I was wondering if any of you could shed some light on the wierd format date stamp that appears on 2 of my 2017 Waves. They read 41917 and 41817 in the handles. I have checked and there are no other date stamps. What are these numbers if they aren't the date stamps?

I've never seen stamps like that on a frame before. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will me able to help though.

18th+19th of april 2017?
Might be done so they know exactly what date a tool was manufactured so they can inhance QC.
If 5 tools from the same day return with a broken blade, they'll know they need to recall any remaining stock with that date or replace the blade if one returns for service.
Just a wild guess though!
And welcome!

Could be a press tool identifier so they know which machine/tool made the handles.

This was my line of thinking as well :salute:

I also thought it meant day 17, month 4, year 2017 and same for day 18, month 4, year 2017.
Here in Spain we don't say 4/25/2017 but rather 25/4/2017 for the 25th of April (meaning we always follow the order of: Day, then Month, then Year) and in most of Europe it's the same method for dates.

 Serves me right for being on here while I should have been paying attention to work... What I meant was that the first digit could be a tool or machine ID, then the next four could be the date: week 19 year 2017.

I would buy that as well :D

Yes, the correct method. ;)

I just got a warranty replacement Wave in the mail today, and the codes are a similar mysterious 81717 and 81117. This fits the pattern of mddyy that was suggested by Mechanickal (so Aug 17 2017 and Aug 11 2017 for the Wave I received), but doesn't prove it. Later in the year or early next year, we should be able to know for sure if/when 6 digit codes that start with 10, 11 or 12 start showing up.
-
Like others, my first thought was that it was Americanized Mddyy.
That only fits for single digit months. They would likely want a number to have the same number of digits. So April would be 04 instead of "4". They have used double digit for all month codes in the past.
Then I thought...day of the week, week of the year, double digit year. Until 8 showed up in the first digit, and since there aren't 8 days per week...I guess when the October-made Waves start hitting the market, we may find out then.

If it is a US style date format, then those dates are weekdays (I checked, just in case one pointed to a Sunday.) Will be interesting to get some more data in.

The first digit can't be a weekday, since on mwb's case there was 8, so I'd still go with either Month/Day/Year or Machine or tool/Week/Year

Ah. By weekday I meant a monday to friday, i.e. working days. If the date code pointed to a sunday then maybe we were interpreting it wrong. But so far it looks like US date format.
