Yes, once again I can't seem to stop talking. :facepalm: For the first time I thought I'd actually do a review of a MT that's still in production. ;) I'd also like to give a big chunk of credit to Sawman for providing me with this Rebar. The one I already owned had an old Wave head fitted to it, it wasn't really up to speed for reviewing. Many thanks again Steve. :salute:

I agree about the straight driver being fatter near the base annoying. It could be ground down to make the sides parallel for better access to deeper screws. Someday I'd still like to fit Vic scissors in one too. :D

What I don't understand it that on the Blast etc the same sized screwdriver did have near parallel sides, so this change has to have been for some reason. I just don't know what the reason might be. :think:

Good on you for not wasting time finding your set of scales and then fumbling to use them with super tacticool gloves on :tu: That really pisses me off.
On the screwdriver getting stuck - it's happened to me a lot more than once or twice!

I thought about once, then bough a Powerlock instead. Its a nice tool the Rebar, but I tend to like the big dogs.
May get the ST300 some time.

Great review.
Like you, I got a Rebar with the old Wave-style head on it, and have to say, for the amount of wire cutting i do, I'm perfectly fine with it.
The 10-minute length for the review, I feel, is enough to be thorough, and not so long as to seem like you're rambling.
Also... after having the Rebar for a few months now, I have to say I love it. Not as fancy as the Wave, but almost as capable at about half the price, and a few ounces lighter.

Excellent review Gareth, you've pointed out some areas of improvement that LM should address in future versions. If they ditch the lanyard ring, they could make the cutting blade thicker. The small screwdriver should be an easy fix as well. And the awl could be a bit pointier at the tip.

You got me thinking about the replaceable cutters that while they're into stealing from Gerber, hence their OHT, they could borrow the triangular cutters and not have that gripping problem like the Rebar does. I love the Rebar but they really should have made some smaller cutters for it rather than being lazy and making "all purpose" ones to fit both the 4 inch and larger tool sizes.

I absolutely think that's the real answer. I would love to think that if they ever decide to put replaceable cutters onto the Wave and Charge they might just consider doing that, but I wouldn't bank on it either. :-\

I know I've banged on about this for a while, and it's something I disagree with Al on, but IME the cutters don't infringe on the ability to hold a bolt head. By the time they are an issue my hands aren't big enough to hold the handles. Obviously round things become and issue more quickly.
I like having the big cutters, but then I cut a lot of things. What's more of an issue to me is the big ledge on the back of them that makes getting through big things quite tough.
Incidentally, has anyone heard from Al recently?

Last we heard he'd started a new job, my guess is that he's a bit involved in that.
Re the cutters; as I said in the video I don't think it's a major issue but I do think it could be better. Nuts and bolts I normally hold with a spanner anyway, so I agree that it's not a big thing, but I'm definitely not a fan of the fact they interfere with the grip on round items, something I would potentially be using pliers for. Not a deal breaker but worth noting IMO. :)

I have to say... I agree.
While I never owned a Pulse, I feel the Rebar is an extremely worthy successor to the PST. It's like an ounce and a half heavier, and packs in a lot more ability, in about the same size package.
It is, maybe, the most bang-for-buck of any full size MT out there today. And I have a head-swapped version, not one with the replaceable cutters.

full sized Swisstool or the Swisstool Spirit? I'll be honest and say the Swisstool always left me a little...meh. Nothing at all wrong with it, it just didn't click with me. :shrug: On the other hand the Spirit is excellent. :D

I don't know how I missed this one. Great review Gareth. I've seen a few of yours and you seem to manage to stick right to the point (something a lot of YouTube reviews, mine included, are terrible at).
My Rebar is generally the MT that gets used the most nowadays and I'd have to agree with everything you said.
The only two other things I would have mentioned myself are:
- The Rebar has more agressive teeth on the pliers than the standard LM head.
- The file is a lot more aggressive than your standard LM files.
Those can be both positive and negative, but personally I'm a fan of both of those aspects :)
