I think this SAK deserves its own thread. It's one of my favorites, so I am making a spot for everyone to share pics, experiences and thoughts on their Wenger SI's.

I love mine sawman. Great blade with a strong backspring, well put together. I have an 04 dated one.

Swiss Army knives .

Great SAK. :tu: I have two. Three actually if you include my tattoosteve scissors mod... My most recent one I found at the local flea market. The guy I bought it off of thought it was fake, saying that "no Swiss Army Knives have metal handles." I told him it was a neat fake and I'd give him $5 for it..... ;)

I love the SI. :tu:
I usually EDC a SI, and got a couple of backups in case i loose the one I carry.
-
I've never had one myself, but I do have (and love) my Victorinox Soldier. (1961 design) I understand they are identical, except for the bail, so I guess that counts.
When I was an electrical tech., I carried this Soldier for a while, as I hadn't gotten around to buying a Victorinox Electrician yet. Now I've never had a problem with the durability of the large blade on an officer's model SAK, but the extra thick on on t he Soldier sure made me feel "safe." ;)
I would call it a tie between this and the Tinker. The Tinker has the dedicated Phillips, small blade, and T&T, but the Soldier is more durable, both in terms of tool thickness and ability to take a drop without damage.

I remember you getting that one. Very slick of you. ;)

Isn't this thing pretty much the same as a Victorinox Pioneer?

Other way around. :P
The Pioneer is the civilian version of the Wenger SI and the Vic Soldier. And not even those two are the same. :D
The SI has a bigger nail nick.

A thinner blade at the bottom but it holds its width almost all the way to the tip while the Vic tapers down the whole length.

I even think the Wenger Awl is pointier/has a more acute tip but I don't have a large enough sampling to confirm that. ;)

Oh, yeah, it also has a hollow rivet that can feature a bail and not the keyring attachment that digs into your palm at just the wrong place. ::)
Yes. I feel much love for the Wenger SI. :D

Nice.. I have two new Wenger SIs on their way to me now. Looking forward to it.

That too, can be removed with a bench grinder and several seconds of your time. Admittedly, one still wouldn't have the coveted hollow rivet; it would become a pure pocket knife, with no possibility of a lanyard.

I have one. Nice sak, built like a tank. But, it lacks tools.
It is a great simple carry or nice to pair up with other tools.

The Wenger soldier was the first sak I ever bought.
I still own and carry it.
Il try get some pics of it tomorrow.
I bought my 97 solider in 1998.
one of the best knives I've ever owned.

One with scissors would be great! :)
I have one but dont carry it.

No super steel and limited tool set compared to some other models, but it is still hard to argue with that statement.
I'm a big fan of the SI/alox Soldier as well. While I do carry one or two of the soldiers I don't carry the SI, primarily because I have probably five or six soldiers but only one SI.
-
My first Alox was a SI. Now I have 3 (or 4 ) SI's including a "100 Jahre" special amongst a dozen or so Alox knives.
I like the bail, even if it can flip round and give you a single serration in your blade .
-
I love the SI & soldier. I have 2 SI's with a solid rivet, 13 with the hollow rivet. I guess Wenger ran out of the hollow ones and did not want to stop in the middle of a production run.
-
Great SAK I'd say. :)

Lots of love for my '04 SI
I have to agree with Mike - a saw and the hollow rivet would be awesome.

I am thinking of also adding a white cross Pioneer, but loathe to scratch the finish, lol.

As of now, I have 5 of these... Two more are on their way in the post. :D Pictures to follow.
