Title: What is (and how do you carry) your EDC Pen?
Post by: Justin Barylski on March 13, 2018, 04:41:41 PM
Hello all. Not sure if there is a topic like this out there so if there is feel free to correct me.

So after losing my favorite EDC pen (a titanium Maxmadco Bolt  )I think I am going to change the way I carry my pens. For the past little bit I have carried my pens clipped to the back left pocket of my pants for ease of access, however moment or bending over has caused them to unclip themselves and almost fall out so many times that I am scared of losing more pens. My EDC now is a Stainless steel Parker jotter, and I have been looking into a TiScribe bolt to replace it.

So, what pen (or pens :D) do you carry in your EDC, and how do you carry them?

We got a couple of pen topics awlready.
But since you want to talk about pen carrying methods, which is a new thing in my book, I’ll let that slide and give this topic my support, as soon as I add links to the other pen topics for posterity and indexing reasons.  :D

(Hmm, acting like a mod is fun. )

Edit:
Let's talk pens! (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,74000.0.html)
Fisher Space Pens (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,65626.0.html)

My Pens (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,71747.0.html)
Fountain Pens (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,70256.0.html)
I think thats most of the general-ish pen threads.
There are more, but mainly talking about one pen specifically.

I've taken a liking to the Zebra F-301. I clip one to a small Rite in the Rain notepad and slip them in whichever pocket has the space.

I sooo want a unique bolt pen but they get kinda pricey, and for something you can lose very easy it’s kinda not worth it, but I still want one.. anyway, I’ve started carrying something that’s like a plastic fisher bullet, works under the same design yet is pretty much a Bic, they only cost around $10 for three, so if you end up losing one it’s not hard on the bank! Did I forget to say I soo want a bolt! lol

I don't have one standard pen that I carry. I'll just grab one out of the pot, and stick it in my pocket. Which pocket depends on what I'm wearing at the time - inside jacket pocket or shirt pocket usually, but sometimes cargo pocket on hiking trousers, or rule pocket on work trousers.

I carry a chrome bullet space pen in a leather pouch in my pocket.  It lives in there with an olight i3E, mini sharpie, leatherman extension, leatherman bit cards and the victorinox mini screwdriver

I'm good with the mini micro pen on the Explorer Plus or Manager.  I always have one of those with me.  The Fisher space pen (I prefer polished chrome) gets an honorable mention.

while the space pen is always with me in the pouch, I do as others here and often grab an additional generic pen to rock in the jacket/shirt pocket

I have one of those collapsible true utility pens. They are pretty good and cheap. Well at least if you don't have to write a lot.  :D

The Fisher Bullet seems pretty popular still. I may have do dig mine out and start carrying it again.

Oh, small nugget of wisdom.
The fine refills for fisher pens write more nicely than the default medium refills, and there isn’t much of a difference with the line thickness.

When I've got my Skinth with me, there is a Telescopic Zebra pen in there.

I also received such a small half-length pen in a RAK from ThePeacent but it got confiscated by my girlfriend before it left the table...

Forgot to mention, along with my Fischer in my pocket I carry a BIC with 4 color options in my back left pocket next to a notepad. It held up for a bit but is plastic and has cracked due to sitting on it. I actually believe the crack likely happened when I get out of my car as I pivot and my left back pocket takes the weight until I stand up. It now unscrews constantly but I’m going to leave it in that pocket as it’s already broken and I won’t mind to much if it breaks more or gets lost.

Should mention that I also tend to carry a SAK with the little pen most days. And sometimes a mini Sharpie on cord around my neck or in my pocket.

When the weather warms up and the snow stops, I'll wear a lighter jacket.  It's got a special pocket for two pens.  I will carry my Zebra F-xMD (with space pen blue refill) in one pocket, and will maybe add an AAA torch in the other.

(http://i.imgur.com/bjR6Ngr.jpg?1) (https://imgur.com/bjR6Ngr)

The ThruNite Ti3 fits, but is a bit short and might slip too far down the pocket, so I think I have a reason to buy a 2xAAA torch, maybe the Ti4 penlight.

(http://i.imgur.com/IVP2B64.jpg?2) (https://imgur.com/IVP2B64)

For day to day carry in the office and at home, I have settled on the combination below in my front pocket: (the same) Ti3 (see, I really do have a legitimate reason to buy a Ti4  8) ), the TaoBar prybar and package opener, my trusty LM Squirt PS4, and a Liliput fountain pen.  If I was going for a more robust EDC I guess I could swap the Liliput for a Fisher bullet pen.  See what I did!  I now have a reason to buy another pen!  :ahhh  But the Liliput has sentimental value.

(http://i.imgur.com/LAMMtRh.jpg?1) (https://imgur.com/LAMMtRh)

I like the way the leather pouch is conforming to the shape of the items it holds.

In my work bag I have two other pens I use regularly at work: the Uni Style Fit Meister 3 Colour and the 5 Colour Multi Pens.  The pens take gel ink in a wide range of colours and widths (I've posted on this before:  https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,74000.msg1577552.html#msg1577552 ) and there are also black/red/blue Jetstream ink refills --- these ballpoint inks are creamy smooth.  These lie on my desk or in my other pocket.

TigerPens ( https://www.tigerpens.co.uk/zebra-f-xmd-stainless-steel-ballpoint-pen ) have the F-xMD pen for sale at £7.95 ... and if you spend over £20 on Zebra pens you get a free F-xMD.

Now,, if  I buy 3 F-xMD pens, I'll spend over £20 so I can get another one free  :tu:
