Hey guys. I have an older style swisschamp with the gray magnifying glass. I love it. Recently I bought a swisstool spirit x with what I believe to be a newer, more aggressive file on it. Do you know if the newer swisschamps have a similar file? I was never happy with the older style ones except for fingernails. Also, how messed up do the new clear magnifying glasses get in use?

I believe that new Swisschamps have a nice large glass magnifier and a stainless steel file.

Pabs is right. The new mag is large and the lens is glass. The frame doesn't seem as strong as the old grey one.
The newer file is much more aggressive than the old one - quite an improvement.

I've had mine for 3 years now, and haven't had any problems yet.

Hmm. I thought the lens was plastic on the one I bought my brother. And if the file is more aggressive I may buy myself a new copy!

They had a plastic lens from 2005 to 2012 or something like that. I’ll see if I can find the numbers.

Plastic lens from 2004 to 2012. Glass lens after that, at present. :cheers:

Just watch out in case you get a new old stock one and everything should be fine.

Eh, depends. They have a return policy though, and the stainless steel file should have been out long enough for all their stock to have it. The only other tool change worth mentioning since 2012 that I know of is regarding the mini flashlight tool, and the swisschamp doesn’t one, so that’s fine.

It is my first vic mod, almost champ (handyman plus magnifier layer from explorer). I think it is missing only fish scaler (and removable tools tweezers pen tooth pick). Plan is to redo some day with copper or something. So current version used old cutting board plastic :) Had to test can mod be done. Have also just scissor layer that used as scissors in my cotton tasks (e cig diy atomizer heads). But yes would need some better tools (and practise and time) to make pretty scales. But good to have some todo projects :) Planning maybe to do just plier mod or plier plus one or two layers (maybe phillips at center. Pliers and bottle can openers on sides). Reamer at backside.
