You're right, the Wenger doesn't include a Phillips. The Victorinox MiniChamp is 58mm long; the Wenger Pocket tool Chest is 65mm. Almost your 1 cm difference.

Thanks. All my MiniChamps are standard Ibach production, factory mistakes included. There was no standard black alox MiniChamp run made yet as far as I know. All black alox ones seen here are customs. For cellidor black is no problem and in fact I do have at least one in black, painted over :)

Indeed, mine is a mod. I had the shield put on reversed to match bigger Alox versions, but I forgot to mention to check the keyring position. Now it is on the wrong side. Still, very impressed with the Minichamp. Small size, but a great tool! With it's multiple layers it really feels like a mini SAK. :D I don't have that feeling with the Classic, or the Rambler Alox I have. This is my favorite 58mm model.

The small Scenics (mainly Classics) were reportedly done for an annual trade show in Basel. Scaled down versions of the standard Swiss Scenics.

LOL - What a coincidence!
Last night before going to bed I was online searching for a new EDC and decided to order a Manager!
I love my Rambler which is on one set of keys and I wanted something on the other set of keys that I use at work, I wanted a pen because I often need one at work and the Manager seemed like it might be just perfect for what I wanted.
I also ordered a black executive because, well - do I really need a reason to get another Victorinox?
I have an old Minichamp (no combo tool or pen) and I was considering buying a new model, but it is harder to use than my Rambler due to the extra tools that I never need/use making it harder to find the tool I want. I do think that the Minichamp is pretty cool for the amount of tools for the size & weight but I just don't find the need for all the tools to be there. I don't think of any tools as being unnecessary on my Cybertool 34 - every single tool on that is worth having IMO, but with the Minichamp I don't believe I've ever used the ruler or the cuticle pusher - I have used the orange peeler on a few oranges though.

I like a lot the smaller size of rambler and manager, but I really think that I now could not go back and replace my Minichamp by any of those :-) I would certainly miss all the missing tools.

I used the pliers in a LM Style PS to pull the loose cable without having to disassemble the whole thing and put it back into in the right place. The pliers were a good tool because the tip of the cable needed to be a little squeezed in order to stay right there. And the Phillips screwdriver in any SAK is a real lifesaver. I have a small Phillips in the Minichamp and a bigger one in the Explorer, and both are great, covering a lot of different screws in a variety of contexts. But I must say, the Minichamp has really surprised me in how useful and capable it can be. It is replacing my Explorer 80 or 90 % of the times.

Yes it is. I added extra file with flat head, combo tool flat head and golf tool over standard minichamp tools.

My silvertech is missing the cap lifter, does anyone know what it is called?
More than likely I will swap scales on my red one so I can keep the pen and light on a proper MC.
My alox one is nice and slim but I like the scale tools.
All in all though a lot can be done with these 58mm performers.

After making a pocket hanger I carried my Juice Pro in my pocket (of tight denim) this morning. I felt that girls would be embarrassed looking at me, if you know what I mean. I think once my SAK-mania set in, it was easy for me to disregard the Spartan - after the Compact, it felt clunky to me to have separate cap lifter and bottle openers, and I thought I loved the scissors, and I thought two blades was redundant. The Compact felt exquisitely economical to me. But I discovered that I never used the scissors, pen, pin, eyeglass screwdriver, or hook ( :think: ). So, losing the Compact and gaining a Minichamp not only put things in perspective for me, but also gave me back a new old friend, the Spartan: not as awe-inspiringly complete as the SwissChamp or economical like the Waiter, but (a) more than I needed once I got the Minichamp, (b) still small, by SAK standards, and (c) a knife I already owned.
You know, the downside of having huge collections of knives is that individually they don't mean as much. I'm glad I'm back to carrying and enjoying my Spartan, and I look forward to giving my kid one.
Note: I'm aware this post wasn't really about the Minichamp, but the subtext here is that if I didn't have the pen, scissors, and other supplemental tools on my keychain, I'd have much more anxiety about what to be carrying on the big knife. Thanks, Minichamp.

I own a Victorinox 7 blade MiniChamp complete with toothpick and tweezers. The scales have an orange tiger print on them.
My problem is that I can't locate a Victorinox part number for it. All information I had on it disappeared into thin air.

I just got a used Midnight MiniChamp (and my first MiniChamp) this weekend for $7. :climber:
Already on my keychain, I can see already it's going to be one of my favorite SAK. I would like to take it apart for cleaning, but I believe it would ruin the attachment of the scales to rivets. I wouldn't mind buying a new set of scales, but looking through Amazon.com and Fleabay, it looks like only the standard scales are available as replacements. I don't mind loosing the LED, but the pen is somewhat handy. ??? If anyone knows of a source of new scales that allows one to continue to use the pen, please let me know.

Can't say I agree with much of that. The thickness has never been an impediment to my use of the MC personally, so I wouldn't benefit from dropping a layer. I actually don't like the screwdriver tip on the nail file, because I find the shape uncomfortable and inadequate for reaching many spots under my nails. I also use the cuticle pusher very frequently, though not for its intended purpose. However, I wouldn't mind losing the driver + ruler for a sturdy fine screwdriver. That's the one thing I like about the Micra over the Minichamp; the Micra has a pretty nice tiny driver.

Endless uses, I always cary a full sized SAK aswell but quite often I find my self reaching for the little guy anyway :)

The Cuticle pusher is, in fact, a great no-sharp-edge tool, great small pry bar, large-small screwdriver, coke spoon :P etc.
As already said, there are some tasks that can not be accomplished using the small SD tip, where cuticle pusher works great, ad example:

The cut & pick tool (sometimes referred to as an orange peeler) it's also a great cutting tool and it is a great scraper tool. But if one use the blade for scraping instead, then will for sure need a secondary (emergency) blade :pok: :D
The ruler, of course, it's not a deal breaker, but I've used it several times, could came in handy, not to mention nail file "phillips SD" tip.
To make it short: MiniChamp rules!

They do rock indeed, not the least because they pack so many tools in such a small package that they are mostly underestimated; the Minichamp could very well be the MOST refined and complete and highly civilized urban tool.

I was wondering, has anyone modded a 58mm sak to fit a 91mm sak's small blade? On the minichamp in particular I would get rid of both blades to accomodate this, and of course reshuffle the remaining tools to properly make room. Saw the post a few pages up of someone modding a MC to fit the awl, looks nifty!
edit: in an effort to fit a 91mm small blade, i would be perfectly willing to do without the nailfile. why they didnt just grind the file into the reverse side of the ruler i will never know. if they had, they could have moved the main knife to the other side and made it one layer thinner.

Yes the LCSAS minichamp is the only red one available with the LCSAS logo (white Swiss crosses) and you can find it on ebay in Swiss stores for $67.

I carried a classic on my keychain for 36 years until discovering the MiniChamp. Since then, I have kept a hunter green MiniChamp II on one keychain and a red Minichamp II on the other. Although I am very much drawn to the spectacular look of the Alox MiniChamp, I can't bring myself to give up the pen and the tweezers. It is probably out of habit since it has been some time since I have utilized tweezers outside the home and I also carry a bullet space pen in my watch pocket.

I have been wearing a small SAK and light in this manner since 97. Origonaly it was a Wenger Esquire and a Beta light. I rebuild the necklace as needed for comfort and to replace the cord regularly. Keeping tarnish off the brass liners is a constant task , but this is still my favorite set yet.

I've got a MiniChamp II somewhere, but people I know don't like it as much as I do.
Maybe because it's so small. Yet it's very versatile, I had it laying on my desk and use it for all kind of stuff.
I wrote I have one somewhere because it got lost during the move, must be in one of the unpacked boxes.
By the way, I read that the CyberTool series were made for people working on computers. Well, the MiniChamp was my original CyberTool. I took apart and rebuild many PCs with this SAK.

I also have 2 Minichamps, each with a retractable pen (pretty sure that mine have tweezers instead of toothpicks). Although the tweezers have come in handy in the past, it has been several years since I had to use the tweezers while away from home. I have had an ongoing internal debate (usually after seeing alox Minichamp photos) whether to switch to the alox Minichamp and continue to stick with my status quo by the narrowest margin (losing the tweezers had tipped the scales against alox in the past).
The Pioneer X is my first and only alox SAK and I love the way it looks and handles. I am pretty sure that my next alox purchase will be the Minichamp.

I absolutely love this knife. Reading a lot of posts here I find it a kind a funny that I carry a larger SAK (Handyman) in my pocket as EDC and keep a MiniChamp II on my desk.
It's like the world upside down, haha.
It's a great manicure tool, but the blades also see good use. When in a pinch the pen will do for writing notes and I even used the ruler on a regular basis.
This MiniChamp has also been used to do a lot of work on computers and components. That philips screwdwriver is awesome.
Another use for the cuticle pushes is use it as a spatula spoon.

I offered one of my Minichamps to my wife (figuring I would just replace one of mine with an alox Minichamp) but she preferred to stay with her classic to limit weight. I have a Minichamp II on each of my key rings (one for each car). These are great little tools that punch way above their weight!

The scales on my MiniChamp were already damaged. The green ones come from a new Classic, I pried them off with the small blade of my Tourist, starting on the side of the t&t slots. They came of unscathed, and popped right into place on the (cleaned up) MiniChamp, no problems. No vise needed, just hand pressure.

I keep mine on a keychain hook that's easy to remove. Due to the tools on it, it allows me greater flexibility with my larger SAK carries. I don't have to worry that I'll be without scissors or a nail file etc if I'm carrying a Spartan or Tinker, for instance. Great little knife!
Mine are also on an easy to attach and remove locking hook.

I really like the Alox Minichamp but have kept it in its box while the Cellidor MiniChamps live on my car key chains.
I thought I had one MiniChamp I and the two MiniChamp IIs that live on the keychain (in addition to the Alox MiniChamp) but discovered a 3rd Cellidor MiniChamp II this past week that I had forgotten about and which I purchased for my wife's keychain (she wanted to stay with her Classic for weight savings). Thank you for the compliment of liking this little tool combo. The MiniChamp is a great keyring tool! I used to carry a Classic on my keyring for many years but the MiniChamp adds so much more function. I definitely prefer the newer MiniChamp (MiniChamp II) because it includes a retractable pen. The little lobster claw quick-attach accessory came from a pack I bought on Amazon for a couple of custom leather wrist straps for my cameras and gave me the ability to quickly attach or detach a wrist strap to a camera. They have come in handy for some of my small tools such as the MiniChamp or LM Squirts.

Yes, the red tweezers came from a limited edition classic (One that I don't carry and I'm not worried about having the right tweezers in). I have been working on finding some red 3D printed toothpicks or maybe seeing if dying a toothpick would be something that could be done.

Quite a lot of engineering in such a small package. Been using it for about 2 years. Same light and batteries. Just a little stropping on the two blades, though I do not use this for "work" in any real sense of the word. On the pharmacist's tool, I put an edge for very light gouging. I had it on a key chain, but it was scratched up in a brief period of time. Now it is in an old Victorinox pouch for 88mm knife, cut down a bit. One of my most used Saks. Alox version next.

After carrying a 4-layer SAK, it feels like I'm not carrying a SAK when I have had this Mini my pocket the last two days.
I was going to carry the MiniChamp to the dentist tomorrow, but I'm going to have to go with my 4-layer for security. :climber: :ahhh
I can relate to wanting to carry the 4-layer SAK...it does give you more confidence. :D
The Mini is nice because it is light enough that it can be carried in addition to another knife. It fits nicely in the watch pocket of a pair of jeans. :cheers:

But to my question, I was looking in the SAKWiki and I'm curious if there should be a distinction between the two pen variants.
Both pens are in the scales, but they are as follows:
1) Retractable with the grey sliding lever.
2) Removable, no lever.
Edit: I'm noticing on this Signature model page, it's just one line that states: Retractable or Removable pen.

What does the minichamp xl have over the regular? I see the two-pronged thing, but what is it? Also, it looks like a third blade? Or is that something else?The two other tools are the two-pronged divot tool and then that one that looks like a blade is another nail file, but the type with slanted grooves like in the bigger knives.

I've my lone Minichamp, but the variations fascinate me!Barry, from my understanding the cellidor scales only come in Ruby, Sapphire and Red from the factory for the MiniChamp.
Any other variations (like the ones I show), are scale swaps from the Classic versions.
I hope Victorinox doesn't sell LE MiniChamps because my bank account would suffer. :cheers:

It's kind of funny... I've replaced the pen scales, on all of my MiniChamps just so that I'd have a toothpick and tweezer. In all these years, I've only used tweezers 3 times. Toothpick may be another story, but I'm really liking the Alox.

I usually open the cuticle pusher, ruler, or phillips tool to extend the handle when using some of the other tools.

A little late now answering if the 58s are useful. While I wouldn't "compare" it to the larger SAKs 84 or 91mm it is a very useful size. I see the 58s as complimentary to a larger tool however as FB says, hers is well suited for urban settings. My 58mm SAK sits on my keychain and while it doesn't see daily use its sure nice to know its there. It can handle a lot as I've sure pushed mine. Those little scissors are no slouch and when the larger drivers of the bigger SAKs are a bit much the little drivers on the 58s truly shine.

I've only got a couple of the MCs left, that I've left the pen on. Got several that I've simply added another shield side on. Several more that I did a complete swap, with themed scales. 2 with scales from Remade Knives, and then my Alox.
I really like some of the 58mm themed scales. I just wish they were more permanent.

I was at a restaurant and couldn't read the small menu items/prices, LED to the rescue.
I was at a hotel and needed to see my way in the dark, LED was right there handy.
Someone was showing me their A/C in a travel trailer, he couldn't read the dial, I said here, let me shine some light.
I hear chewing sounds under my desk, I use the light to see if what my dog is chewing is his own toy, or something he shouldn't have.
I used to use the light on my cellphone, but pressing the button on the MiniChamp scale is so much quicker and always handy.
Lately the LED and the main blade are my most used tools. :hatsoff:

I am surprised at just how many times I use the white LED light on my Midnite MiniChamp.
Lately the LED and the main blade are my most used tools. :hatsoff:

Honeycomb orange G-10 scales from Remade Knives. These didn't fit as well as the black set, so I had to glue them on.
Been wanting to test out the Rhino glue that the wife bought me. We'll see how it does.

What’s the best way to get an LED scale to add to my minichamp-with-pen?Propably buy a Midnite Manager or Signature Lite used to use as a donor, but make sure it has the white LED, they're much brighter. I have a Midnite MiniChamp, but then you lose the toothpick which I love! So I tuck the toothpick in a lanyard on my knife.

Here also, I must get around to procuring one at some point! I’ve resisted so far, as I do use the scale tools on my 58mm knives (they are often paired with a full size alox of one form or another) but there will be times when I simply don’t need those extra bits, and the alox Mini is just SO good :)

I might have to grab a pocket tool chest and another minichamp and see about combining them.Some of the neatest 58mm mods I've seen are when they add a 91mm reamer/awl. That would be more useful then the 65mm awl in my opinion.

I'm thinking on getting a cellidor one too, but was afraid the liners was aluminum as it's not sturdy enough on a 58mm size.
I'm still biting myself not to get a backup alox one.... don't know if i'll succeed though... :facepalm:

I know that Victorinox had a belt pouch for them, but I can only find them on eBay, coming from Russia. Definitely don't feel like spending $25.00 + shipping to get one.
Got back from the Drs, yesterday, and dug out an old kit sheath that I had carried a Barlow in. Took it apart and cut it down to size. Don't look pretty, but I now know what to do. It'll work for one of the beaters. New one should cost me under $10.00. (Now I really wish I knew how to carve leather, for a fancy one.)

For the Dremel tip, I'm sorry. I saw the pictures, but can't tell what you used for the grinding. I've used my Dremel mainly for cutting and sanding, not grinding.
Appreciate the info on the micro-abrasives.
I'm more of a home repair DIY guy. This small-scale stuff for modding SAKs is new to me.

"Too bulky" is always subjective...
The cellidor mini is as thick as the Tinker, and the alox mini is thinner than a Pioneer... ;)
But then again i don't carry the 58mm on my keys any more, i carry them on my jeans small pocket

I also hate that thick and ugly pen scale on the minichamp, and it would be something i'd almost never use.
So, when i got mine, i immediately popped the pen scale off and pressed a new regular back scale in ;)
It's absolutely perfect now. I still carry the pen on my coin/utility pouch, if i need to use it, it fits perfectly under the phillips/combo tool on the mini, or under the hook on a 91mm ;)

Great to see someone who thinks exactly like me... :D
I also hate that thick and ugly pen scale on the minichamp, and it would be something i'd almost never use.
So, when i got mine, i immediately popped the pen scale off and pressed a new regular back scale in ;)
It's absolutely perfect now. I still carry the pen on my coin/utility pouch, if i need to use it, it fits perfectly under the phillips/combo tool on the mini, or under the hook on a 91mm ;)

While I really like the idea of the Alox MC, I like having the pen more. I also enjoy having the tweezers so no Alox MC for me. Its a chubby little SAK but in perspective its not bad at all. YMMV.

It's the length of the Minichamp that makes it nice on the keychain. The Alox is thin enough that you barely notice it there. I do like the pen though!

Yes, it's big for a 58mm, but really small for everything it can do. Some of the odder blades do come in very handy at times.
And if you don't like having to choose between toothpick and tweezers, mod it.

I love both. The cellidor one had little pocket carry for now. The Alox is permanent resident on my key chain.
The cellidor is moded BTW.... first thing i did when i got it was pop out that ugly pen scale, and put in a regular toothpick scale. Looks slimmer and way prettier... :D

Out of all my celidor MiniChamps I only have one that has the pen scale still on it. I'll pick up used SD's/Classics, in different colors, to use as doners.

Love the Alox MiniChamp. They're no thicker than a Rambler but you loose the scale tools, if they matter...
Mine are good. If you have a celidor MC I'd take the scales off and give it a good soak and clean. Unless you've got an extra set of scales, be careful when taking them off. I always give mine a hot water soak before removing mine.

Well it’s been 10 days of using the MiniChamp Alox and...
gotta say I don’t think I will ever be without this wonderful little knife!
I’ve carried it every day since I got it and it has proven useful each and every time I reach for it.
Really like how it fits perfectly (even horizontally) in the coin pocket of a pair of Jeans.
The best use so far was when I was down in my basement precariously perched on a step ladder trying to rig up a dehumidifier on a shelf using a thick rubber washing machine drain hose but the hose was too long and I need to cut it - but I had forgotten my main 91 mm carry. Ready to descend the ladder I suddenly realized that I had the minichamp in my pocket. Well that washing machine hose was no match for that little blade- it cut through it like butter. :woohoo:
This little guy is a legit tool and not like a toy as I’ve heard in some YouTube review videos. I’ve also got pretty big hands and was thinking it might be too small or the nail nics might be too close together Or inaccessible. Not the case at all.
I’ve already learned the placement and location of each tool. I really love this thing and thought y’all might enjoy my report.

I think I prefer the soft feel of the celidor scales to the touch, but they tend to age badly when not protected. And they take a lot more space, which to be fair never was an issue to me.

I noticed the nail file seems to be better in the new MiniChamp. The surface is darker or less shining but has a fine grit that seems more efficient.

I like to carry a MiniChamp and a bigger SAK. I remember back in the day when I got the first MiniChamp, how surprised I was with the number of tasks I managed to accomplish using such a small tool. It was able to replace the Explorer about 90% of the time, which seemed amazing to me. Opening packages, cutting nails, working with some screws…
I just couldn’t replace the corkscrew for the sporadic wine bottle opening, but I am sure that after all these years someone must have found a way
Also, I prefer the larger blade in the 92mm line for tasks such as bread slicing or fruit peeling. The thin blades in the MiniChamp and similarly sized SAKs are great for their size, but they are not optimal for some tasks.

I feel the same way. It's nice to have the choice of tools that both the 58 and larger SAKs have to offer. I also have both versions of the Minichamp, but the Alox sees a lot more carry time for me. I like the slightly thinner Alox.
Same here, though I generally carry a large stockman or jackknife along with my MiniChamp.

The area has been badly affected by the recent flooding, saw whole caravan parks smashed up, sand all over agricultural land, roads out, tide marks on the sides of houses etc, so pretty sad but clean up was happening and it remains a beautiful place

Aicolainen, what is the knife you are referring to? I can't tell from the picture. Is it a modified Minichamp, or are you saying you use this other, non-Minichamp because you like it better? Sorry if it was clear to everyone else!

Doing the MC NTR challenge last month really made me realize how much I love that lil knife. Did the Yeager challenge this month because wanted to see how The executive would do in a toe to toe matchup between the two. For me this is why doing challenges can sometimes be so insightful. Really can’t see any other knife bumping the MC from its perch of best back up knife for me. Simply because it’s the one that I’m always wanting to reach for and feel weird when I don’t have on me. :ahhh

I do have a custom Alox that has most of the tools of the MC. Have to say the thing that is most endearing about it is when I don’t have another MT on me for some reason the MC is always there on my keychain and can do almost everything needed on the daily.
Here is a picture because we all know it ain’t worthwhile without one. I use the clip as a keychain dangler in my pocket.

Never did clean her after the Nailclip took over the keychain show recently.
Here is a picture with all her tools deployed. Knife, Scissors, Wharnie Knife, flathead and mini Phillips/bottle opener and of course the nail file/cleaner.

I just got my first mini champ yesterday. It's a nice little knife, I am impressedMy most used SAK. I never thought I would used more than the bigger ones, like the Explorer that I used to carry back then.

I would be interested, but I’m already committed to the Spirit challenge and want to try for the 60 days. I know I will need to carry a MC or other 58mm with the combo to with the spirit during that challenge (can’t just go without it I use it too much), so could I do 2 at once? I think the rules say no? :think:
