I'm not sure if there's a side-by-side request thread and some folks have been talking about wanting an XLT.
Since I just got one yesterday (used), I thought I'd start off by showing this next to some other familiar models.
I figured folks could ask for size comparison shots here.
If this has already been done, please delete this thread.
Here is a shot of an XAVT, XLT, Swiss Champ, CyberTool 34 (M).

That is true. I don't think I am going to buy those as they get pretty expensive. I think there is an XL as well, and it's very expensive.
-
Yup... Super Timer isn't I think... I know somebody that might still have it in stock for sale...

The XAVT is just ludicrously wide. How does that thing look when you try to use it's screwdrivers? (I want to see it in hand!)

Sorry for the poor photos.
First two are XAVT which I bought as just a collectable item.

I see them on evilBay fairly regularly. The thing you have to make sure and check on a used one is make sure the mico screw driver isn't over torqued.

That was a once in a lifetime find at $45. Congrats on finding such a good deal.

I think the only one that I found is on their website. It seems pretty cool. If you google it i think a mto discussion from 2010 comes up. That should have a link to a review of it.

Actually there may not even be any video at all. I plan on posting a review on it once I get it and have the time.

Yes, the scissors are the same and don't forget the way the scales are made/fitted....the Wengers overlap the liner edges and the Vic butts up to them. The overlap (and the flush awl design) necessitates a scale cutout to access the Wenger Awl.

Poncho asked how thick the custom Master Ranger (Ranger with inline phillips) is...
Here are the comparison pics
(L-R) Ranger, Master Ranger, Handyman, Champion
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170412/86239f4718a041537b2994edce06ffd4.jpg)
Obviously the Master Ranger is thicker compared to the Ranger since adding the inline phillips layer.
Master Ranger is thinner than the Handyman. Difference being inline phillips i/o plyers.
Master Ranger is also thinner compared to the Champion since it lacks the fish scaler.

PIC REQUEST , Please n Thanks in advance!
58mm EXECUTIVE & 58mm COMPANION = SIDE BY SIDE
SAKwiki:
The Executive 58mm is a very rare older model Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. It should not be confused with the very common 74mm Executive knife. The 58mm Executive very closely resembles the modern day Companion. Discontinued model.
-
Executive (74mm), Ambassador (the black one) and a SD.
The thickness is really similar in the three knife. The Executive is a little bit thick, but in hand or pocket I can't feel differece.
The small blade of Executive appear identical to the one of sd.

So if I understand this right, a Rambler is actually thicker than an Ambassador? :o
-
I've got a manager (the one in the middle), that is similar to the rambler plus the pen, and I can confirm that the ambassador is the slimmer than the manager.
(http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv187/Mini_miao/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20170425_103947_zpsaxaneuez.jpg) (http://s682.photobucket.com/user/Mini_miao/media/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20170425_103947_zpsaxaneuez.jpg.html)

It looks to me that a Rambler(slightly slimmer than a Manager) is almost the same thickness as an Executive.
Very interesting, thank you for the pictures!

Closest I can get:
Climber(slightly thicker than Hiker), left, beside Bladeless Hiker(almost same thickness as Tinker), right.
-
To add to the above, here are the side by side pics of the classic, rambler, ambassador and executive...(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170426/7ff58615b60d6a7774768298804dd687.jpg)

Despite its larger size, the 74mm models are thinner than its 58mm siblings... This is atributed to the fact that 74mm scales are thinner...
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
That may or may not depend on the age. I have a pretty old 74mm SAK (I think it's an Executive, not sure ) that has very thin scales. I think I posted a pic years ago :P
-
As for the 58mm, retractable pens and Led lights will make the scales more thicker

Doing some side-by-side comparisons of 4 SwissChamps:
Second and third seem to have the thicker tang on the main blade (left side), I need to find out which years have this.
The third has the thinner pliers.
Fourth set is the only one with the clear magnifier and shorter inline Phillips.

Single Layer Ribbed Alox:
This is not comprehensive. It represents what I have that can be photographed and measured. I used Harbor Freight Pittsburgh composite calipers which, if you know Harbor Freight, are anything but NIST calibrated. They are, however, not too shabby for cheap composite material calipers. I use them for measuring things that mar much too easily from tool steel calipers such as knives, watches, etc.
These single layer ribbed Alox represent what I call "Gentlemen's Knives". They're slim, relatively small, and disappear in a front pocket. The ribbed Alox has some class as well. IMHO it's a slight step up from smooth Alox and a just a little more up from Cellidor. Hardly noticeable until you need to open a box, a letter, or peel an apple or an orange, or perhaps cut a candy bar in half (or more parts) for the kids. (If they're old enough to cut it themselves, and there are two, give one the knife and let him cut it; the other gets to pick which half he wants.) For those that want to protect the finish from keys and coins, they can fit into a thin leather slip and still disappear in the pocket.
First, to get a feel for their shape and relative sizes, here they are face up . . .
Now for their thicknesses . . .
The 75mm Beginner is the thinnest knife I've ever seen. I thought I had seen thin with the Sentry and Excelsior, and then the Beginner arrived. Note that the Sentry and Excelsior are the same thickness and the Excelsior has two blades. I've used arrows to show how Vicotrinox managed to fit the opposing blade without increasing thickness by using a spacer and thinning the large blade at the tang slightly. Provides the necessary space for the small pen blade.
I have a 74mm Prince and didn't depict it here because it has stainless steel scales, not ribbed Alox. It falls between the Bantam and Solo at ~6.3mm thick (varied +/- 0.1mm depending on where it was measured; one end, the other end, or the middle). Another Gentleman's Knife albeit a little different from these but still with plenty of class:

Side by side comparison of various 58mm:
- Classic
- Signature (Classic with pen)
- Signature Lite (Classic with pen and light)
- Rambler
- MiniChamp
- Midnight MiniChamp
The pen and light dramatically increase width. The light with its cell adds a bit more than the pen does compared to toothpick and tweezers scales.
Not shown are the Manager, a Rambler with pen, and the Midnite Manager, a Rambler with pen and light. One can deduce from the Classic, Signature and Signature Lite that their widths would be (approximately):
- 10.3mm - Rambler
- 11.9mm - Manager (Rambler with pen)
- 13.7mm - Midnite Manager (Rambler with pen and light)

I got one. If anyone has 74mm Escort, I would like to see thickness comparison with Ambassador. Been searching one and it would help decide. :)
I know its not a common one, so, sorry.
What else is similar to an Escort? I have an Ambassador....maybe I can get close.
In 74mm I have a Cellidor Prince, Stainless Steel Prince, Ambassador and Executive. The 74mm Escort has been retired for some time now. The Cellidor Prince is probably about the same as an Escort in dimensions as it's a single layer. It's an Escort with a small blade added opposite the large one, T&T and keyring added. The other side has the same fingernail cleaner and nail file. I'll do up a comparison of the four. A Prince might be easier to find compared to an Escort.
Getting them all on edge may be the challenge ;)

Victorinox 74mm comparison:
- Prince with Stainless Scales
- Prince with Cellidor Scales
- Ambassador
- Executive
The Prince and Ambassador are single layer. The Executive is two layer.
The Prince is an Escort with several tools added:
- Small blade opposite the large one
- Key ring
- Toothpick and tweezers
An Ambassador is a Prince with swapped out tools:
- Small blade replaced with short non-SD nail file used on 58mm Classic
- Long nail file on back replaced with scissors
A look at the four from their sides . . .
A look at the four from their edges . . .
The main blade tang width on all is 2.2mm. The width of both the long nail file and the scissors at the pivot are also 2.2mm.Added arrows to show how Victorinox made room for the second blade on the Prince and short nail file on the Ambassador opposite the large blade, without increasing width between the liners. That means all the Cellidor single layer should be the same overall width, including the Escort which isn't shown. Likewise, the Windsor which is an Ambassador with stainless scales, also not shown, should be the same width as a Prince with stainless scales. The difference between the measured width of the Cellidor Prince and Ambassador had me puzzled for a while until I measured their widths at three points: key ring end above the pivots (concealed by the scales), middle, and T&T end above the pivots. Some bulge in the middle of the scales is normal and to be expected.
- Cellidor Prince: 8.3mm - 8.4mm - 8.2mm
- Ambassador: 8.5mm - 8.7mm - 8.3mm
Then looked at the two using 10x magnifier glasses. That is when I noted the larger liner bulge in the middle of the Ambassador. The only rivets are the pair of pivots at each end, similar to the 58mm. It's the same design concept. There are no riveted pivots or pins in the middle of the 74mm SAKs. The photo shows some of it. Conclusion regarding single layer 74mm SAKs: the width between the liners at the pivot points is the same on all of them, 2.2mm. The different single layer with stainless scales are essentially the same overall width and the different single layer with Cellidor scales are essentially the same overall width. Differences between specific examples are attributable to scales thickness variation and variation in how much the liners bulge in the middle of the SAK.

Does anyone have a Kershaw Skyline? If so, would you be willing to post a picture of that next to a 91mm SAK. The picture I am looking for is each with the main blade extended and looking from the back of the blade. I am trying to get a good feel for how much thicker the Skyline blade is to the SAK's main one. Thanks!

I did find this article showing a Kershaw blade next to a SAK blade, but not the spine.
I wish I could help, but I don't currently have any Kershaw, I have Chris Reeve, Emerson, if that is of any help.

Nice comparison shot of Wenger vs Delemont scales
I got a Wenger S101 today. I had the Delemont version of this in red and was looking for one with Evogrip scales and came across this Wenger version on ebay new for quite a reasonable price and picked it up, In the comparison, the Wenger is on the right and Delemont on left. Note how the Wenger scales cover the aluminum liners.
