Good idea with its own thread for the brilliant SAK wood saw.
It is always amazing how well she does her job with her small size.
When I go out into nature, I always have a Bushcrafter or Farmer with me.

I never leave the house without one. It's my most used tool, after the main blade.

Ooh nice, what is that box your using? Does it have a grill that can go over the top like a hobo stove?

The saws on Swiss knives are excellent, but I rarely have need of them, so a lot of mine are without it.

How can you not like the saw! The saw bumps the SAK capabilities into the bigger knife capabilities. It helps a little SAK do many task a larger fixed blade knife would normally be used for.

The SAK saw is incredible. I've used it for wood, PVC pipe, other plastics, and even dry wall (makes a mess of the saw. Shame on me!). The teeth are so sharp and aggressive that I find the SAK saw to be faster than most of my other hand saws. I'm fact it's so aggressive that it will nearly destroy the old '70's-style wood paneling (like found in mobile homes). I like to have a saw on all of my full sized SAKs

Same here. Disregarding anything below 84mm, almost all my SAKs have a saw, whereas there are only three with scissors.

Even though I spend the bulk of my time, especially recently, in the "wilderness" of New York City, I rarely carry a SAK that doesn't have a saw. I've used it on wood, plastic, very hard rubber, and dense laminated cardboard. While it isn't an item I use everyday it has come in handy to scavenge wooden pieces from discarded furniture on the street for use in projects around my apartment. It has come in handy on a photo shoot where I improvised a tripod support out of discarded plywood. I built a product display stand using just a saw equipped SAK at a trade show. I've also used it at home a few times to trim some wood in confined spaces where a larger saw just wouldn't fit. Since its functionality can't really be replicated using a different tool I prefer to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. It is also one of the thinnest layers so doesn't add a lot of bulk and weight. The saw rocks!

Some day I'll have a single layer alox, saw only SAK to accompany my Pioneer Solo. For now, one of these will do (Bushcrafter/Woodsman).

People say they miss the woodsaw and scissors on the 84mm platform.
Buy a Delemont! It gives you both options for only 1mm more!
And to be honest... just got one today and I LOVE the Wenger scissors!

It doesn't like the job, but it can saw through thin pieces of aluminum too.

I just assumed I'd replace it (or the whole SAK). I wouldn't begin to know how to sharpen it, myself. That's definitely something I'd send in to Victorinox. Maybe someone around here know how to sharpen the saw?

Found it, I never look at that section admittedly.
Glad I have the Huntsman saw. Recently I was prepping a section of my back yard for reseeding near a big maple tree. Some smaller tree roots were right at the surface. The small saw was the ticket for cutting so near the dirt. A long saw has it's place, but in this case it would be easy to snap the tip in close quarters.

Now I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what a good sharpening can accomplish.

Hurricane Harvey gave us a little mold smell. So today I was trying to trace the source. I wanted to cut a small panel in a wall in my garage. Of the saws that I have, the only one that would fit the shallow depth was my SAK saw.

As I cut, I saw white dust falling out of the cut and assumed I was sawing through dry wall behind the plywood--but my saw started to dull incredibly fast! It had never dulled before! What the...?
Once I had access to a hole saw, I cut some holes so see what was behind the panel. It turns out, I had been sawing through BRICK with my SAK saw! Fireplace brick to be exact (which is a softer brick).

So on one hand, I want to give a few good Tim "The Toolman" Taylor grunts. On the other, I nearly killed the saw in my Craftsman.
So now I basically HAVE TO buy a Swiss Champ.

I'm with 50. You've nothing to lose and might save yourself a rebuild.

That looks to be a bit worse off than the one I mentioned above. I tested the dull saw against one that has only seen a small amount of wood sawing and the dull one seems to be cutting wood at about half the rate of the sharp one.
I'll try to get some pics of it tomorrow and do some timed cutting tests. I'm very curious to see how close to factory sharpness I can get it and also with how much effort.
As a teenager I used to use a chainsaw for three or four hours a day and learned to sharpen a 21 inch chain in around 5 - 10 minutes, and that time without a doubt made a huge difference in productivity. We regularly sharpened them once a day.

I think it's the only one I have that may be small enough to fit between the teeth
UPDATE: OK. The Victorinox sharpener is not small enough. It might be possible to fabricate something that would work by using sandpaper and toothpicks. It's looking like it may just be easier to replace the saw blade with a new one.

The problem with my saw teeth is that they are blunted at the top. The teeth no longer have sharp tips. Do you think this method of sharpening will fix that?

A friend of mine did the same with MY Spirit BO. It was so dull, I could clean my teeth and gum with it.

Bought it from a guy who buys airport seized lots in Germany together with an Explorer and Evogrip 18 (yellow) for the retailprice of just the evogrip (which still has factory oil by the way)
The original scales were bleached by sunlight so these scales came at exactly the right time! :2tu:

It might take a while, but sharpening saws is in many ways not that different to sharpening anything else. You are just trying to recreate the same profile deeper in the steel, so the new points are where the old flats are :cheers:

I guess what you said there would explain why I got myself a Locksmith. I can carry a Climber/Compact then when I really need a saw, I’d go 111mm which I guess makes sense coz it’s longer.
Sometimes it’s also being torn between wood saw or metal saw hence the Locksmith.

Agree... I like the SAK saw, but don't need it for every day carry. The PX hits the sweet spot for me.

I honestly like the feel of the bigger girth SAKs when it comes to the saw, probably the Craftsman best of all.

I've come to a realization and I'm not sure I like it. Well, specifically, I think I don't like the way the Pioneer X makes me feel. Years ago, I EDC'd a Pioneer but put it away because it doesn't have a saw. Then I started longing for a Farmer; planning on carrying that exclusively for awhile. Well, I still haven't picked up a Farmer yet and then Vic turns around and offers the Pioneer X. Saw or scissors? Scissors or saw? Either or...one or the other? Makes me want to jump off a building! This is a nice combo! O usually pair my farmer with the LM style ps. Not as good scissors but you also get a small plier

Hmm...well...yeah, that might work--but--it gets me back into carrying 2 SAKs at once and don't like to do that. Since I carry everything in pockets (I don't often lug a bag around, and I believe in having your kit ON YOU so you won't forget it or lose it), pocket space is prime real estate. I have EDC'd a SAK and a Merkator cat knife (to have a locking blade cutter on me) in the past, but 2 slip joints? Meh...I don't like it.

Well, as I had mentioned earlier in the thread, I had severely dulled my SAK saw blade by accidentally cutting fireplace brick with it. I took a miniature diamond file set and attempted to sharpen it.
Bottom line: WAY TOO time consuming and laborious. I think a busy person is much better off either sending the SAK in for Victorinox to replace the saw or just getting another SAK.
I suppose if you have lots of free time or you enjoying sharpening for a hobby, you might like working on it. Given the condition of my saw, it would take well beyond 30 minutes. I don't have an extra 30 minutes of idle time.
So...sharpening the saw myself isn't going to work out.

The teeth are so sharp and aggressive that I find the SAK saw to be faster than most of my other hand saws.

I'm a wood butcher by trade and have been carrying the camper for over a year because of the woodsaw. I got a walker for Christmas as a smaller platform that included the woodsaw on it. Love them both and now I'm finding it hard to pick a new SAK that doesn't have a woodsaw on it. Feels incomplete without one

I´m planning my next SAK to be a 108mm with woodsaw, according to SAK Wiki possibly the best of them all, so I would like to try one.
Then it occurred to me that the 108mm saw has a cap lifter at its end, which means the actual length of the saw may be a bit disappointing. Does anyone have pictures comparing this saw to 93 and 111mm?
Edit. Never mind, Borg´s pic (reply #13) answers my question.

Well - I might be in the minority, but I actually have no use for the woodsaw. Beside the hook it is the only tool I´ve never ever used it in the last 25 years. For real cutting/sawing the little tool is too small. I need about 8 -10 cubic metres of firewood every winter. So I take the chaincaw or circulate saw processing. If I have to do some work around the house, I tend to use the electric saw. Being in the woods I just do a walk... or working on firewood.
Maybe in future when my son gets older I will need it when it comes to build a bow & arrow for playing around there.

Looks like a nice length for personal carry and practical use and maybe less bulky than a Silky Pocket Boy. Being a Felco, I'd expect it to be a well made and solid performer. Can you tell us how you find it, after it arrives? :cheers:
