Tell me about it... Everytime I see this thread I read it as "The OCD Club +".
I have a couple of these...working on finding a pic or two.
Yes, that's normal for the older ones. They didn't polish them like the newer knives.
Got this today, cleaning it up. I'm noticing diagonal "grain" on the cap lifter and can opener, like it was ground down and machined but not polished? Very uniform "grain" that extends onto the tang (it didn't happen after the tools were installed on the knife). Is this the normal surface for these? it's definitely machining and not wear.
I have a couple of these...working on finding a pic or two.

Yes it is TP. They are advertising scales from Cascades who make "tissue products".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascades_(company).
The original knife was a Pioneer Settler which is where the "rare" 93mm small clip point blade came from. It was always going to be a user so most of the tools are from used knives. Other Donors were a 91mm Explorer, a 93mm Pioneer and a 93mm Solo. Only the Solo was a new knife but there is still quite a few dollars invested in this build.
Eagle eyed viewers will notice that the scissors are on different ends in these two photos... Well, I can't stop fiddling with some of my mods. It is about to undergo another strip and rebuild as test mule for my "cheapo" brass pivots as soon as the screws arrive (they are literally on a slow boat from China).

The Solo spring is for the Scissors. The mag glass and Phillips fit on a normal Pioneer blade layer spring.

You do that. Always loved alox and I still consider them as the "first" and best multitools. Although I haven't got many, I cherish each one.
Thanks so much guys! There are so many great and impressive ALOX examples in this thread!!!!
I did remember that I had this fairly recent (Jan) pic of the ALOX group...just ignore the Soldiers. Thinking about the ones in boxes, I only have about 25 or so Old Cross.

I got it and scrubbed it with a Baking Soda and water paste , chipped scale-like residue from all the blade tang areas , then oiled & buffed up with rag. It is snappy as new , and ready to be toted again! :ahhh 8)

+1. Excellent collection Joe. :tu:
This is a handful from my dresser that I pretty much rotate thru. Although lately I've found myself carrying the Suva three bladed one quite a bit. About all these have been thru the modders to add eblades. Can't help it, I love electricians. The alox knives, not the repair guy. I just like him.Can you please give me any info on the titanium stonewashed electrician :salute:
My new/like new, and other keepers are safely ensconced in a climate controlled, offshore, secure facility. And I'm way too lazy to fetch them for pics.
The blue cross pioneer/soldier one is kind of an odd piece I just got off the auction site. Another collector in Canada has one just like it. He mentioned they aren't very common. So I guess I'll just clean it up and store it.
And I know I'm cheating with the ALM Ti one, but it is in the shape of the old cross. ;)

I have run across some threads where I had no clue to their meaning (e.g., SI Club). When I saw OC Club +, I was stumped as to the meaning. Just like the SI, another alox-related thread--Old Cross!
I think I need to beat a hasty retreat before I want to start looking for Old Cross SAKs. :)

Very nice SAK Gustophersmob!
What's the story on your watch strap in the pic? It looks pretty cool too.
Just found the Old Cross Club, and happy to report in with my meager bunch.
Left to Right:
- Cadet with letter opener mod. I replaced all the tools except the nail file myself (twice, actually; hence the messy rivets). I liked the letter opener so carried it over.
- Cadet II. Again, bought 2nd hand and I replaced all the tools myself. Did a little better job on the rivets on this one.
- Voyageur. I NEED a red specimen if anyone out there reading this has a spare for sale.... :)
- Wenger Standard Issue. One of the few Wengers in my collection. This knife came from LL Bean originally and I have its original box. A real gem for Bean nerds like me.
- Pioneer. Just arrived this week from our capable and friendly moderator, SteveC, and what a very fine knife it is indeed.
- Safari. I am the original owner of this knife. Although retired now, it was used as a tool in my workshop for a long time. Sales receipt is dated March 22, 1985.

Added another red OC Pioneer to the stash today. The main blade had some unsightly scratches, but some 000 steel wool and a bit of patience are working wonders.

I don’t have a before picture, but here’s an “in progress” shot. The scratches ran from the edge to the spine and are mostly gone now. I won’t try to get it back to a mirror polish; I’m shooting for a relatively uniform “satin” look.

For me it’s the condition that is important
Nice scales and good condition tools :D
I may have posted this here or on some other threads... forgive me if I have...(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191004/85abdb26ec4bc3c45b93bedfcb1756f2.jpg)Like that black OC

Fabulous knives - I’d love an OC Pioneer, but no luck so far, and Myron - you’ve been fortunate to get a ‘65 Soldier, my BYSAK too!! It looks in excellent condition too! :hatsoff:

Very nice, Kamakiri - those OC red scales just zing! :like: :like:
Quite lovely Kamakiri! And I think the box is rarer than the Pioneer. Congratulations.

:ahhh very very nice Kamakiri :like::cheers:
Bumpity.
Currently my only old cross. A pioneer with a 1985 dated blade.
Yeah, they’re out there. Seems some years are more common than others. I’ve seen several 85, 97, 98, and 99. I used to have two OC electricians with 99 dated blades.
The theories I’ve heard is they were either factory repairs or left over soldier blades. Since my 99 electricians were bought by me new in package at Target back in the day, I kind of doubt that repairs are the real reason.
Edit to add: there’ are two 97 dated pioneers and an 85 and 98 dated electricians on eBay right now (no affiliation with the sellers).
Pioneer and Farmer...The Pioneer looks absolutely pristine. I'd be scared smurfless to carry it! But acquisition of an OC Pioneer has bumped way up on my priority list...if ever I can find one at the right price.

You know you want one……or 15.Oh dear God, yes! I spotted a Popular on eBay, but the start bid is a little much.
My current OC collection.
Across the bottoms row is Pioneer, Farmer and a Harvester.
Top one is my shelf queen Pioneer. Not sure it’s even been used.

I only have two OC's left after some downsizing over the past few years and they're both shelf queens. That's exactly what I'd do with those. They're absolutely stunning!
:like:Thanks g :tu:
Beautiful!
Is that writing/engraving on the farmer’’s scale?
Thanks g :tu:
Yes, someones engraved a name straight on to the alox but I can’t quite make out what it says  :dunno:
What do you think, - Fierere - maybe?

Beautiful OC trio John. :like:
Red OCs are probably the most beautiful SAKs ever. (just my opinion)
The engraving could perhaps mean *Aaron*
I once found Georges' knife at a flea market.

Wow, I can’t make that out at all. I can see if it could be Fierere or Aaron even as Sneider suggests
So glad this thread lives! I carry my Yeomaneer every day....:like: a particularly useful tool selection while remaining slim :tu:
