I don’t know how many members have been following the Surprise Box thread below, but it seems from the participants we’ve had, the boxes have grown instead of shrunk. Based on there being sufficient stuff and Aloha volunteering to mail if there is interest. One Surprise Box giveaway could be leaving the US on its way to Australia/New Zealand.
https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,87969.0.htm
Please let me know if anyone would be interested in receiving a box of goodies from Aloha and forwarding on to others.
Each recipient, can keep one item without replacing. If more than one item is kept then the recipient should provide an item of their own to add to the box before forwarding to the next.
The reasoning for selecting Australia and new Zealand is that the “Pay It Forward” box is currently in The UK area and thought this would be another area with a good amount of members but opposite direction.
-
Hello there SOS.
This is most kind of you . :hatsoff:
I am in NZ so will be glad to get the package unwrapping on the go here.
I will PM my address.
-
:woohoo: That didn’t take long.
-
:o :ahhh
-
Are there any restrictions the sender should be aware of? It took me 2 attempts to get the Pay it Forward box to Surge because the USPS initially said they can't send weapons even after I assured them that everything in the box was legal in the UK. It required some creative wording on the customs declaration to get it accepted at a different post office location.
:twak:
-
:woohoo: This is awesome.
I've PMd Paul for guidance on how best to declare the items. This just got exciting.
-
Woohoo this should be fun.
For package declaration the dreaded K word should be avoided and Multitool should be used instead.
The taxman also only wants to clip the ticket if the value is over $400 so we are good to go.
Only problem is mail from the US is very slow at present so it make take up to six weeks.
There will be much  it seems.
RP - you will have a much shorter wait I suspect as I pick you are already in the queue for round 2.
-
Thanks. I look forward to seeing the box, probably next year.

I sure hope it travels faster than that :ahhh. I will repack and get it all sorted shortly. This is gonna be fun.
-
I’m so happy we are getting to share the fun with more people.
-
Nice one Sos and Aloha :like: :hatsoff:
Agree with Paul, post from the US is very slow currently, likely to be 6-8 weeks :ahhh judging by some recentish eBay purchases…it’s even worse from Europe.
I know from the news Australia Post is dealing with a massive back log so they’re very slow even if it gets here quickly
Also helps with import tax if marked as second hand or used.…And yes, definitely no mention of the K word
-
Aloha, I guess you'd better unwrap all the new in packaging stuff I sent you if you're going to send it down to Paul. If you play with it for a while before you send it that makes it used, right?
-
Nice one Sos and Aloha :like: :hatsoff:
Oh this isn’t just me and Aloha. There is also some stuff from Alan K, Adam5 and Farmer X if I’m not mistaken

At least there shouldn’t be anything perishable

Sounds like Aloha gets to play with some stuff. Although, that might make the box a little lighter if he decides he doesn’t want to part with it.

So no puppies then? :dunno:

Hello
So my package of LMs left Annandale 18 Sept then went to New York where it left 22 Sept and now the latest update shows it left Tokyo , Japan 12 Oct.
Bit of a world tour and no end date yet. Let us hope the surprise box is a bit quicker than that.
-
That's great!
Very, very generous act from you all!
A big thumbs UP!

Hello everybody
Due to costs and slow very expensive shipping worldwide we had to use an alternate shipping method. It is now on the way from Portland and should get down under in about 10 days.
Woohoo !
Thanks to the team in the US for getting it this far. Now it is  time
-
There is also some stuff from Alan K, Adam5 and Farmer X if I’m not mistaken
Yes, I did contribute a few things. I've no clue if they remain inside the box.
It is now on the way from Portland and should get down under in about 10 days.
Hopefully. The wait can oftentimes have one bouncing off the walls, eh? :ahhh

I heard a month or two back that USPS are no longer shipping to NZ.
Unfortunately, that is true. Looks like it's temporary, but an inconvenience nevertheless.

Hello Awl
One big step closer - the package landed in Auckland yesterday and has left the airport.
Delivery may even be tomorrow, Wednesday but probably Thursday I would pick. Awl rather exciting.
Not much  left to go.

Hey Syncop8r.
NZPost's youshop facility takes about 10 days from the US to NZ for a fee which includes gst etc but is way quicker than usual USPS.

Woohoo the eagle has landed. :woohoo:
Will open shortly because as usual the phone and work have got in the way of important stuff.
One quick emergency to deal with then we shall see .

Shouldn't the contents be a surprise though? :pok:
-
Hello
I forgot the box was supposed to be surprise and posted a pic. I have now removed the pic . :twak:silly boy indeed
box is full of lovely goodies and will flick it on in the next day or so.
Thanks very much to Adam5, FarmerX, Alan K , Aloha and Sos24 for their kindness. :hatsoff:
-
Will flick it on in the next day or so.
I've never heard that one before! And you're welcome...though my contribution was small, I'd like to think it was quality.
-
Hello there.
Ok so the magical box will be given to Postman Pat ( or should that be Postperson) in about half an hour.
With a bit of luck Syncop8r will be unwrapping :mail: on Monday.
Thanks again to the US team for the contributions .

The package arrived today. They could have delivered it yesterday but didn't try very hard (they wouldn't come through the closed gate. I was in the shower at the time).
Decisions decisions....
Is anyone else in NZ keen on this or is it crossing the ditch? :pok:
-
:woohoo:
Hope y'all found something fun inside to keep.
-
How about some pictures of what was kept? It will still be a surprise to the next person as long as you don't show what you're sending on.
-
If any NZ members want in on this, come forth. :pok:
Because if you come fifth you get a toaster.

Hopefully someone else will chime in for a gift.

I need to pick something and move this on. No one in NZ has piped up so I guess it's heading to Oz next? Perhaps an Aussie member can PM me their address?
-
I'm slightly interested.
However it's not like I need anything.
And after I top up the box with more goodies, postage to oz will cost a fortune.
-
I don't think we top it up. It just gets less and less down the line.
Hmmm, I might try to pick the heaviest item.
-
Well once you post a pic of what you're keeping I'll flip a coin to decide if I'm in or not.
-
I don't think we top it up. It just gets less and less down the line.

Is that what we were supposed to do? I thought if we took something out we had to put something else in to maintain the same value as the original package before sending it on. :twak:

Hello
There was a demand for pics so I will post my goodies.
I took 2 as it was awfully hard to decide.
I do not have any SOG gear so took that chance.
I also happened to a have suitable battery for the Fenix torch so that left the box as well. I mean I only have about 7 torches so one more will not hurt.
2 items were placed back in the box.
Thanks again to the US team for the box.
-
I have made a decision. I think.
Where am I sending the box? I don't think it's staying in NZ so off to Oz it goes.
ReamerPunch, you're fairly active in this thread... PM me your address. :pok:
-
I have a big favour to ask to one of our Kiwi members.
Can someone from New Zealand please contact me?
-
PM sent kind Sir

I’ll give this a bump. Such a sad thing when you can’t giveaway items.

I'm in line for the package from Syncop8r. Waiting for it to get here. Can't wait to see what's inside! :like:

Sorry everyone, I'm holding things up. :surrender:
Things are a bit tight here but I should be able to post the box in a couple of days. I also have to write a novel about everything inside it for customs. :bnghd:
-
Yeah the customs forms have changed and are now a complete smurf around.
And if you do it in the post shop there is an additional $5 fee for processing the customs form.
What used to be cheap and easy is now expensive and a hassle.
-
I have made a decision. I think.
So what did you keep?
-

I'll post once I have posted.

Looks like I have to withdraw from this for the time being. :(
Syncop8r, please do not send the package to me.

Count me in too please

So... the box is finally on it's way across the ditch... to munecito!
I had a rather painful experience at the post office where they wanted me to list each item, it's weight and value.
This was on one of the hottest days of the Summer so far. Lazy guesswork ensued...
I decide to take this lovely MP600 (which I figured came with the sheath it was in):
Thank you very much to whoever donated it and to everyone else who donated items. :hatsoff:
I believe there are still 20 or so items in the box and they are all (I think) lower value items so I have a suggestion for the original box senders to consider: that each participant may take two items without replacement rather than the one. I believe this will help the box keep moving and run it's course. Whaddaya reckon?
-
I was looking forward to going through the box. :(

I think that would be fine.
I hope so.
It would take more than people taking two items for there not to be a box of items to make it to you, because there were some generous people along its travels.

Ditto :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh
Of the three items I put into the box, I know that Alan kept one of them and Dan (Farmer X) kept one. But I don't know the fate of the third item.

I don't know what happened to any of the three items I put in. But the contribution from Adam that stayed with me has proven very handy!

The others I kept were a Case Sod Buster Jr and a Victorinox Climber. I believe Sos24 contributed both.
-
That is correct.
-
I kept most of what I received. However, I replaced what I took out so the box I sent out had the same or higher retail value as what I received. I know that complicates things for those trying to figure out what the current box might have in it. Sorry. :twak:

I think Auspost have been really struggling, particularly with packages from overseas. Last week I received several items that have been AWOL for months (one was 4 months overdue). I have a vision of a large AusPost warehouse with a huge pile of undelivered mail items, and an Auspost employee (or contractor) going around picking out packages at random from the pile saying to himself: "Who's lucky today ? Looks like it is Greg in Canberra ! " >:(

I think you are right, but the holiday season must have added too. I sent a parcel to Perth, it took 4 weeks to get there. Yes we have a big country, but that is taking the p.ss. Maybe the premier of WA is stopping post too... who knows.
Hopefully the parcel is here already and just waiting on "lucky picking" as Greg says.

This is interesting. I ordered something from Australia and it took 2 weeks before the item even was put on a flight to US. I thought it was just because of international, but I guess not.

G'Day,
Excellent day out with Echotech and Huntsman. That is a terrific lunch spot, the pasta was very good. As Echo said, lots of discussions about tools and other edc items as well as a little show and tell as you do with enthusiasts. I think we can definitely have a Sydney meet-up from time to time now that covid detention is over.
A big thank you to all the members who added stuff to the box. There is certainly a big variety of very different items. I think that Valkie is next on the list, but there are more Ozzie members, add your name to the list after my post.
Cheers, Pete

Recieved the box today from Pete.
I was like a kid with a xmas present.
One item in particular took my fancy, so i grabbed it and replaced it with a nice Damascus knife.
Hope someone likes it.
Ill be sending it off to the next lucky guy next week.

Wow, that was super-quick delivery!!!

Hi All.
Sea Monster picked up the box on Wednesday on his way through.
We had a nice chat and a cuppa before he made his way home through Sydney.
It got me thinking, we should have a few get togethers (for those willing) as we are all similar in many ways with our love of multi tools.
I know many people are reluctant to communicate in person, privacy being a prime drive on the internet.
But meeting at a set safe location (cafe) could be interesting and fun.
Anyhoo
Thanks for including me in this little game of surprise box.

Hi Valkie
@piertervn , @Huntsman and myself have met up a few times and had a top time
I'm sure we can arrange another one soon

I did indeed enjoy a cup of coffee with Valkie and his wife, which was nice of them as I'd been on the road a few days and probably looked like I hunted backpackers for sport....
I've had a chance to sit down with the box, lots of interesting stuff I'd never seen before, lots to be tempted with.
I've already had a few conversations with myself about the options :P, but I think I'm going to settle on a torch, as it seems I'm always looking for one, having another handy can't hurt!
I've got some rare items* to add to the box....I'm sure we've got more aussies somewhere?
*Rare if you live in Australia, they probably sell them everywhere in the USA, but I've never seen them on the shelf here :P
-
:like: Stoked this box is making its way around and y'all get a chance to meet is even better.

Colour me green.
I loved the UK and have visited several times.
However, now being retired, I may never see the old place again in my lifetime.

HEY! Aussies! :pok: I've still got this box o' treats taking up valuable real estate!
If we can't find some more people who want to get on the surprise box train (woo! woo!) this stuff is going to end up as part of an MT.O sponsored trial and review
-
Who would ever have imagined it would be so hard to give away free stuff? :dunno:
Somebody really needs to step up and accept this very generous offer from your friends at MTO that assuredly still has plenty of cool stuff in it before Sea Monster sets it on fire or performs some other diabolical experiments on good multitools and knives. As entertaining as that might be, I would really like to see someone who would appreciate them and use them get a chance at them before that happens.
-
Hey Aussies, any moment on your box? Ours is moving along nicely. It took some time but its enjoying traveling and like the box sent to y'all, its growing. HAHAHA. So much for thinking the box would somehow empty.
You can follow our progress here

Split it again and make a Canada box for our friends in the Great White North?
-
Hmmm, that is a great idea. I'll post that in the US Box thread. Thank you.
-
It seems there just aren't many Downunder members that are active. :dunno:
It has already been to the usual suspects.
-
I've had it come around once. Wanna keep it going? :like:

It’s probably a year isn’t it since it last did the rounds to you and I RP? I’m up for another go if others are

Thats what we did here in the US. We just sent it back around. I held it for a while too just because there was little interest.
Hope y'all can get it going again.

:woohoo: This could be fun and I’m just talking as a spectator
-
Good luck RP hope it doesn’t take you too long. I likely have to move fairly soon and dreading looking for another rental in the current market
-
I'm in for a second go if it's continued.

:woohoo:

Ahoy all, I've been out doing stuff and things, but I've still got this box of goodies, someone tell me where to send it!

Bumping this thread to see whats become of this box?

I am available for this if it starts going around again.

You know the drill, Reamer. Send Sea Monster your address. I read all the Aussie surprise box posts. Lots of fun. Guys meeting up with each other and fellowship that doesn't happen here. After all this time, I would imagine Sea Monster would be very happy to get the box out of his way.
I have had the US box twice now. All it cost me was $17.10 to ship it off each time. Plus a $1.25 roll of packing tape. Each time I have nabbed a new Leatherman out of the box and some other odds and ends. Some Vics and a CASE. Plus I added some stuff for the next person. If I had found a nice Leatherman at a flea market or something for $17.10, I would have ripped out my wallet to pay for it then rolled on the ground laughing. The Aussie box is smaller, so I imagine postage isn't much. The box here is 10 pounds or so. Best wishes. Gary
:D :tu:

After you get it, Im happy to have a go Reamer.
Just let me know when and Ill send you my address.
