Title: ( TRADED ) Vintage Othello 4375 Boot knife
Post by: kwakster on September 01, 2010, 09:28:39 AM
This vintage Othello 4375 Boot knife from the 80's i recently got in a trade from a forum member on the Dutch knife forums.
The trademark Othello was used by the Solingen, Germany based firm of Anton Wingen, who sadly had to file for bankruptcy in the early 90's since they couldn't keep up with cheap eastern imports.
The quality of the Anton Wingen knives however was on par with Puma knives, probably a name more familiar to many.

Although i just recently acquired this dagger i'm still going to sell it because by the strangest coincidence i ran into it's twin brother a few days ago. (figuratively spoken of course,  :D)

The dagger i'm offering is a good example of the quality that came out of Solingen just a few decades ago; an esthetically pleasing daggershape built from quality materials which were also very nicely finished.
This one however had been previously sharpened on a whetstone (and not all to well i might add), so i took the liberty to resharpen and repolish both edges to a crisp sharpness again.
A friend of mine thought that i had bought the knife new in a shop, so i like to think i did a good job.
Because of the narrow daggershape it will of course never be a good slicer, but it still can shave some hair on the back of my hand again.
Sadly the sheath had it's retaining strap removed and the stitchings are also a bit loose at the upper end.
I was thinking of restitching it myself, but i decided to leave that to the new owner.

Specs:

Overall length: 24,3 cm
Blade length: 12,3 cm
Blade thickness: 6,8 mm (measured at the ricasso)

Handle material: Dark brown linen Micarta with brass fittings
Weight: 150 grams
Sheath: Leather

Price: 80,00 Euro excluding shipping
