Title: Onyx Additions
Post by: 1jump2many on October 07, 2009, 05:54:28 AM
After reading Mr. Whippy's thread I "needed" to add a Timekeeper to my collection.  The original, not the mods he did such a great job on.  I went to this store I've been meaning to check out that I thought had a decent selection of SAK's.  It seems that they have a decent selection of old stock.  They had the Timekeeper and also had several Onyx Translucent scaled SAK's.  I picked up a Onyx Voyager and an Onyx Signature Lite.  I had neither in any scale type so I thought I would go with the Onyx.

+1 for onyx. I think they look sharp. Let's see some pics of the new additions!

I think the Timekeeper is a really cool classic!  I thank you for turning me on to it.  I don't know the answer to your question about the onyx scales.  Unfortunately I didn't look at the other onyx models they had at the store.  I think they had two other onyx models but I can't remember for certain.

This place had a rather different way of displaying their SAK's.  They had a section of wall about the size of a door.  All the SAK's were hanging from their keyrings, attached to the wall.  You lifted up the knife and underneath was the name, scale color and number.  Once I decided which SAK's I wanted a clerk went into the back room to see if they had them in stock and grabbed them if they did.

Here are a few pictures, as requested.   :D

Notice the scales on the Voyager are not polished onyx.  I guess they are translucent onyx nylon, aka Polyamide?

Nice pics!  I have an Onyx Voyager.

I'm not sure if I have any other in Onyx scales, but maybe a somewhat used Classic or something from an ebay lot.

What did they want for the Timekeeper?

That colour just doesn't do anything for me.

However, very nice knives.  :tu:

I forgot about the onyx scales until the big cybertool sale.  I was hoping they had that in the Onyx, but alas, they did not.  Might have to see if rotokid has any.

The Timekeeper was $55.  Probably a little high but I wanted it bad.   :ahhh

It's not my favorite color either, but they seem to be harder to find these days so when I saw them I jumped at them.  I could have gotten the Voyager in Red too but went with the onyx because it seemed more rare.

That's not too bad, I think that's basically the going price, which is a lot lower that what they originally wanted for them.  It's funny that they are popular now, they were not very popular when first introduced.  I think it was last year, or maybe the prior one, when they started liquidating them.  I'd probably buy a spare if I had the chance.  If anyone wants to send me just the Watch Part I'm looking for one of those.

I had a spare timekeeper, but BabyHawkChucker now owns it, and likes it actually from what I have heard.
