I used to be a Swisschamp guy, but since I carry the Compact or Deluxe Tinker, I feel the Swisschamp was too thick to carry.
But in the end of April I'm going to travel with my family to celebrates my grandma's birthday. I need one SAK to take care almost anything. So since last week I picked the Swisschamp again from my drawer. The first day I still thought it was too thick, but after a week I'm in love again with my Swisschamp.
For me it's Swisschamp everyday!

When I started reading your post I thought to myself.
"Self, it looks like you might be picking up a nice used SC cheap."
Glad you are getting along with it though. The SC is one of the best SAKs imo.
Me too SG, my favorite SC currently lives in an SOS set (altered contents) in my tool bag alongside an MT (usually a SwissTool X) and other sundries. Always close by and easy to grab and go if needs be. :)

They're awesome edc'rs Batosai! I was always under the same impression, but they really do carry well, and everything is easy to access. Honestly, they really don't feel that much bigger than carrying a 4 layer SAK IMO. Great pic and good to see one on duty!
I love it Robert!! Your cat has exactly the right idea!! :tu: :tu:

I never had one. I've always doubted that it could actually be a usable tool considering the width of the SAK. Do you actually use it on a regular basis or is this more a symbolic model for you ?
Gee (from mobile)
I love SwissChamps. Around 1980-something I had a fake one I bought out of Boys Life magazine once I had earned my Totin' Chip in Cub Scouts. But I dared not dream that one day I could own the real thing. I've had 2 real ones. One was a USA flag one I bought for parts. Technically I still have it, fully disassembled. I'll probably make a Deluxe Explorer out of it.
This is my main one, I got it for $39 new in the package, one of those plastic bubble packages, not a gift box. Package is marked 2007. It has an older style metal file, long phillips/gray mag and it has the hook on back. One of my favorites. It mainly stays on my desk but does get used all the time for repairs. I have one of these cases for it:
https://www.rei.com/product/409212/rainbow-of-california-swiss-army-knife-case
It fits a Champ very snugly, but it does fit. I trust it not to fall out during adventure type activities. Can be worn horizontal or vertical.
Looking at the Cybertool 41/L as an alternative to the Swisschamp (not that I need an alternative, but I DO need to collect more SAKs)
Awesome pic doc

I've been in mourning the last two weeks over my Swiss Champ. Two weeks ago at work I was pulling the Swiss champ out of my front pocket and I dropped it from my pocket to the ground. From that short of a fall the liner between the flathead opener and the scale dented in so bad I can't fully open the flathead. I was devastated when this happened. My beloved Swiss champ has been retired until I can put money aside for a new one. Until then I've been switching EDC's between the Pioneer X and my Ruby Deluxe Tinker.

My favorite one, a replica of the one I carried for years, vtg. '91-'94. Got my original in '92, now partially disassembled waiting for a refit. This one is a user, but with the Spirit in the same kit and the Pioneer X in my pocket all the time, mostly the scale tools see any regular use now. I really prefer the clean look of the earlier pliers and the old mag. glass, but it might just be because that's how I remember them when I got my first one. The SC is also the only pocket knife I ever carried to inspire blasphemous comments! :D

Awesome 2!
Now we'll have to wait for Barry's pic (it appears everyone else is in the minimalist challenge).
BTW I would like to have a look at your library, I've seen some interesting titles lately.
A fair portion of natural history overhere, a lot of maths and some linguistics - in a previous life I was a crack computer programmer. I liked the job very much but only when it was raining outside :)Awesome 2!

Thanks Ronald!!! Books are mostly Hist/Lit with an emphasis toward esoteric/mythological/symbolic lately. Probably 90% of my books are still stored from the move. Have a few Bushcraft/Camping titles as well.

Aha, that explains a lot. I thought it was a real world map. I understand about the distance problem (looked it up on Wikipedia). As I said, impressive! Its hexagonal grid (gets rid of time/distance problem with diagonal movement on basic grid). These maps are usually used on strategic or operational wargames as this one too. This being one of those monster games that takes whole human life to play through (thousands of hours from ten to twelve players).
Kind of an never ending hobby that changes to an project after few years of playing. The map itself is ten feet (around 3 meters) long.
Trying to teach my 4 yr old Grandson to use the can-opener on my Swisschamp.

SwissChamp stag (1985/1986), Champion (early 80's), and another SwissChamp (late 90's).
The Champion is one of my oldest SAKs. I bought it NIB and have carried it for over 20 years. It's been my desktop SAK after I retired it and replaced it with the black SwissChamp. The latter has been EDC'd for a few office years only, it looks and feels brand new. The stag SwissChamp is a shelf queen.

I thought that I would honor "SwissChamp Sunday" by displaying my 1985/86 SwissChamp on our entertainment center. Note: normally it is a (cotton) snow-covered scene with dozens of little figures playing in the snow. This year we ramped way back on decorations after my wife fell and suffered a compression fracture.

I ended last Swiss Champ Sunday with the purchase of another Swiss Champ. I have the original model that replaced the Champion in 1985 (this original model ran for two years 1985-86). I also have two modern Swiss Champs. I really like the Swiss Champ but sincerely hope I end this day with three Swiss Champs and don't succumb to another SC purchase. :)

Agree, but the newest magnifier (2012 onwards) is two piece - clear plastic frame with a glass lens - and it's better than the other two. Bigger field of view than the grey one, higher magnification than the previous one-piece design.

Happy Swiss Champ Sunday!
I had recently watched this National Geographic Megafactories video about Victorinox on YouTube. Most of us are familiar with Victorinox's history and have seen videos on the manufacturing process. I especially like this one (it's over 40 minutes long) and since it has multiple Swiss Champ appearances in the video, I thought it would be an appropriate tribute for Swiss Champ Sunday.

This photo had previously convinced me that I needed to get some emerald scales for one of my Swiss Champs. I spent some time last week planning some cosmetic changes for some of my Swiss Champs. I was originally planning to put some white scales on my original Swiss Champ (the first edition that replaced the Champion). My thought was that because the scales were not original that I might as well put a white replacement set on it. Eventually, I decided that a red replacement scale set would be more appropriate for the original SC model. The white set will be matched with a newer SC. I am also planning to replace to other SC scale sets with Sapphire and Emerald.
I had seen some photos of an assortment of SC SAKs in different colors and it planted the seed of wanting my own SC color assortment.

..... WOW!!!! How did I live without a work sharp all these years. For the size and price ( about $25 shipped) you can't go wrong. The guides won't work on all grinds (don't use them on Scandinavian grind like say a Mora or Tops BOB or Chisle grind like a Trekker) but for most knives on the market it definitely a go. The serations on my Soldier have never been sharper and then they are now.

:D Thanks Robert! That was the first hot beverage I had that day! That little Coleman stove only weighs a few ounces but heats like a champ!
I'd love to see a pic of it! I still have our old 2 burner Coleman propane model given to me years ago to replace our white gas model. That baby made many a journey across the country!
I now have 6 Swiss Champs after a recent purchase of two with 8x magnifiers. Two need cleaning and one just a little sprucing up. I will be changing out scales on at least three and maybe four. Given my current commitments, that may get done sometime between now and May. The Swiss Champ in this group photo is sitting on a small table where I am sitting and is in easy reach...

Actually I'm not sure I can. I say this because I'm a fan of Assos cycling gear which is also Swiss. And their product naming convention seems bonkers ....
Gotta be targeted demographic marketing...the Swiss are clever, I'm sure they have a chocolate Jackalope in the planning stages to go after the Texas market....

Red Swisschamp for me today. And chocolate bunny with easter carrots too.
:like: :like:  Cool Easter theme Bill!!! Chocolate bunnies.....
Very kind SG if only I could understand why they thought a carrot should have a curved handle not unlike an umbrella. Beats me but I won't let that get in the way of a small snack :hatsoff:
I thought it was just a bit British humor (of which I am a fan of). :D :salute:

I'm going to miss out this week. I'm headed out into the bush with my Climber for a week of scout camp!
Happy Swiss Champ Sunday!!!
I am using one of the last Swiss Champ models with the grey framed magnifier (pliers have crimp). I updated the scales with Plus white scales and added a mini screw driver and straight pin. My photos will be delayed until I can figure out an alternative to Photobucket and their new premium upgrade to do what I have been doing for free. I have a Flickr account and hope that I can use it instead.
Meanwhile, I purchased a Sapphire scale Swiss Champ this morning for my ninth SC. Here is one of the seller's photos that I don't have to resize:

Good question Dan. I do like Vic belt sheaths. This one lives in a red leather Vic sheath with the Swiss cross button on the front. It's a bit showy but I'm fine with that at the weekend

Bill, that's a Small Mouth Bass that he used a rooster tail to catch. My other son used his fly rod and a small black fly to get his fish with. He wound up getting 3 Perch and a Crappy himself. I was there in the support role :D

You are mistaken! Don't you mean Vic has their version of the PTC. :pok: (Though MC is an inferior tool set :twak:)Let me put on my flame retardant suit before the MC clan burns me at the steak!
I like both Wenger and Vic but most of the time prefer Vic. Until you compare the 58mm line vs the 65mm. When I discovered the PTC it quickly became my most used SAK. Don't get me wrong the 58mm line as well made as any other SAK it's just a less usefull tool set.I'm in today.

Perfect!!! Richard Dean Anderson gave us 7 great seasons with the help of his trusty SAK(s).
By the way, what model is your Samsung tablet? I've had a think for Samsung's Notes (Note 2, Note 3, Note 4, Note 8 tablet, Note 10.1 2014 tablet and Note 12.2 Pro). The phone Notes are long gone now but I still have all three tablets.

How dare you edit an hour after posting ;) It's just an old Galaxy tab 4. The 10 inch one.

Happy Swiss Champ Sunday!Wow! That looks amazing! Love that color. I've seen lots of blue and black on the market but I haven't seen much green.

I am assuming that your photos are of your everyday carry and am curious about the three tactical knives that seem somewhat redundant. Since many people work on minimizing EDC carry weight, the three tactical knives would seem to add weight for similar function.
Happy Swiss Champ Sunday!

For some people, maximizing carry is much more fun than minimizing weight. I´m one of them and so, I suspect, is The Peacent. It has been noticed that both TP and I are gardeners.

I did think of the fun factor. :)
All three of the dedicated knives (non-multi-tools) were biased toward cutting or sawing, which would make sense for gardening. The largest one would fit my idea of a tactical knife. I probably understood maximum carry fun best as a teenager. I had started collecting knives as a young teenager and used to strap a 3 tier ankle sheath for three throwing knives while also carrying a hunting knife in a belt sheath and if I was in one of the large fields near where I lived, I would also be carrying my bow and a quiver full of arrows. If it was cool enough for a jacket, I would probably have another 6 throwing knives at hand. :)
These days, I go for minimum carry with more close at hand (either at home or in the car). With so much emphasis on YouTube and elsewhere on minimizing weight, ThePeacent's EDC made me curious. :)
Happy Swiss Champ Sunday!

:like: I agree Kandi. Unless I'm on a challenge, I pretty much make up my mind in the morning as to what I'm going to pack. Oftentimes I'll grab either the Swisschamp or Craftsman and an Opinel and smile on my good fortune the rest of the day. Sometimes I wind up switching out. My son packs like Peacent almost daily. To each their own 😃

I know I'm in Swisschamp country but I always enjoy reading. I've been digging the 3 prong approach lately, a 93mm + either 91,84, or 74mm, + 58mm

Sorry for posting on Friday, but I don't have the time to contribute on coming Sunday.
Here is my revised Champ. A very long time ago one of the scales plus the under laying liner were badly damaged, so a few month ago I sent my 1987 Champ (2nd model) for a revision to Victorinox. Last week I it finally returned to me, after paying € 21,50 for P&H.
Victorinox had the liner repaired, the scales replaced by modern scales (with pinhole!), put in the pin, the new type mini-screwdriver (luckily I saved the original one), new T&T, new pen, and they replaced the old type pliers with the new pliers type!
So now I have a 1987 Swiss Champ with 2017 details. Should I be happy or not?? I don't know...
Happy Swisschamp Sunday all!

They are available online. I like it because it is a clip-on that I can easily put on and off my belt. Also snap closure instead of Velcro. It has elastic sides. They come in various sizes. The one pictures is the large size, and it fits the Swisschamp perfectly. Cost around $9
Nice apple Ron.

Fluted corkscrew, thin pliers with no crimper, scissor screw and no hook so by all accounts one of the earlier ones, really happy with it although its smaller than i imagined, i got it into my head they were big unwieldy beasts but not so, in reality its not much bigger than my normal edc Explorer, will add it to the rotation and see how i get on with it.
The scales are new, i put them on along with new pen, t and t, i kept the original scales though for purist reasons, in case i ever want it back to original :tu:
So, for the first time ever..Happy Swisschamp Sunday everyone

Bear in mind it's road legal and is running around 200bhp at the rear wheel, before it was made road legal it would run a 1/4 at around 8.6. She's pretty highly strung lol (a lot like my ex)

Actually, the scales are unique with the exception of three red scale Swiss Champs (the 4th red one is actually a Champion). I have the original model that replaced the Champion and that needs to remain original. Of the other two, one is new/unused and the other is used/excellent condition. I will keep the new one in a box and use the remaining red scale model when the occasion arises. The rest of my SCs have a variety of scales, specifically Cobalt blue, black, hardwood, emerald, saphire, white and camo. I had planned to remove the "Daily driver" red scale and replace with Ruby scales but might just get another SC and put Ruby scales on it.

I finally got around to taking a Swiss Champ "Family" photo. I remember a post some time ago after I had acquired my 8th Swiss Champ. The number 12 was in the back of my mind and now I realize that I was counting a SuperTimer that is no longer mine and a Champion (replaced by the Swiss Champ in the mid 1980s). You can see the Champion pictured behind the row of Swiss Champs. I have also included a photo of my former SuperTimer, which is a premium Swiss Champ with a Clock scale...I like that Swiss Champ with the Clock scale. Nice collection.

There's always a story about every purchase. This one is no different.
My brother came to our house for dinner and he brought a package with him.As you may have guessed this Champ and the SOS kit was in that package. When he asked if I wanted to buy it,I responded with "I have three already".His response was "Not like this one".So,the inevitable search though my storage units began to show him that I had that model. To make a long story short and much to my surprise,I didn't have that model.Well, I bought it from him,for a price that was a little more than the SOS kits currently being sold without knives.I'm now the proud owner of my fourth SOS kit.
Now my wife wonders even less, why I have so many knives. It's because of all of the facilitators in my life, such as my brother.LOL
Nice story toolguy

I'm in today.Excellent gs nice SwissChamp :like: :tu:
They both have the old-style, thicker tang on the large blade, at least. And, since you didn't say it explicitly, they have the older, longer inline Philips. I'm probably missing something obvious. :dunno:
Keyring on opposite side?
Keyring on opposite side?
Is this a question or an answer?
Ha,ha yes you are correct.
Good observations everyone.
Here are two older Swisschamps.
Can any member name something different compared to current production? I'll name the most obvious to get that out the way. They have the older gray magnifying lens and the thinner pliers.Since you can't view the back side,I will state they both have the twisted cork screw.
Now that I've pointed out these differences, what else may be different from current production?

I do remember that I had a choice between the red or black scales.Since I had never seen a SAK with black scales, that's what I ordered.

Switzerland and France: Victorinox Swiss Champ and Jules VerneI would say those are two very good choices...even as an adult. :hatsoff:
Both a distinct part of my childhood. The adventures too easily missed could be had at night with a torch under the covers, holding a Verne book in one hand, and a favourite pocket knife in the other. I still have a hard time convincing my wife that the pocket knife is essential...

coloured scales for my SwissChamp
But it’s the only SAK at the moment
I have with the red scales
Maybe one day when I have more red SAKs
I will change the red scales for a different colour :tu:

To be honest the red scales are simply so iconic and if you're going to have them on any SAK it probably should be the SwissChamp. I must admit I do have a red SC which hasn't seen much carry time since I got the black one. Which reminds me I have been out on the bike and SAKless until now .. so I'll dig out the red one and join you.

It's only my second day of carry. :dunno:On slipping a Jack knife....
Might be too early to really assess, I'll know more after the 30-day challenge. Some knifes I can just pick up and instinctively know that I'll enjoy using them. This isn't one of those.....
I'm fascinated by awl the tools. As a right hander, I find the grip a bit wide when using the knife blade. But I may get used to that over time.
I'm fighting the urge to slip a Jack knife in my other pocket........

Scored a SwissChamp on SwissChamp Sunday, by accident. $27 shipped off eBay (Could have gotten it a few bucks cheaper had the seller offered options other than a flat rate box). 1990s vintage. And the old gray mag, my favorite one. That thing can really bring tiny things up close.Nice :like:

Went to open a can of corned beef, which happens to be square (not round) and somehow the can was missing the included key to open it. Can openers won't work because of the sharp angles of the square container.Very good usage! :like: :tu:

I think this one might have been a display model. Has a good bit of scale rash for appearing to be NIB and the tools are flawless. I believe this one would be a mid to late 80's. Only bad thing about anything shiny and black is it shows off every little scratch.Very nice :tu:

My first ever Swiss Champ Sunday. I honestly got this to satisfy my curiosity and collector’s itch (if anyone knows of a cream to treat this let me know). However, I have to say that I love it. Here’s to many more SCS to come.Best remedy I found was to liberally coat yourself with SwissChamps. Fortunately they’re larger than most other SAKs, so you don’t need so many. :pok:

Not too late, am I?
Just to report that while preparing for our first post Covid19 trip, I happened to find my first SwissChamp which I'd lost years ago (at least 8-10).
I spontaneously decided this was fate pure and simple and that I'd take it along for the trip.
Fate indeed!! Congrats!!! :tu::salute: :tu:
After getting the XLT and carrying it for a month
makes the Swiss Champ look rather small :D
I bought a new Swisschamp last year (my first one) and it has the blue translucent scales. My latest purchase was a used Swisschamp with the standard red scales. I'm more excited for it to be delivered today than I probably should be, but this one is going into my 72 hour kit once I get it all cleaned up and sharpened.
Am I allowed to admit that my 72-hour kit doesn't contain a SAK (because there's always one in my pocketses)
Good for you Tony! I typically don't need the whole toolbox either, but I love it's personality. I missed Swisschamp Sunday, but have mine with me today....and actually in a 72 type emergency, I'd be grabbing it on the way out!
I hear ya. My plan is to have a Swisschamp and Soldier in my 72 hour kit and then anything I may happen to have on me at the moment of emergency will be a plus.
SAKGuy hiked with a Champion thru Europe. He was my inspiration for getting a Swisschamp, hopefully to hike with on adventures somewhere, someday.:tu:
I would love to try but about a half pound I don't need usually...
Yeah, definitely. One could always have SilverTech on one side, and a Plus scale on the other. Most colors would contrast pretty well with the silver.
Non-conforming scales.
...but I have to try the fero rod mod! Guess you can use the 90 degree edge on the back of the saw blade?
Thank you!! The Swisschamp really is a great all around tool. I was missing mine so I put it to work at my son's Eagle Scout project.Nice! SC helps Scouts!!
Nice pic Echotech :tu:Thanks Barry  :tu:
Me too Tony... anyone feeling a Swisschamp challenge sometime next year? I love the Swisschamp.I’m in :salute:
Bought my first Swiss Champ a few days ago.
Finished modding it today.
Quite pleased with the results...
A potato grade pic of my Champ. Notice anything missing? I got rid of the fish scaler and swapped the chisel for the precision screw driver on the backspring of the saw.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210118/50fc5e8bce97a3f502eca361e46547a0.jpg)Very cool. Running late!still looking good Barry 👍
Roulette anyone? I found a deal on the black, but at the time I was of the notion that only red was the correct color, so I eventually bought the red.Same as me, soon to be Sir Fireman. Black looked cool but "supposed" to be red lol.

Same as me, soon to be Sir Fireman. Black looked cool but "supposed" to be red lol.
Yes, except that once I had both I couldn't decide which one I liked more.
I used the pliers on mine, in combination with the Work Champ pliers, to take off battery clamps on my garden tractor. Tony, I was surprised by how well they did. I used one to loosen and turn the nut, and the other to hold the head of the bolt.
I love the SAK pliers... the teeth are aggressive and sharp, while the grip makes them easy to use. :cheers:ok thanks guys. Will not discriminate due to pliers looks any longer!

Swisschamp has been my regular carry these last few months, it's a non threatening tool to carry, especially with my dozens of hospital and clinic visits these last few months. Long story short, getting a tumor removed and then after that's done I have to get a second round of back surgery on L3, L4 and L5. Needless to say I haven't been on a good mood for a while, but seeing the posts here keep me in decent spirits.
Thank you both Jim and Barry, I appreciate it. The way I look at it, it's not for me to understand God's plan in life, we just have to roll with it!
Regarding SwissChamps, I need to get another one! I want to get one in rough condition I can keep and carry without feeling like I need to sell it.

I remember those days Toolguy, and you're right. Now, that's probably the best investment money wise anyone could make given what you got in return!
Functional is the keyword for me Jim. I've had some collector pieces over the past few years, but I've pretty much moved them on. I like to use mine!very cool Barry, if I'm not carrying a Little one, I may try the black or the Hoff with the pliers! Both are grey mag and fluted CS, no hole for straight pin.....need a P7 clip....
Speaking of which, I had some mag glass fun with mine today. No success, but smoke from a dried leaf!
I like the best mags Tony. The field of view isn't terrific, but I'm convinced that I can get a fire going with one of the Sun and the tinder are right. I went from having no gray frames to having only gray frames, purely by accident.:tu:

Just hanging around waiting for a buyer.....
Well...looks like I just won 3 SwissChamps from Boulder City today..... Now to bring em back and resell them.....Cool !!! :tu:
Another Sunday another day of Swisschamp carry. It's been the only tool I've been carrying for the last few months and during my surgery recovery and I've had zero problems with needing another tool. In fact last week I used the pliers to pull staples out of a billing statement and the pen to fill out a return address on an envelope while at the post office.
Cool !!! :tu:
I'm carrying it over to Monday :ahhh:like: :tu:

I'll confess, once again, that I was a bit of a Swiss Champ skeptic. It seemed a bit too big and bulky to be practical. I thought that the Swiss Champ was a bit of a gimmick.
However, because some members here seemed to swear by them, I picked one up to use in a 30-day challenge. That 30-day challenge really changed my mind and I, too, succumbed to the Champ's charms.
I encourage you to do a 30-day Swiss Champ challenge and see for yourself. (I think we were thinking about doing one in November.)
Happy birthday JB and welcome to the Swisschamp club! Like Nix says, try a challenge, either informally or one of our organized challenges. You'll grow to love it.
88 degrees here Nix my friend!! I'd like to have some of that snow, and my dogs definitely would.

I took my SC to church again. I carry it practically everywhere. There are times when I wonder if I put it in pocket. I hardly feel it there. Don't know why some people think it's too heavy for them....

I also sold one this week on the bay. It's a swell product.... 8)

That is brilliant, never thought of using fish scaler that way :like:
Pro Tip: clean scaler after use. Especially if you are going to use it to retrieve pickles or olives from their briny jars. Nothing wrong with a "Dirty Martini", but you want it to be the right sort of dirt..... ;)Was such a cool idea, I used it to get Vodka soked pineapples from a Tupperware! I need to sign off now 😩!!
Nice work, and nice scales too!:salute: :tu:

Happy SCS!
I'm carrying this one today while considering the Go BIG challenge. It might be nice to not carry a SAK in my pocket for a while, and these S-shields are so much less bulky than the Victorinox pouch options.
It's the S-Shield with a stainless clip that is very secure when clipped around the belt and waistband. It will fit a 6-7 layer SAK with room for a AAA flashlight in a side pocket. With the Swiss Champ in there it would only have room in the side pocket for maybe a prybar, but the Champ by itself is not a tight fit at all on its own.I like it!
The S-Shield comparison pics below show comparisons between a CT34 setup with Peak Eiger flashlight and the Swiss Champ. In the pics, the SAKs are pulled out slightly to hold the closure flap open for the pics. Also note how much slimmer the Skinth package is than the Victorinox large sheath.

I've been meaning to post this pic for a while now. Just waiting for time and a sunny day.
The black one was my first. I got the red one as a spare. The green one I bought to break up for parts for mods, but it cleaned up so nicely that I decided to keep it and replaced the original red scales with the emerald ones.
Now I'll need to get a fourth to use for parts.

:woohoo:Are those early pliers narrower than the later ones? They look like it in your photo. At least compared with mine, like in my photo a couple of posts earlier.
This SCS, I *finally* made the break through to show the first generation pliers Champs ran from ‘86 to ‘88 in production. Confirmation comes from a wide assortment of dated knives. Battle series, Apollo, Hoffritz LE/LE2, Space shuttle.
The thing I was missing is clear in this pic with representatives from each of the 3 years.

May go back to Blackie for fall and winter for all the tools...although sometimes I only need a Climber...yes, Blackie is good around the house.

It certainly isn't a Little Sak!Compared to other 91mm or smaller SAKs, no it's not a little SAK. But considering how small it is for what it can do, that's pretty impressive.

Happy Swisschamp Sunday everyone! ☕ok 👌 :salute: may take Blackie for a walk....

Way to go Tasky!!Nah, typical day, really. If ever I have an actually interesting use, I generally forget or don't have the opportunity to whip the phone out in time for a pic.
Found one of earlier and perhaps earliest versions of the Swisschamp. Could be late ‘85 or early ‘86…and interestingly has two major differences. So I might have to go on a squirrel hunt to find one that is potentially in between. One difference is a part update (later), and the other a (rare) construction protocol difference…which might be a production error.Looks like my '83 Champion, but with pliers. Has the same full liner between the scissors and scaler, and the key ring on the corkscrew side.
Very nice find Kamakiri! I'm interested learning more! Thanks, Barry! Always better to find the oddball knives when they’re in good shape.

Yes! I have that one! Except the gold color of the hot stamp is worn off.
Unfortunately, that is an issue with a lot of the hot stamped scales out there. You could always replace it with a good scale from a thinner knife.thanks, no I'll keep it as is for now ....

That’s my preference too.
I was going to take it apart for the pliers but it’s just such a beauty I couldn’t do it.
There's something about the older SAKs....I'm glad you didn't part it out Explorer!I know what you mean Barry!
Happy SCS!I thought about that earlier this evening as I was using the pliers. :(
Nice looking crew SteveP! I hope you’re ready to go plierless soon! :tu:
Happy SC Sunday everyone!Steve that's a great lineup!
For SC Sunday, a Champ family picture.
The yellow one is my newest. Bought it online two SC Sundays ago and it arrived early last week. It needed a deep cleaning and I replaced the original red scales with new yellow Plus ones.

Well, I can always fall back on the Seber Tool I keep in my pocket.
Church, yo.A good carry that'll prepare you for almost anything. How do you manage to cram all of that into a suit?
How do you manage to cram all of that into a suit?
I used it many times for that. Most bottles have cork here and, when I was young, I insisted on using my SC even when other corkscrews were available. Now I mostly use the big thing with arms, that's much bigger than the Swisschamp XLT....I know, need the big thing with the 2 arms...

Not a bad thing at all!You are correct good Sir

Hi Everyone - longtime lurker, first time poster. I had the Swisschamp on me today for some work in the garden and realized it’s Swisschamp Sunday! I have never used it in the garden, but thought why not just pull it out of my pocket to clear out weeds and prune some dying tomato plants. The fish scaler hook works great to help dig up small roots that otherwise break off. I was surprised at how well the magnifying glass worked to get a closer look at something akin to clover mites (not clover mites, but still need to identify). And happy to have those pliers to remove a nasty splinter from an old planter. It’s great one for the garden.

Excellent use of the Scaler :tu:

Roasted some marshmallows with the kids once we had some good coals. How can you roast marshmallows with coals? The proper way to roast a marshmallow is to place it in a flame, let it catch fire, blow out the fire on the marshmallow, and then eat it.

Yes hot peper may work. Peeled cloves of garlic in their homes may make them move. At least no vampire problems- it's that time of year you know!
I have 2, one of which is always in my car. When I travel I take the Swisschamp. It's legal everywhere a knife is, and there's no end to what you can do with it. Like the old saying goes: if you can't fix it with a Swisschamp, you can make the tool to fix it with a Swisschamp!:like:
For years I resisted the SwissChamp. They were too heavy, too thick, they were more of a show piece than a working knife, etc. Then I got one and discovered that they are a Rosetta Stone for the 91mm SAKs. Nearly every other model is a subset of this one. With this you get a view of the entire line. A marvelous knife for a shoulder bag or belt pouch and even occasionally in a pocket.
I'm not ready for this nonsense. We were only supposed to get 2-3 inches from Tuesday-Wednesday evening, but it started Tuesday night and snowed steady until Friday afternoon. We ended up with about 6 inches total. Yesterday morning was 2°F and this morning, when we left for church, it was 11°F which is typical January/February weather. Thankfully, we are supposed to back into the 40s this week so the kids won't freeze when we go trick or treating.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20231029/c070ad87b8ee7ef114a6be8fb06c5a19.jpg)
Nice snow photo. You need to get your knife out of it however. That moisture is bad for it. Very careless. I still don't have a Champion so I can only join in full of hope and with empty pocket.
One of the fellas had a nice reconditioned Champion for sale in the Trade section. Unfortunately he wanted to sell about a dozen knives along with it. And upteen scales also. Some day I will come into one. A nice used one would be just fine. Until then I will have to use my simulated SwissChamp. The one I made.
Enjoy the snow (and the rain in NY). It is warm and dry as a bone here. Water restrictions in town actually. I think I could walk across the Cullasaja River now without getting my knees wet. You can see the old Cherokee fishing weirs when the water gets low enough. Best wishes. Gary
:tu: :tu:
Dry as powder here. Woods have quite a fuel load. People still burn leaves. Yeow! It was almost 80F today. Lots of turkeys piddling around. If I find someone with a Champion, then I might pull the string on one, Barry. I have been enjoying the Spirit challenge posts. Doing a good job there. Still sick folks. One member with all the kids sick. I feel for the parents sitting up with sick kids. Lots of nice photos. Best wishes. G
Nobody has made a post on the SwissChamp Sunday for a while. I told MTSAK a long time ago that I would satisfy his curiosity about my homemade SwissChamp and post a photo. Well this time is as good as any I suppose to unveil it. Possibly talk about the build and its difficulties. Here it is. I used it just this morning to cut up some boxes for recycle. Getting to all the blades is a little time consuming, but what's a little time? Right? It is even adjustable for the number of layers. Clever, huh? Best wishes and happy holidays to all. Gary (IMR)

Using the Swisschamp to do some plastic flash removal. I am enjoying working with my grand-daughter on her model engine STEM kit. A bit more knife than required, but, it works well and allows her to see the various tools available. She used the philips screwdriver to install some of the screws holding the engine together, but, prefers the Facom precision screwdriver in the background.Grand kids are amazing :tu:

:hatsoff: Thanks gents! I like the Swisschamp. As crazy as it might sound, I know the toolset with my eyes closed. As I'm fond of saying, if you can't fix it with a Swisschamp, you can build the tool to fix it with one :D
You're welcome here anytime! I have an XLT in my bucket list of Vics to get. I love the big SAKs. I know there's some belt hanger users here who like carrying the Champs in their pockets. I use a sheath for my regular Swisschamps.
It reminds me of my second Swisschamp, which I dated to 1992ish because of the hook, pliers, etc. I love the older SAKs.
Thank you for that! Do you know by any chance, if these scales are the solid ones? Also, it seems like this one weighs ~190g whereas the others I have are ~186 (if that helps).
