Great news everyone! I can virtually assure us all that Victorinox will shortly release a new Voyageur re-issue, having finally broke down and bought one recently. I have wanted one of these knives forever, and took a roundabout path to getting one.
First, I had Syph build me a 93 mm Super Voyageur, which was the subject of my first post on this fine forum way back in 2015. (Those pictures were hosted by Photobucket, so the links don't work anymore, unfortunately, but here are some fresh ones.) I love this knife and carry it every day. However, it is a little bit bigger and heavier than I really like to carry in my front pocket every day, so it lives in my EDC bag.
Here is the 93 mm Super Voyageur that Bob built:
My search for a real, super-light 84 mm Voyageur continued. Bob told me that the difficult component to obtain was scissors for an 84 mm knife. I had an 84 mm Golfer that I actually bought brand new way back in 1988 in Switzerland. I had retired the knife, so one day I realized that it could serve as a scissors donor. I reached out to Bob again and he said to send the donor knife on up. I had him use a brand new knife blade and combination tool and package it all up in orange scales so that it could never be passed off as a real, vintage Voyageur by some unscrupulous seller. Here it is:

I love everything about my orange Voyageur-alike, except the scissors have always been annoyingly loose. They work fine if you apply a little cross pressure as you are snipping, but sometimes this isn't convenient. Still, this knife is with me forever and has found a permanent location in my dresser drawer and comes in handy for all kinds of miscellaneous tasks in the upstairs of the house.
But I still hankered for the real thing. Every Voyageur I saw on eBay seemed to go for in excess of $300, and in fact there is a nice looking one listed right now for the low low BIN price of $550 USD. A few weeks ago I figured that the prices of these was never really going to get any lower, so I bit the bullet and bought one that was in almost-new, virtually-never-used condition. It came today and wow is it a beauty.

My new old Voyageur has Elinox markings and single leaf spring scissors. It lacks the key ring, which is fine by me, and its scales are the silver ribbed variety. It's in very fine shape, quite sharp, and all the tools have a nice snap to them.
So now I have this delightful trio of Voyageur VSAKs and couldn't be happier.

Kind regards,

Hey thanks, everybody!
Glenfiddich, I can't wait to see your red one! Please share as soon as it arrives.
I noticed their isn't a Voyageur Club thread -- perhaps this thread can serve as such.

Mine is the one in the picture above, although that's the sellers' picture. I will make and post some new pictures after it arrived! :salute:

I wonder if the new, weird looking, golfer models use the same pair of scissors. I might get one in that case and turn my Cadet into a Cadet PX. I tried some weeks ago to search around for a normal looking 84 mm golfer but the prices we're at collector level and not donate level sadly.
A Victorinox Cadet PX might just be the ultimate edc
~ i love whittling and SAK's ~

I'm going to buy a lot of broken/damaged 84mm SAKs with scissors soon. :D
I wonder what will be in it :dd:
Another month of waiting first...

Thank you, VicMan! And now the endless search for a classic red Voyageur begins. I just missed out on Glenfiddich's the other day (the very same knife he posted earlier in this thread). :(

I remember seeing one in London around 1989 or so. £15 (if I recall) seemed a little steep so I didn't buy it.

I have the 232kA, which was more or less a budget version with Cellidor scales and scale tools most commonly seen with an ad on it (but mine doesn't, it looks as though at some point in its life, it was serviced under warranty, as some parts, namely the scales and scissor spring don't match a late sixties knife). It predated the combo tool, but I really don't mind it having just a bottle opener/screwdriver. It's all I need around the house, while being light. Cost me ten bucks, which was really why I got it.

Nice!
Is the 232kA basically the same thing as an 84 mm Golfer, then?

Almost, but it lacks backside tools (corkscrew).

Finally! A red Voyageur. Not the most pristine example, but it'll do. I had to replace the scissors spring with a modern unit, and there's a tiny nick out of the tip of the blade, but otherwise it's in fine shape.

Thank you Glenfiddich and Reinier! I am very pleased with it.
Crackout, your Voyageur is a real beauty. Congratulations.
I have a couple projects in mind for the Christmas season for two loved ones who already have BYSAKs. So I'm thinking I'm going to mod a couple Alox Bantams I have and turn them into Voyageurs. If the project turns out well, I'll be sure and post pictures here.
Thanks again guys!

This, folks, is the saddest story of 25 years of collecting. The picture below appeared in classifieds on the net like ten years ago.
From what I gathered the seller was a relative of a deceased sales rep for Victorinox, but unfortunately 1/ he did'nt really know the value of what he had, and 2/ did not really care, and 3/ was not very cooperative.
The only solution would have been to drive 700 miles, take a hotel room and wait for the guy to be ready to spare some time and take my money.
At this time I just did not have the energy. In hindsight I think I should have.
I only scored a very small part of this Mother Lode. Whatever became of the rest is unknown to me. I lost contact.
but the good part is I was able to score this green voyageur, a very nice handful of secretaries, and a very old sales rep presentation box.
-
That's still a great catch, but in hindsight you could probably have made a good amount of money on reselling that stuff nowadays at the current prices :o

I know. Never seen any of this lot popping back up on the net from a potential buyer who would have wanted to re-sell part of it.
All I have are a couple of bad pics from his ads and my eyes to cry with.
-
Wow! Fantastic collection and I love the green Voyageur. Do you know anything about the company logo on the scales?
Myron
-
I found a pic of that same lot somewhere in my email archive. I remember making an offer on several of the 74mm SAKs.
-
Erm... Ptisuisse... I think your sent me that pic! :ahhh
Small world.
I'm pretty sure, because your green Voyageur was in another photo you sent me. Almost seven years ago :)

Is this your green Voyageur?

The logo belongs to some relatively unknown tree nursery. "Baumschule" means "tree nursery" in english

I remember now !
he did put a few of the 74's and aloxes on the Bay. Did not keep a record of his username. Did you ?
Actually, I bought one from him and it came in with a damaged blade, I returned it and never got anything back.
-
It's a small world.
I contacted him once or twice but never got a response. I never really tried again and also never checked eBay or other places.

That's what we call a "404"
no response..... such a shame..... that's life I guess. :dunno:

But I am quite happy with the few I was able to secure ! Would'nt you ?

Absolutely!
Careful with that Eternit one. Asbestos is nasty stuff ;)

I don't collect SAKs with company logos, sorry. I do have some family members who live near the factory in Goor.
What model is it? Alu tweezers are nice.

I can dispose of it!

Let me join you guys with this recently completed Voyageur mod... Originally wanted to use custom Ti scales but I will reserve it for future builds...
Hopefully some day I can get my hands on the real deal Voyageur...
It’s just a shame Vic discontinued it... We’ve said this before... Vic should listen to us and bring back those 84mm scissors...

There is nothing wrong with mods! In the end you are getting what you want and what better way if its been discontinued or the manufacture hasn’t done it already. :like: :tu:

But... but the real deal Voyageur would be for the collection... the return of the 84mm scissors will definitely make a lot of people happy... modders especially

Very nice Voyageur, Jaya Man!
I built one just like this for my brother for Christmas, but I decided to add a keyring. My thinking was that it's easy to file off if he didn't like it but impossible to add later if he wished he had one.

Me too, Aloha! I originally set out to build my own Voyageur with a regular bottle opener, but realized upon inspection that you can't build a Voyageur with a regular cap lifter. It's incompatible with the main blade when they are in the same layer.
It was actually this realization that caused me to abandon the Voyageur as my EDC SAK, and to start building Super Cadets, modifying the can opener into other implements.
