Title: Swiss Bianco G10 and Ti scales
Post by: Brock O Lee on February 24, 2019, 12:37:39 PM: I am an alox guy, and normally steer clear of the custom and limited edition models. I find a SAK to be most useful when you can use it freely without concerns about damage or loss or cost.

But... When I saw the G10 and smooth Ti scales from Swiss Bianco I figured I would give them a shot to see what the fuzz was about. I bough a Climber and a Spartan as donors.

The G10 scales were easy, but I had to redo the ti ones 3 times. The back side scale refused to stick on the bottom where the two slots are, as the liner was slightly warped. I eventually had to rough up the aluminium liner and used more epoxy on the liner surface than what was recommended. I also had to sand down the toothpick to reduce the wedging and fit into the slot better. All good after that.

One drawback about epoxy on the rivets (the recommenced procedure) is that it can reduce the snap of the tools. The G10 one is fine with good snap, but the Ti one lost most snap on the backside tools. Unfortunately you will only discover this after the epoxy had cured. It’s not a huge deal, but something I did not expect to be an issue.

All in all I feel these are a good upgrade. I will see how they hold up to use. They give these humble SAKs a bit of a premium feel, which is not a bad thing.

Post by: Rapidray on February 24, 2019, 02:18:59 PM: I am a big fan of G10 scales and bought a donor Outdoorsman for mine. Like you, the G10 snapped in fairly well by themselves with no epoxy needed. The other side scale just needed to be tapped in a little on one pin, no biggie!

Post by: Brock O Lee on February 24, 2019, 09:52:36 PM: I had to epoxy both sets. The G10 took the adhesive well the first time. I got the Ti one to stick properly after 3 days (24h cure each time).

The G10 will probably be more resilient in the long run, but I also like satin Ti, which can easily be retored to new with a green Scotch-bright pad.

Post by: Etherealicer on February 25, 2019, 04:03:32 PM: I have put some SB Ti scales on my CyberTool... no epoxy needed, the fit was close to perfect all it took was a gentle tap with a hammer.
