When the link to the new TT PocketTools went live, I had to have them. All 4 of them. Four new one piece tools! The splurge cost me $82 dollars but it was worth it :mail:
They arrived today and I had to put at least one of them to work. >:D
But first, some pictures:
Here are 3 in their bags and the 4th out on the bed. It was this tool I used this evening.
Tool:
And it's labeled bag (A very nice touch!)
All the tools out in the wild:
Here's a comparison shot with an Atwood Chigger and G5 Prybaby:
The comment came up about thickness of the tools. Compared to a Chigger:
And next to a Roid Rench (my favorite EDC Atwood)
The finish on these tools is superb. The prytip is a little sharp, but will work as a scraper extremely well.
So how'd it perform? The bottle opener works. The fulcrum is short so it takes some force, but no slipping on bottle caps. The wrench is excellent on the TT-Chopper (don't quite get the name); the grip assist is perfectly placed for application of force. The TT-Keeper has much larger wrenches. Shorter fulcrum, but it holds tightly to the nut. It will function fine on low torqued nuts or to hold a spinning nut.
I don't know how functional the Skull will be but it makes an awesome keychain dangle.
For me: The Chopper is going on the keychain and we'll give it a proper work out. :D
-
I want a Keeper but I can't quite pull the trigger, being poor and all. :D
Keep us updated! :ahhh
-
They are great! Too bad he doesn't produce the ones with metric wrenches...
-
I like his tools, it's a shame that he doesn't make them with metric wrenches.
:D I didn't see that edcgear posted the same thing
-
Cool cannot wait to get mine although postage to the uk will take a bit longer.
-
Sharp looking. Pun intended. But there's always the possibility of hitting the box cutter and the pry tip a bit with a sharpening stone to individual preferences.
I'm sitting on the fence regarding the Chopper and eagerly await your field experience.
BTW, seems as if the design changed from symmetrical to asymmetrical like the Atwood wrenches?!
Though living in metric land, I have to admit that the non-metric wrenches aren't much of a disadvantage to me. EDC a Gen3 Prybaby on my keychain since years and all I ever use (albeit often) is the smallest wrench size for hex bits. These tools obviously have that covered.
-
Quick update:
The prytip is actually ground to be a standard screwdriver as well. On the Chopper an Keeper it works very well. The wrenches fit snugly. And the bottle openers work great.
On the Keeper, the opener works a little better. Also, the box opener is semi sharpened so it actually will function as a utility blade for string and cord. The wrenches are also much larger than the Chopper tool. For the farm setting, the Keeper is a definitely a keeper. The Chopper has smaller wrenches and would be better suited to electronics work, I think.
The small size is a definite plus IMO.
-
I agree, they are great tools. I use the skull as a small pry tool now. the others work better but this is so cool
-
Well my two arrived today. Not bad to the uk. Well I say two but the wife has claimed the skull tool. Still leaves me with the chopper. Not used too much on it just the bottle opener, which I can say works well.
-
Side note my chopper is magnetic. Anyone else's?
-
Damn you Nate, I now have a Chopper and simple on the way, my first venture into one piece tool too. :-[
Side note my chopper is magnetic. Anyone else's?
Suppose to be magnetic, it's a knife steel.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I have only recently thought about changing up my EDC for work and I am glad to have found the discussions about the Pocket Tools web site. Just bought the Chopper and now I think I will have to order the others :)
-
Got mine two today, first thought, they are well made though a little lacking on details, but jeez these are really small. I have no doubt they are strong enough due to their thickness, and knows their specs before hand, but look how tiny they are in my hands! If they are scaled up to 3" long they'd be a lot more respectable.
Going to put the smaller one on my keys, and see how the work out.

Hit the charity shops today looking for leather to recycle. Found the mother load in a pair of bike trousers. Medium size so never going to fit me but really good quality leather. Came home and made this from some thicker leather I already had plus a small piece taken from inside the front pocket.

And yes the chopper tool does come out

Hello guys. I have been in contact with the owner about once a week since I found his tools on eBay long ago. He told me yesterday that he was going to be doing some tools with black oxide coating. He has been making some prototype knife/prybar combo tools out of S30V. He told me that he has 2 almost complete, one for me and one for him, because I am the one that suggested the idea that he should make some after seeing how popular Mr. Atwoods Son Of Prythings have been. I assume sometime in the future he will be making these for sale. I will post some pics and do a review here when I receive it.
-
Awesome news!
Thanks for the heads up.
-
Alright guys I got some pictures of the new prybar/knife combo. It is being shipped out tomorrow so I will post a review when I receive it. This is a prototype so the finish is not as good of quality that the final production tools will be.

Like the orange kydex, that's different, cool :tu:...cool tool too :D
-
I'm not a particular fan of the various wrench/knife combos.. Ouch.. :P :P
-
It's interesting, but it needs a much, much smaller sheath for using those wrenches so you're not tempted to take the knife out of the sheath to do so. A fold over rather than pancake style.
-
Personally, I don't see how you could use the wrenches without having an exposed blade. Looks dangerous, but in a good way. :P
-
Looks cool but I don't think I'd get one, if the wrench slips that sharp edge/tip is going to meet something, and one of them is going to be damaged.
-
Looks pretty cool the designs are decent looking , my issue would be stubbyness, I don't know if they would be useful to me personally unless they produced a longer model or 5, I do like the price points though as I can only dream of owning an atwood now.
-
I have a skull TT on the way. I can't wait it's my first pocket tool :D
-
Cool. These are new to me. I like the simple one, I think I'll give that a try. I never need a bottle opener so I prefer key tools without them. Just about every other tool I have on me already has an opener anyway.

The compact is interesting. I'm not sure you could pry much with it, since the Simple is pretty little already...
-
Yeah their tools are deceptively small. The compact probably won't work for anything more than "steel fingernail" type of job.
-
Yup, but it's nice and I just love keychain tools, so I had to take it.

Me too. My simple arrived today and I love it. True, it is very small but that's what makes it perfect for edc keychain carry. Now I'm going to have to aquire everything this man makes...I still blame Grant for getting me into this mess. Pretty soon I'll be living under a bridge in a refrigerator box and talking to myself, but I'll have a hell of a lot of cool toys!
Stew...

Get in line- there are a lot of people blaming me!

I should have a 7 and leatherman bit holder coming soon
I wish I could take better pic's
I'm glad to be here
I've learned a lot from this forum I hope to keep learning and give back a little of what I know.
I should have joined long ago.
Thanks for the help Tattosteve99 :)
-
That fixed blade is very interesting. What do you think of it as an EDC knife?
-
I like the Clip Point Tool it's got a nice blade shape and size for a outdoor work knife.
It's handel maybe small for some but fit's my hands fine.
If I where to edc it I would para cord wrap the handel but it's my yard work knife so I like to have the wrench functions easily used.
It's more a tool than a knife to me.
It's not one of my edc blades
I will usually carry a folding knife but it has it's place and has done all the job's I've used it for well.
I wish the blade grind was a little more even but it was Todd's first try at making large knives I'm just picky :)
-
Great tools Jafro!!
I like them... Saw them earlier, but now I see them all in one place, they do look great!!
-
Thanks G.
It was nice to post my tool's and not get a bad time for it.
I'm waiting on the 7 and leatherman bit holder to do a group photo.
I didn't buy a keeper when I had the opportunity so I'll be on the hunt for it next.
-

I actually prefer the Keeper to the Chopper, but only because it fits much larger nuts.
-
The funny thing about the keeper is I had 5 of them at one time . More than any of his other tool's
I did a group buy from TT PocketTool's on a edc related forum about a year ago and I sold myself one keeper short so mine was sold.
I got to try trade for one this summer.

Thank You
I just got the 7 and leatherman bit holder today (http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc421/JAfromMn/IMG-20120508-01581.jpg)
I need the keeper and drop point tool for my collection to be complete
I'm working on it. :)

Here is a quick pic of the 7 and 7/10 side by side
I haven't seen a side by side pic yet and thought it may be of intrest to some.

Thanks for the comparison pic. The 7 and the 7/10 support a lot more closely sized metric and SAE nuts compared to other similar designed tools. Does this reduce the amount of torque you can apply to a nut or bolt? It is more likely to round the head or slip? Please share/compare!
The site claims that it can be used as a bottle opener but I don't have the imagination to see how. Mind posting a pic showing how to do this?
Cheers,
-Grog

I had to show a side by side pic since I got them both :)
I've used the 7/10 a little bit and I just got the 7 yesterday but I haven't noticed Any slippage when I have been playing around with it. I haven't done any real work with them yet.
I'm going to have to do a review of them with pic's. I got a fence to fix tomorrow and a few other things I will take them both with and give them some use that will tell me a lot.
I think the wrench has about the same bite as a lot of the pocket wrenches I've seen it goes quite a bit smaller so it adds a lot of sizes that way.
There also so small I don't know if I could use enough force to round off a head or slip
I haven't tried a lot of the different makers so it's hard for me to say it's any worse or better it works so far :mn:
The Bottle opener? it's not the same type of bottle this tool opens.
The twist assist is for removing hard to turn twist offs caps not pry off.
Good questions Grog I hope I answered some of them.
-
I'm looking forward to the review!
I had noticed that tools like the piranha often go over other size (6mm, 8mm, 10mm etc) but this one gives you ever size. Looking at the design, it seems like this would reduce the contact area the tools has for each sized nut. I have no idea if this is an actual problem or not.
So the "bottle opener" is for twist caps...
No wonder I couldn't see how to use it for pry off caps!
Thanks for the answers!
-
Just from looking at the photo, you may be able to use the wrench opening as a bottle opener, probably only works with the bigger one though.
-

I don't think it will work with them the opening is to small.
If the 7/10 was just a hint bigger it would.
Post 100 :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

After some research the 7/10 will open a beer.
I para cord wrapped my c.p.t..
It's more comfortable and secure to hack on stuff with.
I can still pry with it :D
I don't think it will fly out of my hand now :viking:

Thanks for spending my money guys. I have a skull on the way and I'll likely order more as they become available. I hate that I missed out on the capper last week.
-
I've had a Capper for three weeks or so, and it's far more effective as a bottle opener than I expected. Knowing me, it's down to poor technique, but I found it will lift a bottle top in a couple of goes. I've just mislaid my first rev Skull tool but have the second rev version on the way. I like the TT tools I've had so far; I get the sense a lot of thought goes into their design and they offer a lot of quality for the money. I do like the stock width on TT tools, this makes them comfortable to use and avoids the issue I've got with the Pocket Toolx Brewzer, Gerber Shard and the infamous, evil Navy CUI 2001, which is that they're bit too thin. For such a small tool, the Capper is comfortably wide and therefore easier to handle than I'd expected. The TT website indicates that a new batch of non-Ti Cappers is planned, and I think they will be well worth seeking out.
-
I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the new non-Ti cappers but I really wanted one of the Ti ones. I'll just have to keep an eye on ebay and exchanges.
-
Love my capper! Just wish I could put it on my keyring
-
Ive always thought that knife look a bit strange, and finally figured out why. Aesthetically too much straight portion on the edge, doesn't go well with all the curves.
-
Missed out on the Ti capper it wasn't in the budget.
I'I have been trying to collect all the tt tool's but the budget's the budget.
I do not own a Keeper or Capper. I keep missing out on his best bottle openers.
Good thing I don't Drink much. :D
-
One thing is for sure, the prices are pretty reasonable :tu:
-
Just got myself a Chopper in the mail. Used it over the weekend.
Good design, but I wish it was a tad bit longer...hrmm..where to find some S30v lying around to chuck up on the plasma cutter.
-
Question to those that have the chopper with the box cutter option. Is this safe to carry in a pocket or would there be potential for accidents?
-
Question to those that have the chopper with the box cutter option. Is this safe to carry in a pocket or would there be potential for accidents?
It's not as sharp as you think. It's about as sharp as a ball point pin nib.
-
I've got the second version of the TT Skull, which has the same type of box opener on it as the new verison of the Chopper. I've carried it to work in a pocket without any problems. I don't think the new Chopper would prove to be unsafe for carry for handling because the box opener isn't a cutting edge as such - it's just a way of allowing the tool to bite into tape more effectively. From my experience, I can't see the Chopper with box opener being dangerous to carry.
-
I've carried my box cutting Chopper in my back pocket for a year or so now and I've never had a issue with it poking me or ripping my pants.
-
Took a good pic of my Pocket Edge I had to share. It may be my favourite pocket tool. (http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc421/JAfromMn/IMG-20121108-02414.jpg)

PS it's a handy little edge and NOT crappy at all :D

Hey, looks like someone found his way here from CGN. :D It's smaller than it looks on photo, I thought it was bigger when I ordered mine.

I don't know if you will be able to find one.
I asked Todd "tt" how many L.B.T.'S he made. Less than 50 was his answer.
If there's enough interest I can ask him to make a 2nd batch.
-
I'm the happy owner of a LBT myself (neener neener :P). Truth be told, it's a great idea that allows you to use your bits in a pinch. That said, it is only good for low torque situations, as the LBT is too small to provide any real leverage and its metal corners tend to dig into your fingers when pushed beyond some point. I still keep it in my LM bit card, but also always have the LM bit extender and a Vic ratchet with it for the tougher cases.
-
I would be very interested in an LBT, myself. Also, the larger erosion of his dog bone wrench that's out of production.
-
I lost my LBT :(
But truth be told, it didn't work any better than putting a 1/4" bit in a 1/4" socket.
Still it was very handy in a Leatherman bit sheath.
-
Patiently waiting for more Choppers to be released into the wild.
-
I echo the last post.
I was too late to get one of the last batch of TT Choppers.
More are being made as we speak. Ditto some new ones.
I will buy one or more.
I have EDC a Gerber Shard and Artifact , good tools for ther price, but they are mass produced products , and the Phillips screwdriver part is rubbish.
I like tools that work !!

very few where ever made. I'm sure less than 50.
I should have got two. Its so small and easy to lose.

I'm still going to wish you luck finding it.
I have a feeling it's going to turn up.
:P

Just recently became the happy owner of a TT PocketEdge, so had to add to the post.
I've had it for around 3 weeks, and have already lost track of the number of times I've used it... everything from opening boxes, to slicing up pipe insulation, tightening annoying drawer handles, opening bottles (probably more times than I should have..), and in between.
Haven't had much call to pry anything with it, strip wire, or carry around a hex bit for use with it, but so far very happy.

I love skulls and wanted a TAD skelekey but wasnt spending that kind of dough. I saw these and got 2 straight away. When they arrived which was super fast i was very impressed. now amittedly i got them for the skull cool ness factor but i have used them and they work nicely. when i happened to look at the web site later that day i saw the zombie and ordered it as well. now i temporarily banned myself from his site till i get some other NEEDED items. I wear them on ball chains so they are close at hand as i dont like fumbling with my stuff on my keys when i need a quick cut or what have. they are so pretty i feel they deserved to be worn like jewelry.

You will have to tell us how you like the zombie.
I almost sure you'll like the edge.
I love mine.
