Title: Rothco Bottle Holder
Post by: Aloha on February 16, 2017, 04:35:38 PM
I've had this bag now for about a year.  I initially used it as my cook set bag but recently I've also used it for a hike bag.  I use it for when Im in area that does see moderate amount of other hikers.  I tried to keep the bag basic yet capable.

This so far has been pretty good and allows me to have enough water ( I'll carry a second bottle 24oz SS if needs be ) for hikes lasting < 4 hours approx.  I don't always like to carry my bladder.

I also intentionally left the pouches unstuffed so I can add in cliff bars, trail mix, dried fruits, etc.  I usually wear cargo pants so I also have pockets I can stuff with other foods if needs be.  I've carried my SS 24oz bottle in my cargo pocket no problem.

I got this bag at the flea market cause it was a good price.  I initially had been comparing the maxpedition and condor bottle holders.  The condor always seemed to beat out the max bag but when I saw this for $10 ( IIRC ) I figured why not give it a try.  I do wish the bag was taller.  The max bag is 12inches high vs this at 10inches high which means my 40oz SS bottle ( 11inches ) wont fit.  Its not a bad thing cause my 32oz Nalgene bottle holds 39oz when filled to the top.

My 1st aid kit is pretty simple.  Some basic meds and bandaids plus some antibiotic cream.

I'll be switching out the T10 for my new Olight HO5 and while the deet free bug spray is good I've been using a concoction of oils as my go to bug spray.  So far its been pretty good so I'll be adding that in along with the deet free spray.  I use Eucalyptus and Lemon mixed with distilled water.  I'm also trying some other oils to keep the bugs away.

In my single sheath for my Swisschamp I have a ferro rod and most of the other items that came with the kit.  This kit again is for hikes/walks/exploring/etc in areas where others are bound to be.  I'm not too worried about getting lost and not soon discovered.  I worry more about twisting an ankle or someone else getting hurt.  I carry that ace wrap in the event of this occurring.

I also have gorilla tape and a few extra gauze pads within the kit.  The paracord is about 30ft.
