I've been doing a lot of fishing this year ( thankfully ). Anyone else getting out there and wetting a line? I'm lucky in that I'm less than an hour from four or five nice lakes plus there is a ton of local streams and ponds that hold fish.
I need to get my fly rod out more though. I just never seem to think about grabbing it as I'm heading out. ???
-
I love to go fishing. I have been fishing since I was 3 and I love every minute of it. We have a 22 ft Mako center console fishing boat that we go out on at least twice a week. The target fish is striped bass. I also go freshwater fishing a lot too. Hell, I caught a MONSTER largemouth today on surface plugs!
-
Not me. :( Its been a busy summer, but I'm hoping to get out on the Big Lake next week for some king salmon. 8)

Aww man!! I saw the title and thought "Cool!! Something thinner and more high tech then fishing line!!"
-
Wish someone would take me fishing :(

Man I haven't been fishing in years :( Me and my Grandpa use to go quite a bit when I was younger  I do miss that quite a bit sometimes :-\ Maybe when my little girl gets a little older I will take her some :tu:

I fly fished for years, brown trout. Rivers mostly and I loved it. Since moving to Norfolk where there is no fly fishing worth talking about, I've done a fair bit of pike fishing. Hope to be doing some this winter. It's all about relaxing and getting away from the phone :)

Fishing is a blast! Half of the city i live in is water, with most parts of the city being almost completely surrounded by lakes with plenty of common shore to fish from, so i get to go at a moments notice, even when my dad is using the boat for a tourney. And then when winter comes and there is 2 to 4 feet of ice on the lake...there's not many things better than pulling slab sunnies and crappies and large Northerns up through a hole in the ice. Bow-fishing for huge Carp when its hot out, or casting huge foot-long cranks, bucktail spinners, and Zara Spooks for Muskies. Or watching your topwater get completely dominated, knocked around and finally devoured. Even the thrill of hooking a fish that feels like the biggest fish of the day, a monster, but then when you get it in it's just the 1st smallmouth of the day and isn't even over 3 pounds (they are truly mean!). Or just throwing leach on a slip bobber and catching a few keeper walleyes. Getting up at the crack of dawn and breaking the water which looks exactly like glass, or reeling in a catfish at midnight. Carrying an 80 pound canoe, and a months worth of gear on your back for a mile or more (usually several separate times) on a trial no more than a foot wide, preceding to your spot only to see a moose, deer, bear, or some other sweet wildlife bathing with in a cast from you, or watching the sunset behind sky scrapers in a major metropolitan area as you are just slaying the fish (or not slaying, cuz in the end it really doesn't matter... you where there, in-line and on time) Yep, anyway you slice it, fishing is great. (Yes i enjoy fishing)

Sigh, looks beautiful GM :)

Lovely bit of water there mate :tu:

Looks like a great fishing trip. I love fishing but haven't gone much since we had kids. They are now at an age where I think I will start again in spring.
-
I'm pathetic. I live in the Ozarks. A hunters and fishermans dream and I haven't hunted or fished in years. Unless you count beer hunting. But even then I've slowed down tremendously.

A quiet place to fish and relax :D

Now that does look peaceful :tu:

Chances to fish are few and far between these days. Being there is enough, don't really care if I catch!
-
Looks like someplace out of a dream MB.
Is that fish a pike?

Sure does :) I'm not one for crowds and it's really hard to find places like this.

Not as nice a spot as MB's, but here's a pic from yesterday's fishin' expedition out on the Big Lake. My youngest and I landed a couple of nice king salmon. :)
(guess who thinks fish are slimey and smelly) ::)

Nice pike Magic Bus :tu:
I'm going on a 6 mile canoe trip with a buddy of mine tomorrow. Smallmouth fishing one of the local rivers. Should be fun. I'll try and remember to take the camera and snap a couple of pics.

According to KS law, when you turn 65,you don't need a hunting or fishing license, and I still haven't got my line wet this year,my grandson is old enough to start,so I need to get my butt in gear.
Nice salmon Bob. :salute:
-
Thanks Eddie, thanks Chief! We did indeed cook it up the next day. My specialty, king salmon on the barbeque grill with lemon and mesquite seasoning. The whole thing was gone in a matter of minutes!
Man, I gotta go catch another one! :D

Biggest I've caught, no lake or ocean here so really nothing big.

My fishing partner doesn't live here anymore thou so haven't been fishing for a long time now. :(

Pike supposedly get big up in Canada- but where I live we don't even have pike.
Most of my fishing is for trout and reds on the coast, and in the about 7 years i've fished in Estes Flats, my biggest trout is a measly 23" and my largest redfish is a more pathetic 24". I've caught a few big fish before, but somehow, all of them are fish we rarely ever fish for, or were caught on accident. Except for the few 34" black drum I caught when I was little. I caught a few 4'+ kingfish a couple years ago, one of them possibly 5'. I caught an 8 1/2 lb red snapper a few weeks ago, and some large mangrove snapper. A stringer full of 18"+ trout in colorado, and dad cuahgt one of the biggest mullet I've ever seen on a shrimp! a shrimp! their mouths aren't even big enough to fit a shrimp in it! My greatest fishing acheivement would be that 36" jack I caught on 12# test.
-
Pike is everywhere here, they love to bite too. I heard up north in remote lakes, they get HUGE, but you need a plane to reach those because there's no road.
-
yeah, i've seen pictures of some MONSTER pike taken from Canada lakes, some well over 3 feet long.
-
I can attest to monster sized Pike in remote northern Canada areas. I lived in northern Manitoba most of my life, and man, 3 feet could be a daily occurrence with those fish. I was once swimming off the back of the boat, and one of the fish on the live lines we had dragging behind managed to take a chunk out of me, and gash me with its fins. Nasty buggers. Can't eat them though, so I never tried catching any.
-
WHAT?!?!?!? Pike are delicious! you just have to get the bones out :D
-
Not when they get big! Any fish gets that big is going to taste like overcooked beef.
But bass and walleye are better than pike anyway.
-
not down here they don't. Of course, they're more likely to have parasites if they are older, especially drum. The really big fish often has meat that loses its flavor faster, though. If you don't drain kingfish when you catch them, they get tasteless and dense.
Bass are not supposed to be good eating fish- but then, down here we consider Snook to be a pure sportfish, while in Florida they're a delicacy.
-
The family and I went camping this weekend on a 95 acre lake. I
did a little fishing, got a couple good strikes and caught one little bass.
A picture of the lake and the fish.
