So I wanted to make a BBQ small enough to take car camping, no holes in the bottom to protect the grass
I was going to wait before posting so I could show it in action, but time ::) ...
Dumped Gas bottle and a charity shop fruit bowl
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/Fire/DSC03180%20b.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/Fire/DSC03180%20b.jpg.html)
Need some sort of jig to do a level cut
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/Fire/DSC03285.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/Fire/DSC03285.jpg.html)
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/Fire/DSC03286.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/Fire/DSC03286.jpg.html)
Yep that works
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/Fire/DSC03291.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/Fire/DSC03291.jpg.html)
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/Fire/DSC03293.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/Fire/DSC03293.jpg.html)
Cut some bits off the bottom
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/Fire/DSC03298.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/Fire/DSC03298.jpg.html)
Give him a smile :-\
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/Fire/DSC03299.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/Fire/DSC03299.jpg.html)
Chop up the fruit bowl
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/Fire/DSC03303.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/Fire/DSC03303.jpg.html)
Added cake rack (might need more work  )
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/Fire/DSC03585.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/Fire/DSC03585.jpg.html)
Just need to test it now, probably not much good for backpacking :D
-
I can't begin to tell you how excellent that is!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Now that is cool!
Nice job.
That's us mobile.
Nate
-
Like!!!
-
Thanks Guys :salute:
I am hoping it will ‘draw’ when there’s a fire or I will have to drill a few extra holes
I’m sure Smashie and Mr W are reaching for their disc cutters as we speak
-
Very interesting! But good job :tu:
JR
-
Nice work Sparky Bloke :tu: So when are you taking it for a test drive?
-
Very cool tony :salute: look forward too seeing it in action :tu:
-
Nice work Sparky Bloke :tu: So when are you taking it for a test drive?
Yeah, I'll take a steak, medium well that is! lol
JR
-
Oh wow what a great shape!
As long as the fruit bowl is up high enough you should get enough air flow down there. I only use charcoal. Yum.
-
Not sure if it will get used this year but we will see....
Mmmmm steak
Megan there’s ¾” under the bowl, I’m hoping it will be enough :)
-
What did you use the Bananas for?
-
Vibration dampers?
-
sustenance, it was going to be a long project :)
-
Burning Bananas (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTZx4eIHbqQ) :ahhh
-
That lad has too much time on his hands but I like his BBQ thingy :)
-
I actually tried it and it worked. It would have been better if I had pressed them...they were a bit crumbly. I found people using small presses improvised with caulk guns and PVC tubing.
-
I actually prefer mine between two slices of bread an butter with salty crisps on top (chips to you)
-
So a friend did me a favour and didn’t want any money, I knew he liked my little BBQ.... ::)
So now I need to make myself another one from the left over bits
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/2016/DSC05386.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/2016/DSC05386.jpg.html)
Chop chop :D

Need to take the top off and make a base :)
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/2016/DSC05389.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/2016/DSC05389.jpg.html)
Getting there

That going to work ok
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/2016/DSC05392.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/2016/DSC05392.jpg.html)

I've had a couple old bottles waiting for a few years now, just haven't got around to deciding on a design and going for it.
-
Z
You probably know that you have to fill the bottles with water first to get the gas out :ahhh
And if you don’t have a disc cutter a jig saw will work as well
I used metal hole cutters and a jigsaw for the smile
-
Aye, thanks mate.
-
When can we expect pics of grilled sausages and other delicious meaty things? :D
-
I need to make a grill thingy to go on the top,
then I will have a go at incinerating something :D
-
I'm glad you updated this one- I think I missed it the first time around!
Looks great! Very, very cool!
Def
-
Thanks Boss,
As you can see they are easy to do :)
-
For Smashie,
who for some reason  is reluctant to hack up a pressurized calor gas bottle with a disc cutter...
Balloon gas bottle (Helium ;) )

Didn’t draw well so make holes in top bigger and add vent below door
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/2016/DSC05798.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/2016/DSC05798.jpg.html)
Works a bit better, takes ten minutes to boil 1 pint of water

Sorry to hijack. Great concept. I did mine almost the same 20 years ago and still going strong. On the 4th ash grit now. Chimney and legs screw off and fit inside. Had 3 paint jobs in all these years.
-
That one looks Great Gohard
-
Thanks. If you need more picture I can send it your way.
-
I don't need any more pictures thanks,
I can see it's very well thought out with nice welds :tu:
-
Nice welds or nice grinding??
-
It looks Great from where I'm sitting Gohard :D
And it's good to meet another fan of the disc cutter :salute:
-
Here's another Idea for you. I joined 2 gas bottles and made a smoker and rotisserie all in one.
-
Thanks. Sorry to hijack. Love that one of yours. No need for legs. Now to get another old bottle
-
Hijacking like that is very welcome :tu:

I can't imagine eating a fire to be very relaxing?
Great stuff Tony and Gohard. I'd like to build something like Gohard's first one. There is a similar commercial offering called and Ozpig which costs around $350+
-
Thanks Rob. Hahaha. Seen the Ozpig. Funny thing is that When I saw them a few years ago I thought he copied my idea. His is real simple and easy and looks great with all the accessories. Cant see me paying $350.

Add some nice dry wood, That works :tu:

The water is boiling :D but I think I need to drill a few more holes for better airflow,
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/2017/DSC07180.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/2017/DSC07180.jpg.html)

A few holes down lower and that thing will glow! Stainless steel?
-
I've had a couple old bottles waiting for a few years now, just haven't got around to deciding on a design and going for it.
Another year on and I still haven't done anything.
-
Rob there is 30mm hole in the very bottom (was the top) so I thought I will give it a try out,
will add a few when I get a min
Yep Stainless :tu:
Z :pok: :D

:D Noted.

Thanks Taz.

So two old bottles came out of storage today.
One is venting but the other has a kosan valve and will have to wait until I find an old hose to use.

I'm  with Rob :D
-
Realized I could just unscrew the kosan adapter, done.
The bottle isn't quite empty though so I'll put it on the bbq to be used up.
-
One step closer. First bottle not a problem. Second bottle took a bit more effort.

1-2-3-4-5 Yep still got all your fingers and thumb on your left hand :tu: you are off to a good start :D
Was the thread clockwise or anti? I can never remember
-
Anti to remove. Now to decide on a simple design. Or two...
-
Anti to remove. Now to decide on a simple design. Or two...
It is only the line side of the tap that is anti clock to tighten on gas, so non gas things can't be connected.
And two is better than one :pok:
-
My work is next to a scrap metal processing site. I've spied skips full of empty gas bottles :ahhh, wonder if I could score some off them?

Got to be worth having a chat with one of the lads there, someone on the inside ;) I'm too old and clumsy to be climbing over fences :D

Yeah go for it Taz. :tu:

Picked up a discarded wheel last week. Cut the tyre off today. Should make a good base.

Hmm, as expected, they don't sell scrap to the public, and as I don't actually know anyone who works there, I don't have an inside contact. Oh well, will just have to keep an eye out elsewhere...
-
That's a bugger, it's a bit like that over here too many rules and jobsworh's :(

They are made out of 9kg gas bottles (the same as the others are using).
Someone asked the manufacturer if they can make sea mine ones on the Facebook page where I saw these. I think he said "sure, if you can find a sea mine".

The Mine with Porthole door is pretty sweet. Quite a visual conversation piece for a home too!
