Victorinox and Wenger both made too many of a specific year's blades and have had to repurpose them once the year ended and soldiers knives had to be made with another stamp.
I've had a few and recently got more and I'm wondering if you guys and gals have other models with year-stamped blades? Has anyone made any mods with year-stamped blades?
Let's see them!
(apologies if a thread like this already exists... I searched a bit and didn't find any)

I'll start with a few...
4 Wenger Profesional with 1981, 1987 and 1988 blades.

Victorinox Pioneer Rancher with a 2000 blade

Not sure if it counts but a Soldier 91 which came back from the Victorinox spa with a brand new 27 years old blade they apparently had "lying around"...

Interesting, I have heard of Vic putting them in Pioneers, wondered what Wenger did with them. I assumed that they put them in SI's for sale to the public.
Nice pictures (and SAKs).
Are those professional series smooth alox?

Nah, just plastic... They're basic professional series from Wenger... And I have yet to see one with a blade without a year-stamp :D

Onlt recently I came across a Farmer with a 07 stamp on the tang.

Very cool Apprentice! Love that 07 blade! (I have a particular affection for 7s tho :D )
So? Nobody else? No modded knives with year-stamped blades?

I'm going to have to request for a picture of that piece :D

It's not in my posession! :ahhh
I'll buy it next time I go there.
I'll justify it with "peer-pressure"

Well you could take a picture without buying it :D

€20...
I can spend that on a mint Farmer.

If you fly, I'll buy! Twenty Euro sounds pretty fair, so if you pick it up and don't like or need it, I'll take it off your hands. Like your signature says, "buy now or regret later...." :)

Really cool! Thanks for the pic!
I'm truly wondering if anyone ever made a mod using a BY-blade...
Anyone aware of such a thing having been made?

I have a '97 OC keyringless Pioneer with Soldier blade. 1997 was a common year for the overrun blades. I can't locate a picture of that one right now, but I'll try to add one later.
I do have pictures of an '05 Soldier mod though. Nickel silver frame & bolsters, stag scales:

You might relate to this one Syem.....’85 OC Farmer, NIB. Notice the price tag on the box, no more of that I’m afraid.......😢

Move the decimal over one spot to the right and you're in the ballpark...

Gosh, that's nice. Who did the mod?
-
The mod was done by a gentleman called Scott that was a SOSAK member with the username Knifecoop. He had a website back in those days dedicated to this art.
Here is the detailed documentation that accompanied the mod: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ek1jwjycl7orc44/Old_School_Victorinox_Soldier.pdf?dl=0

Below are a couple of pics of my '97 Pioneer w/o keyring. I remember also having a silver Farmer at one point that had a dated blade, but I gifted that one.

Excellent photos! And even better examples of repurposed knives.

Thanks for the info NutSAK. :tu:

Re: the Wenger Pro series. I believe the reason that they all had dated blades was that Wenger only made Soldiers and as such did not make non dated 93mm blades as used in the Vic Pioneer so they just made deliberate overrun of soldier blades to use in the Pro's.

You’d think that all they would have to do was not run the blades through the machine that stamps on the year?
-
Great additions everyone!

 my oh my! I've got one of those I think but the blade is about a third of its original girth and 2/3rds of its length... Yours is such a beauty! With my BY too!

Here's another sort of repurposed blade... And a huge surprise!
It's a 1976 soldier... But the original blade is on the left. I sent this little guy to Vic and they replaced the broken awl and actually put a brand new 76 blade on it that they must've had lying around. It's just amazing that they'd have 42 years old spare parts still in stock!
That '91 blade in my OP was already amazing but a 76 is just incredible! (at the same time they've done awesome stuff on some other Alox knives I sent them and some very bad stuff on others... I should start a "vic spa stories" thread...)
I've got a nice old knife with a broken 5 twist fluted corkscrew... Maybe they'll still have some of those?
Anyways here's the lucky piece:
