days ago i've seen, always on ebay, another one like mine.....maybe you will be lucky like me...

Thanks for posting that robibotti, it's a shame Leatherman no longer makes a sheath like that. I find that my Large MOLLE sheath intended for tools like the MUT is almost too tight for both bit kits and is a bit large for the charge tti. However the small MOLLE sheath is just right for the Charge but only holds one bit set.

...i didn't resist anymore.. >:D..i bought a very cheap core on ebay....disassembled it....picked up the awl....little dremel work...et voilà.....mi charge tti's got a brand new awl!!!!!!!
i found very easy to replace the flat screwdriver with the awl, and if in the future i'd need leatherman's guarantee,it will be painless to get back to the original setup
pics coming soon......
....now it's complete!.....Looks AWLful.... :P :P
to assemble the tools and the washers i only used my hands and my PST..... :D
Lets hope my Charge Ti comes back todayFingers crossed mate.. :tu:
:salute: Guys, I would like to know what accessories come with the Charge TTI?Er you should also get extra bits for the bit driver. I think its 5 extra but I might be wrong.
I bought one in mercadolivre.com.br and only came up with: Removable Pocket Clip, Lanyard Ring and Premium sheath. It's correct?
Thanks! :salute:

Thanks. What are people here using to sharpen/maintain their S30V blades?
How is this for 154CM?
Its got 2 slots, one for sharpening a dull knife, and one for refining the edge, alo it had a rod as seen in pic.
Thanks. What are people here using to sharpen/maintain their S30V blades?
Thanks. What are people here using to sharpen/maintain their S30V blades?
My favourite is the Spyderco Sharpmaker .Some of you may not agree with me but this is where I think the Wave is a more sensible option .If you don't know what your doing with sharpening S30V or 154CM you will be there for ages and could quiet easily make it blunter . Its not a steel for novices . The 420HC of the Wave can me made to be just as hair popping sharp and as long as you maintain the edge on a regular basis it won't give you any problem .Sometimes I think some people just go for the S30V because its considered better  My Wave will cut rope , seatbelts , fish heads , rubber hose , cheese etc. etc. just as well as my Charge will . I realise that S30V retains the edge for longer but I have never had a problem with 420HC .
Just my two pennies worth .
Welcome to the forums , and good post :tu:
Count me in. Ive got a charge tti coming in the mail. I'll post pics when I get it.
Question for you fellow charge heads... Anyone else notice a pronounced difference in grip comfort between using the pocket clip vs. not? I have the TTi but I imagine they are all similar. I am always tempted by the convenience of the clip but really love the feel of the tool without. Anyone else care, or not? :)
How would you rate charge tti as an edc weared on the pocket clip?
Isn't it too heavy or clumsy for pocket carry?
I love my skeletool but want to try some more featured multitool:)
In that case, count me in :ahhh
I've bought my Charge TTi yesterday. The knife grinds are awfull (uneven and terrible burr), the pliers and file are scratching the scales but I don't care really, it's a tool not a safe queen :D
I love it and it will be my EDC for now on. I've already decided to sell my Skeletool Cx and switch it to Wave all black instead to match my Charge
Gentlemen, I'm officially hooked.

Why sell the Skeletool to get a Wave which functionally does the exact same thing as the Charge? ???
With the Skeletool you have the lightweight option. If your tools are things for the shelf then I understand, but for practical use it makes zero sense to have a Charge and ...another Charge.
You get far more versatility with the Charge/Skeletool combo.

What does making sense about your tool use or accumulations have to do with any thing. After all this is MT.O :D :D

When I have a bit more time, I'll be assembling the Coyote Brown/Silver one.
I own a Ti and until I looked on the LM retired tools listing for this tool that it has a "hidden" lanyard ring. I knew most of them (LM MTs) had this feature but not this one. I assumed that because it had a removable lanyard ring that they wouldn't put a fixed one on the tool.Have another look just past the end of the saw or file.

Well spill the beans. How do you like the new Charge design?
To be completely honest I think its ugly as sin. Not to say it Doesn't function well though.
To be completely honest I think its ugly as sin. Not to say it Doesn't function well though.
Yes, I prefer the original, it feels more comfortable in hand, the new design is little thicker, larger and 10g heavier.

It doesn't look as nasty in these pics as on the website, at least. To be completely honest I think its ugly as sin. Not to say it Doesn't function well though.

More I look at it more I'm beginning to like it ??? . The slightly broader scales has completely hidden the lock release. Now it's flush and not protruding.
At last I am a member of this exclusive club.
I got myself a Charge Xti today. :D
Convince me to buy an ALX for $80 on amazon...Already have Wave, Surge, Rebar, MUT, Wingman....just want to add it to the collection/rotation.
Done. Will be here Thurs. Just needed a little motivation haha, and to see if there are any complaints on the tool.
Back in the club after a few weeks ;)
Presenting the ReCharge TTXi :ahhh

I did notice on my blade that there is a little indent on the factory grind. Is anyone else's ALX like that? my date stamp is 0912

That they do.
Here are my Charges (AL and TTi) now that I'm finally able to post pics:P. Last pic is the TTi's flathead filed down to an awl (to the best of my ability anyway :-\)Are you murdering the flat drivers on all your tools? I just saw what you did to that juice too. :pok:

My Ti is older so it opens and closes easier, but there's something about the AL texture that I like.
Oh, and I became a Jr. Member today :D
I love these tools and I keep trying to justify them being that I don't have much need for them.
Ultimately, I've come to the conclusion that I want them because I like them. :gimme:
I've picked up a couple more recently, and decided it was time for a quick snapshot. :D

Must... Not.. :assimilate:
Yeah I love the black/steel combo too. I was doubting beween TTi and AL and it was the color combi that won me over.
The thing is, now I have the AL I noticed I keep looking at the TTi for my next one... maybe... :(
I recently got hold of a Charge TTi. My Kind big brother bought one for me and one for himself. I am somewhat obsessed with polishing things so it was just to start with TTi.
Titanium is hard ... But it became shiny! :)
Now i cant leave the house without it :D
/ Peter
My brothers and mine TTi in the pic. Try to figure out which one is the polished :tu:
@lillebror your TTi look great all shiny. was that a difficult process?
@ Chinese buffet killer picture. for some reason it reminded me of a praying mantis. I wasn't really digging the new look of the TTi but yours has made me reconsider.
that's fricken awesome Lillebror. I have a tti but this one makes me want the new style tti. great polish job big time
yep, this is how goofy I am. oh well :ahhh I am excited, and the crazy Intel toys seemed perfect
Yeah! :mail:
I can now join the Charge club with my 2013 style TTi

Where did you find those? Too funny!¡! Nice new Charge btw.
Hi guys! :D I just recently bought a Leatherman Charge TTI (2013 version) and saw that the handles have different date codes, one side has 0213 and the other side 0413.
Just want to ask if it is possible to have different date codes on the handles of Leatherman multi-tools? ??? Like in my case for example.
I hope this is the the right thread for my question. :D

Welcome ize_10  This seems to happen regularly from what I've read here. There are a variety of reasons for it, although since yours is the 2013 version, it's probably just more along the lines of them using parts with different date codes for whatever reason. I believe those date stamps only represent when that particular handle/part was manufactured, not when the entire multitool was put together. I have a PST with one handle dated from '97 and the other from '04, so it's not really unusual as far as I can tell anyway. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong ;)

Thanks for the answer Monrogue! :tu: and here I thought I bought a knock-off version of leatherman. :D
If I find a cheap Rebar again, sure :tu:Nice please post some picture when done.
For now I`m thinking about a PVD coating for the Charge but I don`t know which one.
Maybe complete black in DLC, maybe golden handels and the blades and tools in black DLC or vice versa, maybe only DLC for the blades and tools.......I really don`t know yet.
I like the looks of the new ones as well, but I would like to see them in person to compare to my TTi.
what do people prefer, new tti scales or old scales?
i have the old scales/model and i don't know if i would like it if i got the new scaled one as a replacement if i break anything.
what do you guys think?
I own a new Charge TTi but I like the look of the older Charge a little bit more.......I think I need a old Charge too :D

That was a great Idea.........thank you Toolslinger :waving: MTo makes me poor
I love this old Charge, its a used one (shelf queen) in perfect condition and really nice and everything works perfect smooth.
The only thing......I always thought the older Charge series has "only" a 154cm blade and a normal serrated blade but look at the pics.
The other strange thing is......it has the same datestamp as my TTi........05/13 on both handles ???
Thanks for the explanation that was something I did not know. Now I need a Charge XTi for completing my small "Charge collection" :D
Does anyone know the reasoning for the different Charge model naming? TTi, Ti, XTi, AL etc...

Greetings! It sounds like you got yourself a Texas Tool Crafter new Charge TTi! Congrats on a great find and welcome to the forum.
I figured this is as good a spot as any for a first post! I have several Leatherman branded MTs, Wave BO, ST 300, Surge, Blast BO, Wingman and Rebar. However, the one that I am most excited about is the Charge tti that will be in route on Monday!
Just a little back story... I have been eyeballing these for a while now. When the current, new version was released, I got really itchy. Last night I was combing some websites and 'the BAY' comparing prices and stopped at an auction that has one listed as "New other (see details)" for 94.00. Needless to say I was intrigued. I clicked on the auction to discover that it was engraved with the sentiment "Will Scully Happy 40th", and was bought by the seller in a lost mail auction. I was contemplating buying it when I happened to mouse over a good shot of the tool and zoomed in on the blade. Not s30v, but damascus! I couldn't click buy now quite fast enough. Tickled that I will soon have a new EDC that, I fear, will start a problem all over again. I can see more than one of these in my corral in the near future.
Thanks for listening (reading) and I will certainly post pictures as it arrives!

Wait is that a new style handle Charge in Camo?
Nice :tu:
But....did the Charge with the Rebar pliers close completly?? I only ask because you didn`t cut down the scissor.
I did not dare to do it on my Wave because there is also the spring for the lock.....that is one reason why I now have a Wave with two bit exchangers :) Maybe you have a pic inside the handle of your Charge?
So, here are the handles :)
I`ve coated them with a double layer coating, tungsten plus DLC. The color changes with the light, sometimes they look like the normal handles only a little bit darker and sometimes they look black.

Looks nice, how durable is the coating?

I'm now just wishing I'd bought a TTI (or preferably TI) rather than an AL...hey ho... ::)The Charge AL is one on my wishlist although I'm in no hurry to buy it. I used to have an ALX and was sorry I sold it. I liked the aluminum handles very much.

Absolutely a great idea :tu: But what happend with the other handle of the Charge??I use the other flank when needed. It is stand alone, no problem. You can mix and match tools to a degree.
Nice.I couldn't get the regular bit holder and scissors to fit in the width. For memory it was wider than the flat screwdriver and small bit holder.
The regular bit holder could be there instead of the small one and the prying driver. And there's room on the other side for a couple of tools too, although it would be difficult to implement them without backspring or lockin mechanism.
Those screw can be tighened or loosened. Those ar what hold the together. As for as putting a Vic caplift in it, I am not sure. I did put the vic scissors on one. Worked put good.

I have a couple of the older LM Charge TTi models and sometimes find it a bit more tool than is necessary. On those occasions an Alox SAK sometime gets the nod. But the standard 93mm Alox SAK doesn't come with some of the features that are box stock on the Charge TTi. Namely, scissors, locking blade, higher wear resistant blade steel (CPM S-30V), diamond abrasive file and removable pocket clip. So that got me thinking, maybe a Charge TTi with less could be more for occasions when my needs don't require a fully blown TTi.
So this is what I ended up doing some months ago. It's pretty light, has become a goto tool and does the business with great compactness and competence.

I could go saw instead of file then right?
One problem with just fitting blades to both sides is that the detent indent on the blade would be on the reverse side for the non-native blade position.I have a couple of the older LM Charge TTi models and sometimes find it a bit more tool than is necessary. Has anyone successfully put a Wingman package opener on a Charge? I have a new TTi and want to swap out the big flat head screwdriver for the package opener. It looks like it is longer and may interfere with the pliers when closed though.
What can i bid on the charge slv package is it any value in it? How many made? ???
Bid is at 104$ now to much?
This weekend I got myself a brand new Ti! It was still in the box (Isn't now!) with all of the accessories. I've always been interested in the charge line but couldn't justify the cost. I saw this one for $50, so I had to jump on it. Not sure it will replace my Skeletool CX for edc use, but I'm very impressed with it.
Can I Join.
Can you answer this for me. I have just got a new Charge AL and there is no date stamp in it. Have they stopped dating them.?

Hi all,
This is my first multi-tool. And my first post here.
After some intense online research during the last few nights, a lot of which was spent on this site, I decided that the Charge Al was the multi-tool for me. As luck would have it, the Charge Al with "premium" leather case was on clearance at my local big-box outfitter, so I picked it up this morning. It was on my belt before I left the parking lot.
They didn't sell the accessories, so I went a block down the street to the local hiking store and picked up a stainless bit driver extender (last one in stock) and the 21-piece bit kit (both were cheaper than eBay, and I got instant gratification).
Up to this point, my EDC has been a Benchmade Barrage 580SBK, which I'll also continue to carry.

Charge is definitely my favorite, just the right size and comfort. My Charge collection is currently at 12 pieces. Going by the date code:
- 0614/ 0614: ALX BO
- 0214/ 0614: TTi Camo Seclusion 3D, BO (new scale)
- 1012/ 0113: TTi Camo Real Tree, bead blast, no (R) after the CHARGE letters (old scale) this one is a mistery as I am curious to know which retailer LT made this version for
- 0810/ 1010: TTi standard (old scale)
- 0807/ 1007: SLV
- 0807/ 0807: TTi standard (old scale) this one has a raised pad for engraving
- 0807/ 0807: AL stainless
- 0406/ 0506: Ti BO (old scale)
- 0406/ 0406: XTi BO (old scale) this one has the LEATHERMAN CHARGE (R) letters unground on one scale
- 0206/ 0406: Ti standard
- 1105/ 1105: Ti standard
- 1204/ 0205: XTi standard
All were from eBay. I am not in a hunting mode for the Charge anymore, more like lookout mode for Camo variations, AL BO, ALX standard, and cheap titanium Charges. Will post a pic of my ring of Charges once I get on my PC :salute:

from left to right, top to bottom in date-code chronological order:
The XTi BO with unground lettering on one scale. The letters are a lot crisper and easier to read
(http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/a441/chronoxxx/charge%202_zpsppqo39a2.jpg)
The old-scale TTi with raised pad for engraving. Next to it is the SLV. The SLV scale is not just plain, boring gray. It is glittering to some degree, quite pretty.

My absolute favorite - The TTi Camo (may be relegated to number two, if I am ever able to get the 25th anniversary Charge :D, which is highly unlikely). Leatherman got it right with this one, from the paint job, bead blast, to the leather of the sheath.

Congrats so far. I hope you will be able to work out those issues and enjoy the tool. You are correct with the date codes and yes the 154 blade is standard on the Charge AL.
So, this just found its way home with me. Found it for sale on Letgo or Offerup app, 5 mins from my house and got a hell of a deal. TTI 3D seclusion, right (I'm a rookie)? Has the S30V blade.I quite like that shade going on your Charge. :tu:

Thanks guys. I said rookie because I've seen the collections here and I only own 4. BO Surge, Gen 1 wave, wingman and now the TTi.

Just got this today. Cabelas had a sale and I scored this for $125. Has older Ti scales so must be old stock. Extremely happy with this purchase. Will probably leave it in the package for now.

Thanks Poncho. I'm quite pleased with it. I was going to buy it when it was $179 but put it off until the next day and Cabelas dropped it to $125. I couldn't checkout fast enough lol. At first I thought it was a mistake but I called Cabelas and the lady told me it was legit and that it looked like I got the last one in that camo pattern. Like I said I'm very happy with this. Wanted one for quite awhile.

Thanks Steve !! For the price and being camo I'm happier than a kid at Christmas.

I need opinions from you guys. I recently bought a Charge Ti, which I believe 1st production run. It has pentalobe security screws, PAT PEND stamp, 0204/0404 dates. The tool is in fantastic condition with 1 major flaw: the stopping tab for the pliers is broken on the can opener/ bit driver side. If I leave the bit driver empty, the tool works fine. If I have a bit in, the pliers' jaw will be wedged between the can opener and the bit.
Has anyone ever sent a Charge in for warranty claim with such issue? Did they fix the tab or replace the whole channel with another one? Did they replace the screws with the 6-star ones?
On older models, is it necessary to heat up the tool if I wish to disassemble it? I do not have drivers for the pentalobe. On other newer models like Wave, Surge, Charge... I just disassemble without heating. I think of buying drivers to disassemble this one, but am not fond of heating it.
I'm addicted. Latest Charge. Titanium buddies. Lol.Nice Charge and that pen look very cool to. What brand is that ?

I purchased a Charge today from my local Leatherman dealer.

Thanks. It's a titanium Maxmadco pen. Thanks White, new brand to me. Looks cool.
Here is my current Charge status. :P The latest one is the pimped out, gold-plated with damascus blade TTi by TTC (shogun ed.). I added a gold-plated clip to it. This is the second tool in my collection with damascus blade by TTC. I like the shape of LM blades better, which look more tacticool. Close up on the damascus pattern.
I did not buy the shogun TTi from TTC. It is not the costliest one in the group. The one set me back the most is the Camo TTi with stainless blades (second one from the top, second row). The oldest one by age is the bottom TTi on the right column.

Wondering if someone could help me out with a bit of Charge info. Just been researching before a potential trade. I have been offered a TTi and looking at the pictures, it looks like the first version, similar to the Ti. The differences are that it has the strap cutter on top of the serrated blade and the cap crimpers on the pliers. It was described by the seller as a TTi but i thought that description was for the more recent version with the later handle design. I did some digging and found the XTi (which i thought it was) and this appeared to support my thoughts:
https://www.smartknives.com/Leatherman-Multi-Tools/Charge-XTI.htm
I mentioned this to the seller who responded by saying that it is the TTi as the XTi did not have scissors but had a double bit driver. A bit confused, i then found this:
https://www.smartknives.com/Leatherman-Multi-Tools/Leatherman-Charge-XTi.htm
which confused me more as both links appear to be from the same source; Smart Knives. Anyone help me out here? It's academic really as i just wanted to know which model i am considering.
All the info you need is in this excellent article by Chako

"Thay don't make them like that anymore" is true for the Charge series. I reallky like the early Charges. Everything about them is elegant, just look at those fine blade grinds.
Hi chrono... true. Most preferred the older model especially evident at hand scale. My daily wear as well for a long series Leatherman®Charge®

I have lost (stolen from me) two MTs, Charge previous version (which was my first MT so I had a special feeling for it) and Juice CS4., the Charge was lost three years ago and the Juice just a couple of months ago.old charge in our country are rarely sell them. most are in the hands of collectors. and the old charge has a different price value. I happen to also have it and I love it for day to day use
Today I got replacements for both of them... Used, acceptable price (cheap comparing against normal prices in my country), and in good shape.
Same version of the Charge and different but lovable version of the Juice (XE 6).
Therefore, now I can join the Charge owners club if you guys allow me in.

Got a really old Charge XTi in Camo. It has pentalobe screws, "PAT PEND" stamp :ahhh, and of course, the lovely camo sheath. I love how crisp the "Leatherman" letterings are. This bring the Camo stainless version to 4 pieces in my collection.

Depends on how hard the steel is that the bolt is made from. I would use a hacksaw, it would be much easier and quicker. You're right. Not worth the risk so I bought a hacksaw to do the job :)

06-14 date stamp. Outside tools open nicely. Inside tools too. Pliers are a bit stiff to open, but may change with wear and use. No wobble in pliers head. When closed there is no movement. Solid! All tools felt a bit 'gritty' when opening, so I put on some 3-in1 oil and will see if that helps.

Also came with a leather case, bit kit, and the clip and large lanyard attachments.
It is about 10g heavier than my modded Wave, and feels different in my hand when compared to the stainless Wave.

http://www.instructables.com/id/Leatherman-wave-Hidden-lanyard-piece/
I sent a pair of Charges in, a 1st production Ti and an old-style Tti, for repair. The Ti is most like replaced because of a broken stopping tab and scissor handle. I asked if they would give me a Tti, or if it is a AL whether they could replace the Alum scales with the Ti ones from the Ti. I love those old Ti scales, the reason why I held off sending this in for a few months. Cross my fingers on this one. :P

Slippery slope we've stepped on. Didn't think they could be all that much better than some of the other options, this and the Wave are quite great in use

Strange that cheaper models are so much more expensive here, while expensive models don't vary that much...

Here is my latest Charge :tu:
Please note that the red paint is simply... paint. It will chip/ wear eventually. Because of the paint, Leatherman had to use smooth scales for maximum adhesion. The red really pops with the SS blades. The only thing I wish mine better is with the file rubbing the inside of the scale, with a bit with red paint stuck to the tip. But the file rubbing is a common minor issue with all Charge models. Buy one, you won't regret it. Mine has 0417 date.
Also, the sheath is model 945016, which is now not available on Leatherman site (https://www.knifecenter.com/item/LM945016/leatherman-945016-charge-premium-sheath). You get two bit cards, which come in a small ziplock bag, together with the Charge in the same box. Pocket clip and lanyard ring are included.

I'm in! Finally my Amercian Red Cross Charge arrived today. :mail:
I quite like the tool, but I was surprised it came bone dry, it needed a very liberal dose of lube to make it acceptable, and still there's a dry "ffffrrfff" sound while opening the external blades and my thumb easily slips as they do not pivot that easy. (The lockbars are pretty stiff on the PE blade and file side.) Not as smooth out of the box as I imagined. Of yourse it will break in, it already started to behave better after a couple of hours of playing with it, but still I was expecting a bit more.
The file rub is horrible. :D Also, I was surprised to find an integrated lanyard loop at the tip of the saw, I've never seen that mentioned/shown in any review. (And I watched a few, believe me! :) )
I havent decided yet wheter this will be a user for me or if I will keep it in mint condition for a possible resale in a few years.
Cool picture! :like:...By the way, where did you attached the lanyard on the Charge?Charge, wave, surge - they all have hidden lanyard ring

Almost lost this baby flying home from UK to the Netherlands. I forgot to put it back in the checked-in luggage so I had it still in my daypack. During the security scan they picked me out and gave me two options either they have it disposed or I'll have my daypack checked in.Good call!!
Daypack checked in it is then. Good thing I did that as I was checking the price now...wow I can't believe how much it costs now! I bought it for around 160 euro, it is discontinued now and the successor it costs 250 euro!
Great pics bonc and Nick  :like:

Is it just the newest TTis that have the phosphor bronze washers between the Ti scales & blades and between the blades & steel frame?
All of my TTis(2017 and older) have a spacer formed on the inside of the scales instead of the washers. I'll take some pics tomorrow. But, that said, I like the idea of phosphor bronze washers on each side of the blade pivots, hypothetically anyway. I know my Charge+ and AL have PB washers on each side, but I am not sure if I really notice a difference. But, perhaps someone with some metallurgy knowledge could chime in.
Any help would be much appreciated. :)
Posted this pic earlier on my TTI. Not sure of the age of this model, probably 2018 as a guess.Awesome. Thanks for the info and insights, Max!
I know that the threads of screwed watch backs of Ti watches can ‘bind’ and lock up, so this is maybe a friction-reducing measure, as much as a spacer requirement. Ti is highly corrosion resistant and has no bi-metallic corrosion risk like you can sometimes get when two different metals are in direct contact.
Thanks glbm :hatsoff: and my Charge+ the Al model, open very well with all the outside tools  So the washers may make a difference :shrug:Thanks for the insight, Poncho!
My 04 Ti has the phosphor washers. I can darn near flick the main blade out.All Ti and TTi versions have phosphor bronze washers between the blades and steel body. But, does it have phosphor washers between the scales and blades?

Nice addition to your comprehensive holdings there! Thanks for sharing.Thank you, Heywood Floyd!
The earlier pic, a few postings ago, was a little older than my current TTi setup. The sheath and accessories are the same. The changes were for two reasons. Firstly I modded it (early ’15) and fitted a set of Rebar pliers.
The TTi in question was my oldest and most thoroughly and mercilessly thrashed Charge and it developed a chassis crack. See pic …
(http://imgur.com/2Rl9ZaR.jpg)
Leatherman dealt with my warranty claim on the chassis frame failure very well. Now my mostly daily drive Charge TTi has a modern body with latest Ti scales and a Rebar plier head. On that and your very clean looking Blast pliers, did you have to grind or smooth out parts of it to avoid clashing when the tool is closed?
Here’s a pic of my earliest Rebar to TTi plier head frankenstein transplant.
I was certainly not the first and it's relatively straight forward but does need some grinding of the plier head as there’s minor fouling with the folded scissors etc.
Lol, this plier head is old hat now with Leatherman's latest TTi incarnation.
Great pics glbm and Floyd :like: Great addition to the lineup glbm and sorry to hear that the Charge devoloped a chasis crack  LM is great with cs and glad they fixed you up as well :salute:

Awesome looking custom Charge there! :like:
Fortunately the Blast pliers head is the same one found in the Charge Ti, so a direct drop in. I found the TTi cap crimper to be a negative when using the Charge pliers. I carry a Gerber Pinchy for hardcore pliers use(blunt nose), so I wanted the no-CC fine-teeth pliers in the TTi. My user Blast wasn't getting any use, so it was switcharoo time. The CC TTi pliers fot nicely into the Blast too. :)
Thanks Max :hatsoff: and great pics GLBM, Steve and Justin :like:Thank you, Poncho!
So this is where the TTi plier head swapped to with the Rebar. The Rebar is no TTi but it’s a boon in a pinch. That is a good looking Rebar with the old style pliers. :o
I also don’t particularly like or frequently use the CCs. Of late, the CC sometimes gets a run “crimping” molten paracord.

Hi All, been a lurker for ages. I'm curious to know what the differences are between the charge and wave! Not a lot...better steel used on the main blade of the Charge and a box cutter/gut hook on the back of the serrated blade. Fancy scales on the handles (aluminum or titanium) instead of stainless steel.
Also congrats on both of you for being reply #999 and #1000 8) :like:

A little bit of cheat.. :D The black paint had survived much better than expected. Had been sheath carrying this for the past week, had been handling it rougher than normal to see how the paint will wear. Dropped it into my tool box and gave it a little tumble in it, quite a few times actually. The raised screw helped alot to cushion the tool and paint when placed flat. Some light scrapes here and there. Very happy with how the paint is holding up. Cheap to and easy to touch up again. Black always makes thing look better eh. ;)

Thanks for the welcome guys. I was between the Wave Plus, Charge Plus, and the Charge Plus TTi in the end I liked the look of the Titanium on the TTi so I went for that one. From the sounds of it after reading through this forum I will likely end up with more than just this Charge Plus TTi haha.

Yeah I thought as much, thanks. That's a good find. Not many of those about I assume, well, I've certainly not seen one before. Very nice!

Great collection :tu:
Was there ever a crossover TTI?, a gen 1.5 if you like. Where they introduced the new style of scales before adding the replaceable cutters. Or did they bring in the new cutters in conjunction with the new scales?

I think that the Tti + will be gen 3.0  those scales have been around a few years whereas the replaceable cutters have only been out since first of last year on the Charge and Wave series :salute:
An early one so either a Ti or an Xti  if it has the same toolset as a Wave then it is a Ti but if it has cap crimper head, but hook on the serrated blade and 2 but drivers then it is an Xti :tu:Poncho, I actually thought it was a Charge Plus TTi, but when I received it, it was not, just a very early 2nd Gen TTi.
Very strange that a 0404 has handles like that :think:I had a look at it, seems that the base of the Charge is an old TTi, hence the Pat Pend and 0404 Stamp. Then it must have been sent in for warranty work at some point and they replaced the scales to the current one. That's the only thing that makes sense. And it looks like there is another date stamped on the other handle which looks like 0419.
Finally, got it... Now I have the perfect pair..!!Great photos :like:

Too cold to go outside at present as the snow is wet and slushy. Want to get two more ST300 awls too, if anyone knows where to get some. One for a rework, and the other to put back in the ST300 I took it from. Also a few washers too.

Sign me up for club enrollment! Charge XTi, nearly new, so stoked. The best part? $20. No joke, $20 at a gun show, cleaned and oiled, ready to go, I think I have found my favorite multi tool of all time.A great score, but you already know that! Well done. :like:
I would have to agree! I saw the price and the sheath and figured it would be a Sidekick or Wingman given the price, once I saw what it was I think my wallet lit on fire from the speed it came out of my pocket with! The strangest failure! :dunno: Today my Charge+ broke on me, the outer top of the frame on one arm just cracked on both sides while I just squeezed on the pliers. I was simply oiling the pivots and opening closing the tool, I squeezed on it with moderate force, a quiet cracking sound and it was like that.
That arm always felt a bit looser, had a weaker detent in open position, so in retrospect I guess the frame was faulty right out of the box, some micro cracks or something. But strange nonetheless.
I contacted the local authorized LM distributor, but it seems I'll have to wait a while, as due to the pandemic, Portland informed them that they do not take tools for repair - nor send anything back -, and here the standard (and BO) Charge+ is currently out of stock, so they're not able to replace it. Out of Charge, out of luck it seems.
Just a couple of better photos, yesterday's pics came out pretty poor. Not sure it is that unusual ... here's one of my early generation Charge TTi. Admittedly, I took down a plaster board wall with it but purely by hand with gloves and a ladder. I'm no hulk so was disappointed that I was stronger than it ... lol ... after all I didn't break. That crack allowed for enough distortion in operation to clearly notice it. Nonetheless my local Leatherman dealer came to the party so the support is respected and great to have as an invisible part of the multitool. Anyway JFI ...
Do you think it was a side force on the blade that caused the fracture? :dunno:In my case, this was the first of many Charge TTi models I purchased and also second hand. It was used extensively by me for a couple of years. The blade in my tenure got a lot of use but so did the other tools. The last job before noted structural failure was hard going for about two full days and done as a personal challenge. Do I still have TTi models in my inventory? Absolutely yes and they have also been thrashed and survived very well. The damaged TTi was replaced with a second gen model. Was disappointed only because the S30V in my original, which I'd reworked, had the most wicked convex edge and preferred it to the new straight bevel. Here's a pic from noted job ...

Not as pretty as the others because I carry it and use it every day, but love it!...The only down side is that I can not do any modification because the screws are super tight and if I heat them up probably will melt and ruin the G10 scales :(

Great looking Charges both Free and Justin :o 8) :like: :like:
I purchased a new FREE P4 but have gone back to my CHARGR TI. For the life of me, I can't understand how they could leave out a decent file and a bit driver. With respect to the file, last night I sharpened a ceramic kitchen knife, with the diamond file. I read on another forum that a mechanic, in a jam, was able to sharpen a drill bit, on the job in order to finish his work. Try that with the P4 fingernail file. And thanks to Zapmaster for his prototype bit-driver. Will have to try that out but for now, my CHARGE TI is NUMBER ONE.I actually just purchased both a Free P4 and Charge plus tti and honestly love both. I will say that if the P4 had the file and bit driver, it would be my only one. However I love it for its ease of use and it's great for around the house or out and about since it'll do most things you might need. The charge is my tool for while I'm working though due to those two added tools. It honestly comes down to what you usually need and or use and type of stuff you do.
Just a little teaser for you all... (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200710/19a557486859245ee09ab68fff229d7e.jpg)

Hi all - I haven't read through the 44 pages prior to this one yet however I will do tomorrow.
Just wanting to say hello and that I picked up a Charge Plus TTi today. I'm very, very impressed. I had purchased a Gerber CentreDrive and had some issues (that you can read about on the Gerber page) so I did some more research and landed on the Charge.
First off, the quality, fit and finish, feel in the hand is just astonishingly higher than the gerber. I am actually extremely surprised at the difference, I wouldn't have thought it'd be this much better. So that was a great first impression.
Am looking forward to carrying it with me and of course being the titanium at some point I'd love to try to change it's color, am sure there will be a tutorial for that somewhere here.

It is anodized...it is holding up very well so far.Im planning on doing the same hence the question. I want mine to be bright blue.
Neat. I did not do this one...being a Texas Toolcrafter bought one, but the job is fairly easy to do.I can attest that it is not too difficult to do yourself. I did mine the purple color and is holding up really well.

My problem is a gap between the siccors and the spring. If I dismantle the tool and bend the two pieces closer tighter it will probably be just fine.If you look closely, the spring is straight, but the scissors are bent in a bow. They should only bend inwards slightly after the pivot point of the scissors. (1mm at the tip).
:salute: Mine usually only springs apart when I cut something that is a bit tougher, paper and the like is usually fine :iagree: It's not a great design as only a little sideways pressure of the scissor blades when cutting causes the lever to pop out. It needs to be captured on the tip like Vic has done since 1990 with the groove on the underside of theirs. But I suspect it's too much of an engineering change for LM to adjust for this (minor?) design flaw.

How does the new Charge feel in your hand? Are the G10 scales better than the metal scales in terms of grip and comfort?

Same issue but it is so worth it for me having the extra reach of the MUT bit :salute:
I have dealt with that setup for so long now that I forget that it may be an issue
I use the screwdriver way more than the scissors but others may use the scissors more, it would be an irritation if one rarely used the bit driver but used the scissors lots :ahhh

He makes me call him Mr. Geer
Ponch, I just realized in order to deploy the scissors, I need to deploy the bit extender first as otherwise the longer MUT bit gets in the way of the scissors handle. I don't have this issue with the standard shorter bit. Not sure if you have the same issue or I did not set mine up correctly. Thanks in advance.FWIW, I moved my tools around to a preferred set. Here's some pics from many moons ago (2014 OMG! my watch is out of control!)

Same as it is "no so easy" to deploy the lanyard ring on the Juice lineup...You speak the truth! The lanyard ring on my Pro was tough to open. Now I just need to figure out what diameter of cord to pass through that itty-bitty hole.

Poncho, I dont suppose you have a Skeletool RX. I was wondering if the red G10 Charge is the same shade of red.
I do not :salute: I only have a regular Skeley and the a Cx
Not sure I have seen them side by side but it is probably different because the G10 is more of a matte finish whereas the Skeletool would have a shinier finish

(https://i.imgur.com/1k1jbV3h.jpg)i gotta ask, how many times has the tool ended up in the coffee?
Thank you. I do the write ups for my Instagram page @leathermanstoriesso Legend, last year I bought a new charge plus. stupidly I put tuffglyde on it right away not realizing how gritty the pliers pivot is. I had to send it back in, and the tool they sent back was completely smooth and did not lock up when I reefed on it which every other new style plier head does. Any suggestions on how to break in the plier pivot faster aside from sending the tool back in?
Check it out!
i gotta ask, how many times has the tool ended up in the coffee?
that is an expensive desk!
If you open the tool up, then grab both handles and torque them with a medium to hard push-pull it will loosen it fast. Don’t pull outward, pull one handle towards you, while pushing the other tool away from you. That should work.
Kitchen table :ahhh and don't tell my wife :dwts:

I have a dilemma...
I have been wanting to make a "Half Charge" like Adam and Poncho, so I have been looking for a used Charge in good shape for a good price. I finally found exactly what I wanted; however, now that the Charge has arrived, it's in far better shape than I thought... it's in fantastic shape and it works perfectly. I don't think I have a heart the disassemble it to create a "Half Charge" :ahhh
(https://i.imgur.com/BmpYRnb.jpg)
I ordered mine 09/21, still in transit. I asked them when the change happened, and their reply was "The change was made very recently". I am curious to see what I'll get, but it will be a fine addition regardless :)It has finally arrived and luckily I got the old pliers. The handles are stamped this April, but obviously there can be later pieces with the new pliers.
Another One Bites the Dust!
Red Cross Charge AL on the Retired Products List LM website, so might as well put it away :tu: Already see eBay vultures flying in circles trying to take advantage of the situation and double their money :D https://www.ebay.com/itm/Limited-Edition-Leatherman-Charge-multitool-Led-Lenser-SEO5-Headlamp-/273620239989?oid=273571086905

Anyone got some loose change?
We now have a young dog who is both inquisitive AND destructive (a bad combination) so our Christmas tree and it's decorations stayed packed away this year. maybe (just maybe) we'll be able to get it out next year :dunno:We got a kitten this summer. She might be tiny, but she can deal some damage. I might have to hang the tree in the roof or something. My fiancée is destined to have it this year :ahhh
I dont post much in the LM threads unfortunately. Here is my home carry Charge kit. I forget why I added shrink wrap to the bit extender? The pocket clip is so its stays put in the sheath. One card is enough for around the house but the Pocket Wrench does come in handy so in it goes.
Excellent pic, Legend 8) and that food looks great  :like: :like: Not to mention the tool as well ;) :DThank you!!
Happy Thanksgiving :woohoo:

Looking great, cnlson  :like: :like:I think i might know why they cleared them out. mine is a 8/21 4/21 dates. so it sat for over a year by the time i got it.
Most regular peeps aren't going to drop that much money on folding pliers :ahhh the original price is a bit steep even for me but of course we all saw how that went
i never would have at regular price but this price makes it a lot easier to stomach, now i am left wondering the eternal question, should i have purchased a spare?
do you still have the 3d printed orange one? I haven't seen it in pix in a while

I think i might know why they cleared them out. mine is a 8/21 4/21 dates. so it sat for over a year by the time i got it.Received mine today, both sides are 8/21. I’m speculating it was a Leatherman instructed price reduction, and Sportsman Warehouse is receiving a Fee for each they sell to compensate for the retail brick that set in warehouse. My local store had none in stock, yet mine was shipped from that location yesterday.

Poncho, that's a mighty fine line up of charges. Do you still have the TM stamped Ti? If so, is there a pat pending stamp? Date codes? I find myself slipping into charge collecting. I'm hoping they put out a 40th anniversary charge

Awesome pics and collection, cnlson :woohoo: :like: :like:i'll keep that in mind. The black leatherman clips are 50% more than the silver which puts them in the Donk price range which is why I thought to try one of those first. I keep waiting for the ratchet or something else to come back into stock so i can do a veteran discount order that is worthwhile. but the things i want (ratchet, crunch) are either out of stock or no longer sold. And the things i have no interest in (arc) are.
I like the factory clips better than the Donks but I may just have gotten a couple ill fitting ones :dunno:
