I have just got in from having a fantasic day out with our good friend Micky d. :) We organised today's meet not too long ago as we both happened to have a Saturday off which is a pretty rare occasion. This was the second time me and Mike had met up (besides the UK meet) and as I went over his way last time, it was decided that he should come explore over my way this time. So I picked up Mike from the train station near mine and we head off to a national trust area close by in a place called Toys Hill.
The meet started with the usual looking at each other's blades and multitools which was great. Mike had brought a few SAK's including his Cadet which was modded by our very own NKB (Neil that SAK was fantastic! :tu:) and also a few torches and other pieces to look at. He also brought along a kukri that he had really helped me get hold of. Many thanks for that pal. ;) :) As requested from the man himself, I brought along a couple of folders and a few SAK's, including my old Soldier which I brought along to torment him with. :pok: :D
In the middle of looking at all the toys, and whilst my newly aquired Kukri was laying on the back seat, I looked behind us to see a police car creeping along very close to my car :o :police:. After a couple of minutes the car moved on so me and Mike could breathe once again. Shortly after we packed up and headed out for a bit of a walk around.
Well the walk very quickly turned into an uphill hike :D (and a very muddy one at that) and I swear we kept going up and up but never actually went down any hills . Still Mike and I kept walking on and after seeing a few sights and talking A LOT we must have covered a good 4+ miles.
After returning to the car, we went up the road to a nice pub that I know and had some well deserved grub. Here we continued to waffle about all things sharp (can you actually imagine me and Mike together?!? :D) and about MTO and SOSAK. It is great to spend time chatting to someone who enjoys the same hobby as you do.
It really was a great day out, which DIDN'T see any rain (a first for me and Mike :D) and I can't wait to meet up again. Below are some pics which I took. Sorry there aren't many, but I think we were doing to much talking. :D

Though it had been a bit quiet today :P :D Sounds like you had a great day :)
-
I'm suprised you two don't meet more often. Looked up on map and you are half an hour of drive away from each other for christ's sake, I used to drive that far everyday to and from school.
-
Wait a minute there was a pub? Il be there in 32 hrs.

Small things like work and family make it difficult.
Oh a FYI, it's about 45 mins.

Yep it was a fantastic day alright :), clear skies, warmish sun and good-ish company :D
So after a bit of a hectic early morning, I hopped on the train to Sevenoaks to meet up with Ben for what promised to be a great day out, and I'm happy to say I wasn't disapointed :)
After picking me up and taking the pair of us up to the forest, we pulled into the carpark and did the obligatory blade fondle that seem's to happen everytime one of us Brit's bump into one another :D, I'm sorry to say that the quantity of tool's was a bit limited as I was coming by train, so bringing any of my more interesting blades would have been a big no-no as I was taking enough of a risk bringing Ben's Kukri down with me :o, despite having it wraped and secured in a sturdy box (yes really :D) so bringing anything else that was non legal was a bit out of the question . Fortunately that didn't stop Ben :D, who brought that gorgeous Handwerker from his excellent comparison review, which I've got to say is every bit as good in the flesh , his brass Farmer, which open's far more sweetly than even my new Farmer's do :), his gorgeous custom Slippie and Woodie were also in attendances too, as was his King's Cross Slapper Supertool :D. Not to mention the Sebbie (that splashing sound is Dunc drooling :D) and that bloody 57 Soldier to taunt me with too
Then after a brief scare with the FUZZ :o, we were off a walking :)
Now young Ben know's I've got a knackered foot from a motorbike crash, so did he pick a nice leisurely route ???, did he bo*****ks >:(, up bloody hill's and down bloody dales we went, mired in mud, water and horse crap the whole way ::) :D But I jest :D, it was a long, tricky walk through some beautyful woodland with gorgeous young Birches (my favourite tree) as far as the eye can see :) and challenging accents :)
After resting several times to allow Ben to smoke >:( and for me to get my breath back into my old and enfeebled body , we carried on, to this very strange, but really interesting Bat sanctuary that was home to a sizable flock of Piperstrello Bats (of which I bored Ben to death with some fact's :-[)
Shortly before this we were attacked by some wild bore, fortunatly I had the presence of mind to push Ben from there murderous path and draw my mighty Swisschamp!,after a lengthy battle Ben just had time to get a shot of me dispatching the last of the bore's :D
After about 3hours we desided that this walking malarky really is best left to horse's, so we did the traditional very British thing and retired to the nearest pub :D, which was a charmingly quaint little place, a really traditional english tavern, bizarly enough run by Germans  :D
So inevitably the conversation (my God you have no idea just how much crap we can talk, without repeating ourselves :D) returned once more to all thinks sharp and shiney, and you miserable fine upstanding members :D, and I reminded myself several times that shouting the best aspects of a Kukri is perhaps not the best thing to do in a pub in Britain right now ::) :D
All too soon it was time to catch the train home again , as poor Ben had spent a grand total of almost 7.5 hours in my company which is really far too much to ask of anyone (ask anyone who know's me :D) so we called it a day with me grabing my bike, and heading for the train, and him heading home to his now pink haired wife :D
I'd like to say thanks to Ben for a truly great day out, it was just what the doctor ordered, and I can't wait for the next one

It was quite a close call with the bobbies. :o It was a good job there were a few cars parked up or we may have been in a spot of bother.

Well nigh impossible after you turn 50 years old
The two of you had a great time it looks like...but next time you two decide to have a mini meet...let someone here know ahead of time, just in case the local constabulary decides to be a bit more interested, and you need bail money :D
-
I can only imagine all the banter between them 2 :o
Look how much they communicate on a forum in forum time ::)
In real time I don't believe another person would be able to get a word in edgewise  :D

Thanks for the comments fellas :tu:
Now get planning your own meet's :pok: :pok:

That police car was Flash's Seb procurement patrol :o :D. Ben I wonder if your home insurance would cover police stealing your prized knife :D. If they had pulled you over can they search your car with out a reason ? Would the knives have been permanently confiscated , or would you be issued with a fine ?
Sounds like you had fun guys :D :D.
-
Dudes, dudesses and Beckyd :D
Remember, they can't search your car without reasonable suspicion.
Also, you may have an argument regarding "reasonable excuse" with regards to fixed blades etc etc
The fact that you are on your way to a meet up (it may help your case if you posted you intentions on this forum before hand and then can refer back to this if needed) and that you can show your credentials as collectors by reference to the forum and any others you are members of (BB SOSAK etc etc).
As mentioned above...this MAY be an argument.
If I stopped you, I would buy it :police:

Well, 2 dodgy looking blokes parked up in a Vitara in a secluded car park certainly would have looked suspicious to me. :D

I think having a
big huge curved blade on the back seat would class as reasonable grounds for a once over of the vehicle ;)
Posting what you're up to in advance might not be a bad idea though.

Very nice day you 2
it's sounds like a good time, buds, sharpies, saks and no MTs?! :twak:
Bens pics remind me of the country side shots from "Clockwork Orange"
where the mugging happened!(http://i38.tinypic.com/1zftu68.gif)
but honestly, very nice!
and Mikes shot's are more dark (as in scary!), and if you squint your eyes at Mickey's
text, it looks like somebody layed a machine gun to it! (mr smiley)
Ben does Mike talk like he prints? :P
I really nice read mates, thanks for sharing all that, how was the beer?

Mike did mention a MT. :pok:

checking again!

Sadly, we couldn't see any.
Here is a pic of the info that was near it. Not sure how much you'll be able to see, but I have left it large so you will hopefully be able to see the diagram at least.

Sorry I can't read the text in the picture, what it for? Is it to control the insect population?
Glad you guys really had fun! :salute:

No, it's just for bats.

So whats the use of making the bats comfortable? Is it only for bat conservation or also for insect control?
Wow you can get quality organic fertilizer in that tower! :D

I like the little pippiwotsit jobs, they're very cute (for bats). Last time i went camping we were surrounded by bats each evening.

We have the odd bat flying around our house, no idea where they live but we get glimpses of them in the garden every now and then. Crazy little creatures really :)

I'm not too concerned Donald, it was a while ago and my behaviour and mental state seem just fine :ahhh

Sort of "Happy Batty Slapping" you mean? I'll keep checking youtube :D
Bats are a protected species over here at the moment. A friend of mine bought a house recently, and the surveyor mentioned finding bat droppings somewhere. Apparently you can't get rid of them, you have to build a "bat box" and wait for them to move in there instead. They have more rights than us ???
We did a bit of researching about it, and it's true they can carry rabies, but only something like 0.01% of UK bats carry it, and it's mostly not contageous apparently. We're pretty lucky in this country for that sort of thing.
I would have loved to see one giving Neil a kicking though :D
