Title: Victorinox 74mm windsor and similar
Post by: Jemmers on August 05, 2018, 08:24:09 PM
Hi There guys,

New to the forum but have been avidly reading/lurking for a while!

I'm trying to build my collection of SAK's and I'm focusing on 74mms initially.

I was wondering if people could help me with a question around value - two types of knive in particular.

What is a reasonable price to pay for a 74mm "Windsor"?

I dont care about it holding value but I'm new to this and just want to make sure I'm not getting ripped off.

Similarly if anyone knows a reasonable price for the mother of pearl versions of executives that would also be greatly appreciated?

Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Jemmers! :like: :tu: :tu:

I used to be a Victorinox dealer and my January 15, 1991 price list show that the Mother of Pearl Executive suggested retail price in 1991 was $117.00, so maybe that will help you figure out what you might want to pay for one.

I don't have any info on the Windsor.

Some of the other members will probably reply and may know what the going price of both is.

Hi Jemmers,
Welcome to the forum !

What is a reasonable price to pay for a 74mm "Windsor"?

Several years ago I bought two of my Windsors in a like new condition for CHF 32 (about $ 35 USD) per each. Hope that will help.

Hello Jemmers and welcome!

I have to ask you, why are you focusing the start of your collection specifically on 74mm knives? There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, but it is a curious choice! Normally, 74mm SAKs are overlooked by most people aside from collectors and enthusiasts.

Thanks Vicman and Nick4 that is useful! The one I'm eyeing up is £54. Its brand new but I may hold out.

Ha yeah good question. I just really like the size for EDC. More substantial than the standard minis but less weighty than their bigger brothers. Plus most have a set of tools I like.

I'm also looking at starting a collection of the one-half opening larger knives as well (contrary to what I have said about size above but not for EDC carry) really like the German and Dutch army knives and soldiers for example.

Its an exciting and addicting hobby. My girlfriend is going mad already!
