Title: Whats new for 2017?
Post by: Fattsgalore on January 12, 2017, 03:17:59 AM
I've been out of SAKs for a while now. Bought a Spirit late 2015 and haven't had the need or want to buy another SAK since...The Spirit is that damn good!

I recall right at the launch of the Pioneer X (so early 2016) Victorinox mentioned "big things coming in 2017" and was wondering has anything been teased?
I'm hoping for a smaller lighter Spirit. Something aimed right at the Leatherman Juice share of the market, or for Victorinox to reinvigorate their 74mm & 84mm line of knives.

The Pioneer X was voted MT of the Year here :tu:

But nope nothing has been said about anything in 2017 yet I am afraid :-\ Hope to see big things from them as well :tu: :like: :like:

and welcome back to :MTO: Fattsgalore

Well, at least 91mm sak's without back tools are a possibility. The last time I went to Vic's rep to buy 91mm scales they asked me if it was with the back cut or without. I was like: but there is no 91mm cellidor without backcut... He was like: Ooops forget I mentioned mate... Top secret eheh  :D

I predict that:
1) they'll discontinue a popular model for no apparent reason
2) reissue an old model with a new name, pretending it's the best thing since sliced bread
3) release yet another range of overpriced outdoor gear for urbanites to tackle the daily commute in
4) some old smurf about a new fragrance.

Meh, I can't be bothered.  Useless company. ::)

Easy chaps. H is just after your attention. He likes to act provocatively so I say let's not rise to it. We all know he loves SAK's. I would go as far as to say that he's a SAK's maniac or indeed, a SAK's addict.

Although if they were to make 91 mm or 93 mm spirit I might have to change my mind and retire my LM mini...  :D
Title: Re: Whats new for 2017?
Post by: twiliter on January 13, 2017, 02:26:31 PM
I don't expect a Farmer X in 2017, but I didn't expect a Pioneer X ever, so maybe I'm not good at predictions. It would be nice to see a 4 layer alox model of any kind. If it were up to me, there would be a Pioneer X with either a saw or a file, with keyring or without, and Vic name stamped into the engraving plate like some of the 58mm alox models of the past, oh, and in a a full spectrum of colors of course! This is how bad I am at predictions, as none of this is likely to happen in my lifetime, much less 2017.  :P
Title: Re: Whats new for 2017?

Why not a farmer X? As far as I know it is one of the more anticipated knifes from vic. If they miss this chance it would be as if Apple missed the chance to remove the 3.5 jack...  :o

I think the problem is that they've stopped making 84mm scissors :-(

Took a while to track down a not too expensive old Golfer for my Cadet (II) X Mod for the scissors!

That and the old inline fine screwdriver tool (like on the discontinued Technician) are two tools I wish they still made!

I would buy a Spartan with a fork, but I happen to like the 84mm format for tools like this.
Come to think of it, adding a fork to the Delemont EvoGrip S101 would be better still.

In the Victorinox episode of Ultimate Factories, Mr. Elsener showed a prototype that had a fork,  but it was mentioned that the things that many use their SAKs on would make it too unsanitary.

I have this crazy idea that the big news for 2017 will be a merger of the 85mm former Wenger and 91mm Victorinox lines... there's a crazy amount of tool crossover; the potential is there to move to one size but provide more variety in tool combinations. Some loved tools would go in the process (eg. Do we need two scissor and two plier designs?). Some others could be nicely combined (eg. Evogrip plus scales; lock blades).

This may be far too radical...

I don't think this is likely since part of the deal seems to have been to keep the Delemont factory running. It would make much more sense to remove the Victorinox 84 mm line since they are much closer to each other and the 84 mm line has been in a sad state in regards to tool alternatives for a really long time. If they just make sure to bring back a more traditional scale I think that could prove to be a good idea.

+1 for a return of the Classic scale option. Much as I like the Evolution/EvoGrip scales, they add thickness to what should be a smaller knife.

It wouldn't be press-worthy, but a wider array of bits for the CyberTool would be nice and something to sell to current owners as well as new  buyers.

And ya know, MiniChamp XAVT would be cool :P

Yeah, more Cybertool bits would be great, Do you have the extra bits that the Swisschamp XLT had? I've only been able to source three of them (from Pizzini), still after the extra flat drivers for my CT29:

This topic has gone off the rails and traversed some dark waters. The quagmire.
I'm afraid to ask anymore...

Indeed I do! Would like more hex sizes, and maybe even a tiny phillips since there's no tiny phillips for the corkscrew (another thing they should make!)

Where did you manage to get the bit with the flat screwdrivers on both ends? I've been having problems tracking that one down, at least from somewhere with sensible postage rates

I wonder if Vic may start to cut back on models that are fairly similar to each other, to consolidate a bit and run a little leaner company. From various comments I've seen concerning Q&A, so many special editions, legal BS being thrown at modders, etc., I get the impression the company is being run more by the accountants than those who actually care about the product.

I don't pay to close attention to all the various cellidor models and sizes since I'm pretty much just a 93mm alox person, but to me it just seems there are a lot of various models that are really close to each other with the exception of perhaps one tool or something like that.

I'd guess they'll do their dozen or two of special ultra collectible different shades of the same color alox runs as well. :)

I have to admit that maybe I'm stuck in the past but Vic really hasn't done anything to get me too jacked up, can't wait to buy, for a long time.

I would so much like to see alox or similar scales with scale tools and a yeoman in that configuration!

I still like that desert soldier, and the national park ones are purdy. The fact that we've already known about all these is par for the course. I actually don't think Victorinox reveals new stuff at SHOT Show, do they?

No way. Everyone would buy the ultimate SAK, and after that sales would drop to near zero.

Totally agree, nothing new in this video, just regular models with fancy scales. I'm not saying they're not cool, but more good for collectors than for users.
Being mostly a user myself and a die hard fan of the classic cellidor red scaled sak's what I would love to see is actual new models, new tools and tool configurations. As for fancy scales, they should just sell them freely to the public so one buys a regular model and slap some new fancy scales on it if one chooses to. But then again they couldn't charge a collector's item price tag on them.... ::)

I am good with this, I wanted one of the limited edition UK military alox in a similar colour to this, but not the silly price and box that went with them.
I see a user and a shelf queen in my future

*also was it just me or was that video of "new stuff" so last year?
