Sparky415 can get us our usual campsite near Bicester, but do we have any other options?

Add your name if your interested, and let's get the ball rolling!

Also,if possible, let's try get the basics,ie dates and locations,in place by the end of this month :pok:

Jealous!!

How many members do we have in Florida? :pok:
I'm not counting Newbies in any of these counts, for obvious reasons, and am counting a few who aren't on the map, but i happen to know where they live

Based on the Member Map, about 3 or 4 active members spread throughout Florida (which takes about a day to drive from the end of the Panhandle to the tip of the peninsula).

I think there's about 10 currently spread throughout Texas (where I live) unfortunately again very spread out.

Based on the map, and on members that have been active recently, a US Meetup would probably happen in either the 4 state region around Chicago (greatest density of active members, ~12 within a few hundred miles), someplace in California (~4 members within ~100 miles), or one of five major metro areas in Texas (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and SAK Guy's cave of Wonder).

As usual, I'm certainly interested. All depends on when, and what my circumstances are at the time. Worst case scenario, I'll photocopy my head and you can stick it to an empty chair. Mark won't notice the difference, and will still be talking to "me" till sunrise  :D

I'm sure there was an earlier one with Mike, Dunc, Benner and Dave K.  That might have been documented through the old SOSAK website though.  Like I say; I wasn't there but lets say that 2008 sounds right to me.

This article is from the August 2008 SOSAKOnline:

http://swissarmyknights.com/articles/2008/83-august-2008/512-uk-meetup

Which means it was probably in July of 2008.

It would be excellent to get some members from countries outside the UK. As for me, I lost my job this week, so my participation will depend on how quick I can get myself back into reasonably gainful employment. I have a few "irons in the fire", but no definitive offers as yet. I do hope to be able to get there though, so pencil me in for a place round the fire  :tu:

Something that came up in another thread: would people like to bring sharpening stones/systems so we can compare and contrast the different methods?  I have a Lansky Turnbox and a Lansky Standard 3-stone system, and am looking at getting a bench stone for freehand - I'll bring them along.  It would be great to try other methods if possible. :tu:

And on that note, is there anything that anyone particularly wants others to bring along?  Obviously a big pile of sharp and pointy things, axes, machetes, halberds, billhooks, saws, lights, multis, gadgets, guns and burny things.  Have I missed anything? ???

That'll look interesting on the roof rack. :D

The only sharpening system I have is a Turnbox and bench stones so I'm no help there.

Seen that too many times for comfortable viewing!

We used to go to a local restaurant in Reading run by Gurkha's. A few times they just hauled some drunk racist out by the scruff of their necks for abuse. Nice to see some payback - who'd want to be waiting staff in an British curry house?

A Land Rover roof rack is like a normal roof rack just more expensive and less good.

Firewood sorted :D

And on that note, is there anything that anyone particularly wants others to bring along?  Obviously a big pile of sharp and pointy things, axes, machetes, halberds, billhooks, saws, lights, multis, gadgets, guns and burny things.  Have I missed anything? ???

Is there anything else people want me to bring?

Sparky; Sharpening stones

As long as you don't try to come down the A43 I expect you'll be fine - the M1 and M40 will probably be no worse than usual (for a Friday afternoon).  Take the A508/A422 to Buckingham if you're on the M1 (or maybe Milton Keynes > Aylesbury?).  If you're coming down the M6 then take the A41 past Bicester - this is probably the least complicated way to the site.

Excellent. :tu:

Sparky; Sharpening stones
hiraethus; more sharpening stuff (Lansky, diamond stone, turnbox)

I'd like to get a look at a Boker Tech Tool (Gareth?), a Sideclip and an Executive if anyone's got them.

Sorry I missed you too mate.  I had a bit of an interesting trip on the way to the car boot sale; I came across a young woman who'd crashed her car off the road avoiding hitting a fox.  Myself and another car pulled over to see if she was OK and I took care of her while the other chap called the police and ambulance after she admitted she had a sore neck.  While we were waiting two more cars pulled over; one driven by a GP and the other by the attending doctor serving with the Air Ambulance.  She was in pretty good hands I felt. :D

That was great fun. :D  Sorry you couldn't make it mags - I was looking forward to meeting you.  Maybe next time. :pok:

Lots of stuff to play with, axes to throw, wood to chop, pointy things to sharpen and as always, loads to learn from the other guys.  My shoulder and arms are killing me this morning from flying a 6-foot kite in 20 mph winds.  Big thank you to everyone - but especially Sparky for arranging the campsite, fire and targets and Gareth and Smashie for the air rifles and pistols.  Great to see cupboard again too.

Glad you all had fun - it's such a good site. I will have to come down on the Friday next time - if I'm not at work I can't get involved!

Stepped out of my flat this morning to find the effing lift out of order again! People queueing up complaining, I need a different job.

I had been assured by one of our new Mods that this round was un-splittable (see that muckle knot in it?  Well it wasn't the only one and the wood rang like iron).  At first I was inclined to agree, but with the help of that fantastic splitting maul it did finally come apart.  Not easy and not entirely necessary, but it was fun. :D

It really was a challenge mate and I very nearly didn't take it on, but I have been splitting wood for a good few years.  That maul was just a cracking tool for the job as well.  Anyway, you'd taken most of the round apart already, I was just doing the silly bit. :D
