I would love to be more knowledgeable about mushrooms, whenever i find a Boletus though it always has little maggots in it, i know you can probably eat them safely enough but they kinda put me off, i rarely find the same worms in a Chanterelle, or they hide better... is there a trick to finding them before the maggots do?
I don't think these are edible.

All mushrooms are edible!Show contentYou may die after eating some varieties, yes, but they're all edible...

Sorry to tell you this, guys, but... you're mushroom pickers, not hunters...

I must contradict!
First I hunt the mushroom until he is completely exhausted and can not flee, then Ishootpick him. ;)
Pfrsantos, I have documented this in the start posting in detail:
To chop it in small pieces, fry in hot oil and eat!
I'm with Fiddy, I only pick ones with price tags, but I imagine it depends on the size as to which blade.
I don't know enough about 'shrooms to keep from poisoning myself! :ahhh
Some mushrooms contain psilocybin and are psychedelic. I wouldn´t know about the one in the pic though.

Gotta admit I'm envious of you guys finding all these 'shrooms. I don't know of a single good place to hunt here these days. The city keeps expanding, and there's less woodland every year :-\

It's too bad to hear that. But what comes outside your city? Agriculture? The next city? :-[

You have to go some distance now to get lesser traveled woods where one might find untouched mushrooms. Areas outside of my town that I don't know well, and am not super comfortable exploring. For one thing I don't know who owns which plots of land out there and I don't want to accidentally trespass on private property. For reasons ranging from stepping in traps, to mistakenly stealing owned mushrooms, to stumbling on well armed marijuana farmers. But then the safer areas are well traveled enough that you can't find anything worth collecting.
I don't know any other options to explore currently
:salute:

Wow, nice shrooms! What kind is it? Edible?

I don´t know, wouldn´t eat a mushroom anyway. There are over 3000 species around here and I know only a few. Typically, edible mushrooms have several inedible look alikes.
I enjoy many kinds of mushrooms, but it's kind of a ridiculous foodstuff: It has hardly any nutritional value, it has highly poisonous varieties, and many of the edible varieties are carcinogenic if eaten without heat treatment. So... it's risk without any other gain than the taste. At least fugu and rakfisk are nutritious. :)

shrooms all taste either flavorless or like cardboard and weird textured to me. But I like them on my Pizza purely for aesthetics.
Lots of mushrooms today!

I like that Lion Mane, never saw something like it. :like:
I couldn´t find an English name for this one.
The Dutch name translates to Silver Tree Pillow (scientific name Enteridium lycoperdon).
Together with Pioneer Solo.

So it is! This one from last Sunday. I used the Opinel #10 sickle to get rid of some undergrowth before taking the pic and then forgot to put a SAK in the pic.
Known as ´chicken of he woods´, this mushroom (Laetiporus sulphureus) is edible when young. I didn´t harvest it though, I don´t eat mushrooms.

poor tree,
a clear sign of a probable death :-[
SubscribedGood luck! Those are some very expensive mushrooms! May you only grow the big heavy ones! I didn’t realize they were so expensive until I saw the movie “No Reseverations”
I am a truffle fan myself, once me and my better half move to our new house I will be starting my truffle farming.

Interesting one this, ok its not really a mushroom but this Hair ice is only possible thanks to a fungus, it only happens to certain woods at a certain temperature in certain weather, i wouldn't call it super rare but it's not something you will see every day :tu:Great photo of fungus and SAK! :like: :tu:

Yeah it is amazing, when i was a kid i used to try and pick it up and was puzzled how it would vanish as soon as you touched it, how could it possibly be frost where there is no other frost around and rising up like very thin hair, it wasn't till many years later i found out what it was :tu:
Mycologist - I think you are! :hatsoff:Yeah it is amazing, when i was a kid i used to try and pick it up and was puzzled how it would vanish as soon as you touched it, how could it possibly be frost where there is no other frost around and rising up like very thin hair, it wasn't till many years later i found out what it was :tu:
I always assumed it was a fungus. When I walked the dog in the morning they would be there, and during the afternoon they would be gone. That did puzzle me on occasion, but I'm no mycologist and figured it was a species that only appeared at night.
