in South Africa but these should be relatively low if we do about 15 knives. There also may be PayPal fees.

Exchange rate is approx 19, something to 1 - rand to pound so divide by 20 to get a rough pound price. We can work it out accurately at the time.

She will not be bringing anything else back with her so they should be duty free.

Anyone that wants stuff and is outside the UK please find a UK member to forward to you.

Mom is in her late 60s and will get stressed at the idea of international post ( been down that road before).

15 pieces in total. First come first serve.

A lot of the good stuff can be found on sharp edge sharp shooter, iwarehouse and bidorbuy. I can get from any of those easily (or actually any other vendor).

Find the items and I will place the orders when all slots are filled to keep delivery low.

She will be returning to UK on approx 22 September.

Shark is a lot more clued up than I am so may be better positioned to find elusive colours etc.

Bryan

The coloured farmers seem to be finished. It looks like it might be just pioneers and solos. I will see what I can scrounge up on the web and make a few calls to shops etc.

I will probably order at month end because I am getting a little nervous that pioneer and solo colours might start to vanish too. On a positive note delivery is free in South Africa with Sharp edge if the order is more than 500. So there should be no transport cost at all.

On a separate issue there is a South African Pioneer (the NATO one) that I can possibly get hold of too. I already have one. I am happy to try and pick this up speculatively and pass it to someone over there later at cost or swop and as with the Sharp edge stuff everything will be transparent as I will be able to demonstrate what I paid. What is one of those worth in Europe? Just so I don't burn my fingers? Seems a shame to let it go when there is this opportunity for one of you aloxoholics to add it to your collection.

As I understand it these were all limited run colours for the South African market when they were first produced. Whether they are available now in other markets I have no way of knowing. If you visit the Sakwiki page for the Solo it lists all the Solo codes above as special run.

If you're in Joburg, try going to Sharp Edge in Sandton City- they might have stock in the shop even though there's none online. Also, if you buy enough you might get a bit of a discount

Strange that you say that I was thinking about checking their physical stock today.

Thanks. I will call them in the morning.

I've been monitoring this thread with great interest.

I would like to buy several of these Alox models.I'm waiting to see what is available to determine what I may buy.

Good luck gentlemen.

Received a Solo and Classic from Voetsak over the weekend - just a black one of each, probably destined for some light hacking - big :tu: from me.
