Title: Husqvarna Carpenters Axe and more!
Post by: Poncho65 on March 21, 2016, 01:37:26 AM
I have had a Husqvarna Carpenters Axe for about a year now and I would have to say I am very happy with it :tu: It is about 19 inches long and 2 3/4 pounds. Those are the generic measurements (I have measured it and it is right on 19 inches but I have never weighed it)  ;) I am thinking that these are made by Hultafor Bruks of Sweden and rebranded Husqvarna. I have also heard that earlier ones were made for Husqvarna by Wetterlings either way it is very well made and razor sharp :o It is a very manageable size one handed or two handed :tu: The edge on it is a bit straighter than that of a regular hatchet or a felling axe. This is because it is for carpentry work and if you want to hold it closer to the head you can use it to smooth wood down a bit similar to a wood plane.  I have cut down several smaller trees around the house and around the edge of my land and a few that were starting to grow under my powerlines  They were mostly pines and the biggest one was only maybe 6 inches around but I have had no problems with sticking and it cleared the wood out nicely as I chopped away :viking: :2tu: It is also been a good size for delimbing trees after they are down as well. Overall I am very pleased with it and think it will serve me well for many years :dd: The sheath is also of very good quality and it seems that it will hold up for many years as well  The grain of the handle and how it it fitted is also very good. I have never noticed that the handle had such a drastic color difference in the wood until I looked at these pics either  Could have been the lighting but looking at it the handle is just a little bit color difference to me out of the pics ;) I love this axe and would recommend it to anyone looking for a smaller axe for either camping or general maintenance around your property  I am also thinking about getting a larger axe in the same line from Husqvarna since the quality of this one is so good :salute:

Well I'm sure it's a good buy if you can still get them, I might have some residual bitterness at the arrogant salesman at the local agent.
Arrogance and bad service is one thing, inflated prices another, but not getting your toys at all sucks big-time

Well I finally got around to getting both the hatchet and the forest axe by Husqvarna :dd: I am well pleased with both of them and will put them to use around my place this winter  I was a bit surprised but the size of the head on the forest axe as it was about the same as the hatchet (had a comparison pic but it was blurry and already had everything put up by the time I caught it  ) The head of the carpenter axe is much bigger than either of the other two even though it has a 19 inch handle vs. the 13 inch hatchet and the 26 inch forest axe :o I did have to sand the handles down some oil them with raw linseed oil and sharpen them just a bit but after that they are just the way I like them :like: The grain of the hickory handles is in the right orientation but the handle of the forest axe is almost as perfect as you are going to get    Now some pics ;)

Grain of the forest axe as good as my phone would focus on it ::)

Also I would like to note that the sheath of the carpenters axe is superior to the sheaths of the other two :-\ It would be very hard to get the other one of by accident but the other type sheath will come off without much force I am afraid  There is also no welt in the end of the other two sheaths to keep the rivets from chipping the edge of the axe either so I may have to go the route of making my own  Anyway you look at it I am totally excited about these sharp and shineys :dd: :D They are not a bad price either for the quality you receive :like: I may have more thoughts about these as I go on with use

It was only $70 dollars here on ebay  but I have never saw one in a store anywhere  :-\ That is half the price of a Gransfor Bruks and a Wetterlings here :o :like: I have eyeballed them for a very long time and am glad I finally got one as the quality is very good (well to me) I bought the hatchet from the UK actually cheaper than anywhere here :) I put a link for it over in the deals and auction section  If the handle was longer it would be considered an axe as the heads of the hatchet and the axe are very similar :tu:

OK, so I might have gone looking, just for the sake if it you understand.  Prices seem to about the same here so just a bit more than I can spend on a whim.  I did have one of their hatchets a few years ago and really rated the quality.  IIRC it was Mike LOTS who ended up with it as it was a bit heavier than I was looking for at the time.

Oh I have been saving and used birthday money as well so it wasn't a whim at all ;) I am really looking forward to putting the axe and hatchet through their paces for sure

When you think that it can be had here for half the price of a Mora Garberg it suddenly seems like a bit of a bargain.  It's not free or anything, but you're getting a lot of quality for your money. :salute:

Quality vs money I think that these probably stand out against the rest  I am sure that some of the other brands have them beat with overall quality but are they twice as good as these  Asking a question here as I have never had any of the other brands in hand :tu:
