I was across town and stopped by that Lowes tonight where upon browsing the knife/tool selection noticed a SOG Powerlock hanging on the hook.
A couple things strike me right off:
First - no piano locks. I HATED the piano locks.
Second - the torx screws replaced the hex bolts.
I paid $56 total with coupon and upon examining it am quite pleased. This is the one I wanted with V-cutter. I had one years ago and miss that tool.
The only thing I really don't care for is the ratchet bit adapter. I may replace that with a canadian driver or something. I'm pretty happy to see the quality is still there. I took a gamble with this as the last SOG I bought was a Cross Cut and that was just awful.

No piano locks? Pictures? Why do you hate them? I admire the intricacy of them myself. To me they exude build quality.

I'm loving it. Had the jaws not broken on mine years ago we probably wouldn't have had such a hiatus apart from eachother.
You know what's funny though - I find the Surge too big and heavy yet make no qualms about the size of the PL. I take back everything negative I said about SOG over the years, it's a fine tool :tu: :tu:

Just give it time. You will hate it once again sooner or later.

Indeed, I have a big bag of SOG parts leftover from my previous obsession.

How do they offer it so cheap? What's the catch ???

I would say it is some stock they are trying to get rid of.
