Anyone own a Sterling Silver Classic SD? I had never seen one in person until yesterday and at first couldn't figure out what it was. First of all it wasn't in the type of store I would have expected to sell a Sterling Classic SD and secondly the one on display was tarnished so I didn't realize what it was. The place had two of them. The price seemed to be pretty good though at $85. Especially compared to what I have seen them selling for on the Internet. Although $85 for a Classic SD seems high even if it has Sterling Silver Scales. I was just curious what others thought about them and how collectible they are.

So when I had the clerk take it out of the case the first thing I noticed was the weight, like you mentioned. I was confused at first until I realized it was a Sterling Classic SD that was tarnished. Actually, they had a second one in a box and I pulled it out and then it dawned on me what it was. Do you think $85 is a good price?

From the prices I've seen of online retail stores, with the exception of the collectible ones, yeah $85 is, depending on the style. http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=VN301 has Spiral Band Pattern Sterling Classics for $50, but that's the absolute cheapest I've ever seen. Note that retail price for that style is $80, so, it simply depends on style, variation, and so on.

The "regular" Sterling Classics could be bought online (from Amazon, among others) for anywhere from $40-90, depending on the pattern (there is a handful) and promoitions/sales. The Tiffany version is a different story, and the NIB piece would set you back by $100 - $150. Tiffany's is the only one with T&T. All of them are very nice, with nice weight, but the silver gets scratched easily, so slipsheath carry would be a good idea.

These two were the Polished Sterling. Each one came with a little gray leather sheath. I've seen the same thing now on Amazon for pretty much the same price. Even after comparing Shipping & Handling to the amount of tax I would have to pay. I think I was a little more excited about them because it is the same store I found the Leatherman Juice Kf4's. It's a tool store, and they had some old stock in the case. They also had a Timekeeper with Roman Numerals that came with a compass and ruler.

I should have known that not only would you have one, but pretty much all of them. :D Yes, you are right, I do want one. I....am....trying.....to.....resist....... I'm sure as usual, resistance will be futile. I like the polished one but after seeing your lineup I like the looks of the Hammered model too. :ahhh

The hammered style is a fave :) I'm not big on the 58mm line but I certainly have a soft spot for the silver ones.

Yeah, they feel sturdier because of their weight. I'm starting to like the hammered one the best.

Are you talking about the fifth one from the left? That is the one Victorinox's web site has listed as "Hammered". The third from the left looks custom.

I bought that one at Felinevet. He called it a Space Classic.
I did see a second Space Classic sold on eBay two months after getting this one. The one that Magnus is asking about, is also seen on eBay every now and then, usually with the title of "hand Engraved Sterling Silver Classic". So these aren't one offs from what little I know.
