Possible to have both of these plier related mechanisms in one tool? A Gerber / SOG hybrid...
-
I've never seen a tool that combined both.
I doubt anyone has ever made one.
-
Yes it's possible if when the pliers are extended their pivot is forward of the handle pivot (kind of exists on the Grappler), but there also needs to be movement where the head assembly meets the handles to allow for the difference in opening/closure rates

This concept was included in the original Compound Pliers Tool with Linked Handles (http://www.google.com/patents?id=6bspAAAAEBAJ&printsec=abstract#v=onepage&q&f=false) Patent by SOG.

We talked about it in this thread: flip out compound leverage pliers (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,39041.msg643981.html#msg643981)

Yeah, I figured this was a better place for a thread like this. Thanks for reposting that pic :tu:
-
Indeed ! :salute:
-
I don't see why it wouldn't be possible, when you think about it they're almost like two completely different mechanisms. It would be rreeeelly bulky though.
-
I think this concept can be tested modifying any MT wiith sliding pliers.
But i will love to see it done with a Gerber Balance. :tu:

It is really too bad SOG never pursued this concept. Although, they didn't need to, as the way the have executed the compound leverage allows for OHO of the pliers, just in a butterfly method as opposed to the Gerber slide method.

Have a look at this earlier post (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=19385.msg367224#msg367224) by me.

That is amazing. Did you end up making this, Shorty?
-
No, i didn't. It still has some design flaws and i do not have access to fance machinery needed to built that. I evolved that design a bit and now have something more serieous in my mind ;)

Any images that you care to share for us visual types to look at?

Any progress Shorty?

I think the crkt Zilla tool would be great if the darn pliers would slide down. Hope you come up with something :D
